Weight isn't coming off as fast as I thought it would. I've had a few days of not feeling well but so far only 1 dumping episode.

Oh sweetie, you will KNOW when something is stuck or you are eating too fast, or you didn't take small enough bites. The pain between your breasts will let you know in a NY minute. You will think you are having a heart attack! Don't try to drink anything thinking it will help...it will only make it worse. Take deep breaths, bend from the waist several times and hope it passes. Papaya tabs will help too sometimes. Don't make yourself vomit. You will probably have some slimming too. Sometimes, you might burp and you'll get some relief. The nice thing is that the pain will go away as fast as it came when the food passes thru. Good luck. I hope you never have to experience this feeling.

Hey guys!! I haven't logged in here in forever! I had surgery 4 years ago (surgiversary was on the 8th) . My highest was 280.4 , I dipped down to 193 and then got pregnant. I didn't gain much through out my pregnancy, i breastfed after, and lost all the weight and then some. i got to 184.4 i think . Then i don't know what happened. I got back up to 220.2. On may 23rd i started trying to lose weight, I went to a weight loss doc and got put on phentermine . It curbs my hunger for sure but i went from doing the 5 bite diet, to counting calories, to low carb, to keto. 5 bite was good i was losing but it was hard and i kept cheating. counting calories was good but i wasn't losing a whole lot and felt like i needed more structure. Low carb was good but i felt like i needed more than that. so i tried keto. which im on now. I like it but i have someone helping me that hasn't had WLS and doesnt understand it. It's still hard to get in a lot. Like Protein still makes me super full , super fast. so i feel like im forcing myself to eat. I started on aug 2 at 202.4 i think it was. so 11 days later im hovering between 200.6 and 199.6 . i feel like EVERYONE is losing faster than I am, and i had WLS. So....has anyone that had the sleeve ever done keto? I'd like to continue doing it but is it ok to cut back my macros? what should they be at? can anyone help me????? Thanks in advance!!

Keto/VSG help please!
OutsideMatchInside replied to futureskinnypants's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you have been cutting for a while already you aren't going to see the big drop that people see on keto if they are coming from a high carb diet. Most of their initial loss is liver shrinking, and fluids. You also are already close to your bottom weight so you aren't going to drop a ton fast. What is your inch loss like? I am in a lot of Keto groups on Facebook and one thing I notice is a lot of people are losing inches and not pounds. I think people on keto diets maintain more muscle than other diets but that is just my theory and a few things I have read support it. How are you calculating your macros for keto? I use this calculator http://keto-calculator.ankerl.com/ As a WLS patient you have a huge advantage over most people doing keto. You can easily control calories and do keto. Most people on keto eventually go nuts on calories because most don't track them, they just track fat etc. Not that you have to go crazy with calorie counting with Keto, but it matters. Do you log your food? What does your typical day look like for you? -
Sleeved and sent home
Sherry Rice replied to ohgeeasleeve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW! Im so shocked. I live in Dallas but didnt have surgery here. I had my sleeve, stayed in the hospital for 2 days then spent 2 days in a hotel where the doctor came to see me there each day. I cant imagine going home so fast. Im so glad everything went well for you. [emoji4][emoji106] 5' 5" HW: 259 CW: 235 GOAL: Healthy and hard 140-ish? -
Too high in calorie, too thick, it makes me gag, and yes, it has high protein, but that's about all it has. It doesn't have balanced nutrition, or other vitamins and minerals like Slim Fast or something. I didn't like it at all.

I've been feeling so alone.
Carrie_C replied to Susister's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Are you exercising at all? That can really help lose it faster. I can relate to not losing fast. I had surgery in May and I have lost 45 pounds. I am one of the people who have had really bad experiences being too tight. I have been too tight during my last 3 fills and have had to go have some taken out everytime. I think that has slowed my weight loss. But I am also one of those people who can't lose unless I exercise. So that may be part of your problem, I don't know. -

I realise this is an old thread but I had my sleeve done 3 years ago and am now happily maintaining a low weight of 115lbs...I was using IF strategies to deal with an 8lb regain which is more than I am ok with, and since then I have been experiencing pains in my left side, my stomach pouch area I think. Doing IF had definitely had a pouch reset effect. I noticed my restriction had somewhat dwindled lately but after doing IF it's back with a vengeance and a few times I have broken a fast with "eyes bigger than belly", literally, and been sent running to worship at the porcelain alter. Now I am careful to break fast gently eg with a boiled egg, but still I have mild stomach pains on and off all day, been going on for a few weeks. Pains are only mild so I haven't been to a doctor. But just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience! Sent from my CLT-L29 using BariatricPal mobile app

My wife is a professional seamstress. The same thought crossed my mind. But it didn't work out for me. I had RNY gastric bypass surgery and the weight came off so fast that it was totally impractical. Since you are a sleeve patient and since your type of surgery means that weight comes off generally at a slower pace, it might work for you. I did find that belts came in very handy. Also a western leather belt can be cut down and new holes punched so that I will track with you weight loss and still not look altered.

I lost alot of my weight really fast. But once I hit 213lb I quit loosing. It has taking me 6 months to loose 20lbs. HELP I am very close to my goal. I just want to loose 40 more lbs. I got another fill a month ago and I am at very good restriction but I am still loosing really slow. I am only eating about 1 cup of food a day. Any suggestions?

My Dr. did not care what I ate on my pre-op diet....all he wanted me to do is loose X # of pounds or he would postpone the surgery, and then we would have to start all over again.... Just so happens the shake way is the quickest and easiest to drop weight fast...so I did that, but I followed my own regime... BTW, my surgery was a Monday Morning....Friday I had my last appointment, including my final weight in.....after that, I went out and had my "Last Meal"....a favorite place where I knew once banded, I will never be able to go there again.... Then Saturday and Sunday I fasted, and good to go come Monday....

Cottage Cheese pouch test
Tiffykins replied to former_vbg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, I did it at about 18 months out, and the results were 4.9oz max capacity in 4 minutes 34 seconds before I felt like I was going to upchuck that One last bite. I've also done it with the Yoplait Thick N Creamy yogurt and could only get in 5oz in 5 minutes without feeling like I wanted to vomit. I burped up some of the cottage cheese because of how fast I ate(at least that's what I figured it was from). -
I do not know how it is that each day seems to go by so slowly when you are adjusting old habits and ignoring the temper tantrums that your body is throwing because it wants its junk edibles back. (Sorry, I can't call Twinkies and soda pop "food"). But collectively they go by so fast. At 15 months out, the agnony of that inconvenience is hard to remember. This human machine that I live in operates so much better with the proper fuel and diligent maintenance. Hang in there. All the pre-op stuff and the first couple of months post-op are a right of passage into a healthier place. Even on the pre-op diet (mine was 3 months) I began to feel better. My body was getting the best nutrition it had experience ever, plus I lost 26 pounds. I feel a vitality that I have never had before. I was 62 but felt 90 - a real bad 90. Now I feel like I was designed to feel and am much more alert (thanks to getting off of nine meds), limber, sexy, and happy. The journey has been sooooooo worth the sacrifice.

21 months post op and maintaining quite well ;-)
cutie pie posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
So i'll be 2 YEARS OUT July 2013 and i want to be under my all time low... !!! Wow!!!!!!! It's been a long time since i've been on here. I was sleeved July 2011. I've lost over 100 lbs and i feel great! I've been maintaining my loss through all my ups and downs (divorce, death in fam etc..). I'm booked and paid up to have a tummy tuck and some lipo. And if i still need it in a few months i'll have an arm lift and yes a thigh lift... since my weight has been stable for quite some time now ... Still hard to believe i was ever a size 22 and my waist measured 51 in... when i look back over my pictures from the past, at the time of the pic didn't think i was so big but now i see i was defiantly in need of some help. and i found it ( thanks sleeve and Dr Aceves) ... current info and measurements 5'3 149lbs bust 34 waist 32 and hip/but 36. I have lots of skin because i lost my weight super fast in about 7 months or so and i've been between 145-150 my heaviest weight since surgery was 158 but i was uncomfortable at that weight so i watched my portions and excercise to get back down.. i would love to reach 140 before my tuck. So i'm back at it again. Portioning and excersizing i pray i make my goal!!! I will post more pics soon. Bless you all and message me anytime i'm always around and drop by from time to time. 2 yr surgerivery coming july 2013... can hardly believe it. -
3 mos post op. I had a vodka cran and I got buzzed pretty fast with just that one drink (and pretty bad heartburn so I double up my zantac meds when I do drink). Make sure u try it in your house first or have a DD that night.

Hello, I'm Craig from Mayberry!!...haha

I am not nervous at all! It is time I do something! Melissa, how is the liquid thing going? I am struggling. I was told four slim fasts per day and all diet drinks/water. Then I spoke with my surgeon and he said I could have some soup. Let me tell you, after four days of nothing but a few slim fasts, that soup was the best meal! I too am looking for some new friends, who especially know what I am going through! -
I need help with a horrible stall! Any advice to kick start things?
joatsaint replied to megansmommy123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Something new I tried after a 2 month stall - interval training. I watched some Youtube videos about interval training. What I gathered is that interval training is giving maximum effort for a short period, rest and do it again. Interval training does not allow your body get used to the exercise, like it does with normal daily exercise. And you continue to burn fat for hours afterwards - as opposed to regular aerobic exercise. I have no proof that it works but I noticed that my weight started falling again once I started walking the stairs at work as fast as I could. Here's what I am experimenting with: I try to climb 5 floors of stairs at the fastest pace I can. One time a day. It is really exhausting and my legs feel rubbery afterwards. I can't climb all 5 floors without stopping for 10 breaths on the 3rd floor and 10 breaths on the 4th floor. When I can do it without stopping, I'll move to doing it 2 times a day. But if I didn't have stairs, I would use a jump rope or Zumba or Insanity Workout - 3 minutes going full out then stop. Wait 1 minute then do it again. The goal being a 30 minute workout. I'm thinking you over-filled your sleeve without intending to do so. For some reason all starchy foods make me fill up very fast. Once bread, Pasta or rice hit my sleeve, it's like they turn into a huge sponge and prevent me from eating anything else. I'm also careful to not drink too close to any meal where I have had starches. Rice is the worst offender for me. I can only suggest walking as a cure, and wait a little while before you drink anything.

Sudden Food Intolerance
AvaFern replied to CSchulden's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you eating too quickly? The first 8-10 months after I had the sleeve I rarely puked and then ever since then my stomach has no tolerance for sugar, oil, milk, and periodically random things like chicken and crackers that it doesn't usually have an issue with. So, in my experience you can develop food intolerance, however I also notice that I get much sicker, much faster if I am not careful with how fast I eat. Every once in awhile I'll be in a hurry and choke down 1/4 of a chicken sandwich, or a few too many spoons of vegetables too fast and almost instantly I have to throw up. For foods that my stomach tolerates, the barfing is usually because I didn't chew enough or ate too fast. Also, now I am paranoid about getting sick in public places, so before I even start eating my stomach wants to barf because of stress more so than the actual food. So, my post wasn't a very organized response, but I would try consciously eating slower and chewing longer. If that doesn't work, then it may be a sensitivity. I am the opposite of you...I am fine with moist chicken, but fish makes me barf. This was another sensitivity that only developed months after the surgery had been over and fully healed. Also, you're not bulimic if you're barfing because you feel sick. I had a member of my family feel nosy and say she thought I was bulimic which was offensive because I literally see her maybe once a year and she knows nothing about me. I puke a few times a week- not because I'm trying to spare myself calories, but because I open my mouth and the food I just ate comes spewing right back out. As long as you're barfing because you feel sick, you're unlikely to be developing an eating disorder. The trick though is to know when you're physically sick and when you are psychologically making yourself sick, so if you are uncertain, perhaps ask your doctor what he thinks. -
This might be my problem. I just posted about purées not going well, but perhaps some of my discord is self induced by eating too fast.

I agree with sassygirl too. Every hospital will accept test results (labs, x-rays, etc.) from other hospitals as long as you sign a consent form to release the records and you can even bring them with you in person. I work in a hospital and I have done this myself so I know it can be done. I would schedule a consultation with the new surgeon and bring everything with you to the consultation. I know it must be frustrating right now, but I have a feeling that once you are able to meet with the doctors, they will be willing to work with you to get this accomplished as fast and as hassle free as you want too. Good luck to you.

Sudden Food Intolerance
CowgirlJane replied to CSchulden's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would look for --- what makes dinner different. i would suspect eating too fast, pushing too hard on foods your tummy isn't ready for or some other commonality. I believe it is NOT normal to vomit daily after a meal. I don't think I vomited 4 times in my first year, much less in a single week.
