    Coumadin and weight loss

Most people's rate of loss is not constant so this could just be the normal thing. I know my weight loss stalled many times, heck I even gained weight here and there. I had to take steroids on more than one occasion and they are definitely known to cause weight gain. I broke my pelvis and femur and was hospitalized for weeks then disabled for several more months. I still didn't let any of that keep me from reaching and maintaining my goal weight. Just keep doing what you're doing. Don't get frustrated. Even if it is the medication, 3-6 months is a very short time compared to the rest of your life....and that's how long you will have your sleeve to help you. Good luck!

    Coumadin and weight loss

Yes, all the doctors and published side effects of Coumadin will proclaim that it does not cause weight gain. It can cause boating, which may account for some Water weight, but not "real" weight. However, as a retired nurse, I have heard dozens upon dozens of patients complaint of weight gain after starting Coumadin. Anything from 10 to 40 pounds. And they couldn't lose the weight. Nobody (that I know of) ever did any sort of body composition studies to confirm if it was fat gain or Fluid gain, but there were too many complaints to ignore the fact that the numbers on the scale went up for a lot of Coumadin patients. Well, that's wrong, the doctors had no problems ignoring it. As a new WLS patient you could just be experiencing a normal stall, but some of it could be due to the Coumadin. In any case, all you can do is stick on plan and maybe stay off the scale for awhile. Take measurements and pay attention to NSVs and how your clothes fit. Do they know how long you will have to take the medication?

    Coumadin and weight loss

Coumadin does not cause weight gain at all. Either it's a natural stall or a diet issue, or there's an underlying issue. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App
  4. Is there anyone that has to take Coumadin because of a blood clot after the sleeve. Is this medication causing weight gain. After sleeve I was losing fairly quickly and then developed a blood clot. Now that I'm taking Coumadin, the scale will not move and i haven't lost anything in roughly 4 weeks. Is this a regular stall so soon after surgery or could it be the medication? Is anyone else in my situation? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Pre op diet and weight gain

Sorry I'm going to warn you ahead of time, this will probably be a long post. So I was denied for surgery 2 years ago. I wasn't quite heavy enough to qualify. Fast forward 2 years and now I'm about 20-30 lbs heavier and I meet the weight requirement. BUT now insurance requires a 6 month physician supervised weight loss. I go next week and that will be my 5th visit. So far I've lost 8 lbs BUT due to hurricane Matthew we lost power so, not being able to cook, I fell off the wagon and gained back like 5-6 lbs. I have another weight recheck on the 21st and I'm paranoid! The dr doesn't have any record of me gaining the weight per say because I am in between appointments but what if I can't lose the excess weight that I gained back before my next appointment?! What's everyone's experience with this pre op weight loss stuff? I just have such anxiety about it because I was denied last time. Help :/ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Getting approved by Aetna

I didn't need any history of weight problems for Aetna. All I need was the NUT visits, doctor letter, psych eval, and no net weight gain in the 3 months. Are you sure you need the weight history?

    Weight gain

A total weight gain? Like you weighed more at your final weigh in than you did when you started? Or did you gain a pound or so while doing your weigh ins? I started my consulation in May and my first weigh in was at 225. Around the same time I got on birth control. I delayed going to my doctor because I wasnt sure if I was going to do it. When I went back in late July I had gained like 12 lbs. It was so hard to lose it during my pre-diet. My last weigh in was at 242.

    I'm thinking about a revision...

I knew you meant one week per stage. U might need longer... They took me off the combination blood pressure pill so I no longer have the diuretic aspect... just in a regular bp pill that doesn't cause weight gain..first change my gp made Seeing endocrinologist is a great idea to rule out medical problems. I keep thinking there is a test that can show if your sleeve is still correctly done....?? I hope you keep or kept logs if your diet reset and weight numbers to show the Dr. They love stuff like that pkus when we're re fat, ppl don't likely give us the benefit of a doubt when we say, the diet isn't working or related!!

    Weight Gained?

I gained 20lbs and got approved with bcbs federal but we discovered during my 90days I had a pretty severe case of chronic veinous insufficiency which precluded weight loss and can cause weight gain. I had a very severe case. Before it was discovered I was told by my coordinator that there was no way I would be approved. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Gaining weight before surgery

I think the biggest concern would be that if there is weight gain prior to surgery the doctors may be concerned about your commitment to the whole process. Eating habits must change and the surgery alone will not fix weight issues. It's not a magic bullet, we must reform our entire relationship with food for long term success.
  15. While on your weight loss journey, did you find that going for therapy helped you deal with your food issues? If so, how did it help? Did the therapist help you figure out why you were addicted to food? Do they have some special trick that helps you lose the addiction? How did you find a therapist who was good with weight loss issues? Several of them in my area list weight loss as one of their specialties, but I am still nervous about going to someone who just tells me to eat less and exercise more. WLS will help fix the physical issue, but many people (myself included) need to figure out the root causes of the weight gain. I'm going to attend my first support group meeting next week, so I will ask for some local recommendations at that time, but I am interested in hearing about other people's experiences with seeing a therapist to help fix your head.

    Any Iowa sleevers?

Abbie I started my process in May. But I had a weight gain on my supervised diet... So I was denied at first. It's not the normal amount of time. Mindi in Waterloo Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  17. I can relate to everything you're saying here @mrssoupmix my cholesterol issues are also genetic (not to mention the obesity). I developed Plantar Fascitis in the Army, and with the weight gain I've become queen of the frumpy shoes. And I completely agree--the procedures have come a long way. That's the first thing the surgeon told me after I shared the story of my father. I feel like this surgery isn't just about the weight, it's about EVERYTHING--the apnea, cholesterol, arthritis, PF, you name it. Thanks for sharing!

How did WLS effect your marriage...

@@Candygyrl & @@The New Kel I so.... understand and know that feeling of .... Wow, he's with her? A lot of mine also came from the fact that i was not always fat.... When he and i met i was a size 0... 100lbs 35-22-36.... We both worked in the public... he a bartender and me a waitress. So when we got together... everyone in this small town know us... and he was a bodybuilder at the time so .... 6'4" Blonde, blue eyed muscular man.... He gained weight but never like i did....I was ashamed to go in public... imagined in my mind that all our old friends were thinking.... Wow, she really let her self go. Why is he still with her? I got depressed and gained even more weight.... i didn't know how to control it... i never had to diet before and didn't really know how. I learned fast... hehe. Any way, i got fed up with the up and down crap and chose the LB. Thinking i would get healthy and sexy for my husband. and he will have no reason to be ashamed of me...Even though he never said a word about my weight, the mind games i played with myself were terrible. I really thought the weight gain was the reason we never had sex (are hardly ever)... and at first as the weight started coming off... We did have more sex... but then it went in the craPPer again. Like i said before there are a lot of contributing factors.... but the WLS pushed it over the edge. In fact he said.... Your losing weight was the worse thing that ever happened to our marriage. @@Candygyrl and you are beautiful

    AETNA INSURANCE? ?

Hello, Quick question. Did they require that you lose the weight you gained during the preop diet? I was recently denied due to my weight gain. No I didn't have to lose the weight for the appeal process... Mine went all the way to the external appeal they don't even look at if you gained weight

    Weight gain

I was just denied by Aetna due to weight gain. My doctor did a peer to peer appeal and they didnt overturn it. So Im waiting to see what the doctor says and whats my next step. I started birth control around the same time I went for my initial visit and I think that is the main reason that I had a lot of weight gain.

  22. I think your doing awesome, throughout my weight loss I've lost a lot for a bit then not so much! If your weighing yourself often you could even see a pound or two weight gain at times, but the great part is it does come off !! So don't get discouraged, You are and will do great!!!! 23. Having suffered with depression since I was 15, I can safely say this is why you have stalled. Also some of your medications may have an impact on that. When depressed, your body only knows you are ill, and will cope and try to help you by slowing your metabolism. This usually results in weight gain but because you had surgery, is instead, storing your calories. Enjoy what you have lost thus far and when your mood lightens, and it will, the weight will come off!!
  24. I was denied by Aetna due to weight gain
  25. So Im a little sad that my request was partially approved. Aetna approved the removal of the Lap Band but not the sleeve. Spoke to my doctor's office and they said they will have my doctor to a Peer-to-Peer Appeal. So I wont know until maybe Wed or Thurs what the outcome of that is. I was so excited and looking forward to it to. I didnt really understand the reason for their denial either. They said I was non-compliant with the band because of my weight gain but dont see the issues I had with it. So heres hoping for the best.
