November Surgery Buddies!!!
Arancini replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I got my surgery end of September and stopped losing weight for three weeks. It was agonizing!! On top of that I couldnt use the bathroom and felt super nauseous. I regretted my surgery and cried and felt very sorry for myself. Once I was able to use the bathroom (talked to my nutritionist about what to do) everything turned out just fine. I’m only (almost) 9 weeks out but the last four weeks I’ve been losing 3-4lbs per week. What I’m saying is: don’t give up. Don’t stress out. Trust the process and follow your diet. This will work (I’m also trying to keep that in mind for next time when I stall 🙃) -
Appreciation for the Vets
JamieLogical replied to SmilingBeauty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As others have said, I'm not really a "vet" yet as I am only 7 months out and a ways from goal, but I have been on these forums a while now and I have received and read a lot of advice, experiences, research, etc. I am more than happy to share my knowledge AND opinion with anyone who asks! I try to mostly do it in a constructive and supportive way, but even I get caught in a foul mood every once in a while. There have been a number of times when I've thought to myself "if I see one more post complaining about SLOW loss when they've ONLY lost 20 pounds in 2 weeks, I'm going to throw my monitor across the room!" Or "if I see one more post about someone stalling two or three weeks out and having a complete meltdown about it, I am going to delete my account!" -
March 2020 Surgery Folks Come On in!
ronjsteele1 replied to Mello1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had surgery 3/12. Right under the radar of when cancellations started to happen. I had surgery at Blossom in Las Vegas and saw my local MD for follow up today. He removed my steri strips and pronounced me well healed. I ate my first real food in three weeks today and that was glorious. I’m looking forward to getting this show on the road weight loss wise. I’m down 17#’s since surgery. And starting into the 3 week stall that others have talked about. Hoping for a quick return to normal so everyone can move on with their surgery plans. -
Any Oct 6 Sleevers out there?
retrieverguy replied to MarciaN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first three weeks it melts off. Don't be discouraged by a stall. It happens but you will come out of it and lose a good amount. Seems the body needs time to readjust from time to time -
5 Confessions (Join In)
goofycathy replied to ebthompson2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I confess that I haven't counted calories or Protein or anything else since surgery (9weeks ago) I focus on eating protein and getting fluids in., but I have no idea exactly how muchim getting. I confess that because of the first reason I'm pretty sure that is why I've only lost 34lbs. I'm extremely concerned that I will be here next year saying how much I regret the sleeve and all I've lost is 35lbs and $5500 I confess I have a cup of coffee with half and half every morning and at some point between my other fluids I have iced tea. I also use a straw when drinking it. I confess that I've never been able to lose 34lbs on my own EVER, yet I still don't beliebe when people say they can tell I've lost weight. I'm convinced they are only saying that because they think I expect them to say it. I certainly can't see the loss so I'm sure they are lying about hat they see. I confess that I'm extremely frustrated that when I had surgery I was wearing a size 24 pants and now, 34lbs later I'm barely into a 22, and it's a tight 22 at that. I confess that out of 9 weeks, I've stalled twice, both times for almost ten days each, almost three weeks of not losing anything but confidence in this sleeve! -
Kim2Bhealthy - I really have to watch it when I eat out. I start talking instead of chewing. It gets bad if I am really hungry too. I have found after two PB incidents that I have to take very small bites, chew, chew, chew, then swallow. Then I can talk. I didn't realize how much I talked while eating. In the past, it worked, although it is rather rude to talk with food, but I would hurry the chewing process and gulp. No more for me. My official weigh in has me stalled at 203 again. I was frustrated until my trainer said that I was obsessing about numbers. I was counting my steps taken each day. I had given up my scale for weighing three times a day, to go to one official weigh in per week. I have to acknowledge that I am living healthfully; the weight will come off. I have taken the step monitor off, just doing my 50 minute aerobic 5 times per week, with some weight training two 30 minute sessions, and I log my food on calorieking, so I am doing what I need to do. Best wishes to all of you, I will get to Onederland when I get there.

In need of some positive reinforcement
newoutlookonlife posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello, I am here to out myself. I have had an amazing journey so far but for the last two weeks I have slipped into an old bad habit. A little history.. I am 4 months post sleeve,I am down 72 lbs which is amazing!! I feel like a million bucks! Three weeks ago I hit a stall. I was okay for the first week but then the second week I was getting discouraged and it was Easter...so I had a few chocolate eggs. let me just say that I know my loss has been huge in that short period of time and I am by no means complaining but I never expected the psychological impact a stall would have on me.. I haven't gone one day since without eating at least one chocolate egg. My worst day would have been 6 mini chocolate eggs which is nothing compared to what I used to eat but still it is leading me down that slippery slope that I don't want to go down. I am very thankful for my sleeve, I have awesome support, I have a therapist and support group which I have been using. i have an support group on monday and a therapist appointment in to weeks so i am looking for some extra support in the mean time. I just can't seem to make it one day without one damn chocolate... I track my intake everyday and even with the chocolate I haven't been over 800 cals, 50 carbs or 15 grams of fat so my twisted mind is telling me its okay...even though I know that's the old tricks coming out.. Really what I am looking for is some positive reinforcement, psychological motivation, any things you have done in the past to help reset this mind frame. Thanks in advance -
Any Oct 6 Sleevers out there?
catlynk replied to MarciaN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Amboyd, I too was a band to sleeve revision on 10/5. I stalled for nearly three weeks even though I was walking nearly every day for about 30 min and calorie intake no more than 800 a day. I was very frustrated to say the least! (I even noticed a two pound gain during that stall) I have my next four week check up is tomorrow and I'm not getting on my scale until I have been weighed by the surgeons office scale. My husband had not seen me since surgery until this past friday and he could tell I had lost weight, and I for the first time could see it too. So hang in there, I think because we are revisions our starting weight loss is slower. -

ATTENTION to those who are less than 3 months post-op and discouraged-READ HERE!!!
JoiaRox replied to coloradobanding's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well written post...as a bandster who's six months out of surgery, I can tell you some of the things I've learned: 1. Overall, my weight is down. Do I lose every day/week? No. But, as long as the trend is generally down, life is good! 2. Do I exercise? Nope. Every once in a while I'll go jump on a treadmill or in a pool, but my body hasn't needed the infusion of regular exercise yet to lose weight. When I plateau, I'll get into it. For now? I only exercise when I feel like it. I do not live a sedentary lifestyle, so I'm sure that helps. 3. Restriction is a double edged sword. I was filled to 8cc in my 14cc band about mid-March...I lived for a month and a half on that fill, still being able to eat most foods but in lesser quantities. After a month and a half of that fill, realizing that I was still hungry most of the time, I pushed my doctor to fill me up to 9cc at the end of May...and then I went on a three and a half week vacation. I couldn't eat ANYTHING without PBing it back up (yes, I took small bites, chewed, etc.) and was miserable with chest pains all day from even trying to eat. That malnutrition cost me a month of weight stalling - my body was starving and refused to let me lose weight. I got back a few days ago, got unfilled back to 8cc and have lost almost 4 pounds in just a couple of days because I'm eating again. Be careful what you wish for in your restriction... 4. The LapBand is not a "miracle pill" or an "easy way out." For those of you thinking you were going to lose a million pounds in a few months...you should have opted for liposuction or gastric bypass. I chose LapBand because it is the HEALTHIEST TOOL on the market...I don't eat nearly as much as I used to, I don't get as hungry as I used to...but the food choices are still ON ME. I could have started the day with eggs, sausage, bacon, waffles, hash browns, etc...but here I sit working on a serving of Weight Control Quaker oatmeal. The girl I was 7 months ago would not have made that same choice. Rewire your brain...this band is supposed to help you do that. 5. Too many people whine on this website. Seriously? You've been overweight for a long time, no doubt, and have tried and failed with numerous diets...otherwise you wouldn't have a LapBand. WHY do you think this is another easy way out? WHY are you frustrated with your progress when you can't even pull your head out of your butt long enough to do some serious reflection on what YOU are doing or not doing to help yourself succeed? Seems like many of the users on this site didn't have their head in the game when they started this...your ignorance is only due to the fact that YOU chose not to ask questions of your doctor, do the research, etc. Don't be "shocked" that your previous dietary habits aren't working...don't blame lack of restriction on the reason you're failing. It was a good 3 months before I felt restriction...I still made the choices to eat healthy, eliminate carbonated drinks, etc. This is on YOU. Stop putting it off on other people/excuses - more than likely? Your blaming/creating excuses mentality is what got you fat in the first place. -
"slow Losers" And Long Term Results?
nikki264 replied to Carly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would consider myself to be a "slow loser". I am 13.5 weeks out, and am down 51lbs. I had the typical three week stall, but have now been sitting, (actually bouncing between 252-256 - started at 304), for the last two weeks. I expected the stall with TOM, but hopped it would go away after, and it has yet to do so. While it is frustrating, I know it will break eventually. My body is still adjusting from this major surgery, and things will be whacky for a bit. I saw my surgeon and NUT a month ago, and they both say I'm doing great and already consider me a success story...that's nice to hear from a doctor! I to am of the belief that we didn't get this done to be on a diet forever. I had this done so that I could be a normal, healthy person. If I'm craving something, I'm going to have it. Obviously, with the restriction our lovely tool provides us, it's awfully hard to over-indulge, (at least, I find it to be so). I try to maintain a healthy balance. I don't restrict my carbs, or fat, etc. I make sure that I'm getting all of my Protein in each day, and once that's done, I'll allow myself a treat. I'm ok with my steady, slow loss. -
Same. Three week weight stall, but down in clothing size! I have to remind myself it's not all about the scale and I will get there :-)

checking in with February sleevers
Dawn Hanaphy replied to Dawn Hanaphy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
anyone else stalling? I am trying to figure out if this is maintenance. I really want to say I lost 100 pounds. So I may have to start dieting. Ha probably wont happen. I am happy at 80 ish pounds size 12. I am a christian and my prayer for the last three years was God get me to the end of this bachelors degree and at a healthy weight. I am four weeks away from graduating. I am guessing God was listening. Hope all are well. -
I hit my first stall at the three month mark and stalled for 3 weeks. After that I was a chronic staller and had to fight for every pound. Stalls are fairly normal. They happen. Having as many stalls as I had is not normal so you'll likely be fine and not stall as much as I did. But yeah, it's just your body readjusting itself. It'll likely happen a few more times in your journey. I'd say to try not to stress about it, but from experience all I did was stress so...

Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?
Isabel'sGma replied to JimmyGotSLEEVED's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well I have been off here for several weeks. My stress levels have been amped up 100%. I have been in a stall for about three weeks and for the last two weeks I have been dealing with a f/u mammogram with negative results, referral to surgeon, breast ultrasound, then finally last Thursday a breast biopsy under general anaesthesia. Now impatiently waiting for results on Wednesday. Fortunately for me it is the same surgeon. I told him that I had not intendd to get to know him quite this well, he laughed. My weight has not changed except to go up about 5 pounds - However, today I put on a size 22 pair of jeans and a size 22/24 shirt. The clothes I wore into the store were a size 26 jean and a 30/32 shirt. Not sure how it all works, but I am so thankful. For all the prayers out there, I would appreciate them for the next few days. -

October 2014 sleevers check in please!
kenb79 replied to Jen - a work in progress's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hopefully things turn around for you soon. You should talk to your nutritionist about your gain and stall. I was told that little stalls here and there are normal but I wouldn't consider a three week plateau a stall. Talking to your nutritionist may help you discover the reason your not in a calorie deficit. Best wishes, Ken -
Don't worry about slow weeks and stalls early on. Your body is still adjusting. I had my surgery last August and during the first few months had stalls that lasted three weeks. I still dumped 100 pounds in 4 months. Some of us fluctuate between losing nothing and then sudden dropping eight or more pounds in a week. Keep on the plan and you'll do fine. Aside from Protein shakes, I drank, and still drink, sugar-free hot chocolate made with skim milk. I add low fat whipped cream and a pinch of cinnamon. It helps with protein and Water totals, plus you get a huge mental boost from having something that feels so damn decadent. It's my favorite indulgence.

Losing while eating???
magpie26 replied to FatBlocker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a three week stall, and I think an 8 week stall (both fairly short) and now I'm in my worst one I have ever had, those other ones were annoying but this one is what the vets talk about. It totally happens, we do everything right and they happen. Don't worry, your body will get used to this and everything will be fine. -

Good Afternoon everyone. Congrats to those who are still seeing losses whether its .5 pounds or 3 pounds or anything thing else for that matter... I was stalled for about three weeks so I went in for a fill on Tuesday... Boy, what a difference .5 can make... I did discover this morning that if I have a shake too soon after getting up (one hour) that it will come right back up... I only had 2 or 3 tiny sips but ugh... That was not fun... I'm gonna stick to my 2 hour rule.. That means i can enjoy it on my 30 minute drive to work... SO I got on the scale last night and after a full day of food and beverage, it was down to the number that is usually reserved for first thing in the morning! WHoop WHoop Hooray! I'm hoping to see it like that when I am fully clothed and shoed by Monday when I weigh in "officially" for the Easter Challenge... That will mean I am no longer fluctuating into the 190's at any point in any state of dress or undress at any time of the day or night... I hate how that was happening at night... Bah! For those who are stalled, keep your chin up... I know it can be discouraging but it passes and you are back on the road to success eventually... btrieger: You are correct about experiencing things rather than just going on other peoples words... I had to expereince it all myself to understand what it really felt like and to learn how to deal with it.... -
Big hello; This is my first post on this forum after lurking for quite a while. Just wanted to say I have lost 5 pounds in three weeks following plan. Great start for me and I am close to half way there, maybe even want to pursue losing back down to my lowest weight. Although the scale has stalled this week - I feel better, less bloated and have found some encouragement. Being on track is a wonderful feeling! Hugs. I love my sleeve and have no regrets.
