C diff and newly sleeved:( TMI and lengthy. ..
Staycee Vanshel posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey everyone. I was sleeved on Veteran's Day and have had a fairly blessed recovery for the most part. The only pain and issue am having now is an active c diff infection, which I assume arose as a result of my post surgery IV antibiotics. For those of you who do not know what c diff is...this an intestinal bacteria is carried around by some people...I was a cna for years so I probably picked it up there despite following universal precautions. It is a very stubborn spore bacteria that can live on surfaces for a long time and can only be killed with bleach. Normally the good bacteria in the gut keep it at bay but antibiotics can kill all the good bacteria and this awful bug can take over.it gives bowel movement an awful, very distinct smell. It makes for frequent diarrhea and the toxins given off irritate thw colon...it can get very severe if untreated. This is what I have gathered from googling...so if there are any healt professionals out there that need to correct me feel free:) Anyway, I had c diff once a couple years ago after 3 weeks of clindamyacin from a bad tooth..and it was bad...there was so much irritation that I guess it pressed on my nerves and my legs would go numb every time I had and episode of cramping from it. I was constantly running to the bathroom and the pain was horrible. I couldn't sleep or eat. It took over a month for me to get ot under control and when I thought it was leaving me it would seem to relapse. When I started eating brown rice it seemed to soak it up and get it out of there...I started taking Probiotics and eating yogurt to get things straight again. This time I started out with a swollen abdomen. I had just figured out that I became lactose intolerant from my sleeve and the gas left but the swelling didn't. When I smelled the smell I knew! Yuck! Thank God I had my post op around then and started flagyl and probiotics right away. I am on my 2nd day of flagyl (which ironically is an antibiotic). I only wish I had been on probiotics since before the surgery. I really should have known better! I also battled thrush before the c diff showed up..blech! As awful as all this sounds I don't feel horrible....just very very uncomfortable:( Emotionally I feel the best I have since surgery...I am back to work, though very very part time..and I still have an appetite. Its uncomfortable because my poor swollen colon (lol) is pressing my tiny stomach and its even harder to get food in now...though I am still being vigilant about getting in fluids and protien. Flagyl is a yucky antibiotic...I can feel the irritation building up in my still healing sleeve:( It makes me a bit queasy at times but I have heard worst horror srories about these meds so I still consider myself blessed! Its very strange watching my weight come down as my jeans get tighter! I am not having bad diarhea episodes now...but I believe all the swelling has my poop stuck! Very litle has happened at that end for 2 days. Ok let me get to my point..anyone else out there going through or have gone through this? What helped? Outnof despiration I started eating small amounts of brown rice (chewed to death) before I was really supposed to..thank God it went down!..it has yet to come out! I also read that protien hinders the process..so I am going to try eating a bit of oatmean and unsweetwned apple sauce and drop down a little on protien shakes for a couple days. I also have been having smooth move tea every other day through this and prune juice on the opposite days. I think I need to have a diet that moves things along but not hard on my sleeve..any ideas out there? This is a very crazy thing to deal with at this stage of the game and I want it nipped in the bud! I know it will take time. Prayers and suggestions are welcome and I hope this may have educated someone and I hope I didn't scare anybody. Probiotics are important!!! -
Seduction And Pain

@Vicki...the first time my husband and I were together he went to "finish" on my tummy but it flew past my head and hit the wall. Apparently it had been a LONG time for him. The next day I called my best friend and told her I would never see him again becasue he tried to "finish" on my face....and it was the FIRST TIME...WHO DOES THAT!!! He and I still laugh at the situation now...I wasn't laughing then but apparently he was mortified. LOL Sorry if that's TMI I tried to keep it as PG13 as possible. -
Thanks :smile2: it absolutely takes dedication, but I wanna feel good when my clothes are off LOL I know TMI, but I know these next 60 days of Insanity are gonna take me there xo Desi

Thank you for answering me, friends. I have calmed down a bit, mainly thanks to the idea of bone broths. Yes! I can make bone broths and I can stomach that - and it’s fluid. So that’s my plan. I am so so grateful to you. Yes also to yoghurts and I’m 3 weeks in so broth and yoghurt. Last night I took a bit of the outside of my husband’s pizza and chewed it and chewed it and then just spat it out. (Sorry for TMI). I felt a bit better as well.. maybe just the comforting taste after nothing but water and bile for two weeks. So now I’m feeling a bit better. I have a review with the surgeon in a few weeks and I’m going to have a few things to say. Firstly, that it’s not good enough after paying thousands for aftercare that I can’t even get a phone call when I need one. And two, it’s not good enough for me to have been taken off the antidepressants without consultation or help. Thank you for giving me the support. I am so grateful. -
Will anything help with my saggy stomach?
rydersmama posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The majority of my weight is centred around my middle, so as a result I have a pretty low, hangy stomach apron. Now that I've lost a good amount of weight, I find it's harder to keep it from "popping" out of the bottom of my panties...I'm sorry tmi...because the skin is getting looser. I would really appreciate any advise on what I could buy that would keep this darn thing under control!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
So I'm 1 week post-op (tmi) I had my first BM yesterday and I've noticed that my right side has been in pain every since... I'm thinking trapped gas ...I've tried walking it out but nothing seems to help soothe it other than a heating pad. Just curious if anyone has had any related experiences? First Time Here......hoping To Get A Date In The Next 2 Weeks
Forensikchic replied to carriecat's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome to you both! I thought about the surgery for several years before I committed to it. I was scared too. I am so glad I did though! I feel so much better now. My back hurt all the time and my feet too. I was even having trouble wiping myself because it twisted my back (sorry if that is TMI but it was becoming a real problem for me). I knew then that it was affecting my quality of life! I did not want to live like this anymore. It was the best decision I have ever made and there is no way I would have ever made it this far without the sleeve! Love my sleeve! -

Oh my goodness I can completely relate to your feelings. They were identical to mine up until 2 weeks ago. I was just sleeved on this past Wednesday and I feel amazing. Sore, yes, but mentally I finally feel free of my cravings and good obsession. Literally it's like food, cravings, and guilt were this massive weight on my shoulders. Now? Completely different. I'm not hungry. I have no cravings. I don't particularly mind that I can only drink Protein shakes, broth, and sugar free Jello. Food has turned into something I merely need to work into my day. Not the focus of my day. It is super early for me but I now am 100% sure this was the tool I needed to overcome my obesity. I'm sure it will get more difficult to resist my favorites but by then I know I'll have enough positive momentum to keep on heading in the right direction. And can I tell you how amazing it is to get on the scale and always see a slightly lower number? I've never had that! I'm still bloated and constipated from surgery (sorry for the TMI) but I have already lost 10 pounds from my pre-op diet to now. It's so scary, yes, but it will change your life. Just prepare for a tough pre-op diet which is horrible for the first few days. By day 5 of the diet I could already see that my cravings were going. It was like the diet started to reset my mentality and surgery finished it. Good luck!

Anyone have the surgery date of August 27th?
d8106red replied to TCaruso70's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Had surgery 08/25/15, just 2 weeks ago. Was way easier than I thought it would be, I think physcially working out so hard for 3 months leading up made it a lot easier to leave hospital 24 hours after surgery was already back to doing 4000 steps, soon hope to be back to 12,000. However, I am the phase 2 of the diet and the past three days having explosive diahrea sorry if that is TMI. Also, still feel hungry all the time, being very strict with diet, probably need more fluids though, but definitely have enough protien and I even emailed the doctor asking to see if they actually took out enough stomach. Due to fluids I came home 4 pounds heavier, so in total I've lost like 12 pounds in 2 weeks considering I'm eating very literal I'm not very happy about these results. How is eveyrone else feeling post? -
Long time lurker, first time poster

Well things got complicated Friday night. Started having bright red blood in my stools (sorry if TMI) which surgeon said was fresh bleeding. Went to ER and waited almost 4 hours to be seen. Admitted Saturday morning with acute hemorrhage but no transfusion was needed. Bleeding stopped on its own and they sent me home Sunday afternoon. Glad to be home! -
Hi everyone reading. I'm 5'8 and 318 lbs. I've been looking into surgery for weight loss since 2013. I never pursued it at the time because my hubby and I had our 3rd and last daughter. I'm the highest weight I've ever been. My spine surgeon referred me to a bariatric surgeon due to osteoarthritis in my lower back and sacroiliac joint deterioration mostly due to being overweight since I started (TMI) my monthly at age 12. Any info on the process? I really want the gastric bypass done. I go to my first appointment with the surgeon May 18th...my birthday lol, I'll be 30.Thanks for any advice!

May 19th band to sleeve-surgery buddy?
Tkrk0325 replied to shay5413's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi there, I had my band to sleeve revision last Friday the 29th. Surgery took 3 hrs, was in the hospital for 2 nights. Now at 4 days post op...It's going okay. I'm super bloated and look pregnant, but I'm walking walking walking....that should help. I'm still on clear liquids and able to get in adequate amount. The pain I was not expecting was the cramping after each sip of liquids. I'm taking a med called Hyoscyamine Sulfate 0.125mg... that dissolves under my tongue...seems to help a little. I've been on liquid Vicodin and going to start taking plain Acetaminophen liquid tonight instead. I've had a couple of BMs....it was pure liquid. (Sorry....TMI but it helped me when reading other people's recoveries with all the lovely details). Good luck everyone. You can do this! Let's do this together!!! -
Gathering Staple Foods & Vitamins For Life
Dee_1111 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It takes a while after surgery to get to this point, because early on, every food is questionable. But as you settle back into eating real again, is when the hunt is on for things that are Protein based, nutritious, etc. Im not going to use Labels here just the item. We all in different states and countries with different product names. 3 months post-op, or whenever my 'Food Phases" were over. I was so gung-ho, anal, paranoid. I bought the Surgeon recommended Protein powder, chewable vits, Water bottles, listened to all the YouTube video bloggers. Bought the latest and best workout clothes my bank account would allow. Cuz, you know, I wanted to do all the recommended THINGS. Be a good WLS'er. This is not a bubble bursting thread. It a REAL thread. I was anxious to get started on a normal eating pattern. And one my dietitian & nutrition agree would be good for me. I trust them, their professionals. In short, I was testing lots of foods (not dead foods) and either loving it or throwing it away. But after all this time, I have I finally have 'staple' foods I will never be without. I even make sure when I'm at a restaurant I have a good portion of them in a meal somewhere: vegetables: Spinach, Bell peppers: all colors, Mixed greens, any kind of Beans, olives, cucumbers, Kale, celery, broccoli, mushrooms and onions. Non-negotiable. Any other veg I buy is to go along with these staples, I'm always trying new veggies, like okra, turnips, cauliflower, I even try foreign vegs if available, most I don't like. But at least I tried them. All vegetables are welcome except lima beans, not so fond of those. Fruit: All fruit, except kiwi & pineapple, not so much for me. So the fruit category is huge. Meat: All meat, except cow or anything that comes from a cow (personal choice) Dairy: none, (personal choice, not really the surgery caused lactose intolerance, I'm that 1%) Grains: oatmeal, flax seed, wheat germ, millet, Quinoa. Whatever grain I do buy, thess guys are still in the cart first. Vitamins: Here is a category that has hundreds of variations, according to our doctor orders. But in the beginning I did buy all the designer Vits, WOW.. was that some expensive pee, it glowed for Christ sake!!..sorry TMI..but the dollar amount was to high every time I needed a refill on a vit. It was my dietitian who told me to research vit stores near my house, with a price tag I could manage. Good call on her part, more practical advice than my surgeon pushing their product. This thread would be to long with the other things I eat, and try, but these are a few my staple foods, I'm sure there are more, you get the idea, everything else is just filler. Thanx for listening. Another thread about what I drink, including cocktails. -

Apologies. Not returning. Mea Culpa. Breast beaten.

I have found that if I start a thread that I am only interested in male responses........ then I state in the title something to the effect of "men only please". That way, the nature of the thread will show in "Recent Topics" as well and cue the reader that it is a Guy Room thread. Plus, it was much easier to just stop wearing all my panties that were getting all bunched up. No, really, I did ....it feels great going commando...... see, TMI. (I probably should have put this in the Guy's room......then again....maybe not ) -

Today Is My Seminar/husband Still Not Supportive
OldMomOf3 replied to knknosmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This might be TMI here, but... I wasn't sure my husband would support me, but when I brought up the issue, and told him I wanted the surgery because my weight was inhibiting my ability to enjoy sex, he was listening. When I told him I really wanted to jump on top of him naked and make love in broad daylight and feel great about it like we did as newlyweds, he warmed up to the idea....quickly. No, it wasn't because he wanted me to look different, it was because he wanted me to feel great about being naked with him and making love more freely. Now, just 28 pounds lighter and 2 months post surgery, I enjoy sex much more and it makes him enjoy it more too because he knows I feel better about myself already (and the 28 lbs barely shows, I just feel better in my mind). Of course there were other reasons as well - reasons why we both ended up seeing the surgery as a good idea for me, and he was amazingly supportive once he got his mind around it. Nevertheless, if sex has been a challenge for you, as it can be for so many of use when we don't like our bodies, maybe that is something you can bring up with him because it will improve his quality of life too. -

I was just wondering if anyone else tested positive for this? I got the call this am that I tested positive for hpylori and everything else looked good for blood work. I'm just wondering what is this anyways? I have no problems with my stomach or acid reflex and I was told most people don't even know they have it. Anyways have to take 2 weeks worth of antibiotics and usually when taking antibiotics (the last time I took them anyways) I get super bad yeast infection (sorry if tmi!) So I just hope these don't cause that! Anyways anyone can give me more info would be great thanks!

I have a question for those experienced sleevers. Can certain foods give you the slimes? This morning was my first case of the slimes. I had 1/2 a scrambled egg w/cheese and a 1/2 piece of TJ's turkey bacon. That was it. TMI (sorry) I am gagging and spitting up all over the place. I have never had this before. I have eaten more quantity that this and it didn't happen. For example, on Sunday I ate 1/3 of a small Wendy's chili and all was good. Soup and food of the like seem to go down much better for me. I feel like I have a lump in my throat, too. It is slowly going away. I took a good long time to eat as well. I was cooking for the kids and doing laundry between bites. The lump feeling (not the slimes) happened with some roasted chicken as well. Maybe I just need to eat soup for the rest of my life?

I hear that lots of people have the same bathroom problem you are having...I am having the exact opposite problem. I am not uncomfortable or anything, but I have barely gone in the past 2 weeks. I figured that it was because I have not really been eating. Sorry for TMI! Back to work tomorrow!
