  1. Thanks @Smanky and toodleure. Smanky, yeah I shared it with bariatric team and they think I am doing fine. Actually I live in Canada and had my surgery done outside Canada (due to wait times), so not so much of physical visits with doctor. Mostly on video call, I share my progress every 3 months. Yeah, so far so good. Let's see whats there in future. Doctor just told me not to overthink, eat healthy. As long as I am not throwing up or having dumping syndrome, it means I am eating well. Yeah I am very scared to eat nowadays, as I want to maintain the weight loss pace so using nutrition info and weight of food I eat to be on safer side. I have lost 30 to 45 Kg twice before the gastric bypass, but would always regain the weight.

    17lbs in 4 weeks is absolutely awesome and not at all 'no weight loss 1 month PO' OP! As the others have said, a stall at this point is completely par for the course. Stick to your plan and you will lose loads more. Best of luck.

    March 23 buddies yet?

    Christi, I am in the same boat. I was sleeved on 3/9 and have only lost 10lbs! I did not loose ANYTHING for the first 10 days & was completely flat. I was not gone above 500 calories the entire time, and have reached my protein goal 2 days only. I am 55 yrs old so I knew my weight loss would be slower but it is frustrating when you see other people doing less exercise and more calories and the weight falling off quickly. You are correct, don't compare yourself to anyone. We all have different bodies, different metabolisms, even different body types loss at different rates (eg, apple shape vs pear shape vs extra weight in extremities, etc). We are all different and none of us will have the same experience. Keep your head up, keep working your program and you and I will both get the results in our time! 🤗

    My weight loss was rapid pre-op, but post-op has been a lot slower. My surgery was on the 7th of March, too. I think - for me - it's been better to not weigh myself on a scale every day and just focus on staying hydrated and moving in small spurts.

    Attending school while losing

    I'm excited to be back at school next week. I am a college student. One of the things that I love about being a student is that college is pretty flexible, which allows me to manage my health and my education at the same time. However, after my VSG surgery, I am already seeing progress with my weight loss journey. Three days after my surgery, Being a college student has helped me to stay motivated and focused on my goals, even while managing my health. Furthermore, I find that being around younger students has been a positive experience for me. It keeps me motivated and inspired, and reminds me that it's never too late to pursue your dreams and make positive changes in your life. I believe that education is a lifelong pursuit and it's never too late to learn something new or achieve a new goal. Overall, my experience has shown me that education can provide a supportive and flexible environment for people to achieve their personal and professional goals. By being a college student, I have been able to manage my health and education simultaneously, and I have been inspired to continue pursuing my dreams regardless of age or circumstances.
  6. I had a mini gastric bypass surgery exactly 3 months back. Since there didn't seem much activity on specific forum for mini gastric bypass (as it isn't common in US), so I thought i would put it in regular bypass forum. Starting weight: 326 lbs Current weight (exactly 3 months post Op): 252 lbs making total weight loss of around 74 lbs. Diet: Currently taking 1000 (or maybe 1100 at times) calories. Protein rich diet with around 70 to 80g of daily protein and low carb. 3 meals and in-between I take protein shake, pure coconut water (around 500 ml a day) and sometimes raw Tofu once or twice in day if I feel hungry. I use weighing scale to make sure I know how much I eat. Workout: 4 to 5 miles of walk daily. Gym of 7 to 8 hours total every week. Main focus on HIIT and weights, and includes 2.5 hour of cardio. I have felt since I started gym, my body feels more leaner and in shape but appetite has slightly gone up. Like maybe 3 extra tablespoon of Quinoa. But what do you guys think of my progress? Any red flags or caution? As now is the time to correct things if something is wrong. Do you think a weight of 180 lbs is something achievable for me? Thanks a lot.
  7. How awful! I hope you're surrounded by friends and family to give you the support and strength to get through this! I also hope that you successfully meet your weight loss goals and are grateful you had the surgery, regretting your choice of surgeon instead. Sounds like what happened to you isn't a complication of the surgery, it's malpractice of the surgeon. I hope your next procedure goes well and you have a quick recovery.
  8. Some people lose quickly & some lose slowly. It’s just how it is. The only thing you can rely on is that your weight of loss will slow over time. Not sure what weight you started at, but if you have more to lose you often lose more in the beginning. If your doctors were concerned they would have said something so enjoy your loss - it’s worth celebrating.

    Welcome to the three week stall. Almost everyone goes through this & you’re not doing anything wrong. The first stall, yes the first, usually starts in week 3 hence the name but it can occur before or after that time too. They usually last 1-3 weeks. Frustrating but very much part of weight loss. Stalls are your body taking stock of your weight loss & reacting to the stress of the changes you’re making. The first is often in response to the surgery, reduced calories, etc.. Your body uses this time to reset your metabolism, hunger hormones, etc. & is a necessary part of your weight loss. Your weight loss will never be a consistently straight line in a downwards direction. It will waver up & down. At times is won’t move, move slowly or move quickly. Though the scale isn’t moving some people notice their body measurements still reduce. Stick to your plan. Don’t stress your body more than your plan advises. Your weight loss will start again when your body is ready.

    Hair loss

    I had my surgery in November and my hair loss is really starting. I’ve been taking a hair skin and nails vitamin in addition to my regular ones but I just started using the Nioxin set. I figured it can’t hurt and it’s supposed to be pretty helpful and they have color safe options. It’s $55 for the set at Ulta/Amazon but my hairdresser sold it to me what she buys it for ~$25.
  11. I'm sorry I don't really understand your concern OP. If I had lost enormous amounts of weight right after my sleeve then I would have been over the moon, LOL. When you say you think you're losing weight too fast - what do you mean? Too fast for what?? As the others have said - it's likely that some will be water weight and some will be attributable to the different scales you used. It's likely you will settle into a rate of loss that reflects your starting weight and how well you adhere to the rules of whatever surgery you had. If you could share your starting weight and your surgery type (or better still fill in all the stats you can on your profile here) then people here might be able to comment more specifically on your particular situation. There's a lot of expertise - really helped me! Best of luck.
  12. My best guess is that it's mostly water loss as@catwoman7 mentioned. Some on pre-op diets lose a lot of water weight (mainly low carb diets do that) so maybe that is what you are experiencing. You may enter a stall soon since it sounds like your body is adjusting. Please make sure you stay hydrated and contact your surgeon if you experience other symptoms.

    Hair loss

    Though you are losing hair at a more rapid rate (this is hair you would have lost anyway as part of your usual & natural shedding cycle) your new hair is still growing just at it’s usual rate. Hair grows slowly. It will likely take another month or so before you’ll start to notice short fluffy bits of new hair. Your hair is dead (only the root is alive much like your nails are dead but the nail bed is alive) & will fall out. Taking supplements won’t bring your hair back to life or stop it falling. All it may do is make your new growth stronger. Many of us cut our hair shorter as shorter hair tends to be fuller & bouncier. Plus it will take less time for your new growth to catch up to the length of your existing hair. If your hair loss is great, try a wig or some temporary extensions (clip-in my be easier & more gentle on your hair than bonded - ask your hairdresser).

    Feeling pretty low

    It's very normal to have feelings of regret early on. The first few weeks after surgery are the hardest because you're still recovering from major surgery, adjusting to your new stomach, very limited in what you can eat, and you haven't seen the benefits of the weight loss yet. For most people, things just get better from there. You will soon get to start reintroducing "normal" food and you will lose more weight than you ever thought possible. There were many times at the beginning that I wondered, "Why did I do this to myself?!" but now I'm almost 3 years out and that rough early post-op period is barely a blip in my memory. Have faith and give it time, and chances are good that you, like most people, will only eventually only regret that you didn't have surgery earlier. By the way, stalls are very normal. It's just your body re-adjusting. Keep going with your plan and the weight loss will resume.

    Ive had this happen twice in life— after having a baby and second time after loosing a lot of weight on low carb diets— the hair does grow back and it doesnt last forever- take extra good care of your hair in the meantime, and maybe try a thickening shampoo. Other than that, up your protein and take biotin.

    Sounds absolutely perfect for 10 months out. You're probably in a stall - keep on doing what you're doing and it will break soon. I know it's frustrating but 91lbs in you are definitely the expert on your own weight loss!

  19. So I'll be 6 weeks post op on Sunday (bypass) and I still feel awful and I wish I hadn't spent every penny I own doing this to myself! I feel sick every day nearly all day and it's better lying down but how am I supposed to work or make dinner when activity makes me feel really sick and my family comment that I even lose all my colour in my face when I have to go lie down Food is just...rubbish? Nothing tastes great anymore and I don't feel like eating anything and even then the weight loss has slowed dramatically i managed to lose 1 pound in a week of barely eating, I'm constantly burping as well (as soon as I woke up today) I still have an upset stomach nearly every day, ive been pretty good about actually being sick and although I constantly feel it I've only got to retching 4 times (can anyone else not vomit even when your retching and gagging?!) I guess I'm just feeling low and upset and wondering if I'll ever feel human again, apologies for the bad attitude I'm crying even doing this and I just hate how I feel. I guess I thought I'd be feeling better by now Sam

    It will grow back. I get your frustrations I ran into the same issue. the sides of my head were noticeably thin to me. Now I'm almost more frustrated with all the baby hairs sticking out of my head 😂

    Hair loss

    I got my surgery in October 2022 and the hair loss is so noticeable now. I’ve been taking my supplements and it won’t stop. Every time I take a shower a whole bunch of hair is lost. I’m at a point where I don’t want to wash my hair anymore. I know it won’t stop it but it’s just so sad. Will the hair grow back or once it’s gone it’s gone?
  22. I am so sorry you are suffering this frustration. I applaud you fortitude and urge you not to give up. We are all different and react individually. Maybe you are not getting enough sustenance and you should speak with your doc. Our bodies will think we are starving and fight weight loss if we are not getting enough nutrition.
  23. I feel you! I haven't weighed myself as of yet as I'm a bit scared to, tbh. I think I've probably gained weight. I'm going to weigh myself next week as I'm coming on 9 weeks post-op with less than 30lbs weight loss. I still have problems with water (especially when working all day) and I don't count/track calories due to old eating disorder habits that focused on counting calories. I'm starting the gym next week too, so I'm hoping that will work!

    November 2022 surgery support!

    Hope everyone is doing well! I finished my 1 month training program, start a 2 month one on Monday. My weight loss has been slow, I was going to say non existent but then realized I still lost almost 10 lbs this month. I knew starting weights was going to change the way I weight myself since muscle uses water to heal, but there were some weeks were I was loosing a pound. Once I upped the water, which I hit now 78-84 oz easily and my protein is on point, I started to loose again. But can't complain, really haven't had any stalls and if this can count as one, I'm grateful for it. Exercise made me hungry, like crazy hungry. There was a day where I was snacking on cookies, quest chips etc and realized I needed to stop before it became an issue, so I'm doing 3 meals and a protein shake split into 2 snacks. I'm also thinking of doing a few days of shakes only, if I see my weight not moving much this month. I want to be in onederland by 6 months.
