Oh, hummus sounds amazing. My doctor gave me a list of food I'm allowed to eat for each stage post- surgery for the first year. Hummus isn't on the list. The handful of foods that are on the list for my first week of food are mostly yogurt and cottage cheese. Some plain beans the week after. No meat for over a month. 😭 I'm with you, I miss chicken so bad...

I remember eating a lot of Greek yogurt and hummus. And refried beans.

When I got home after surgery, the first two nights, I dreampt of M&M's. I dont even like them that much, but they called to me. I cried the first two days, in the hospital. And then again the last few nights as I seem only able to get a couple hours of sleep at a time, when I wake up and wander the house trying to tire myself out. Last night my oh so skinny husband brought home pizza... my absolute favorite. I had to sit and smell it and my sense of smell is way better now than it was pre-OP. As I watched him devour an entire pizza there was some rage that built... Anyway, the point is, the liquid diet sucks. My doctor has me on only liquid for two weeks, then I can add yogurt and reduced fat peanut butter and a couple other things for another two weeks. I am so depressed when I think about food. But just before Christmas I get meats of all sorts. That's keeping me going. So maybe think about when you get to add more to the diet? Think about what you'll need then? That's the only thing that seems to help me when it gets really bad.

Started my 2 week “liquid” diet Wednesday. I am allowed 1 Egg per day, 4 Protein Shakes, 1 Serving of NF plain Yogurt, and unlimited broth, sf jello etc. I am not gonna gonna lie the first 3 days were horrible! I even had a small pretzel stick on the second day. Today I was quite shocked though to wake up and not be able to finish my broth. I have been having protein shakes and jello but I am nowhere near as hungry as I was and have tons more energy. Do you think I am over the hump? Is this normal? Also lost about 15lbs in same timeframe 😮

at Thanksgiving focus on the turkey and vegetables. Maybe just a 1/4 C of the stuffing and sweet potato casserole. Skip the bread. My first Thanksgiving post-surgery, I brought pumpkin yogurt for my dessert (while everyone else ate pumpkin pie). It was fine. A lot of brands make pumpkin yogurt this time of year. Stay active... -
Can't handle protein shakes
Dances with Carbs replied to bigdaddyff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try diluting oikos triple zero yogurt with milk and add a scoop of protein powder. Mix it and eat with a spoon like yogurt. -
I'm 3 days post op after having a sleeve done. I have horrible heartburn and burping. My doctor gave me Protonix and told me to take Gas-x chewables. It made a huge difference. It's worse when I eat or drink fluids. I'm told this will pass and I can't wait. Greek Yogurt seems to cause less discomfort than the protein shakes. The good news is that I'm down 27 lbs! 13 lbs were pre op and I'm getting a little more than 38 ozs in. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Me again otherwise my lack of memory will eat it. ive never been a snacker. I do still stick to very low carb. I do some intermittent fasting. And sometimes it’s good to fast a day once in a while. though those were unintentional due to fasting for blood tests or procedures. It helps. yes I treat every so often. A little sf whip on my coffee. And I have gone out to eat. One time I had a bit of sweet potato mashed. The second time I managed a couple Shrimp it risks my allergies but is a low calorie protein easy to eat if not too chewy. Lots of protein in least calories. I had a 4 oz veggie burger for dinner w. A little Bit of mustard a drop of mayo. I ate as slow as I could and it was good (soft easy to chew not too hard to swallow) but foods still make me sick. But Doesn’t start until I’m done. I am learning to see food as nutrition vs comfort more now. And that I don’t need as much to sustain myself. hard lesson. Still learning. Not to push. And if a food causes too much backsliding either I limit it or eliminate it. now the holidays will be tough but try not to think of sweets as a treat but nice bit of roasted turkey maybe and a veggie egg casserole or “pie” and look for low carb pumpkin pie recipes that you can make with protein. And eat a tiny bit. Or try seasonal flavor protein bars like oh yeah one or no cow. BariatricPal mug cakes too. Or just seasonal sf flavor syrup like skinny girl syrups in tea or yogurt or protein shakes. I find them at stores like marshals, Burlington, sometimes tjmaxx or home goods, sometimes Wednesday morning (whatever day that store is) I like our local Burlington or Marshall’s. They are cheap. I’ve meant to write about this. My nutritionist wanted me to share in a support group but I haven’t been able to get there. Makes me nervous being judged by others. So I’m trying my best here for a while. When I can. Though my energy is limited, I end up writing more if I’m crashed. Sometimes this is as active as I’m physically able to be. But losing the weight still gives me physical freedom of not carrying the burden. Despite the cost I pay otherwise. in hospital I was like omg what did I do but I knew it was the right thing to do despite how I felt physically it was either fight or give up and know despite all my efforts otherwise I’d have kept gaining on minimal carbs and calories. And adjusting to new habits and way of eating. I hope to reach goal and finally maintain steady. -

I was recommended thickenup but it contradicts with gastric bypass, my food intolerances, my pouch. It tends to fill the belly that I need to be getting protein and vitamins into. I have trouble with the ingredients I can’t recall them. There’s a jello but it’s very expensive. Small sips from my water bottle sets it off. I try to have wetter foods and no meats. The more I drink the more pain. And swallow what I can. Priority is protein. And vitamins. And just enough calories. I’m trying to split the breakfast, lunch and dinner protein more equally instead of skipping lunch. I need to follow up with a different neurologist. The neurologist I saw says I need a diagnostic hospital or clinic. But I was also told even if they figure out what the cause is it can’t be fixed if it’s neurological damage, that was my pcp. Yet she doesn’t quite take it seriously I guess because I, not totally dehydrated. I was asked if I was suggested to have a feeding tube, I’m not there yet. I want to give foods a chance even if I need to eat nutrient dense very small portions ( and still feel sick.) I bought some of my teas I could find like Yogi teas, natural India tulsi tea. I buy 5 calories ocean spray crab grape usually but now they have grapefruit. I make a small herbal tea, ice it, mix in ocean spray 5 calories juice (hardly any sugar) and sometimes protein if I need it. I have only one vice I started and that’s a small cup of cafe bustelo in the evening, seems the only thing to keep my heart racing into oblivion as it does all day. Instead of milk I take a rtd protein shake with 30 grams protein and use a little bit like coffee creamer. so far I’ve tried Dr. Praegers pollock burger as lunch when I need less protein, one pollock burger is 90 calories and 9 grams protein. I had two since they are tiny. Then there is a plant based burger (I couldn’t find more today) but it’s 4 ounce 240 calories but 28 grams protein. They use pea protein and vegetables. I got anoTher plant based dr praegers perfect burger 4 ounces, 230 calories and 20 grams protein. (They only had one) so I got the all American burger same size and calorie with 22 grams protein. I’m just not a big fan of onion in it. I normally like Gardein best. But these were bogo sale. And I’m looking for whatever has vegetables with more protein for the least calories in the smallest portion. So I get it all in one simple to prepare portion. i do soft boiled eggs even though they don’t like me so I go easy on that. a few BariatricPal protein foods are good low calorie meals for 15 grams protein like their pancakes, mug cakes, protein shots, I had my first soft protein bar finally. Admittedly I ate that between sips of yogi slim life tea with ripple milk. i like their soups and protein pasta but they do make me bloat on a bad day. In a pinch I grab a Koia plant based protein rtd, the cottage cheese is a very small finely blended cottage cheese and loaded with protein and probiotics. that goes down easier I sometimes put a little low sugar chia jelly. Maybe a teaspoon. my nutritionist recommended 2good yogurt. It’s good to blend with protein powder. Now I do a smaller portion. I bought aldi plain yogurt and mixed 3 ounces with a little pea protein ripple milk and BariatricPal toffee flavor pudding mix and it’s really good and 140 calories, 20 grams protein. The stricture is still a issue but if I’m careful I get the nutrition I need. I log my food by calories and protein but mostly low carb. Each day I make a quick meal plan, write down my weight and what main task I have that day if any. Usually a dr appointment or laundry. my biggest cheat, (for the fiber) I had an apple peeled and cut up what I couldn’t finish I feed the birds. They do get my leftovers sometimes. I tried protein crisps once. whatever takes the least chewing to dissolve so there isn’t too much to swallow l chewing tires me and I have to be careful. One would think I was older than I am. Hopefully this information can be helpful. Almost seven months out I’m actually taking it slow and doing my best to keep things moving along, I’m working on the forever “way of eating “ admittedly dairy is a bit of a allergy trigger but low fat dairy does help progress weight loss. Like TwoGood yogurt, good culture cottage cheese. the hard part is the neurological problems, dysphasia, inability to truly taste food. I sparingly add things to add punch. I’m also now officially in menopause. I’m working against a lot. Not for attention or accolades or pity but in hopes that something I say can benefit someone. -

I forgot writing last night and wanted to avoid a doctor appointment this morning, meeting the nurse for a treatment for interstitial cystitis but I had a really bad reaction the last time and had to discuss possible alternatives. The nurse in my doctor office felt bad leaving me with nothing for the severe pain from IC but bariatric surgery means I need to change my approach to some things. Which my body isn’t keen on medication anyway. I have severe chemical sensitivities. so I had to postpone what to do until I see a spine surgeon, and other doctor appointments. I’m exhausted. To say the least. And needed to get some errands. In before I crash for the rest of the day. I was able to exchange shorts for a smaller size in Kohl’s and return a jacket that was suddenly too big . And needed groceries since I’m trying to listen to my nutritionist and try new foods. I got dr praegers veggie burgers, pollock burgers because they are a blend of protein and soft vegetables. And some egg frittata things not as much protein but low calories with egg and vegetables. I am still having to eat very soft foods but working around it. i mix plain yogurt with protein or BariatricPal pudding mix. I buy good culture cottage cheese cups because a small cup is only 110 calories and 19 grams protein. I definitely can’t drink enough water but doing the best I can. With tea. Hot or iced. Even though drinking even thin shakes is basically the sensation of being waterboarded. Because it keeps wanting to go to my lungs .... I just needed to ramble before I crash for a while. Literally crash as that is what m.e. Does (post exertional malaise) And no one in my life understands. I had a very late breakfast lunch. i had to organize the freezer and finally donated a few bags of too big clothes. This is the most I’ve done in months and I will be paying for days to weeks for it. hoping I can at least be helpful by checking back here sometimes. -
Sleeve revision to RNY or Bypass reason
New&Improved replied to AchieveGoals's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had RNY surgery 24 days ago and besides some pain the first week I'm doing great no issues getting my water or protein shakes in everyday.. Not hungry that much.. Surgeon said I can have shakes long term if I like but I have been having a bit of yogurt and hummus some days feeling satisfied! down 24lbs from surgery day. -
My NUT didn't give me a carb total yet at this point. I was told 60-70 grams of protein at 1/4 - 1/2 per meal. I could do 1/4 - 1/3 protein then 1-2 tbs of cooked non fibrous veggies. I would say most of the carbs I get are from the tiny bit of veggies or the natural carbs in milk. With that said I'm going back to Almond milk and adding in greek yogurt to my shakes to lower those carbs. My personal goal is to keep my carbs low and have them come from veggies. To many carbs is what got me here to begin with. That all being said everyone is very different and I say go with what works for you and your weight loss goals.

Oh my gosh not many know what psyllium is. My surgeon put me on it in August, and he said mix with water or yogurt. Neither worked for me. I found Trop50 was the best way I could figure to mix it. I am going to try this tea mixture, I love the idea and not all the added calories and extra crabs from the OJ. Thank you.

As usual great advice from Fluffy. At four weeks my doctor had me start soft foods which consisted of things like scrambled eggs, yogurts, cottage cheese, etc. No where were peanuts ( a good snack later on) or crackers (a useless carb) on the eating plan. Congratulations on the 50lb weight loss. You should always be "concerned" about what you eat today. Why? We are given a very good jump start to a healthy life with our rapid weight loss. This will not go on forever, it will stop. The habits we acquired during this honeymoon period will stay with us as try to maintain the weight loss for the rest of our lives. As my nutritionist told me, I have a clean slate as far as what foods I will let back into my life. She said choose the foods wisely today because they will be with me for the rest of my life. Be concerned about the carbs today as they will affect your success tomorrow. Good luck and good health.

It's normal at 4 weeks to have food apathy or aversion. You do not need extra crap food that lights up your pleasure (munchie) center. You got this surgery to lose weight, to lose weight quickly, to lose weight with the least amount of pain/inconvenience of your life. Lose weight the easiest it will ever be in your life. Don't screw it up with crap slider foods that offer no nutritional payout except to make you hungrier. Embrace the nothing sounds or tastes good. Go without. We can all stand to skip a meal or two. I assure you, when you're hungry enough, that protein drink or yogurt will do you just fine.

Protein and Weight Loss (unrelated)
Midnightsun replied to lvidacovich's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think you misread my original post. I was saying My nutritionist was Only counting My Liquid protein for my goals. He did not count my Oikos triple zero yogurt as me reaching my protein intake. He wanted to make certain I was absorbing the nutrients I needed. Not that other proteins don’t add up just not every gram of protein is absorbed especially in the beginning. I was on 2 shakes a day and still as everyone else eat your protein first etc. i am now a little over 4 months. I am on (30 grams protein) shake/mix a day pulse to eat my proteins. I can substitute a protein supplement for a meal if I choose. I have been reading up on it too. The reason being our stomach is small, the surface area is small especially in the first few months as it is swollen and as time goes on the swelling goes down and we can eat a little more. With less surface are. Less acids to break down foods, the stomach is also emptying quicker so not holding it there as long; so shorter time to be absorbed/digested. The liquid proteins are already broken down and more easily absorbed into out system. If you google it especially the bypass it actually shows some percentages of what bypass patients actually absorb at different phases after surgery in the medical abstracts. Not saying at goal weight you no longer or do need a shake. That is there general guide/goal they gave me. I was referring what information was given to me and me alone. Medical information changes all the time so I don’t know if this is new information or just something some surgeons are now paying attention to. -
if they have you on an ultra-low carb plan, then saltines & noodles (in the soup) wouldn't be good choices. I can't remember when we were allowed to eat nuts, but it wouldn't have been that early out. At that point, I was mostly eating things like yogurt and hummus.

@FluffyChix i agree, I am slowing down on my protein shakes and starting to move toward other proteins that my body can tolerate even though I still struggle with more solid type foods I have tried soft boiled eggs, dr. Praegers plant based veggie burger, etc. I do mix some yogurt with protein powder but stopped doing 30 grams in one meal and splitting them. Add in I’m. It normal to the mix. But with metabolic disorders I try not to get too much protein or calories. I went by. Ratio of 0.8 grams of protein per kilograms of body weight? I’m math illiterate but I stick to around 48-50 grams protein at most 60. The more you lose the less protein your body requires. I still do drink either Koia for breakfast (plant based RTD) because I love cinnamon horchata and need the extra water. Or a little PESCIENCE mixed in plain yogurt or 2 good yogurt. oddly enough for some reason BariatricPal soup has been tripping me up with weight loss either ingredients, sodium or the protein amount I like to mix boullion with a pasta ... it didn’t seem to have much effect before so now I guess I’ll reserve it for occasionally. it’s hard as your body changes you will need to change the food you put in.

Hey guys I go to my dr tomorrow my issues, I have no problem drinking never did no problem eating all the yogurt and pudding I have no restriction and I’m concerned 😟

My Md had guidelines that I could only eat strained creamed soups and liquids the first 1-2 weeks. That included yogurt, protein shakes 2 days after surgery and then cottage cheese and refined beans began at week 2/3. However it is hard to drink or eat much initially. I used a shot glass to get 2 ounces at a time and a timer so every 15 minutes I would drink 2 ounces. Once I was on soft foods like 1 egg or tuna it initially took 45 minutes to eat that then a week or so later 30 minutes, then eventually 20 minutes etc. Food wasn't appealing and after a few bites I felt like I just ate a Thanksgiving dinner. It wasn't painful but just that blah I'm done feeling. I think around 3/4 months I could drink a 11 oz. protein shake in 30-45 minutes, eat a 5oz cup of yogurt or 1 egg in 20 minutes but not much more in one sitting. Suddenly at 6 months I could comfortably eat about a half cup of food total if some of it was soft. Not a half cup of chicken, but a 1/4 cup of protein and a 1/4 cup of soft veggies. Now at 9 months sometimes I can eat almost a cup in one sitting in a normal amount of time like 10-15 minutes but usually it's closer to 1/2 to 3/4. I don't feel deprived or over full.

One week post op and very hungry
TheNewNay2019 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 1 week post op and am following the liquid diet but don’t ever seem to feel full or satisfied. Not sure if I’m not drinking enough or what. It can be excruciating at times. The paperwork sent home with me says to consume no more than 2oz at a time of broth, yogurt, etc. Does this sound like correct portions? Any suggestions? -
Any Good Recipes For Chocolate Protein Powder?
Elialitem replied to gettinMeBack's topic in Vegetarian, vegan, raw foods
I like chocolate ice cream: 1 scoop chocolate protein 170 g Greek yogurt 2%; A small slice of pineapple, apple, or 4-5 tbs of orange juice (or grapefruit). -
4 and half weeks ago. I’m in the soft food phase and feel like I can drink water same as always ( the only day I felt I had to sip was the first two days after surgery). I need to constantly remind myself to not gulp water, but a bit concerned that I can gulp water. Today, I think I ate too much , but find it weird that I only stop eating because I know I should versus feeling full: am: pure protein 6 am protein shake and at 6:30 about half of a Greek yogurt /lunch out with dad :half of a tuna melt without the bread, heavy cheese ... I felt like I could’ve ate more/dinner at 6:O0=4 ounce creamy soup/ 7: 00=sugar free popsicle (30 calories )/8:00=cappuccino popsicle (40 calories

Screwed Today = 1st Thanksgiving -

Also, here's the cauliflower recipe. I now switch out the heavy cream for a little fat free fairlife milk, drop the olive oil and use a couple of olive oil sprays to roast the garlic, and use neufchatel cheese to replace cream cheese. I dropped it down to 1 tbsp and add 1tbsp greek fat free yogurt. It's much lighter. You can also thin it down with stock, but the ff milk is easier. https://fluffychixcook.com/roasted-mashed-cauliflower-aka-roasted-smashed-fauxtatoes/ (and of course leave off the gobs of butter melting on top--this is creamed gravy to go with the low carb chicken fried steak) -

Bahahaahaha! True so true!!! Hang in there and just power through it. And remember, eat turkey. But you could also roast cauliflower with a light mist of olive oil, then blend in Cuisinart with 1 oz neufchatel cheese and ff mootopia or ff fairlife, then stir in 1 spoon of greek yogurt, s/p, roasted garlic is good in it too. I thin to consistency of mashed potatoes with the warmed fairlife milk. So good, doesn't leave you heavy or bloated.
