Hey Everyone, Quick question, I am being sleeved Feb. 25, and was wondering about what to wear? I only want to take one outfit, to wear there and then again home. I don't care if everyone sees me in my pajamas, it is a hospital after all. Is is easier to wear a nightgown and robe, or to wear fleece jammie pants and a t-shirt?? I want to pack as light as I can. Or do you just wear the hospital gowns?? Keep bra on, or take it off ?? (Sorry guys if TMI) I plan on bringing my crocs to wear to walk around the hallways with, as I hear that you are up and walking that day or the next. Thanks for your input. Carol

Surgery 01/02 and getting nervous
Heath55 replied to Heath55's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Lorraine! My insurance and doc have me (barring complications) staying the night and leaving around dinner time the next day so it's about a day and a half stay. I heard walking really helps with the pains and since I know with vitals I won't be sleeping much anyway. The leak test both friends said they almost vomited over so that's excitement in the works, lol. I have such issues with permanency so I'm hoping the buyers remorse is minimum. It took me years to be ready despite my doctor begging me so I hope it'll be minimum to none now. I "kinda" have a have a good support network back home waiting. While I love my family, several of which who live with me, they are unhealthy to say the least and after much careful thought I chose not to tell them. I'm a therapist by trade and discussed it with my own therapist and it's just in my best interest. I have a few amazing friends who offered me to recover at their homes but there's something about home that I can't replace and my own space so I'm not sure what I'll do. Plus if I stay elsewhere I'll have more to explain. The syndrome that causes my weight gain causes me to need multiple surgeries too often so I can say it's related to that. I also hate burdening the worriers over the holiday especially when I don't have details to offer. BTW no TMI I need it all and thanks for taking the time! -
Surgery 01/02 and getting nervous
Lorraine Freeman replied to Heath55's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, it's totally normal how you are feeling, especially the feeling that you are obsessing about things. I thought I would share how things went for me immediately post op in the hope it helps. Day one post op went in a flash, I spent the first few hours post op very groggy but not in pain. Don't get me wrong, I knew I had had surgery and was uncomfortable where my stomach was removed but it wasn't an unbearable pain. I was on an IV for the first 24 hours with nil by mouth, just little sponge things to keep my lips moist. Day 2 : I was still uncomfortable and found that a few times I did have to ask for a little bit more pain relief, again nothing that a little top of mess didn't handle. On day two I was given protein shakes throughout the day and a jug of iced water to drink throughout the day. Drinking was hard and slow and I felt weird about not being able to just down water as I had previously. The wind (gas) as you call it, was really bad but walking certainly helped. I did laps 3 laps of the ward every 45 mins and pumped a lot :0s. Mid morning of day 2 I was given my leak test where they make you swallow what can only be described as the most fowl tasting liquid known to man. You swallow the liquid and they watch (on X-ray) as it goes down and into your new tummy, making sure everything enters and exits through the correct route. Sleeping was uncomfortable and as they kept checking on my oxygen levels etc during the night very disturbed. On day 3 I developed what can only be described as the worst case of the runs I have ever had in my life (sorry TMI) doctors were reluctant to let me home in case I became dehydrated but its amazing what some crying like a 2 year old can get you (cringes) so on the evening of day 3 they had had enough of the 33 year old cry baby and allowed me home, this was when they reality if the operation sank in for me. While I was in the hospital for some reason everything somehow seemed surreal like when I got home everything was going to magically be better after a good nights sleep or two. Obviously this doesn't happen and every day became like an obsession over the surgery, it was all I could think about from first thing in the morning til I eventually went to sleep. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't in a great deal of pain or anything I just couldn't get what I had done to my body out of my mind, it was like my mind was in delayed shock or something. Fluids were slow but steady and got better every day, however my mood and buyers remorse ( although you don't pay across here) got worse, the oh my goodness what have I done to myself hit along with the this is irreversible surgery what am I gonna do now? For about a week my mood was really low but with every day it got a bit better until about day 10 when I was feeling "normal" again. The best advice I can give you is take every day as it comes, don't be a martyr to pain if it hurts ask for pain relief, walk, walk, walk, sip, sip, sip and have a good support network back home waiting for you, not just for helping out in the house etc but for the emotional roller coaster that most people endure. I am 7 weeks out now and feeling great with no regrets but I am not going to lie and say its not hard because it is. However every day things get a little easier and I am a step closer to feeling in control of my life again. I know this is a bit long but hope it helps. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. XXxxx -
1st week was good - hard to stand after the surgery - had to have a catheter (eck) - as far as eating goes, I wasn't hungry at all - just sipping Water and eating my crushed ice kept me pretty busy. your stomach will hurt at the incisions but not a lot since you stay drugged up for awhile - after that the only hard part is using your abdominal muscles to help sit, lay back, stand, etc. as they are still healing. Oh and as I'm typing my wife reminded me about the gas - the gas is the worst!!! but the pain meds do help! you'll be so ecstatic when you release your first gas - either burp or the other side - feels soooo good. is that TMI?

I am having a hard time stabilizing my weight. I am clueless as to why but my weight fluxes so rapidly and unpredictably. No exageration. Last week I weighed in. Last weekEND I weighed in more than 5 pounds less. Today, yet another 5 pounds less and if it follows it s usual pattern I will likely be back at the starting point by s ome time next week. All I can figure Is Water weight, but I eat the same allthe time (admittedly I could deff lower my salt intake) why would it flux by so much so fast? I know I need to figure this out because how the heck can I lose weight when I can't even control it, and I wanna do so pre-op. Could it be hormonal??? (Sorry gents but small TMI ahead) I have severe PCOS... like 2x worse than it was 2 years ago and it was bad then. I haven't had a natural AF in well over a year, I induced one last June, and recently tried to do so again but only got spotting this time... no AF. If its hormonal then I am screwed because the only reset button I have is provera (to induce AF) and that's not working. This has been going on for a few months and I don't yet have ins. Coverage to talk to my doc about it, he called in the script for me as it was. Any thought, hints, tips on what could be causing it and what I can do about it? I am desperate to get it under control so I can show my sugeon I am serious about changing but that's gonna be hard if he weighs me in one month then the next I have Gained 10-15 pounds. TIA.

So I had my Psych evaluation this morning, I would love to hear how you felt about yours, mine had the "tests" pencil and paper but also a 45 min conversation that felt like 2 hrs. She asked where I was raised then went on to how many times I cry then on to something else then something else then she asked me if I knew what it would take for me to live after surgery and keep the weight off why I felt I could not do this without the surgery...WELL...how do you answer that without giving TMI!!! Lady I need a freaking stop button! The she blurts out of nowhere: "You are too hard on yourself aren't you?" I don't even know what to tell this lady at that point but thank God it ended. I really find therapy interesting but is it normal for them to pick and poke like that, I think I would rather journal or talk to a close friend. Here is my favorite question: "Do you think you overeat to fill an emotional need?" I consider myself deep but seriously I didn't know what to say I don't know what my emotional pit is this was way too deep girls that's all I can say. This Psych eval was exhausting... can't wait to see the surgeon on the 23 of November. Hope everyone is having a great week!

I have a funny NSV, or it may be TMI but I'll share it anyway. When I sit in the toilet, my belly no longer blocks my view into it. LOL I was also banded in March. I have some of the same as you all: 1. No longer drink diet coke like it's Water. Replaced with water & ice tea. 2. My clothes that I could barely fasten and that left me with a gigantic muffin top, now are loose and comfy. 3. Bought a couple new workout pants and had to go down to a size "L" instead of the "XL" i've been wearing for as long as I can remember. 4. I have a ton of energy and go on multiple playdates and outings a day with my two small children (1yrs & 3yrs). 5. When I went back to the gym for the first time since surgery, I was able to type my weight into the elliptical program and it began with a "1..". I'm sure there's more. I'm just a really much happier person in general! Congratulations to all of you on your NSV's as well!!

Stomach problems with Preop TMI maybe
~*~Rachel~*~ posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am just wondering if anyone else out there has had stomach issues with the protein shakes. I have had nausea and diarrhea this whole time and today it is worse. I tried a different type of protein from GNC it is still whey. I thought whey was suppose to be the best out there to digest and I am not lactose intolerant never have been so I know it is not that. Now I am not ruling out the fact that I may have a little stomach virus over the past two days when it has been its worse but, I've had problems this whole time. It's actually helped I am not hungry and I've made extra sure not to get dehydrated but its really starting to get annoying. Anyone else go through this? Surgery is tuesday and I really don't want this to interfere -
Well the scrambled egg with a small amount of shredded cheese & tablespoon of cottage cheese didn't sit well. Instant pain after eating it ( not sure if I ate too fast?), a little came back up (tmi sorry). Any ideas?

What's everyone eating one month out ?
suesleeved replied to hootney1214's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was 4 weeks yesterday and am on puree until week 5.. but tried some rotisserie chicken, refried Beans, avocado, chicken noodle Soup and a tiny bit of mashed potatoes. Did ok, but chicken made me constipated (TMI sorry) I still drink 3 Protein drinks and add some powder to non fat Greek yogurt .forgot that. Oh and a few homemade smoothies. I'm looking forward to eating cheese sticks again and fish and more chicken. It's crazy to dream about chicken lol going to try an egg soon! -
I'm scheduled to be sleeved on Sept 29th! WOO HOO, FINALLY! I have been put on a two week liquid diet. My instructions are to have 5 suger free Carnation Instant Breakfast w/1 cup of skim milk for each pack...to which I also have to add an extra scoop of about 20g Protein mix. I use that extra scoop at night, with "dinner" and pack an extra protein punch at night when I'm at home...to keep the hunger away. Works good. Other than that, it's Clear liquids. chicken and beef broth are my best friends, cause it's something salty and more savory. EVERYTHING else is sweet, so I need that. Plus, each can has a total of 6 grams protein, and drinking it hot really helps with feeling more satisfied. Gotta check the labels on the chicken one though. A lot only have 1 gram protein per serving. Oddly enough, I found Swanson brand to have the 3 per serving...but ONLY the one with 33% less sodium...with a pop can like top. If it's the 33% less sodium with a regular top, it only has 2 grams per serving. Will NEVER figure that one out. Anyway...here is my TMI question...is it normal, or has anyone else dealt with this? Liquids are what goes in...and liquids are what comes out!! Doesn't matter which "#" I go...it's pure liquid!! Seems logical. But seems to me I heard that just because you're not eating "food", doesn't mean you can't/won't have normal bowel movements. But I'm seriously questioning that theory! Is something not right, or is this just one the "rites of passage" into sleevedom? And the GURGLING that goes on...holy mother of things that are loud!! :cursing:

Non Scale Victories ... Please Share Your Ideas & Victories

Mine was on top lol. I was so uncomfortable with my weight that I hated the way I looked. My hubby would tell me I saw you have 2 c sections and I've held your hand when you were sick, I love you no matter what and think your beautiful but I just couldn't do it. Well finally after losing 54 pounds and feeling better about myself. We got a hotel room and I got on top and it was amazing. I was missing out. And the whole time he was telling me how sexy and beautiful I was. It was definitely one for the book lol. Too much tmi sorry -
Before surgery I had issues going to the bathroom. I took a probiotic daily and that seemed to help. 3 weeks post-op & still having issues trying to going #2. I was given the ok to take my probiotic, doesn’t seem to help. I have tried taking MiraLAX doesn’t seem to help. I have taken ex-Lax & that seems to work but makes my stomach really crampy. I have only gone twice in almost a month! ( I had to take ex-lax both times.) Anyone have any suggestions?! TIA

No kidding. I went for a followup with my nutritionist and she's got me reading about "Lactate Thresholds' and heart monitoring. Geez, I never had any of this information 40 years ago wen I was in high school and running. This might be TMI in the real sense of the words.

Sorry if this is TMI, but I have to ask. I was banded 9 days ago and since around day 3 I've been having vaginal bleeding. Not alot, but enough to get on your nerves. The kicker is I'm on BCP's-the kind you take for 3 months and then have a period. I haven't missed any pills and SHOULD NOT be having a period right now. Could this be because my body's in shock or something from the surgery? Or because I'm eating (drinking-ugh) only 500-600 calories a day? Anyone else experience this?

But I'm back!!! Hey guys... I've been out of the loop for a while. I guess I've just been busy getting to know me . I've been spending a lot of time at the Y and around the city with my family. I just want to be everywhere all the time. And thankfully that "emotional roller coaster" is coming to a stop. But I will tell you that getting stuck is no joke, lol... when they say chew, chew, chew...DO IT! I've had my fair share so far, lol. Oh, another thing... My confidence is peaking. I don't want to sound conceited but I LOVE looking at myself. I love fixing myself up everyday and taking pictures. You know, If you look good, you feel good. So I take that extra time for myself everyday and fix myself up, even if its just a coat of mascara and lip gloss. Its a huge confidence booster . For those of you who want to know if you'll be able to ever drink again: Yes, yes you can . For those 20 somethings who still have yet to experience life and the club/bar scene doooooo iiiittttt!!!! (Just know you're taking in a large amount of empty calories so plan your day accordingly) I had a blast this past weekend at my cousins bday party. Although I can't hang like everyone else anymore, its ok. Before it would take a good 9/10 shots of tequila to get me... now, sadly, its 3..lol. But its cool, its way cheaper now, lol. So quick update: NOTHING in my closet fits ( not even my bras & panties...tmi i know) but its freaking amazing. Last week I went to see Pauly D (yumm!) and I had to buy a whole new outfit. The only thing that really bothers me is the extra cash I have to put up to buy and buy and buy. I went from a size 24/26 to 18/20 so I need the clothes. Ay dios mio, tengo muchas problemas... (in my sarcastic voice) As far as eating goes... I really don't have much restriction anymore. I go for my second fill tomorrow so I'm excited about that. P.s: Im living life... who would have thought? "If you never did you should. These things are fun and fun is good" -The incredible Dr. Seuss
