Having My Band Removed On Sunday
Bluedevil11 replied to kazzeeeee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow.. after reading this post, alot of the symptoms were the same ones I had.. the "alllergies" etc.. I would take 2 bites of food and start sneezing with nose running like crazy. My lapband was removed on Mar 15 and I have to say i saw an immediate change. The problem was found with mine after I complained about pain in my esophagus right below my throat and excuse me for tmi maybe but basically I was coughing up mucus in my sleep or waking up to do it.. not a good feeling either way . I had a barium swallow.. went back to dr in 2 days and he said it has to come out. I had never had any fills but the band appeared to be only allowing flow as if it was full.. completely full. I was scheduled for 1st thing in morning at 7:30 and the dr said it would only take about 30 min to remove it... however I was in the OR over 1 hour. When he went to remove it.. the stomach under it was completely inflamed and he had to put a drain in since he was worried about erosion. He saw no infection luckily but put in the drain as a precaution. Even now when I eat a week or so later.. I still feel some discomfort when it hits the "banded" area.. he said it should slowly stretch back to normal and if not within a few weeks to come back in and they would have to check again to maybe remove or stretch the scar tissue around the stomach. Overall .. I do feel better.. the pain of eating is not too bad.. I will not get another lapband as he said he would NOT recommend that as it appears my body rejected it.. (one of the few) I did lose from 340 at the start of the total WLS down to 225 so I am happy with that and I have good exercise habits now and can actually move better with the weight gone.. -
Im unsure what your exact situation is but let me share. I had the same problem. I lost about 20 pounds up front and then it stalled. Until i found out that i dont use the bathrooom nearly enough. So i started to take a stool softener. I went from 251 to 247 during one movement. (sorry for the tmi) So that might be something to think about if you arent regular as well as working out. Im sure it will get better. Keep your head up!

YES! This happened exactly to me. The incision that I had an infection in sealed up and the active infection was gone but there was a big hard knot under it and I thought well I guess my body will just absorb the junk. Then suddenly last Friday I was in the tub and I looked down and it was sort of poofy. I left it alone then I got out of bath and got dressed. Suddenly I remembered it and I was walking into the bathroom to grab a cotton swab to use to poke it with and when I put pressure on it WHAM it nastily exploded up into my eye ( I was sort of bent over looking at it). I know, I know TMI. I washed my eyes out and it continued to ooze a healthy amount for a bit. The hard lump of junk under it is gone and it scabbed over now and is back to healing up.

Back in the hospital.....a-freakin-gain
imawhodat replied to imawhodat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks everyone. Today hasn't been all that great. I was supposed to have a barium swallow study done this morning. I spent the majority of the night in the bathroom dealing with the effects of Milk Of Magnesia....not fun. Anyway, I was incredibly weak and sick this morning. My nurse gave me zofran IV and sent me off for my test. I knew I was in trouble when I was shaking in the wheelchair being wheeled to radiology. I kept feeling like I was going to pass out. So they get me in the Rad. dept, get everything all ready for the test...tell me to come stand on this little platform thing...Still telling them I feel very weak. They hurried up and lowered the thing over my chest and then I started feeling like I couldn't breathe, heart racing, scared to death because I felt like I was going to yak and faint all at the same time. At this point I hadn't even had the lovely stuff to drink. I felt the thing I was standing on start to go back. When the doc heard me he immediately started adjusting the table so that I was laying down..but it freaked me out!!! I just KNEW I was going down. They got in me in a laying position and I started feeling a bit better, though crazy nauseous. They decided to send me back to my room and I don't remember the rest. I woke up back in my bed and feeling extremely drained. I really don't know what happened.....I do know my body was exhausted from the Milk of Mag...literally on the toliet every few minutes for HOURS yesterday...and since I've already shared TMI.....PERIOD FROM HELL. They are going to repeat the test tomorrow. I hope it goes well. Tonight I felt ok enough to get a shower and go for a short walk down the hall and back. I'm ready to go home and passing this test will get me out of here. -
yea i noticed i was not lubercated during sex thought i was going through the change lol. that explains it. well it worked fine today  i know tmi

Hi, food anyone NOT have a pre-op diet? My surgery is 1.18, RNY. pre-op is 1.12, but I have no pre-op diet. I'm ok with that, but I'm also thinking about the TMI stuff. Getting constipated from food, maybe cleansing my system? I stopped coffee and caffeine, but I'm just wondering who didn't have a pre-op diet, and if you did try to do something? I was thinking shakes, high protein and start cutting carbs, only to make it easier on myself? Thoughts? Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

I didnt either for about a week after surgery and then still rare for a bit after that. I think it has to do with liquids and the fact that one of the side effects of pain meds is constipation. If it really worrying you start adding some fiber, that doesn't jell or expand or take a stool softener. TMI but as soon as i started adding the little Benefiber packets I have been moving much more regularly and I feel better too, plus it is flavorless and not grainy so i can just add it to my water and I am set!

Good luck with your surgery! Depending on your insurance, the pre-op visits/post-op visits should be covered. They need to bill with the pre-op visit code - if it's just billed as a regular office visit, you'll get assessed the copays and stuff. If you don't mind my asking, who is your coverage through? My surgery was the 30th. I had to stay overnight an additional night and I feel like crap. The additional day I was there was because I couldn't stop throwing up to save my life (TMI, I know). I've been home a little over 12 hours now and I've slept most of the day. My friend came over and put my AC in my window and moved my TV into my bedroom, so that's nice. The times that I have been up, I've been extremely uncomfortable. I can lay on either side and on my stomach (which really is the only time I'm NOT uncomfortable) and I just managed to keep down my first dosage of the pain medication - I had a really hard time with that in the hospital. They had to give me anti-nausea medication everytime I would attempt to use the pain medication and that didn't even help. I took one of the anti-nausea pills when I got home today and I'm pretty sure it stayed with me for about 4 minutes until I started dry heaving again. My surgeon did a scan & said everything looked normal, but since I had the gastric plication in addition to the banding; the extra nausea was normal. Because they essentially folded my stomach (I like to think it's like a paper football, even thought I know it's not), the throwing up what I thought was blood was apparently normal. I haven't had any dry heaves or anything for like 6 hours now -- I'm trying to drink 3 medicine cups full of Water every hour. We'll see how it goes. Good luck with your surgery! Let me know how the healing process goes for you! -
How do you avoid constipation and impaction (TMI)
Totallytater posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only trouble I've consistently had since surgery is problems going to the bathroom. I don't eat that much anymore so my bowels just don't seem stimulated enough to work well. I go to the bathroom every couple of days but don't produce much. Then every several months, I get severely impacted. It's so bad that I am homebound for a couple of days. The first day, I writhe in pain and pray for death (just kidding). Then I take laxatives and crap my brains out for a whole day and a half or two days. It seems incredible that a human can crap so much. Does anyone have this problem and has anyone found a way to avoid it? -
2bslimkim-- Enjoy your posts. We are similar in size and your surgery is one day before mine I am 3/1 in St. Louis. It is interesting to see how different all the preop instructions are. Mine said I did not have to do liquid before OR a bowel prep. I opted to self impose both as I don't want anything lingering around in there for days.....sorry tmi.....I don't think the broth will hurt you. Keep in touch---cant wait until they give us our adult beverages back----when they do let's have a virtual cocktail!! also the citrate of mag was not bad did it yesterday

so what did you do to break the stall?
Lissa replied to tjharmon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stalled at 3 weeks as well. And stayed there for two weeks of bouncing up and down on the same darn 3 pounds. I added in carbs, eating baked crackers and Peanut Butter. I also upped my Water consumption a bit from 64 oz to 80 oz a day. There was another TMI reason for the upped water consumption, too. After two weeks, I suddenly dropped 7 pounds in two days, so I think that all helped. Mostly, I just made myself not worry about the stall. It doesn't help and anxiety makes me want to eat. -
I haven't written in a while so.....What or who is an experienced Bandster? At nearly 6 months post op apparently, not I even though I have dropped 81lbs. Being an experienced Bandster is not all about weight loss.... This morning on the way to the Office I stopped at Dunkin Donuts for a sausage, egg and cheese wake up wrap and a large decaf coffee. I don't drink with my meal but I wanted to have it for when I got into the office. Well without thinking much about it I proceeded to head to work on the freeway and ate my wrap. Not paying attention I ate it too quickly. Stuck episode on the freeway in traffic is not fun by any means. I ended up pulling over to the side of the road and got out and paced back in forth for about 15 minutes until it passed. With my last fill I am definitely in my sweet spot. I can eat almost anything if I do it correctly. Correctly seems to be a problem still. I am eating the right things for the most part but I am still eating too quickly and not chewing enough. I have spent my entire life eating junk food and binging at times and just shoving it in. I never thought learning to eat properly with the band would be this difficult. I have had probably about 7 or 8 stuck episodes since being banded in April. One episode led to (and sorry for the tmi) vomiting. So a couple of things are going to happen here. I am either going to get this straight and follow proper band rules or I am going to cause a slip. Next week I have another support meeting and I am going to sign up and re-take the hungry head class again. That class focus on binge eating and eating habits. I don't think I need the hungry head class as far as binging but I think being around people and talking about experiences will help me keep focus. My next Doc appointment follow up is 9/25. I am not getting a fill. I am still getting the needed "restriction" from the fill last week. In my opinion and I have said it before the word "restriction" sucks when it comes to band talk/terminology. It's not about restricting at all it's all about appetite suppression and satiety. I got that going on right now, no question about it. Now if I can only learn how to eat properly. I also know my band is tighter in the morning. From now on protein shakes only in the morning even if I am running late. ***

i am four months post and my port hurts when I have been sitting too long, when I have been sleeping on that side, or when I have sex the "old fashioned way" (sorry for the tmi). It just feels sore like it's been stretched or scrunched, either one. Usually I just gently massage the area and then walk a round a bit and it goes right away. Good luck!

Question for Female Bandsters esp w/ PCOS...HELP!
CajunDisney replied to Anyalee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
FWIW... I have PCOS. Periods come whenever they feel like it. Last couple of years, I have been passing lots of tissue (not just clots). (sorry if TMI). Doctor finally did some further tests and discovered that I had hyperplasia. That was after I had been bleeding for 2 months STRAIGHT and getting heavier by the day! Had a D&C done on 12/10/07. At the point where I went in for surgery, I was going through a pad every 2 hours! Talk about thinking you are going to bleed to death!!! Took a week after surgery to stop bleeding. Haven't had a period yet. Not PG either. I am HOPING that if I can get approval for LB, it will help straighten my body out! This is so frustrating. I don't have kids either, but want them so badly. To know that LB has helped you is encouraging for me though! TFS. -
May surgery peeps from lapband to bypass?
EmergingMissP replied to tebowfan's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks for all of your prayers and well wishes. Its been a rough few days pain and all, however I am feeling better today now that I can pass some gas (TMI sorry). I am so glad I did this and I'm sure it will get better. Still having a tough time with liquids but working on it. Keeping You all in my prayers and wishing you the best. -
Today is the first day I got on the scale since my surgery. I only weigh once a week. I learned not to weight every day since I started the dieting and exercise program in May. It seems like most of the gas should be gone from what has been going on I have passed a lot of gas (TMI) but I am just so discouraged. Shouldn't have any water weight left either. Lol. I use the bathroom all the time. I hope you are right. I have a doctor appt next Wednesday. I guess I will stay off the scale until I have to get on the scale then, I sure hope I lose because I will be very depressed if I don't.

Sleeved February 4, 2017 Bypass January 24, 2019 I had the revision due to acid reflux. I have a lot of discomfort in my upper back/shoulder area that I didn’t have after the sleeve. Yesterday I also had extreme constipation and think I may have pushed to hard (sorry TMI but I can’t find help online). Anyhow. I don’t have continual pain in my abdomen, just when I move and no leakage. It’s more the back pain/discomfort that is concerning me. Thinking about it it goes from mid back up to shoulders. I can only sleep lying on my back as I’m scared to lie on my side and end up getting up every 2 hours due to my back. So I guess my questions are: is this discomfort/pain normal? When should I be concerned? No vomiting, fast heart rate, nausea... I'm pretty sure the gas has passed now. Sorry this is all over the place. I hope this makes sense. It’s 136 am 😂

Almost 5 weeks out and feeling constantly nauseous
iliana00000 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So I started on soft foods... and ever since I have been so nauseous like morning sickness lasting all day. TMI after 3 months finally got my period. My body just feels terrible overall feeling weak, so emotional, and tired. I am trying to be active but when I walk and such my heart starts to race like crazy. Idk if it is just me everyone I know seems to be doing fine post-surgery, but I've been struggling bad. I don't even care about losing weight at this point I just want to feel better. Even drinking Water is hard, its like I am regressing rather than progressing. anyone else experience this? -

suesleeved replied to hootney1214's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was 4 weeks yesterday and am on puree until week 5.. but tried some rotisserie chicken, refried Beans, avocado, chicken noodle Soup and a tiny bit of mashed potatoes. Did ok, but chicken made me constipated (TMI sorry) I still drink 3 Protein drinks and add some powder to non fat Greek yogurt .forgot that. Oh and a few homemade smoothies. I'm looking forward to eating cheese sticks again and fish and more chicken. It's crazy to dream about chicken lol going to try an egg soon! -
Lower body lift APPROVED!
damzelindistres5 replied to damzelindistres5's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Yes. I had a few things, documentation from my bariatric surgeon, documentation from my OBGYN (sorry if TMI but my loose skin was causing irritation in my public region), documentation from my primary where I had 2 yeast infections inside my belly button due to the skin fold. I had visits spanning from about 5+ months before I decided to see a plastic surgeon. -
I remember. :smile2: I lurk around now again - generally don't have much interesting to say (unless you count my post in the 20's forum about getting naked with a new partner...LOL...that will probably be more TMI than what you said, Linda). I'm not where I imagined I would be by now, either. Around about the time I STOPPED my very quick downward slope on the weight-loss was because I filed for divorce. The emotional strain was just too much. I eat my emotions. Yep, still do. The times when I've gone overboard with it (eating past the point of fullness because I was trying to drown the feelings), I have PAID the price. Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch...more ouch. Hopefully I remember the pain next time I think THAT was a good idea. Two more months to our 2nd Bandiversary, huh? Well, I'm bound and determined to be well within "normal" range for my height by then according to my BMI. I still want to lose 37 more lbs total, but I have 8 to go to be "normal." I got lazy with my weight loss over the past year. I'd eat well sometimes, others not so much. The band has ALWAYS been a Godsend, however. Whatever the lowest weight is that I get to, I cannot for the life of me gain more than 10 lbs over that. So that has been fantastic and I'm grateful everyday for that. The past couple of months, I started buckling down on my fitness. Not so much my diet. I didn't limit WHAT I ate, but I did my best to make "better" choices. But I didn't guilt myself if I wanted a piece of pie or some chocolate, or whatever. The key is - I've been working out like a maniac for two months. Got down to the lowest I had been (which is recorded on this board in the "list"), and then one lb further than that. And was stuck. So the past several days I've forced myself to low carb in addition to the working out...and I'm down another lb. My goal is to low-carb it for the next two weeks (until the 1st). I'm going on a vacation with the new (very hot!) boyfriend and I wanted to look my best. :smile2: I don't want to worry about carbs on a vacation, but will really do my best to not overdo it with sugar. When I get back, I'll probably get back on low carb for a bit...don't know how long. I've used low carb in the past to blast off the lbs, but I think the body starts to build a tolerance to it and an INtolerance to any kind of carbs, which is not good when you want to go back to eating like a normal person. So I basically plan to only use it for jumpstarts...kind of like getting me off the plateau I was on (it worked like a charm). All-in-all, I'm happy with my band. I'm coming to peace with the fact that I haven't lost ALL that I thought I would have lost by now. But I'm learning the value of hard work and determination when it comes to shaping my body. I bike 75 total miles a week, I run 15.8 total per week, swim about a mile and a half, and do a kickboxing class. I'm stoked about all the fitness things that I was NEVER able to attain when I was 66 lbs heavier than I am now. Sorry for the long post. Figured I'd give an update on one of your member lurkers and share some of the insights/experiences I've had over the past two years. You guys are great - I keep an eye on what you're doing.
