What a difference 18 days makes
alwaysvegas replied to Idonerds's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Non-scale Victory (NSV)!!!! Never lose sight of the NSVs! NSVs are numerous and add so much motivation to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Keep the NSVs in mind when/if you hit a plateau. Congratulations and continued success to you! -
I know you feel frustrated right now, it's completely normal. Just remember this is just temporary!!! Until you can find that "sweet" spot which for some comes quicker than for others. Until then just focus on making the healthiest choices possible, be sure you're getting 60-80g of Protein per day, 80 oz of Water, some sort of movement and eventually the scale has no choice but to start moving. Until then focus on your Non-scale victories (NSV's) no matter how small you think they may be they all matter. Right now you're probably losing some inches so try to gauge your loss by more than just the # on the scale. How are your clothes fitting, have you noticed an increase in energy etc. Don't give up, you just started and trust me the rewards that are waiting for you up ahead and far greater than you can imagine right now!!!! Can you give us an example of what you're eating and how much on a daily basis so maybe we can help further?

8 Days Post Op Gastric Bypass Noticing a Difference-First NSV
Christina44 posted a blog entry in Christina44's Blog
My size 18's are falling off of me and people keep telling me my face is smaller. I guess I'm officially in a 16 now. Going to pick up a few pairs of cheap pants tomorrow to get me through lol.I have lost ten lbs since surgery and am feeling extra tired lately. I went to Dunkin Donuts with my hunnie today and asked them to warm up my 1/3 cup of cream of broccoli soup in their microwave lol. It was nice to feel a small sense of normalcy return. I also think I have an NSV but hoping it's not a fluke. For as long as I can remember when I sit for any amount of time my lower back is stiff and sore when I stand up. Today it hasn't been. I was so surprised when I realized it that I sat down and stood back up again!!!! Once again I am feeling so very grateful that I had the opportunity to have this surgery!!!! GRATITUDE in abundance!-

That is an awesome NSV and one I cannot wait to obtain!!! Great Job!! -
For the first time in 15 years... I weigh less than my husband does. Sleeved 11/22, hw 297 cw 222. Little more than halfway to goal! So happy I did this!!!

Thanks for posting this! I have been thinking about the future NSVs I am looking forward to as well! (I am also pretty excited to be getting closer to them!) I also can't wait to be able to wear clothes that are not plus size! I also look forward to: -buying tall boots in a style that isn't determined by the ones that fit over my calves -sitting at at attached chair/desk comfortably (and not freaking out when I go to a workshop that has them about whether I am going to fit) -sitting in a seat at the movies/in an auditorium without "spillover" into the seat next to me -sitting comfortably in a restaurant booth, even when the table is bolted down I am already seeing some of these, and I'm sure that there will be more that I haven't even considered a possibility as I get closer to goal!

Newbie looking for Oct sleevers!

How's everyone doing? Hope all is well; it's been quiet in here lately! I finally hit my 70 pounds down mark this morning! I feel like my weight loss has really slowed and it took me forever to get from 60 to 70 pounds. I'm not sure if I'm eating more or too many carbs or what, but I don't like it! I really wanted to hit my mid-goal of 145 by 6 months out (118 pounds lost). This is looking less and less achievable with each passing day. 50 pounds to go and a little less than two months to do it. I starting running, and I LOVE it. I have my last run tomorrow to complete my coach to 5K program! I couldn't run more than 60 seconds at a time when I started and yesterday I ran for 28 minutes straight. Seriously the biggest NSV for me! Let me know how you all are doing!!!! -
1) being able to reach everything for shaving, washing and wiping purposes 2) being out of plus sizes 3) having a normal size bath towel wrap all the way around me

How was your 5:2 day today?
CowgirlJane replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Okay, my NSV for the weekend. The owner of the dance club, who started giving me lessons (once he started talking to me, everyone else did too - translating to English etc - really fun) said "you have the perfect body... and hair for salsa" I know a pick up line when I heard one - but it was really great coming from a handsome latin guy who could dance like no one's business! It was so fun to dance in a club with Cuban people - they were all doing true salsa not just flinging around on the dance floor like you see at many dance floors. I can't wait to go back! (but maybe I should take a few "real" lessons...haha) Denise - are you getting out of the hospital today? continuing to heal? This is such an ordeal - what are you about 3 months since your back surgery? I believe it will all be fine and you will return to normal but what an unplanned side trip! Keep your chin up! -
Lol AWESOME NSV! I love when I went out to eat and sat at the booth and it was roomy! BEST feeling EVER! I walk about 5 miles a day it is just brrrr cold today and I hate working out in the cold plus I know this is petty but I hate getting wind burn and I do get it here. I was thinking about trying to find a workout buddy cause it would be more motivating and I would not feel singled out. I also was thinking that since I don't sleep til 4am I would go to the gym late at night on my husbands days off. That is 3 days a week and I feel that is good enough.

I'm still in a scale stall at almost one month but I have lost some inches AND my blood pressure has gone down so much I was taken off those meds. Oh and also my blood sugar seems to have normalized around 90. Down from the 150s. Some little NSVs for me. @@Veronica Page I'm really happy for your loss. You're exactly one week ahead of me.

How about some NSVs!?!?
wildGoose replied to shyanne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
NSVs I like to take baths. It used to be that if I was in the tub, my fat would block the Water from going all the way to back. I would have to move so the water could fill the whole tub! Now there is plenty of room. A belt that did not fit when I bought it now needs new holes drilled in it. I am going to keep using the belt because it is a very happy reminder of how much smaller I am. Also, many people do not recognize me! What a riot! -
I had a NSV this week. I actually went into Victoria Secrets and brought some workout pants ( size medium) and a hoodie(size L) First time I have ever purchased anything from there and I felt comfortable browsing around. Before my weight loss I would go in there to buy things for my daughter and I used to feel so awkward- not anymore!! Plus while I was shopping I would catch glimpses of myself in the store windows and was so surprised that I looked like a "normal" sized woman. This surgery has helped me make so many positive changes!!

Weight loss after sleeve?
whirlwen replied to Skywalker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am four days out from surgery and have not weighed myself since they did it in the hospital post-op. I think this will be one of my biggest challenges--to not let the scale define my success for me. After 35 years or so of letting the scale dictate my mood, I am going to have to gauge my success based on NSVs like having more energy and stamina, fitting more comfortably into my clothes, airplane seats, roller coasters, etc. and just having a better quality of life. I hope you all see great success, both on the scale and off! -
Newbee with an old band.. lol
jfc193 replied to bacon's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My lowest weight since my Band was around December 2009 around 190. Afterwards stop exercising and even though I still ate properly during my meals I went back to heavy duty snacking and the weight started to creep back on. In June 2011 I had a complete unfill due to esophagus dilation and during the next three months gained 25 lbs. I slowly kept gaining weight. On January 1 2013 after reaching 250 I recommitted myself and am losing weight again I am back down to around 210 and have 1.3 cc in a 4 cc band so I really do not tolerate fills very well but I like to focus on the results of benefits of the WLS such as: No more diabetes medicine No more sleep apnea No more pain in my back or knees I actually enjoy walking I can keep up with the grand children I also keep in mind all those terrific NSV's Not having to ask for an extension on an airplane Walking down an aisle of an airplane without apologizing for almost knocking someone out. Getting off the coach on the first try Crossing my legs Getting dressed without sitting down Being able to ride any coaster at an amusement park Not having to worry if the ladder is going to hold me or not Tying my shoes without almost passing out. Taking the golf ball out of the hole without getting on my knees first Leaving food on the plate without feeling guilty It seems when I stay away from this board that I gain weight and find my way back usually, so it is really important to keep a support system around you. Who knows if I will ever reach my goal weight but I am thrilled with the weight that I have been able to keep off. For me the band has worked and though I have had my ups and down it was one of my best decisions I have ever made. -
Ok, so in hindsight I realize this might not actually be considered and NSV since I'm talking about weight. But It's my BMI that really made me think of this.
-
So I know a lot of people Celebrate every little NSV and to an extent, I do too. BUT! Today I think I have my biggest NSV yet. As of this morning, I have lost enough weight that I would no longer qualify for VSG since I had no co-morbities. To me, that is huge! Would love to hear some of the NSVs you considered major. Keep up the good work everybody!

You just made me smile lol. I had never really thought about the towel thing as I've never had one fit so I never used one that way. Think I am going to go "try on" a towel haha. Congrats on this NSV

Stupid question.....What do all these letters stand for?
mae7365 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm not new/new, but sometimes I feel pretty stupid when I don't understand the acronyms used in this web site. It took me a week of searching to figure out that NSV meant "non scale victory"? Is NUT just short for nutritionist? Is there a list of commonly used acronyms that I can find somewhere? This is a great site.......maybe there's a list somewhere that I cant find? -
Managing my expectations
kimmeesue replied to kimmeesue's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Now I am really depressed. Everyone talks about NSV. So I took my measurements. OMG! I guess at least now I have a baseline and can look forward to seeing the change. But seeing those measurements was almost worse than seeing the number on the scale. -
I am the kind of person that likes to weigh every day (for good or for bad) and am very results-oriented. So sometimes it is hard to look at the scale and not see a change and yet think in terms of NSV's. Taking some before and 'after' pictures for me has been very rewarding! I couldn't believe what a difference just 20 pounds made. Also, my mother-in-law called me quite some time back and asked what bra size I wore because she was at a department store and they were having a mad sale. I was so embarrassed to tell her the truth (band size, not cup) that I told her 2 sizes down. and of course I couldn't wear them. That was probably over a year ago. But guess what?! I can fit into them!

What NSV are you look foward to?
GreenEyes604 replied to Idonerds's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I learned just the other day to begin appreciating the "little" NSV that will happen and you won't even realize it until you do it. For the first time in I can't remember how long, I was actually able to bend over and tie my own shoes. I have worn shoes that slip on for as long as I can remember, but that day I put my sneakers on and tied them myself. I almost cried. -

I just read through every post in this thread over the past few days and it's made me laugh and tear up. Congratulations to all on their NSV, and for noticing and appreciating them! Your posts have reinforced to me what a good decision this procedure and lifestyle change is. I've started a list of NSV goals inspired by all of yours!
