I HATE I GOT THIS STUPID SURGERY!

the first 2 weeks were so tough for me, i feel your pain! i really survived off of protein shakes and greek yogurt. not the best food choices but they did the job. my biggest problem was drinking enough fluids. iโ€™m at 5 weeks post op and i just got cleared for soft solid foods and it hasnโ€™t been all that great so far but i wish you luck!

I'm amazed you were able to get that much down. At 2 days, I was struggling to get 20 ozs in. I'm at day 5 now and getting closer to 40. I also finished a Greek yogurt today. Took me over an hour...12g of protien...I also made some sugar free instant pudding with skim milk and once ready, added whey protein powerd along with P2B. Easy and tasty way to get 30 grams of protein in. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

I HATE I GOT THIS STUPID SURGERY!

I am so sorry you are having a hard time. I am 4 months out and so happy for this surgery. My start was 203, surgery day 193, today 166. I did this for health reasons so it isnโ€™t so much of being fat. One thing I did and still do is mix my protein shake in a nutribullet with ice. After you are cleared for other foods you can mix in berries, pb2 powder etc. I also made my crystal light or Gatorade zero I would put protein powder, collagen powder in it and make a frozen drink. It really helps. I always drank fast and gulped. This slowed me down and made it easier. My surgeon office really prepared us for what was about to happen. I guess I was fortunate It didnโ€™t bother me with seeing food or even cooking for my husband. This will pass and will be much easier. Once you can even have yogurt it makes a difference. I really forget I had this surgery, I enjoy life much more. I go out to dinner, just eat a lot less and take over half my dinner home. The hard part is the first month after that it is just normal but you eat less at a time. if you are struggling a lot physically or mentally I would reach out to your surgeons office for help. You want to nip this in the butt now so you can be successful. It also helps to look at all the pics these nice people post of their transformation. It is very motivational and can help pull you through the rough times. Good luck to you.

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Friday 11.08 - Maintenance : 5'4" / 57y F/ 19.5mo PO RNY / 130.4 lbs B-Protein lattes (4oz PP) L-Sardines in water (drained) + yellow mustard + cucumbers with ACV & Tajin spice + baby carrots AS-wasn't hungry D-italian sausage + marinara + parm + 2 glasses cabernet sauvignon + 1/2 small dinner salad + blue cheese dressing + grilled shrimp (sorry forgot to take a pic) BS-cottage cheese + pln grk yogurt + bananas & cream PP + frozen blueberries + walnuts + hemp hearts + chia seeds Daily Totals: 1195 cals; 73g protein; 51g fat; 53g carbs; 10g fiber; 41g net carbs My hunger stayed in check yesterday. Yay! Dinner was date night and extended, so we started with sharing Italian sausage in marinara and having a glass of wine. Then later we had dinner and a second glass of wine. I'm likely overestimating dinner--I found a hair in it about 1/3 of the way in and that was it for me. But I later got hungry, so went for my flavah fave... Today is a swamped day! Y'all have a good one!! @ms.sss Ha! We're posting at the same time! Will bbiaf after I've read your posts!!!
  7. We know nothing about you. Maybe fill out your profile so we can see how far out you are, what kind of surgery you had, etc. Simple and low fat low cal is best to maximize your weight loss during this brief honeymoon period. People typically lose their most weight in the first 2 months when they don't or can't eat much and what little they do eat is very low in calories, high in nutrients and protein. I skipped puree. I was able to go per my doc to mushies, but I ate puree level stuff (fork mashable). I had things like: tuna and egg salad mixed with 2% cottage cheese and greek yogurt and dijon canned chicken with low cal/low carb gravy and smashed cauliflower soups (broths and cream with extra protein) chili (not so good--too much fat and too much spice) yogurt + cottage cheese + apple sauce (unsweetened) green smoothies foil wrapped fish canned veg or frozen veg cooked until death
  8. So I'm just ahead of you in the process - I'm 2 weeks 4 days today. And like you I had no issue getting water and yogurt down - even 4 days after surgery I was getting 64 oz in just water, not to mention my protein shakes. But then came week 2 when I started soft foods and I couldn't eat a whole scrambled egg. Then the next night I barely finished my 4 oz of chili (which was mostly 3 oz of chili liquid and 1 oz lean beef). I wondered the exact same stuff you were but trust me, the restriction will come. Just stick to your plan. And don't worry about the weight stall when you start soft foods. I just hit it and got over it (I think and hope). BTW we'll have to chat about Australia sometime soon. Wife and I are thinking of going there and NZ in May for our 10 year anniversary!
  9. Don't test the envelope. Follow your doc's progression and limits for you so you maximize your time and protect your healing tummy. I didn't feel restriction until about month 3 or 4. Until then, my nerves were healing and weren't giving good signals to my brain. So I ate on a schedule and only ate what I was supposed to eat in a meal volume determined by my doc and RD. I too had no trouble getting fluids in or taking in yogurt. I felt no restriction--until month 3-4. But by following the rules, I was at my Goal #1 by month 8 I think? I can eat more than others to this day. Always could. That is why the myth of restriction is a myth. Pouch size is only important and significantly associated with lack of loss or regain when volume exceeds 9oz by volume. That is right at my volume level. I can hold 9-10oz of cottage cheese by volume. It is more important HOW you fill your pouch and even more importantly, HOW OFTEN you fill it. Fill it with low cal, low fat, high protein, low carb, intensely nutritious food and you should not have issues...

I HATE I GOT THIS STUPID SURGERY!

As @GreenTealael said, the only way through it is through it. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Right now THE most important thing is liquid. Get your water in. Get up early if you need to in order to accomplish this. It's vital to your health and can quickly land you in the ER if you don't. Plus the bonus is, the more hydrated you keep your new tool, the easier time you will have in your protein drinks. Tips for getting your protein and water in: Vary the temperature and find the one your pouch prefers the most. That's the temp of both protein and water (both count towards fluid totals for the day) where things go down easiest with the least pain. Vary the thickness of your protein and water to find the thickness that is the easiest to go through your tool. The thinnest would be water, the thickest would be like a Premier Protein RTD drink or cream soup. I had the best results by cutting PP RTD drinks with things like decaf coffee, decaff tea, water, unsweetened cashew or almond milk, fat free Fairlife or other Protein Milk, etc. Vary the strength of your protein to find a sweetness level that you tolerate. I did best with a 50/50 mix of PP RTD and Isopure Drinks also Premier Protein Clear mixed with fluids that cut the sweetness such as fat free Fairlife Milk or Mootopia (adds protein from the milk), decaff coffee, decaff tea, water. Add unflavored whey protein to soups, both broths and strained creamed soups. This gives a savory protein option. Also BP Store here has lots of lovely individually packaged protein soups. Use fat free Fairlife or Protein Milk to thin soups too, for even more protein. Make yogurt soup using Premier Protein RTD drinks mixed with Greek yogurt or Kefir (both fat free). For the first week or so don't worry too much about your protein. Focus on getting a minimum of 64oz of liquid made up from water, decaff coffee, decaff tea, protein drinks, warm cocoa (sf protein style), popsicles (sf), ice chips, whatever you need to function. The last tip I have for you is that we all have an individual level of emotional maturity. Temper tantrums and rants are sometimes necessary to vent emotions but left unchecked can be detrimental. Not only to you but to your immediate peers in a support group. I found that when I took my power back and seized action by reframing the situation, my mood and outlook improved. The energy drain was stopped. And the future looked brighter and more hopeful. I would really encourage you to take your control back and plan your actions for success. It truly helps. Hope you feel better soon. Oh and don't forget to walk! Walk it off. Walk walk walk. It helps with the hunger, helps with mood, helps with strength.
  11. Congratulations on the yogurt. I am 5 weeks post op and was able to eat a few bites of most food, until yogurt. My stomach is now very restricted. Itโ€™s so difficult to even drink the water. Go slow, setbacks and terrible
  12. 7-10 weeks it take your belly to heal, So be careful that is a big cut and will need to be taken care of, Do not push it and just chill and let your body recover, I can say even today i still have issues with some foods, There is a big difference between Yogurt and Cottage Cheese and a 4oz piece of chicken, So i would lay low till atleast week 5 to make sure you are somewhat healed up. F@#ck Food - is my attitude
  13. I didnโ€™t feel significant restriction till I started eating soft foods (like eggs, etc). That was a very different feeling than liquids or yogurt.

    Protein Powder

One product I am very happy with is Nutrasumma Fermented Pea Protein. Unflavored, unsweetened. Gluten free, soy free, Vegan friendly. 20 gm protein, 100 calories, Contains all 9 essential amino acids. I get it at Sprouts. I use this in soups and savory foods, as the flavor is slightly pea like, which blends really well in soups. Once my vanilla flavored Whey protein is used up, I will most likely use this pea protein in smoothies and yogurt bowls, as well. BTW - I have YET to find an unflavored Whey protein powder. Even if they are unsweetened, it seems like there is always natural vanilla flavoring added.
  15. Good morning all! I'm 2 weeks and 2 days post-op and things seem to be going well. Much less pain daily and really only when I sneeze or cough does it hurt. Incisions are healing nicely. At first I lost fast, like 4 pounds a day. After a few days of that it slowed to 2 pounds a day, then 1 and now it's 1 pound every other day. I was 299 this morning, same as yesterday. It's been 28 total since surgery day (327 that morning) but the slowing down worries me. Am I still losing like a I should? What weight can I realistically expect to be at in 6 months? My 10 year anniversary is in May and we want to go to New Zealand and Australia for that but I'd LOVE to be under 250 so I can do all the adventure stuff I used to not be able to do due to weight limits. I get my liquids, at least 64 in just water and another 16 with my protein shakes at least. Yesterday I was pushing 96 oz of total liquid. Food is protein shake for lunch, then yogurt (2 g sugar total), then Unjury shake around lunch then some sort of soft protein for dinner (egg, chili, ground meat, etc). Additionally I couldn't eat a full egg last night. Maybe got 3/4 of it down before I felt 'full' and had some pain. Is that normal? Will it get better and will I be able to get my full 4 oz in eventually? Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled with what's happened so far - I'm just concerned for the future. I really thought I'd be shedding a pound a day at least and I'm concerned that I won't get to the full 4 oz I'm supposed to be eating.

    What are you eating?

Well I am at 5 months now and since I was 3 months Iโ€™ve honestly eaten basically every type of meat. I limit the red meat and donโ€™t tolerate greasy food well so I limit it a lot, but I have tried about everything without issue. I prefer shrimp and other seafoods or chicken because they are less likely to make me feel bad. I havenโ€™t eaten ground turkey yet and donโ€™t really plan to start. It is super unappealing to me. I like regular turkey but ground turkey and chicken are not something I am interested in trying. I also love beans for variety. I think adapting to focusing all my meals on protein has been a big change for me personally. Has taken some adapting but the results have been awesome so Iโ€™m all in. I also gave up yogurt after week 4 bc I was able to hit protein goal without it.

    The Maintenance Thread

It is a mental game for sure. I was freaking out in August since I was already at goal and still consistently losing. I felt I had no control and at that rate would be 110 lbs. by October. I increased calories and volume as much as I could and the weight loss eventually slowed but still felt like I didn't have control of it. Sure enough as many of you said it would slow down. I think I have lost 1-2 pounds over the past 6-8 weeks but on some days I have gained a pound back so I guess I am officially maintaining at 126.5-128lbs. I am now at 1500 calories consistently and can sometimes eat 3/4 of a cup of food (if it's soft, or slider type) at a sitting. I can now eat and egg with some veggies, yogurt or RX bar in less than 5 minutes and finish a protein shake in 15-20 if i am in a hurry if I haven't eaten in the 1-2 hours before so it has definitely improved. I have now seen 2 plastic surgeons to discuss arm and tummy skin issues for a spring surgery. Both have said (at 5'2.5 in and 127lb.) that I don't have anymore fat I could lose. They both made comments about how thin I am (that sounds crazy to me because I would NEVER consider myself thin) and both said I am just skin and muscle. I thought I had some fat in the love handle area but the PS said it's just skin. So now the decision I have is to try and stay at 127lbs. or do I let myself slip down a few more pounds assuming I will have the 10 lb. regain everyone talks about or should I purposely try to gain a few pounds for my ideal weight. If I could set the scale for the future for a consistent weight for the rest of my life I would actually like to be 5-7 lb and maybe even 10 lb. heavier. At that weight a few months ago I felt I looked good and didn't have as much saggy skin. I would anticipate I would be losing 2-3 pounds of skin in the spring for surgery as well so i need to account for that.
  18. I think it is not uncommon during the immediate post op period. I had it, as have others on this forum. You are doing all the right things. Be sure to get up very slowly - sit, then stand, then walk. It will get better. The high heart rate is from low blood pressure when you stand up. Keep up your fluids and really try to find a protein supplement that works for you. Try mixing protein powder into your yogurt. Pea protein works well in soups.
  19. Hello new friends! This is so exciting to feel such support and know that I'm not alone. I was just sleeved on 10/28 and have been having some issues - I was released on 10/31 and back in the hospital yesterday, 11/4. I feel like my body is completely shutting down. I had a really high heart rate when standing and walking and could not even brush my teeth without having to run to lay down. I have been getting my fluids (broth and water) but barely any protein because the shakes made me sick (I started on yogurt and liquid soups on Monday which has helped). They checked for blood clots and checked everything with my heart thinking that could be the cause of the shortness of breath, high heart rate and extreme fatigue. We concluded that my body is adjusting and my blood vessels have changed after surgery making it hard for me to retain electrolytes. My urine was clear though, so again Im not sure if I was dehydrated. Anyways, my blood pressure drops when I stand up and it's scaring me - the dr. said to drink more electrolytes, get more sodium, and wear compression socks. I'm hoping once I get on purees in a week that can help me get more nutrients in and more energy. Has anyone gone through this and have any tips? Any tips in general for helping the body to adjust? My body is in shock I think and trying to preserve energy for my big body while not eating enough food so maybe that's it.

    ๐Ÿ‚ Nov 2019 Challenge๐Ÿ‚

Day 5: So far so good. Though, I seriously suck at drinking water! It isn't a taste thing. Water is the only thing I do drink, with the exception of a morning cup of herbal tea, but I am just NEVER thirsty. Like, never, ever ever. Even when I should, by all rights, be really, really thirsty. I can actually forget to drink any liquid all day long at all (and have) if I am not really being mindful. I have to approach drinking like I treat taking vitamins almost. So weird... Not like I am eating soups or anything with liquids either- (maybe the yogurt 1x per day counts fluid wise some though?) Otherwise, it is lean protein/veg. Perhaps I am part camel. ๐Ÿช ๐Ÿ˜‰ I do force myself to drink, because, well, death. ๐Ÿ’€ lol! I have gone back to a timer like early on, just to space it out better and get it in more as a part of my challenge here. I don't want to grow that back hump, even a little. Item in my home I am most grateful for: Like most people, my dog is the best! He is funny, loyal, and a huge part of our family. The house would not be the same without his sweet, sweet little face. ๐Ÿ’™

I was strictly told to avoid caffeine for at least 6 months after surgery. I've been having a yogurt almost daily for over a week, no issues. Hope it gets better for you!

    Dairy reaction

I had my surgery 10/22 and I've been eating yogurt since 5 days post-op without issue. I want to introduce dairy back into my system as soon as possible to make sure I don't get lactose intolerant.
