The changes we don't talk about

Anyone else have a reverse body image before WLS? I look in the mirror and didn't see the 232lb person. I saw "normal".... It wasn't until I didn't recognize myself in a picture that I really saw what I looked like.... I was shocked and disgusted. Then as the years went by, looking in the mirror, it's become the other where I don't see the thin size 0 person.... The mind is a crazy thing for sure. I hold up jeans in a size 0 and think.... OMG there is no way, but they do. I have a hard time parting with things that are too big. Just yesterday I brought 5 shirts and 2 skirts to the tailor. I'm obsessed with my boobs now. After years and years of being an H cup, they look so small as a FF-G.... I know that they are still bigger than most, but to me they look tiny...... ugh.. Drinking has become a 1 drink a day thing. I just challenged myself to see how long I could go if I really tried..... 23 days. Had one Sunday night and it knocked my D!ck in the dirt..... Thank the dear Lord in Heaven I don't really like shopping. I hate going into a shop and picking things out.... I'm terrible at it. I also hate getting undressed and dressed over and over. I moved to another state where no one knew the size 20 me. No one knew my past, I knew no one and it was so liberating...... This is also how I managed to have revision SX without telling anyone... that in itself has been awesome. Especially this time around..... (raises a hand and admits) it wasn't hard work at all.

    Any December surgery

I’m scheduled for revision surgery on December 8. I’ve had two failed bands and a sleeve. Going for bypass. I’m nervous and excited.

    Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?

I'm sorry to hear. You trusted them and they aren't there for you. That just sucks. I didnt tell a soul except for 1 girlfriend who we had the lapband together. She may also be doing the revision so it kind of worked. My clinic would not do surgery unless I had a witness signing my documents and someone picking me up after surgery. So I had to tell 1 person. Otherwise, I would say nothing. People are funny. I didn't want any questions or sabotage. I'm on this journey with all of you!!! We are here for you EMT!!

    Revision completed

Congrats !!! The recovery time was better I thought with the revision. The pain was worse though after surgery. Glad you are doing well and getting all your protein needs met.
  5. Prior to surgery my anxiety and depression were very well controlled by Zoloft and Lamictal. I was doing great until about a week ago when I started experiencing withdrawal type symptoms like dizziness, visual issues, and anxiety. I have been reading articles about bioavailability of meds post RNY. I’m 6 wks post op from revision to RNY. My doc wants me to try liquid Zoloft. Anybody have any experience with this? I’m scared and frustrated I was not warned of this possibly happening after surgery.

    Surgery postponed due to Covid

If you have met all of your insurance pre-op requirements can you check with other surgeons who may still be performing surgeries? I totally understand the out of pocket max thing. We took a more expensive bi-weekly premium plan this year to get the lower out of pocket max, but I still paid 5500 out of pocket, and I wouldn’t want to do it again for the same procedure unless it was a revision etc. Right now my surgeon is still performing surgeries, at least as of last week, but I’m in Georgia, but I would be one that definitely would be calling around all my neighboring states programs and seeing if there was a surgeon who could get me in. They know it’s expensive, so I’d tell any one of them who would listen about your situation and see if they could get you in. My center had a 4 week fast track program, and that was for people just starting the journey, so I bet there is some place that could get you in!! Good luck!!!!!

    Acid Reflux- Please Help

Taking the meds that your Dr is giving you is what you can do now. I didn't have your surgery but had the Bypass-long time acid reflux and then stage 3 gerd made that the only possibility. That long term problem requires a change in foods along with the meds to get it managed. There are lists of foods and water that can help with that (alkaline levels are most important) and it requires some research. Your Dr won't give it much mind for now as long as it's not getting worse. You are right to be concerned but give it time. It can take at least 6 months of change of diet, exercise and weight loss to bring down the level. I'm sorry to say you will have to modify foods that you used to eat and always be mindful of anything that you can react poorly to. Some people even respond to lactose and dairy badly for acid reflux and gerd. It wont go away just with the weight loss and the surgery revision. Ask your Dr if they have suggestions for your diet and what foods to eat. As long as you do this, it won't get to Barret's Syndrome and worse. That is really the good news to this. It can be better by the summer but you will always have to watch the foods you eat after. Great job on keeping the weight loss despite huge challenges! Feel better.

    Revision completed

Had my revision on 11/19 and it only been 8 days but still having a hard time sitting up for long periods of time. I have to lay down at some points during the day. I'm able to get my protein in since I have it in everything I eat and drink. So have to say it's not that bad now that the swelling in my stomach has gone down. Medicare Insurance

Google "medicare requirements for bariatric surgery" you can find lots of info. It paid for mine, and it was a revision from a lap band to RNY. The first office I visited told me incorrectly that Medicare WOULDN'T pay for a revision, so I actually dropped my plan to do it until the lap band slipped and had to come out anyway. I went to a different surgeon whose office said they WOULD pay for it, and long as I met the criteria, and between the Medicare and my supplemental insurance, all I had to pay for was the psych consult and the dietician! I was sweating bullets until all the bills came that I would be stuck since Medicare doesn't do preapprovals-they either pay it or they don't...but they came through.
  12. Are you revising because of reflux, weight gain, or both? Not having restriction wont keep you from losing weight if that is what you are worried about. In fact I lost 12 lbs the first month after revision and weighed 180 at the time. In 2017 I weighed 296 the day of VSG surgery and only lost 14 lbs. You wont overeat because you will get sick and if you dump that is just as bad. ( at least it is for me lol ) I get violently ill and can lasts a few hours. Once it lasted 4 hours. Good luck to you !
  13. I'm worried about the "restriction". A lot of VSG revision patients have said the same thing. They do not feel any restriction. Which goes to show, the mental part of this is so hard. Good for you. Keep up the hard, but good work.

    Any December surgery

December 15th gastric bypass revision. So excited and nervous.
  16. Good luck on your upcoming surgery. Do you have to qualify for a revision like you do for original surgery (40 BMI, etc.)?
  17. Hi all! I’m new here. I finally got my surgery date and I’m very excited. I had rny in 2002 lost 175lbs and then after I had my daughter gained it all back in 10years. My surgeon says my pouch is fine but the opening to my intestines is big so good just flows through. I’m ready to get this done so I can be active and healthy.

  19. Preop for revision to gastric bypass in 2007. Surgery scheduled for December 7th

  20. I could use a little help, I live in Minnesota and I’m having trouble finding a doctor or clinic that handles revision surgery. I was sleeved about 6 years ago and do to some ne meds I’m gaining weight back. If can make a suggestion on a doctor or clinic would be much appreciated. thank you Paul
  21. I lost the 20 in about 10 weeks and it was actually 22 lbs. I now bounce around 5 lbs but am having no problems keeping it in that range. With VSG I wasnt able to get under 164.8 and struggled to stay under 170. I am not having that problem with this revision, but am missing the restriction from the VSG.

    Hairless after surgery

I didn’t notice but then again, I shaved my head at month 3 post op VSG. I did however notice lots of new prickly hairs the month after I had my revision (9months post VSG). It didn’t bother me too much just felt weird growing back in. I do take hair skin and nail gummies most days and my hair 8 months from shaving is now between ear and shoulder length and my hair had always grown slow before surgery.

    Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?

Hi all ! I am having sleeve to gastric bypass revision on 11/23 . I had VSG done at the end of 2017. I lost 100lbs with the sleeve. I was short of my final goal but I was still happy with my results . I developed bile reflux this year and my surgeon felt this was the best way to treat it . I’m not really looking forward to surgery but I’ll be happy without the reflux and extra medicine I have to take. I’m nervous but I’m ready to get it over with . Good luck everyone !

    Help! Need Advice...

Why not go ahead and have the sleeve and see how you do? A lot of people get to goal with the sleeve. Most insurances will cover a revision if the first surgery fails. So you could have the DS done later if it turns out you don;t lose enough with the sleeve.

    Oh, Just Another Plastics Story

Update! Not much has changed so just a quick pic, nearly 11 months post MMO Actually one thing is that I unintentionally tanned deeply during the summer months so ALL of my Incisions darkened, even my old lap scars. c'est la vie. I'm a Fitzpatrick IV/V skin type so par for the course It doesn't bother me & I'm not worried about it because they're well hidden underneath underwear but I will need to address it at some point either through scar revision or some other modality Plastics totally changed my silhouette so no big deal
