Do I need a wheelchair... what about protein for flights?
VSG4Mag replied to AK_Bookworm's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I don't think you will need a wheelchair. They want you walking as much as possible. I would just arrange for your bags to be handled by your driver and check in curb side. Dont pack too much for your carry-on bc you shouldn't be lifting more then 10 pounds. I just flew from NY to FL and was able to bring 2 premier protein shakes on board with me. I called TSA ahead of time and you can bring pre-mixed shakes for medical purposes. I didn't need a note. I didn't mind them opening them, bc I put them in the freezer for a couple of hours and transported them in a soft lunch cooler. They were being consumed that night so it didn't make a difference. But they said some people don't want them opened so they just get a pat down. -
I too am fed up with sweets. Prior to surgery inat seasonally and organic with one cheat meal a month. I had surgery for PCOS. Had to call my nutritionist because I can't even get my protein shake down. 6oz at best.

Norcali, if you are happy with your weight loss without surgery, then by all means don't get it. For many of us, we could starve down to a weight only to have our bodies drive us back over a set point, the dreaded regain plus. Although the exact mechanisms aren't fully understood yet, VSG alters the body's set point and, by removing a main ghrelin producer, disrupts hunger centers. yes, caloric intake is lower. That's how all people lose weight. The biggest difference is you are hopefully not whiteknuckling it through the day while eating less. As for the suggestions to eat sugar free puddings, those are merely suggestions, not requirements. I did not eat them bc I hate fake sweet (not really a sweet fan, anyway). A good bariatric center works with you to tailor the nutrition to you. It sounds like you just like how you are so congrats and be well.

So I have surgery april 26th, I'm getting so close haha but one of my main fears is getting excess skin where ill need surgery. I am 5'6 275 pounds and I am 20 years old. I definitely carry my weight well right now and no one ever thinks I'm above 220. I do plan on getting my boobs done after but I'm so worried about my arms and stomach. I know ill either have lots of excess skin or ill be okay, and there's no way of knowing until I get there but I'm curious of anyone with similar age and stats could give me some insight on if they had lots or minimal excess skin! I haven't taken any pictures full body in a while bc its embarrassing to me lol but this picture was when i was 256 to give a idea, just add 20 pounds onto me lol

Looking for buddies Late March/Early April surgery
Krenea replied to SarahNKY's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm so sick of shakes! I went for my follow up on Wednesday, it went well. I was put on pureed foods then. What are you eating for pureed food? All of a sudden I feel like I don't know what to eat, lol. I'm feeling pretty well though, I think I'll go back to work mid week or beginning of next week. Honestly, I have enjoyed being off and foxusing on myself, I'm a mental health social worker so the break was good bc it never stops at work. What about you, do you work and if so, when do you return to work? -
I had my surgery on April 4th at 5 pm here in the UK. I spent 48 hours in the hospital on fluids as I was unable to keep anything down for the first 24 hours. I swear it was due to the pain meds. I was vomiting blood. I was able to shower and walk around, but continually felt sick to my stomach. Finally, Thursday I refused pain meds and have felt good. I'm not sick to my stomach any more and I have not thrown up. I even went to the store Friday and walked around. I have 4 incisions which itch more than they are sore. I do have a few problems though. My first problem I am having is under my left breast I have this huge amount of pressure (almost feels as if I pulled a muscle). I also get this pressure when I eat or drink. Is this normal? My surgeon said it could be gas build-up still but I constantly burp lol. My second problem is...and I keep seeing different amounts...my water intake (it took me all day to get in 250ml). I just can not seem to do it. After a few tiny sips I get a horrible pressure in my chest. I'm not using a straw and am drinking really tiny sips. Is the pressure normal? I am able to eat a few tiny bites of jello and I drank some broth (about 30ml). I just feel like I am hurting myself bc thats all I have had since Monday (other than iv fluids). I am 4 days out so should I be adding in protein?

I make a big pot of beef chili (with 90% lean grass fed beef, pinto beans, tomatoes, and McCormick seasoning packet) every week and store in 4oz portions with some room left. I eat this chili almost every day with about 3tbsp of Greek yogurt and Sargento reduced fat cheese melted in it. I got the cutest little miniature Dutch oven from home goods and I use that to heat up the chili on the stove. I mentioned tilapia in another post. I was told to choose salmon instead, but the dryness of salmon makes it less tolerable and desirable to eat for me. I like how soft tilapia is and for now that's what I'll eat. I don't like most things, so if I like it I'm sticking to it for now. I don't enjoy any meat except for the ground beef in the chili. I'm also having genoa salami with provolone cheese snacks which I found at Costco and little cheese cubes with nuts and a few grapes as snack. I just added baked ricotta into the routine as well -- I'd never had it before the other day.

My doctor asked me what I wanted to get down to. I said 200. He said sounds good. That will still put me at overweight according to BMI standards but honestly that stuff is such bs. I'm 5'10 by the way

Just started Keto 2 weeks ago and I really like it so far. I am still learning. It has helped me with hunger for sure. Although years of the "low fat" mentality make me feel like eating so much fat is not good health wise, so I am working on getting past that inaccuracy. I am a little surprised that I haven't gained and went down two pounds the first week after stalling for a few weeks. Doing smoothies, chicken and veggies soup, veggies and grass fed beef or chicken. Also doing almond crust Pizza. I am going to make a keto casserole this weekend. Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app

What are the must haves for the liquid diet? My doc doesn't require the liquid diet or a diet at all Bc I'm going to be having the mini sleeve done. But I would like to still do the liquid diet for a week at least. Thanks

Lurker finally asking questions: Who did you tell?
VSG4Mag replied to Aijan's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Just my husband and my 2 best friends. I didn't tell another best friend bc she has a big mouth. I made a similar post called "has anyone kept it a secret". I'm new here so I couldn't tell you how to search it but there are a bunch of responses that cover it. I feel the same as you. Some people think it's being a liar or deceptive, but I just chose to keep it personal. I'm not boasting myself as some weight loss guru. The sleeve had such a short recovery time that it's easy to keep from people. The first three days were tough, but I was out and about for short periods by day three and back to work by day 7. Day 12 I flew to Disney and I'm totally fine. Nobody suspects anything. (Assuming of course you are doing VSG) As as far as losing weight fast and people obviously knowing...I'm not concerned. I've done strict diets and lost 45 pounds in 3 months, so it's not my first time around this block. -
Rant: I had gastric sleeve surgery 12/2/2015. My highest weight was 307 pounds and my current weight is roughly 194 pounds. I moved to Florida late last year after my divorce and I have received the most attention I have ever gotten in my life. Guys would stare, give me a compliment or speak but never ask me out. A friend suggested I try online dating. I tried eHarmony, Plenty of Fish, Ok Cupid and Black People Meet. I made sure to have friends look at my profile so they could tell me if my online profile was decent or not. I do not talk provocative and my pictures are appropriate. I have gotten rid of every profile except eHarmony, but as soon as my subscription ends, I will cancel that too. I have gone on a few dates and the men who ask me out are nothing but freaking liars! They are either conceited, selfish, demanding or downright just looking for sex. My profile clearly states I am looking for a relationship, yet guys would ask to exchange pictures without even asking me for my name. And the guys who say they want a relationship on their profile eventually show their true colors and in the end you find out that they're just looking for someone to jump in bed with. Matter of fact, men would ask me to come visit them or if they could visit me, and that's just after communicating on the first day. WTF??? Are you not concerned about diseases??? The last guy who sent me a message on POF (Plenty of Fish) asked to meet him for drinks and was incapable of holding an decent conversation. I told him it was obvious he was looking for a hook-up and that's not me, and I wished him the best. I have gotten to the point where I am no longer interested in dating. Some people has found the love of their life online but I don't think it's for me. I have accepted the fact that being single is the way to go, that way I won't have to bother with being disappointed. Ok, rant over. LOL. With that being said, I am looking for friends, just people to hang out with. Anyone want to just have coffee? I am a sucker for a good coffee, Cappuccino or latte. If you're in South Florida, let's grab a cup, as a friend

Yaaaaaaa right! I beg to differ!!!!! I completely understand your statement! I do I have horrible endocrine issues that I can starve myself and not loose a #. I get it!! I'm also in nursing. Sooooo it's hard for me to sit hear and believe that a person didn't eat "one ounce" of unhealthy food to get where they are. That's bs. You and I didn't get to where we are by eating good wholesome food. That's where reality needs to be a big part of people's success.

Has anyone kept it a secret?
sc101071 replied to VSG4Mag's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have told my close family (all supportive, I'm lucky), all of my coworkers (that are all complimentary), and that's about it. I mainly tell people that I am not close to that I did it with low calorie diet and cutting back on beer. That I was doing it bc of my 2 year old son. This is all true. As for taking the easy way out, I don't have a problem with that, though I thought I would at first. I have found it easier, and something that I was never able to do before, losing 95 lbs. I haven't been this size since before high school. It might be an easy way out. But it was also the only way out! -
Thanks mountainman2292 I am prescribed antidepressants and anxiety medication I'm just .. hoping I'll be able to take my anxiety meds before surgery bc this b*tch can't relax

What Are You Packing To Take To The Hospital?
ilgc replied to CurvyCakes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Phone, kindle, some toiletries, comfortable/ loose clothing, slippers and gasX strips. I'm not anticipating much dry mouth bc my surgeon allows water after surgery but in case yours doesn't/ you don't know I'd bring biotene too. -
Hubby says " you aren't the one that has to be attracted to you" ..., WHAT?
LadyFurball replied to Dknal2's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Because I see so many others in a similar situation, I have to recommend some reading that helped me so much. I was not in a physically abusive relationship but the control, gaslighting, and psychological BS was off the charts wacko. It took not only friends, but neighbors and people who I barely knew coming up to me and expressing concern before I started to see it. A friend recommended a book, "Why Does He Do That?" by Lundy Bancroft, and reading it helped me SO much. I never felt my situation was bad "enough", but I felt so alone. It helped to be able to understand. I had the book on my password protected kindle (if he had seen me reading it I don't know what would have happened). This book helped me more than I can say. In case it can help any of you here or your loved ones, I felt I had to share: http://lundybancroft.com/books/ The book I read was Why Does He Do That? And Dknal2: (((Hug hug hug hug!))). Thank you for posting this. I am so with you in spirit, and I think your post has helped so many people already to be able to talk about this and to not feel alone! -
I am currently wearing sketchers light weights bc my heels always hurt before surgery and they are cushioned for that. But now I think I might go shopping for a true walking shoe.

Taking meds after surgery
OutsideMatchInside replied to ChaosUnlimited's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
This is complete BS, because they have you continue to take all your regular meds. The rules for sleevers are not the same as the rules for RNY but these practices use a once size fits all approach. You can take a regular vitamin as long as it is high quality. I suggest a soft gel one, easier on your body and absorbed faster. Making food addicts take vitamins that taste like candy is idiotic. -
3 weeks post op VSG, gaining weight
VSG4Mag replied to j15big's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If I'm being honest here, I'm almost 2 weeks out and have NO problem eating 4 oz of cod (allowed by my team) and I just had hummus (also allowed) and had almost 1/2 cup with no pain, no over fullness or ill affects. I just stopped eating it bc I got nervous and don't want to push it. I definilty feel full and don't want any more food, but I pretty much decided to stop eating just out of my personal judgement. Granted, I eat VERY slow. Like over 20-30 min period. And chew A LOT. But I definilty don't feel the restriction that others do...even others who are far out. I wonder why? I know that everyone is different, but would it vary from person to person? I am losing weight, 8 pounds in 12 days (14 if you count the 6pounds I put on during the hospital stay - sooo puffy with the fluids) and I do keep my carbs super low. But I just wonder why I don't feel so constricted like others. -

YUP. in the same boat, vsg 12/2015. don't feel I've lost NEARLY enough as I should have. I can relate to the working out, or lack of. I go see my Dr on the 18th.. I've only seen him 2x since surgery. AND I still am convinced something's up bc I can eat MORE THAN 3 BITES!!! hang in there.. sometimes I wonder if it was all a waste?? (I've started that thread before).. -
Low Iron (feeling discouraged)
VSG4Mag replied to Ivy383's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If you can't absorb it through your bypass, would the transdermal patches work? I got them mainly bc I have a tough time tolerating vitamins (pre-surgery) and I figured it would be tough getting them in with enough liquid post op. I also read that your gut (surgery or no surgery)can destroy many vitamins before they have a chance to be absorbed into our bodies. I cant tell you if my levels are good bc I haven't been teased yet, but the PA at my office said patients with them have no deficiencies. Springauto promo code gave me 40% off on patchmd.com this is the first time I can get my husband to take vitamins too- I just slap one or two on him -lol -
