Seriously 12 days out and not losing!
Christy5913 replied to blu2020's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@blu2020 I have to agree with @@Inner Surfer Girl, you are still swollen and your body is recovering. My experience was massive weight loss in the first 8 days and then a stall which lasted about 5. Also, I know this is TMI but I didn't poop until about day 10, so there are lots of things going on. As long as you are following your program, your weight loss will pick up again Good luck Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Discovered new Ready to Drink Protein Shake
anewbeckiboo replied to honk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't tried the vanilla yet (glad to hear it might be worth buying!) but have been using the chocolate ready to drink shakes from costco once a day or every other day since I was on full liquids. I'm having a slight (TMI WARNING) issue with "loose stools" this week though...I'm wondering if these are the culprit. I can't figure out why this is happening now but I think I'm using these more than I did the weeks prior. I've never had this problem before. It's been going on since Friday of last week. I feel totally fine...no stomach aches or anything...isn't that weird? Everything else on my "menu" each day is solid food. I only use the shake for one meal a day. I just don't know what to make of this "issue". I also use the 100% whey powder from costco. It's pretty good, but not near as convenient as the ready-to-drink ones are. -
Damn, the last two days I've been 81.1kgs, and then this morning I was 81.6kgs (tho TOM is due soon. Sorry TMI) So I'll go with the heavier weight. Last week 82.2kgs (180.8lbs) This week 81.6kgs (179.5lbs) So loss of 1.3lbs. Exercise 2 X 1 hour walks 2 X 30kms on the stationary bike

Can you just increase your fiber intake as part of your eating plan? Or try one of the fiber powders? I add ground flax seed to my protein shake and it keeps me full and excuse me...loose. Probably TMI, but it does work.

When will bariatric care catch up with the science?
dbqueen replied to Trillium's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
First of all, thank you to all of you who have posted in this thread thus far! It was so refreshing to find folks who can comment on these issues in such an articulate and intelligent way. I was totally (and pleasantly) surprised when I went to the "informational seminar" at my surgeon's office near the end of last year. The message was, "obesity is a disease, WLS is a treatment." No blame! As someone with a healthcare background (clinical pharmacist turned biostatistician), I was familiar with this "new way of thinking." That seminar was the first time I had heard any professional providing healthcare for bariatric patients actually articulate the concept. It really blew my mind! The psychological aspect of this journey toward whole body health is so important! I have worked with several different mental health counselors over the past 20 years. The first three were somewhat helpful but did not have a clue how to address my emotional eating issues, even though that is what I told them I needed to work on. Two years ago, I started working with a clinical psychologist who really "gets it." I wasn't contemplating WLS at the time -- I still thought that I could do it myself with a little help. After six months of biweekly visits, I realized that I did need to have WLS, and then hit a wall with my insurance company. The insurance company requires that you go through a year of monthly 20 minute phone calls with a nice, but totally clueless, nurse reading questions off a script that did not seem to pertain to preparation for WLS. You also had to participate in Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig for a year. Both my clinical psychologist and I agreed that I was ready NOW, but there was no way to penetrate the bureaucracy to see if a waiver was possible. So I gave in, and endured the stupidity for several months -- until about a year ago. My husband and I decided to move nearer to my family and bought a house in NH in June. I was hoping we would be able to move before the end of 2014, so I would not be "in town" to follow through with the program and have my surgery here in VA. That gave me the excuse I needed to quit the stupid insurance program. I think that's what they wanted in the first place! When it became apparent that we would not move until April 2015, I looked into the possibility of having a VGS as a self pay patient. Long story short, when I went to see the surgeon in whose "program" I was enrolled about this option, he unceremoniously accused my of "jumping the line" and said that the wait would be good for me -- I could learn better habits. Then he said he would not talk to me further and walked out of the exam room. As he was walking out the door, he said that he would refund my copay. I have never been so humiliated in my entire life! At that point I looked into having the surgery done with the other bariatric group at another local hospital, and the process has gone smoothly -- I had a VGS done on 2/19 and I a recuperating well. I talked with my clinical psychologist about my interaction with surgeon #1, and she was speechless. She does a lot of the psych evals for patients for both of the local bariatric surgery groups and knows all of the surgeons. She said it was totally out of character, but totally unacceptable. However, Karma gave me a chance to tell surgeon #1 how I felt. I had lower right quadrant pains and was running a bit of a fever and thought I might have appendicitis, so my husband took me to the ER. They admitted me for a couple of days of IV antibiotics for right ascending colitis. While I was in the hospital, the surgeon on call for GI surgery was none other than surgeon #1! By the time he arrived, I was feeling better and I also knew that he would be coming to see me. I was prepared. He said, "You look familiar -- have we met before?" I said, "Yes, I came to see you about self pay WLS a couple of months ago and you kicked me out of your office." He seemed a little stunned and then admitted that he recollected the interaction. No explanations, no apologies, but I feel as if I got my message across. I hope he never does anything like that to another person! I have been ashamed of my appearance for almost my entire life. After growing up as a "fat kid" I was able to get down to a "normal" weight for about 5 years in my mid to late 20's, but once I got married and my husband started having a lot of health problems, I turned to food for consolation and the rest is history. The hardest part about all of this was that I felt that as a clinical pharmacist, I should have known better and should have been able to get my eating under control. As the years went by, I started developing all of the expected illnesses, hypertension, high cholesterol, asthma and a boatload of allergies, depression, and sleep apnea. The thing that lit a fire under me last fall (other than feeling that I was in fact ready and could afford the self pay option) was that my HgA1c's were starting to creep above normal and my BP was no longer controlled by 3 meds. The fact that I knew we'd be moving in April and I did not want to have to go through the whole approval process in a new location weighed on me as well. I think I have gone on long enough in this post -- I hope it hasn't been "TMI." Thanks for listening, and I look forward to hearing what you have to say! -
Hi, I haven’t been in this forum in a while (life got really busy and the hospital I had my surgery at has a Facebook group/monthly meetings) so I got distracted. Just wanted some insight from others. I have an IUD and since I got it Oct of 2017, I have not had a period. Light spotting every no and again, but that was it. After surgery Dec of 2018, I had a medium period for two weeks following surgery. Seemed normal from everything I read. Nothing in Feb, had a 2 week one in March, week long in April, 2 weeks early May. Then I went one week without one in May and have now had one for almost 3 weeks now. My surgery was almost 6 months ago. Should this really be happening still with insanely long irregular periods? Especially since I have an IUD? Not sure if I should call my surgeon or my OBGYN or something.

Is It Safe..
Liberated Sleeve replied to PreciousCargo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I guess I am on day 7? Not sure if I count the day of surgery in my post-op counts or not, but I don't guess anyone really cares right? LOL I hadn't had a bowel movement all week but kept telling myself I really wasn't putting much in other then liquids and then today I decided I would search the forums on "constipation" just to see what advice might be out there and low and behold as I am searching nature comes along on her own and although it wasn't much I am guessing it was about what I have input!! TMI I know but wanted to type something and this was the closest thing to my heart!! -

So my husband is having gastric bypass in a few months, no date yet. He was asking me if I think his penis size will increase after surgery when the fat pocket in his groin gets smaller. So here is my question, does it? I don't know what to tell him

So I'm 1 week post-op (tmi) I had my first BM yesterday and I've noticed that my right side has been in pain every since... I'm thinking trapped gas ...I've tried walking it out but nothing seems to help soothe it other than a heating pad. Just curious if anyone has had any related experiences? MY SURGERY AND HOSPITAL STORY :)
New&Improved replied to New&Improved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was born with kidney issues so they wanted to be sure my meds would work so made me stay the weekend... I was ready to go Friday lol Its weird like I feel when I take medication and the pills go down but I can drink a lot of fluids maybe a 600ml bottle every couple hours... I've always drank a lot due to my kidneys and this is only half as much as normal unlike some ppl talking about struggling to drink 1 bottle a day??? I still take smaller drinks per mouthful but not like I expected only to take 100ml(4oz) an hour...? I'm always thirsty and I'm still on liquids so have my shakes plus I carry bottle of water with me to drink.. It might be due to my surgeon doing slightly larger stomach before the bypass? **Sorry TMI but my first poos were greeeny black lol** -
May 19th band to sleeve-surgery buddy?
Tkrk0325 replied to shay5413's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi there, I had my band to sleeve revision last Friday the 29th. Surgery took 3 hrs, was in the hospital for 2 nights. Now at 4 days post op...It's going okay. I'm super bloated and look pregnant, but I'm walking walking walking....that should help. I'm still on clear liquids and able to get in adequate amount. The pain I was not expecting was the cramping after each sip of liquids. I'm taking a med called Hyoscyamine Sulfate 0.125mg... that dissolves under my tongue...seems to help a little. I've been on liquid Vicodin and going to start taking plain Acetaminophen liquid tonight instead. I've had a couple of BMs....it was pure liquid. (Sorry....TMI but it helped me when reading other people's recoveries with all the lovely details). Good luck everyone. You can do this! Let's do this together!!! -

I can be cleared as soon as I can move bowels(sorry, TMI)...I haven't eaten nearly enough to have to go... -
In 4 days I hit the one month mark since gastric. I had been at the 3 week stall and all of the sudden I lost 2 lbs. I was super excited. Yesterday all I had for the day was almost one full protein drink and I made tacos for my family. I took a little of the 90/10 hamburger meat , a little of the light sour cream, a sprinkle of the cheese, and about a tsp of fresh salsa and mixed ut up. That was my dinner. Tell me why I woke up almost 2 lbs heavier?!?! I am seriously so upset. It's like im never supposed to eat. Very discouraged. I know this is tmi but I haven't used the bathroom in like 5 days but dont feel like I need to either.

girls only please...regarding TOM
bandster_1007 replied to bandster_1007's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
thank you gals for your input. i asked my band doctor about it yesterday. they said to get a test, but that some people are usually late like once. i said "late once...it is january and i haven't had a period since october...i've missed november, december's, and now january's. not to mention the one in october lasted for 4 hours. lol. as far as symptoms, let me just say that i have gotten the worse acne in the world. it's starting to clear up now, but it's all over my face and my chest even...my back...gross!!!! band doctor said the anestesia can cause that, but at this point it is my hormones and not the anestesia. and i have had tingly nipples. i know tmi, but the only other time in my life i had tingly nipples was when i was pregnant. please let me know if any of you get tingly nipples with pms. also, i have not had any side cramping at all, but i have had some center lower abdomen cramping, which is not usual for me. and of course, i'm tired, but that is nothing new. i don't think pregnancy symptoms are real common in the beginning anyways. with my last pregnancy i didn't know i was pregnant until i was almost 4 months. if i am pregnant now, then it looks like that will be the case again. i made an appointment with a ob/gyn (i usually just go to my pcp) for feb 4, but i go to my pcp this afternoon for a blood test. i will let you guys know the results. it's probably just crazy hormone's. -
That's funny, but truthfully, it's commentary.....and inspiration. Hell, if I could, I'd post it as a NSV... I know this is probably TMI, but the look of wonder on my face he saw wasn't based on how good it felt when I was in a certain position...but more my amazement that I could even get my legs and waist bent that way...

I'm 6 weeks out. How many of you gastric bypass people dump?
Jolisue replied to brown eyed gal's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I dump! ???????? However, my issue seems to be diarrhea without all the heart rate increase, cramping, etc. I have had a really hard time, and get stuck in a cycle, almost like IBS. Sorry for the TMI, but I would love to know if there are others out there like me. -
Almost 2 weeks ago I went for a fill. He added .5 cc's. After that I threw up constantly and was in pain. I went back this past Monday and he removed .2. After that I drink easier with no pain so I thought that fixed it. He said to do liquids for 24 hours and then eat after that. So 24 hours later I tried eating some soft food. It went down fine but the last little bit got stuck and I started throwing up again so I went back to liquids. On Wednesday I could only drink very small amounts. By yesterday I was able to drink more and I managed to get all my Protein shakes in for the day. I thought I had finally turned a corner. Then this morning I slowly drank my Protein shake. I got half of it down and started sliming and threw up. Now nothing wants to stay down-again. I called the docs office and they said Monday is a holiday so they will see me Tuesday for an unfill. I'm starting to get worried. I mean is un fill really all I need? Before that initial .5 fill that got me too tight I was able to eat everything and anything and was hungry constantly. Now I can eat nothing. I've gone from 176 to 165 and I'm still losing. Since my shake was liquid shouldn't have gone down instead of getting stuck? I'm not in pain so that's a good sign right? No pain just vomiting? TMI but ever since this started my urine stays dark and thick so I'm assuming that even though I can get some liquids down I'm still not getting enough down.

Sorry for the TMI LOL But, the past few days I've been having dumping syndrom. If it's not called that for the sleeve, I'm not sure what to call it? It happens after every 'meal' (I'm only 9 days post op....so a meal would be Soup, pudding, Jello, etc..lol) How long does this last? It would make it hard to go to the weddings I have to be at this weekend

hey all, i'm 5 days post op and i have 2 questions, 1 how long until everyone was able to bend over regularly? i've been trying so hard to take it easy. i have alot of trouble bending over to get my pants and (tmi) wiping when going to the bathroom, getting dressed etc. 2 i'm also having a hard time of getting my liquids in, i've averaged about 30-40oz a day which is not enough according to my dr. but i just feel overstuffed, about to pop, even drinking this amount, will this go away? thanks!

Today was the first day since I had surgery that we decided to go out to eat. I realized, there are way too many incompetent people out there. First we went to Wendys. I ordered a small chili and minute maid 15 calorie lemonade. They gave me a 'natural' lemonade and said they no longer had the other (even though it was an option on their fountain drinks). I asked them if it had sugar in it and they said no. So, I almost drank it. Then decided to look it up. In the 16 oz cup, it had 25 grams of sugar!! I took it back up there and complained and she acted like I was crazy. Then, my Mom took us to a mexican place. I ordered a regular taco salad which should of had chicken, cheese, lettuce, tomato. They gave me something that had all that plus green peppers, onions, and like two inches of grease. I complained, and the guy couldn't speak enough english to understand what I was saying, so I ate a few bites. I am now trying to fight the urge to vomit (TMI). It will be a long time before I EVER eat out again.

Has anyone had stomach issues from chewing gum? Sugar free gum of coarse. I will admit I have been chewing quite a bit of gum for the past month or so (Probable a Pack + a day). I have been experiencing extreme bloating/gas & loose stool for about a month. I originally thought maybe it was my vitamins/calcium or food but eliminating things from my diet & putting vitamins on hold for a week with no improvement in my stomach has helped me come to the realization that it may be the gum. Duh! Just wondering if any fellow sleevers have experienced this problem. (My stomach rumbles & gurgles all day long with unbelievable bloat & gas) tmi.. I'm sure [emoji12]

Today Is My Seminar/husband Still Not Supportive
OldMomOf3 replied to knknosmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This might be TMI here, but... I wasn't sure my husband would support me, but when I brought up the issue, and told him I wanted the surgery because my weight was inhibiting my ability to enjoy sex, he was listening. When I told him I really wanted to jump on top of him naked and make love in broad daylight and feel great about it like we did as newlyweds, he warmed up to the idea....quickly. No, it wasn't because he wanted me to look different, it was because he wanted me to feel great about being naked with him and making love more freely. Now, just 28 pounds lighter and 2 months post surgery, I enjoy sex much more and it makes him enjoy it more too because he knows I feel better about myself already (and the 28 lbs barely shows, I just feel better in my mind). Of course there were other reasons as well - reasons why we both ended up seeing the surgery as a good idea for me, and he was amazingly supportive once he got his mind around it. Nevertheless, if sex has been a challenge for you, as it can be for so many of use when we don't like our bodies, maybe that is something you can bring up with him because it will improve his quality of life too.
