6 months out and I get what I can eat fast and what needs to be slow...if I eat chicken breast fast without chewing like 46 rimes, I will vomit. In turn, I can eat end,ess amount of yogurt or cottage cheese with no problem. I think the more fibrous or dry the protein is, you really have to eat it slow. Tuna salad on crackers, I can move pretty quickly through, I dont get sick, but Ido get the gurgles for an hour

I am constantly trying to slow down my eating. I will get that stuck feeling and I have thrown up twice (6 weeks out) from either eating too fast or too much. If I do not concentrate on it I will eat fast just out of habit. I find if I read something (like the newspaper) while I am eating it helps, I put my utensil down and read. It really slows me down. Otherwise I really watch the clock and try to make myself go 20-30 minutes. The thing that sucks the most is the food always gets stone cold. Best of luck......

Discomort after fill and hunger Pains
lisacaron replied to laizaone1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
@@laizaone1 That was a very aggressive fill to your band at one time! What size band to you have? 10 or 14 cc? That feeling you are getting could happen when you are putting too much in too fast. Think about a Water bottle being filled up from a running tap. Only so much can make it through the neck of that water bottle and some air builds up around it inside the bottle and you start to have some bubbles, When your drinking in large gulps or big sips of Fluid your not giving enough time for the fluid to make it down your throat and through the opening in the stoma to your larger stomach and it creates some air bubbles and can also regurgitate on you if your not careful. This can happen with food as well and food and water together can be quite an explosive return which is why you hear many Dr.s tell you not to eat and drink at the same time. It's more a problem of stacking food. One bite after the next before the first bite has cleared the stoma and into the larger stomach. Also as water is usually heavier than most foods we grind up by chewing it will sink below and under the food in your esophagus and erupt a bit like a volcano if the pressure is right. Think about your insides being a bit like that, our bodies have pressure in them and outside of them along with the added pressure of the filled band doing it's thing. That discomfort could be the pressure being forced on the walls of the upper chamber (above the band) as it tries to squeeze fluid and food through the stoma and on it's way. If sipping and waiting and then sipping again does not alleviate the discomfort I would give the Dr. a call and consider having a small amount of fluid removed to decrease the pressure on the stomach. That growling of your stomach, could be just that. Not there because of hunger and if you are not hungry do not eat. My tummy will often make noises as I digest food, and sometimes it can be a little gnawing like hunger but it's mostly just things moving around in there. If I am not hungry I don't eat. Sometimes having some water or tea will help digestion and the noise will subside. Let us know how your doing!! -
I only ever had two criteria for getting a fills and I only got a fill if both were met. 1. I found it easy to eat too much and too fast. 2. I felt hungry too soon for comfort and self-control. Weight loss is not a criterion for me because we can have perfect restriction and not lose weight if we eat the wrong foods and, conversely, we can lose weight without restriction if we don't eat the wrong foods!

The worst PB Episode EVER today....
mwh2266 replied to sarahbellzz14-4's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
these episodes seem to come and go and for me are triggered by many different foods..It also depends upon how fast I eat and how throughly I chew. I have been banded for 4 years and lost 70 pounds.. In the last year I am up 20 pounds..but it is my fault..I also work 24 hour call and often eat to keep awake and alert..Any ideas for protein bars I can take to work to increase my energy at 4 am...and not eat hospital issued peanut butter crackers. I also get headaches at times from all the chewing...I need to get back on track...thanks. -

After hearing about the PBing I'm now getting concerned. I have been PBing at least once a week since my last fill. Primarily at my lunch hour. I figure I'm probably eating too fast to make up time and have been trying to slow down. I don't PB at breakfast or dinner. I see my doctor on June 6th and will tell him of course what I have been experiencing. I do feel restriction with the first couple of bites but not after that. No pain, no naseau. I do feel like I could have a larger serving if I wanted to though. And there are alot of things I can't tolerate now so that stops me. Should I be worried as well? Or am I being paranoid?

Are you amazed? I'm amazed at how easy the transition was for me. I assumed I had restriction from day 1 and have eaten accordingly, even now into my 4th week of being banded. I'm also amazed by how little food I need to be OK if I really take the time to eat slowly and listen to what my body is telling me, in terms of hunger queues. I have no fil and my swelling has subsided but on my biggest eating day so far I still only needed about a cup of food (and that was my biggest meal of the day) to feel that I was no longer hungry. Part of what helps, I think, is that my Protein shakes fill me up. Are you disappointed? I have no reason to be disappointed in the band. I never thought going into this that the band would do it for me. I knew about 70% or more of it was on my shoulders. I also would never have expected significant results without so much as a fill. I mean -- a soggy cast doesn't help mend broken bones, so why would an unfilled band lead to weightloss? In terms of personal disappointment, my biggest challenge is the drinking -- not drinking after meals. I can do this about 70% of the time. The other 30% I just can't stand it, so I put enouogh Water on my tongue to get the sensation of drinking, but hopefully little enough that it is absorbed in my throat before it gets to my esophagus. I wish I was better about this aspect. Are you tickled pink? I'm thrilled so far. Like I said - IMO - it's unrealistic to expect weightloss from the band before you have any fill, let alone the right fill. My scale shows a 45 lb loss it's also that time of the month for me to be retaining water, so the loss-on-scale could be accurate, or it could be about 8 lbs low. I know that whatever percentage of that number can be equated to fat loss is mostly my doing through making good choices, telling myself to stop eating, joining the gym, etc. Almost 50 lbs in less than a month - I'm thrilled! Are you mourning food? No, but I think emotional eaters are the most prone to do this. My overeating was behavioral, so for me it was more a matter of breaking habits (e.g. eating when I do this, getting fast food for convenience during business travel, eating late at night, etc.) I never saw food as a friend, or a crutch to get me through a situation, so it had no presence in my life to "mourn", so to speak. There are things I know I will eventually crave, but right now the only thing I'm craving is carbonation. Not soda, just the carbonation itself... weird!

Well I didn't get out of the house till day 5 and I stayed out for 4 hrs. When I got home I was supper tired. I didn't start feeling real good till day 4 I had so much gas pain. Every day my diet changes like yesterday I had mashed potato for dinner!!! I was super excited, ate too fast and it felt like it was getting stuck. Now I know what that feeling was when I was eating too fast, because I know I take eraser size bites. I have not felt full yet I am too scared to find out. A lot of my diet has been tomato soup. I work for a Head Start company and we have been in trainings and will be for the next 2 weeks. It was hard yesterday to watch all my friends and co-workers all day cater meals. I kinda feel " here I am the looser bring her lunch and smelly protein drinks". I just have one incision that is tender and makes me sleep on my back still. I am a stomach sleeper so its hard to fall asleep.

I have been doing ok with liquids, but one thing that has helped me is crushed ice. My fridge makes it, but it helps like having the chips in the hospital did. If your fridge doesn't crush ice you can buy bags of it from Sonic ( the restaurant if there is one in your city) sometimes the water just sits there but letting the ice melt gets less at one time. I over did it on the protein shake today and drank too fast, but any liquids (approved ones for your doctor) will help keep you hydrated.

Sharpie replied to send2steph's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
after a lifetime of eating fast it's really difficult to slow down. I am mostly successful but still after 2 years have times of stuck episodes from eating too fast I have started trying to slow down, chew more and avoid dry meats . Found out that I cannot do Chinese food , rice is not my friend. it's a learning process that goes on. -
I was looking for help... My dr. Says I have sleep apnea and I don't use that machine. I can't sleep or breathe with that dang mask on my face so fast forward 4 yrs now I'm trying to get approved for the sleeve and they are saying I have to have another sleep study done and it can take an additional 3-4 weeks just to get this done!!!!!!!! I am so freakn frustrated. Can any of you who have sleep apnea tell me how this effected your approval process? Thanks

Yeah, there are lots of opinions, diets and techniques. This fast track diet is the speediest I have seen. This is what I did, when I got the urge to push forward I just pictured my new stitches - stretching and unhealed. Gross huh? It works. It will get easier in a month or so when you get a fill.

Hey there! Its so rare to find muslims on a wls forum even though there are so many muslim patients who have had wls. So forgive me when i say you are a unicorn. I guess i am too in a way! Lol Anyyywho i am 9 months post vsg. I also chose an after Ramadan date for surgery so that i could observe and give myself enough time to adjust with nutrition and needs and to heal so i could observe the following year of ramadan. For you, its even better because by the time next Ramadan rolls around you will be close to 1 year post op! Im sure you will be looking mighty fine too. So, to answer your question about dehydration. I have to literally stay up until fajr prayer 4:30am to get enough water in. I also work so this isn't a very good combo because even if you get enough water you are not getting enough sleep. You have to see what works for you. I take naps when i can after work...but its super hard when you have a crazy toddler running around the house. I do what i can. There were a few days where i fell asleep and maybe ate and drank 500 calories and close to 30oz of water. But i was okay because i needed the sleep lol... its a little confusing i know but you have to see what works for you. Your last question about waiting 30 min to eat... ummm that rules goes out the window for me especially in ramadan. Unfortunately you do have to wait to drink after you eat because you dont want to throw everything back up. Theres no room! My advice is drink your water/shake/ protein before you eat. Dehydration is a real issue. If i feel i am not well i WILL break my fast and just make it up another day. It is what it is and there is no pressure. Allah knows our intentions so we just have to do our best. That hasn't happened to me as of yet, but i will be sure to update you here if anything of that sort happens. We are in the high 80's low 90's temp wise so I'm just going to do my best and if i have to break it i will. Hope this helps and congratulations on choosing to go through with wls to get your health and life back in order! Ramadan Kareem to you too! Sent from my SM-N950U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

Trying A Protein Shake Tonight To See If I Like It

Samantha it is the mechanics of the sleeve.. if you eat more than your stomach can hold it will come up really fast. YOur stomach gets full before your head tell you to stop. So the slower you eat the better outcome you will have..

I don't know what to do i have two sisters that have a Lap band One of my sisters lost weight fast my other sister is losing the weight very very very slow!! So my sister that is losing the weight Slow Said that she wish she would've done the sleeve And so did my doctor suggest that I do the sleeve Only because he says I wouldn't have to come every 2 or 3 months To be poked And the doctor also says because I have 70 pounds to lose that it's easier with sleeve And faster but my older sister lost weight fast and lost over 70 pounds just don't know what to do but going to the doctor every 2or3 months to have it fixed or poked it could be aggravating Plus it's money to go every two or three months in case it slips for anything that goes wrong but I'm just scared to get my stomach actually cut I'm just scared I don't know The doctors ready for me to get the sleeve or the band whichever one i choose but But I have to get a hysterectomy First Has any of you had a hysterectomy before the surgery or should I do the surgery first and then Hysterectomy Sorry for all the questions I just don't know what to do.

Thanks for your messages. Have been taking heartburn medication and pain meds since I came out of hospital and this is day 4/5 for me. I dont know whether I am hungry or not as my stomach digestive juices are really loud and the shoulder pain still quite intense. Have been walking around and have passed so much wind, but is still keeps builiding up so have taken some De-gas and hope that works. Keep burping also so I must be doing something wrong. Slurping my clear fluids too fast is suppose.

Musings from 3 months out.......
nurse_ally replied to texaschick's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm in the same boat as you are. I'm almost 2 1/2 mos. out and can eat pretty much whatever I want. I do feel restriction and get a horrible feeling if I eat too fast, but there hasn't been anything that I CAN'T eat. I've lost 42 pounds since July 1 when I had my surgery, which is just over 20 pounds a month, which isn't bad. I think we should be counting our blessings that we CAN eat, and are not struggling with the problems that some have as far as not being able to get protein and water in. Like someone said earlier, you're able to eat a small wendy's chili. Before surgery, I could have eaten a small chili, a large fries, a baked potato, and washed it all down with a large coke. A small chili or 8 nuggets isn't gonna hurt us  Keep you chin up and be proud that you've lost 48 pounds in only 3 mos! When have you ever done that before? -
Congrats Michelle! This forum is awesome when you are wondering what you're going thru. Here's to you healing fast :-)

Lap band - 26th July 2014
Nicky Cleaver replied to Nicky Cleaver's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just an update guys.... I am now on day 10/11 post op and I feel pretty good! No more gas pains and almost all of my stomach pain has gone, I get a little twinge if I bend down to fast on my biggest scar but that is it. I have lost 15 pounds already, which is amazing but I am really scared that I am going to get that stage where my body goes into starvation mode and I stop losing :/ I am still on liquid diet, having 3 Protein shakes a day and drinking yoghurt at times... I do get very hungry at times but I just have to think, I am not dying! It is not that terrible a feeling, I am just not used to it. I get to go to soft foods on Sunday which sounds amazing. What kind of stuff would you recommend? I have bought some baby food and I was thinking on Sunday I could have some mashed potato and mix in some shredded roast chicken and gravy, would that be okay do you think? Anyways, let me know how you are all doing -
Hi I'm now 5 days post op and it's been getting easier and easier to get down my puréed food... I'm actually able to chew my regular chicken down to purée in my mouth and it's been fine. It hurts a tiny bit after I swallow sometimes but i almost fear I'm eating too much. The first 2 days I couldn't even get down broth. Is it ok to be doing this well this fast? I'm not stretching my stomach am I???? I mean .. I'm sticking to the 2 ounces at a time I think.

HELP! Tasty Vegan Protein?
feedyoureye replied to SLF1027's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I lost 5.5 pounds on the test recently. It was all water, but happy for it. As soon as I brought back some carbs, part of it came back, but not all of it! I also gained renewed faith in eating protiens. I am a vegetarian, so I have been using whey based protein powders... I reallly don't like the veggie ones much, mostly the texture. I used many kinds of fake meat, Explore Asia brand high protein pastas, nuts, eggs and egg whites, I use Dixie Diner brand Beef, turkey, chicken NOT! products, morning star frozen meatless meats, tofu (you can use in a shake as well) Trader Joes meatless products (just look at the protien to make sure it is up there) I have been following the 5:2 on and off for over a year, and am now doing a version of the 5 day test on my "fast" days. So far so good. I have found the no flavor soy protein powder OK to cook with, like in oatmeal, baked in muffins and such... check out the world according to eggface for good high protein recipes.
