NSV: broke the 40-inch waistband barrier!
ouroborous posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Just a quicky here; while I was in Hawaii, I discovered that I can now comfortably wear a 38 inch waist jeans, shorts, and slacks. The last time I could fit into pants with smaller than a 40 inch waist, I was 18 years old. I'm well on track to "bottoming out" at around a 36 inch waist by my birthday in June, and given how solidly built my legs and butt are (TMI?) that's going to be just about cloth on muscle and bone, very little fat. So that's a tremendously great feeling; to be fitting into clothes that I haven't fit into since I was a teenager! And only 9 months out! Huzzah! -
Surgery was 2 weeks ago, I’m fine, healing great, etc. Ever since I had surgery my bowel movements have all been a maroon color. I told my surgeon he said it must be from liquids/dyes, or something I’m taking in...but it is still happening like daily. It’s kinda freaking me out. Has this happened to anyone else? I’m trying to stay calm and not freak out but it’s kind scary to think it could be blood. Advice please!

to those of you who had gall bladder surgery
carolyn24seven replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My gall bladder recovery was very painful for me also. I was on RX pain meds for two weeks. Then Tylenol for another 2. I had a slow recovery. Much slower than VSG. I think the reason was: my gall bladder was emergency surgery, due to gall stone stuck in the duct and infected. I was on antibiotics for a 21 day treatment. I was constipated from the antibiotics. Eat greek yogurt. Benefiber. Other food I was told to eat: salad with Low fat dressings, bran muffins and stewed prunes. (OK TMI warning here) When the antibiotics stopped, wow, did I find out in a hurry that I did not need the prunes anymore! What a swinging pendulum ride that whole deal was. And painful to boot. Took me about 2 months to get back to "normal". Hang in there, this will pass. pun intended, LOl -

Caution...TMI for some... It was more painful that VSG surgery for me too. I had mine about 10 years ago, and it was a lap surgery...but I do remember walking bent over, and being sore for a couple of weeks after the cholycystectomy. I also had diarrhea when I ate any fats, for quite some time after the choly. Over the years, I have noticed it less often as time went on, unless I really overindulged. Now since I have had my VSG, I have NOT had ANY of the diarrhea after eating fats, like I had before the surgery. In fact I tend to be constipated, maybe because of the other dietary changes (hi Protein, little carbs/veggies/fruits). Once I am past 6 months post-vsg, and am eating more veggies and fruits, maybe my bowel habits will change again. I don't like this constipation one bit. Am getting hemorrhoids. Even with taking miralax and keeping my stools soft. -
Surgery was Monday, 2 days post-op and feeling great!! Passing a lot of gas (sorry TMI) but that is making me feel better and better!! Going home today after lunchtime!!

Not quite sure what Forum this should go under-so i'll try here. First off, i have never worn shapewear (I have been a 6X for years-so wear loose clothes anyways). So I am looking towards the future. Here's my question/dilema. I have to lose about 250# and will need to wait to have any plastic surgery done. So lets suppose I lose most if not all of my weight. That will mean I will have A LOT of excess skin hanging around. My question is-will shapewear really be able to handle that much excess skin? I mean it hardly seems fair that if I lose all this weight that I have to go around with my stomach hanging to my knees for a year or two until I can get plastic surgery. I guess I should be happy just to be able to enjoy the health benefits of weight loss. But seriously, who doesn't want to also look better, and if I work this hard I want to be able to wear something besides a muumuu or stretch pants!! But how will I fit in anything if I still have so much skin hanging down?? Anybody here actually lost a significant amount of weight and had to deal with this problem?

The only stalls I have had have been when I have not gone to the restroom for a couple days. Sorry i know its TMI. But also I have said this numerous times. Even when you dont have a loss on the scale, you probably had a loss with the measuring tape.

I originally started out thinking of bypass or gastric sleeve or lap band,I was open.Once all procedure were explained with pro's & con's my surgeon highly recomended lap band for me.Before the band I had SEVERE IBS(I was living on immodium,it was sooooo bad:crying:)He felt the bypass was not good to mess with my intestines since I was already prone to severe diarrhea(sorry if TMI).The sleeve he'd only performed 12.So I didn't want to be lucky #13.Plus the idea of them removing part of your stomach and throwing it away really creeped me out! I have a co-worker & friend who did bypass with the same surgeon 2 weeks prior to me.She has lost more weight than me and alot quicker. She also has been hospitalized for severe dehydration and has problems with low blood work and severe constipation! So there is 2 sides to every story. And one surgery is not right for everyone. I had a sucessful bander tell me that at least when the bypass people stomach streches back out we(banded) can have our's tightened! Made alot of sense to me!! I want a tool that keeps on working for me,the long term is what I'm concerned about not a quick overnight fix!! So we'll see........no regrets for me so far!!:blushing:

Psh. Formal Introductions

Good luck with your surgery! Depending on your insurance, the pre-op visits/post-op visits should be covered. They need to bill with the pre-op visit code - if it's just billed as a regular office visit, you'll get assessed the copays and stuff. If you don't mind my asking, who is your coverage through? My surgery was the 30th. I had to stay overnight an additional night and I feel like crap. The additional day I was there was because I couldn't stop throwing up to save my life (TMI, I know). I've been home a little over 12 hours now and I've slept most of the day. My friend came over and put my AC in my window and moved my TV into my bedroom, so that's nice. The times that I have been up, I've been extremely uncomfortable. I can lay on either side and on my stomach (which really is the only time I'm NOT uncomfortable) and I just managed to keep down my first dosage of the pain medication - I had a really hard time with that in the hospital. They had to give me anti-nausea medication everytime I would attempt to use the pain medication and that didn't even help. I took one of the anti-nausea pills when I got home today and I'm pretty sure it stayed with me for about 4 minutes until I started dry heaving again. My surgeon did a scan & said everything looked normal, but since I had the gastric plication in addition to the banding; the extra nausea was normal. Because they essentially folded my stomach (I like to think it's like a paper football, even thought I know it's not), the throwing up what I thought was blood was apparently normal. I haven't had any dry heaves or anything for like 6 hours now -- I'm trying to drink 3 medicine cups full of Water every hour. We'll see how it goes. Good luck with your surgery! Let me know how the healing process goes for you! -
OMG, TMI!!! Seriously, gassing gets better the later out you get. For me, I think gassing got better around month 5. However, I would never gas someone while talking to them. Oh the shame!!! Better to wait for a private moment so you don't have to have a black belt in the art of inconspicuous gassing. Lol.

The band dr said losing the weight probably caused it to stop and when she checked me felt that my exam did not indicate i was menopausle ( the ongyn) but next day i literally got my period. Lasted 2 weeks. Now its back 3 weeks later and really heavy. Very unlike the old ones. Sorry for TMI. Just freaking out. Cant leave the house. Crazy. Maybe its just because i didnt have it for so long?

Am I crazy that I hate it when people comment on my weight loss. I absolutely hate it.. First off I'm not one to have any attention ok maybe just not to much attention .on me lol.. I am Having a hard time with how other people see me it's crazy I'm sick of the fuss they are making about my weightloss. I'm not a show and tell puppet. It's becoming annoying crazy as it sounds I'm tired of hearing I can barely recognize you how much did you lose etc... Why so caught up on the number I'm the same person I always was Inside. I never thought I would be called skinny at first I loved it now I hate it. My aunt commenting on how small my clothes are well I'm yes 12 is a lot smaller than a 22/24. Yes my band helped but I'm working it and working out 4-6 days a week. My brother thinks I'm too skinny and is worried really wtf I still feel I need to lose another 50-60 pounds .... The sagging skin and sorry guys for tmi the deflated boobs are hard on my self esteem lately. When I was 22.24 I never said do I look fat now at a size 12 I'm questioning it...it's crazy cause I never saw me as fat now I can't see the slim down version of me. My self image of me is altered. Yes I'm working on that with help. I hate seeing people who I haven't seen in a while at first it was fun and great for the ego n now I hate it . This is a crazy crazy post I get it but today my neighbor made such a fuss over me I wanted to die ... She said her daughter didn't recognize me well guess what I have no idea who ur daughter is now do care. Then I have people who don't notice n I love it cause to me that means you saw me for me not what I looked like if that makes sense. I know I can't be the only one who feels this way... Any pointers on how to cope ?

So today I am 5 weeks out. I have lost 42 lbs. Had a week stall when TOM came to visit but all is well now. Some of the NSV's I have encountered: Going from a size 18 to a size 12 pants and XXL shirts to L. All of my clothes are way too big now except for the ones I held on to and thank goodness I did. Not getting out of breath to do anything.... and I do mean anything. My boyfriend putting his arms around my waist and being able to grab his elbows with his hands...and commenting on it. Ex-boyfriends seeing me and telling me how great I look. I have a ton but I have saved the best for last........ And sex is so worth it now!!!! Ok, ok. I know TMI .... but it is so true.lol I hope everyone else is doing great as well!

Most of us take vit supplements - my surgeon mentioned this during my pre-op visits. He told that I may need it for quite some time. Iron supplements too. Other than that, I think I dont have many problems. I eat only chicken, fish or prawns in the non-veg food. I dont eat red meat. So I have had no digestion problems. But very early into my solids phase, as I did not have much Fiber in food, I had some !!TMI ALERT!! constipation issues. But no problems now.

You know, I was just thinking today that I should go see my PCP and talk about trying Wellbutrin again, for several reasons: I'm peri-menopausal, and while I'm not having wild mood swings or anything, I generally feel irritated a lot of the time, I get mad easier, and I also have absolutely NO sex drive. I enjoy it once we get into it, but have no desire at all to get things started, ever. I had my gyno start me on it a few years ago, partly because I was under a ton of stress at the time and it was starting to affect me, but mostly because I also heard it was great for weight loss (it's also used to help people stop smoking). I was only on it for 3 weeks because after 2 weeks, I started getting really itchy spots all over my ankles, which at first I thought were bug bites.. until one day when I got really hot at the zoo and broke out in hives all over the place. A little online research showed that to be one of the side-effects. Damn! Because I can say that YES, definitely in those three weeks I noticed an increase in drive. Also, hopefully this is not way TMI, but I was able to hit The Big O during regular intercourse, which is very rare these days (God love the 40s, wheee). So yeah, like you I think I may see about trying it again before the weather gets warm, and see if I still have the same reaction (with the hives--I can hope that it still affects me the other way too! )

To Barf, Or Not To Barf?... That Is The Question.
sabrina140 replied to sabrina140's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After posting that I had the same thought as you... walked in to the bathroom and let it out. (Sorry again, tmi)... I must have chewed really good, because it was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be... tummy is happy again. Wheeeew. SLOW DOWN SABRINA (<-- note to self! >_< ) -
Yesterday I leave work a little early and head to Macy's for some retail therapy. I try on a blue suede skirt, size 20, on clearance. Fits awesome! I went from a size 32 being too small to a size 20 in 9 months (two more days will be 9 months). I found a blue blouse to go with it and wore them both today with the white, black and blue duster jacket I have on in my profile pic. Anyone, back to the story about Macy's. They had this awesome black skirt with an overlay in black that looked almost like rubber, in a lacy pattern, and clearance price of $19, down from $99. Zipped up AND down the back. They only had it in a size 18, so I tried it on. It was so tight around the knees, that I had to unzip it a little from the bottom (one reason the zipper went both directions). It fit pretty good, a few more pounds down and I can wear it. So I decide to see what happens when I bend over - how much does it ride up? So I turn away from the three-way mirror, bend over, look back at the mirror and am horrified by what I see. Everything is at least two inches south of where I saw it the last time I looked, and my butt has flown the coop - nowhere to be found!!!! Whiskey! Tango! Foxtrot! The sag has seriously set in! So this depresses me, but I still buy the skirt. Then I text one of the dudes I've been seeing and tell him I'm depressed about the view he has when he... yanno... DUZ THANGS TO ME! He said he wasn't depressed about it at all. Dude is 16 years younger than I am (yes, I'm pulling a cougar on this one), and I figure he just doesn't understand my angst. Then he offers to hang me upside down to... DO THANGS... and that way they will be two inches NORTH of where I saw them last. In the meantime, saving my pennies for plastics. Dang.

Never had one before. Sorry if this is TMI but it won't go away. Any advice/recommended products? I heard that if you ice it, it will shrink, but it didn't work for me. It's hard, painful, and really uncomfortable! I need to poop but I'm afraid to! I don't think I'm going to eat anymore until this goes away and I can poop! This is so embarrassing!

I Have A Couple Stupud Questions???
pink dahlia replied to tammyg1969's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, being stuck is the worst ! it feels like heartburn sorta , in the middle of your chest. nothing will make it go up or down until its ready to, so chew, chew , chew and chew some more, taking small bites. PB=Productive burping, its burping a bit to make some thing move that might just be a little stuck. TMI ALERT- stop reading if you get grossed out easily. last week i had mexican food, just a little of the inside of a quesadia, 3 chips chewed well, and 3 sips of a margarita ( forgot that i wsnt supposed to use a straw -ever !) well......... after 2 trips to the bathroom wherei pb'd up the dinner, i proceded to completely throw up and slime my whole dinner out. not pretty................ i had the leftovers the next day with no probs, so im guessing it was the alcohol in the margarita, or the straw. either way i dont want to do that again ! so be advised, watch what you eat and drink ! -
Warning TMI alert! OMG! I'm not sure if its because of the weight loss but tonight for the first time in over 2 years my husband came onto me! He initiated sex all on his own and he had no trouble getting "prepared". I'm literally in tears over the shock and excitement. He never initiates sex nor does he show any desire to be with me. Maybe it was the weight loss or maybe the new dress but he NOTICED me and actually liked it. I can't believe it. I'm still in shock. We had hot sweaty sex before I almost had a heart attack. Lmbo. I didn't want to freak him out and start crying.

I was adding miralax, Metamucil and benefiber to my Protein smoothies and still had to take MOM every other day just so I could go every 3 days or so. And when I did go, it was rock hard and I would even bleed trying to get it out (sorry TMI). Then I started adding INSOLUBLE Fiber to my smoothies (benefiber and Metamucil are soluble fiber products) and I was able to stop everything else. I use a mixture of ground flax seed and apple fiber. Now my stools are soft but formed and I go regularly every day. I also mix Kashi Go Lean Cereal in my Greek yogurt (it has 13g protein/10g insoluble fiber per serving)

this is dumb but my biggest question is...
Dimka replied to Katie Loesch-Meyer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am only 17 days out but I can tell you that I am staying thirsty all day, I am sipping Water the whole time but my mouth is dry and I never feel that I had enough, I am actually sure that am not having enough because of my urine color (sorry for the TMI). my problem is the low intake of water in general and not only with food, I took one sip with food one time (only because I forgot) and it was so painful so am never doing it again for another 2 months until I heal completely. -

Picture = TMI Try some egg drop Soup. It's really just broth with an egg blended in and is very satisfying.
