I am totally insane. ashamed to even post here, now
CavyGuy replied to GhostDog's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey GhostDog, You have enough courage to (1) look at yourself, and (2) admit what it is you see. Most people can never own their own BS. You have and that's true courage. Thanks for showing us some real courage. Best to you. -
Warning: I'm hungry and whining

Day 8 post op here, I'm also on a liquid diet. It totally sucks! I'm fed up with my Protein and I can taste my medication just thinking about it. Today, I served my husbands dinner and I took a small piece of meat from his plate. Sucked on it, chewed it a couple of times and spit it out. I realized it wasn't all that. It's definitely all In the head. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Hi Roxine thank you for sharing your journey. Glad to hear you are well on your way to recovery & a better & healthier lifestyle. I had revision bypass on March 9th. The surgery went flawless however my stomach is super swollen due to what I'm hoping is from the gas. It's a bit uncomfortable to say the least. I'm hoping the swollen goes down before I go back to work on the 19th. I fly back home from TijuanaX tomorrow where I will continue to recoup. I'm still on clear liquid diet for the next 2 weeks. I Just ordered me LonoLife Grass Fed Beef & Chicken broth from Amazon. It has 10g of protein & comes in little packets, this will surely help me get my protein in.

Im also going through HF. I have dr. GANAW. how was the consult with Dr. Carlin? Mine is 8/31. Im excited bet nervous. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App It was great! I really liked him. Very easy to talk to. The 31st was my original appointment with Dr. Carlin but there was a cancellation and since I was done with the pre req stuff they asked if I wanted it. My friend and coworker had Dr. Genaw years ago. She said he was awesome! Funny and so down to earth. Did you write your letter of intent? How about your food journal? I have an appointment with the GI Dr. on the 30th. I hope I can get the EGD done soon. I feel like that's what's slowing me down. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Glad to hear About Dr. Ganaw. Thanks for that info. I have been tracking, somewhat. I was just on vacation, and did not track. Will that be a problem? Doing the letter of intent today. This is just basically why you wa t the surgery correct? I'll post more after the consult. I w I uld love to hear more about your journey. Lets chat more ok? Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App For the food journal, i think it will be ok? I was asked about how often I exercise, how much Protein I have in a day, calories, and Water. Have your journal ready just in case. My letter wasn't that long. Only a page. I gave reasons why I wanted the surgery, that I understand the risks, who my support system was, how I plan on using the tool to achieve my goals, etc. Today I had my appointment with the GI doctor. My Upper GI is scheduled for 9/23. More waiting. Yay! Lol. Good luck tomorrow! I look forward to hearing about it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Saturn, thanks for the info. I called, about the letter. I did not have anything in my binder on it, but all is good. Im nervous, probaly bc I did not keep perfect food journals. Ill let u know how it goes tomorrow. My appt. Is 9:50. Wish me luck???? Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App -

no, no challenges at all. and i’m not trying to be flippant, but, getting to the goal itself was the reward! it’s the thing i have wanted my whole life and it’s here and i can’t believe it. every time i go up three flights of stairs and don’t even breathe hard, that’s my reward. every time i sit on the floor and play with my niece, it’s a reward. every sports game i take my nephew to, which i couldn’t before bc i couldn’t fit in the seats, it’s a reward. every day is a reward in a hundred different ways. -
No pounds lost in two weeks
ronjsteele1 replied to over65's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You need to increase your calories a little bit and add some carbs. Stalls also happen bc of it enough calories or carbs. I’ve avoided most of the major stalls by constantly varying these two things. I’ll swing high and low in cals and carbs in any given week. From 800-1200 cals and from 50-120gms of carbs. The trick is to keep your body guessing. -
GERD....it is just regular heartburn?
gina171 replied to gina171's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
VSGAnn....thank you for this! I have read lots of your posts as I try to decide between RNY and sleeve.....I worry that there's not enough data on sleeve and that there is the opportunity to cheat the sleeve AND THEN I read your posts and I realize that if someone is committed and responsible like you, it could be the perfect tool. Your success and very committed attitude gives me hope. My BMI is 49 and I am 48 years old, so some doctors are suggesting RNY bc of those factors but again....I think of how well you did and I wonder if the sleeve might be enough of a tool for me, without the fear of nutritional deficiencies and rerouting my insides... Thank you for all your insight on these forums. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Final Answer On Water?
SoonToBeThinKAT replied to earth2terra's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told by my NUT that it can push the food you have eaten down so it allows you to eat more bc you don't feel the fullness like you would just by eating. But I have heard a few different reasons. -
There's no limit on when you can have the PS though. If you cant afford the time or money right now, you can always do it in a few years time. My boobs are a disaster, they're really bad and I really think for my own comfort and running performance (I'm so addicted to running now) I need a breast reduction and lift. But it wont be happening whilst I'm a lowly university student and whilst we need to buy a bigger house. I figure five years time, I'll be out working, I can then afford the operation. I dont have hanging skin though, as I was lucky enough to nip my weight problem in the bud before it got that serious. So I cant really imagine how hard it will have to be to wait for that. But it will happen for you one day if not immediately. Till then, I"m wonderfully fit, active and so much slimmer than I was. I look great dressed, I do not care that I look like an almost 40 year old women who has birthed and fed three children when I'm naked because that's what I am! Try to enjoy your newfound healthiness - your mental image of yourself and your self esteem is more important than the reality of the shape your skin is in. If its hidden pretty much by clothing and not causing you health problems, be glad of that and just save towards your goal of a fine tuning later on.

How to find a good surgeon - this is delaying my entire process :(
sillykitty replied to Assya's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I started by researching VSG on RealSelf. The Dr. I used caught my eye because he was a frequent contributor and answered a lot of questions, and was super local. I figured only passionate surgeons would spend their time answering questions for free. And to me, I figured that was a good sign. He also had good reviews on RealSelf. I next looked up the status of his license, and it came up all clean, no issues at all. I looked at his CV. He went to excellent schools, for his BS and his MD. He then did a Fellowship in Bariatric surgery. That was really important to me, as he took the time to educate himself in this specialty. He is a member of ASMBS. Finally, he is on staff with some of the best local hospitals. Prestigious hospitals do not allow bad Dr.'s on their staff. He also is the Medical Director of Bariatric surgery for the hospital I had my surgery, which is a Center of Excellence. So I took all those pieces together, and I concluded that a surgeon with a poor record would have a red flag, somewhere. Since I found no red flags, he was local, he was in network, that this was the best surgeon for me. I would agree with this, if I were having a more complex surgery. Or if my treatment was for something chronic or severe. But honestly, VSG is in the scope of things, a simple and routine surgery. There really isn't a lot of variable my surgeon would have to know me personally to decide. I get what you are saying though. I'm going to have plastics later this year (hopefully!). For that surgeon, it will important that they understands exactly what I want. It will be important that we are able to communicate clearly to one another, and that I am definitely not a statistic. But plastics has so many variables, where bariatric surgery has few in comparison. I'm fine with my surgeons standard VSG operation, but I don't want a standard boob job! -
How Long After Sleeve Surgery Did You Complete Plastic Surgery?

I am planing a breast aug, tummy tuck, and some others. The tummy tuck I have to wait until 2014 bc my insurance will cover it The boobs will be done in may or June 2013 Hello happy days ahead I am 28 and if needed I would do other lifts. If I needed a arm or thigh lift I would do this in Mexico but as far as the boobs I am seeing dr Robert Rey the only man I would ever trust with my boobies. Breast is 10k Tummy 10k Thigh and arm in Mexico is 6k -
I love love love their salad with grilled veggies on top. Sometimes I add cheese (I'm a vegetarian), but I think you can get it with grilled chicken. I have come to think of pasta as tasteless, a waste of space (I'm post-op), yucky/gummy, and low bang for the buck given its lack of nutritional value. I feel so good putting a healthful tasty salad in my body instead. And everyone at the table will probably look at your salad longingly, wishing they had ordered it. You will feel great after eating it, too! I would pass on the bread or maybe have half a piece with the dipping oil bc that's the best part (since you are pre-op--post-op, you won't want it). You can get a side of sautéed spinach with garlic (not sure if it's on the menu, but they will do it), which is sooo good and good for you. Most of all, I hope you enjoy your time with your loved ones!

miss and sand and band gave some great advice...i suggest you listen to do it.. you dont need to spend one cent to exercise..........WALK walk far, go up and down inclines...trust me, its a work out and by not seeing your dr, you know you are only hurting/hindering yourself...the dr knows what you look like and weighed, so they know you have a weight problem....get rid of the woe is me and i am embarrassed bs......go see the dr, let them make sure your band is working as it should and start back eating your allotted amounts, better option foods (you know what you eat and what makes us gain weight, we all do)..you say you are stuck...i dont believe that.....you have a great tool to help you eat less.....they gave you how to use it guidance...i bet if you start doing what you were, i will happen again..to lose weight, you must eat less calories than you burn off...only you know if you do that or not...and i reckon you do because of the 60+ pounds you loss already......GREAT job see, you CAN do this

thanks for the tips, seems everyday that goes by i get more and more fed up with my drinking. going to try and go this weekend without drinking. as far as your comment about your friend she must have been a bybass because our pyloric valve doesnt allow alcohol to pass any sooner.

My surgery date was 1/29/14. My surgery was cancelled due to the weather. This is the second time. The first time my surgeon could not continue with my surgery bc he found a tumor on my liver. So I had to go through a lot if test. It is benign. So now I am playing the waiting game. My surgeon office is still closed and I still have to drink this awful protein shake no food just 3 shakes and plain water. Ugh! Oh well things happen. Can't get upset about The Lord's work. I am just venting and anxious.

How to check on Doctors in Mexico?
vixie replied to tribon's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
No one is saying that he's a bad person or has a bad bedside manner. He may be a carrying and attentive doctor, that doesnt mean that he doesnt have a higher than average rate of infection. I dont understand why you think all these people would come onto this board to lye about him. They've already given you examples of their research and still you cant even accept the possibility that what they say could have even a kernel of truth. Even bad doctors have some success stories. Why do you think that just because you didn't have complications, that no one else could have experienced any? Yes, there may be other people who share your name on google. However, you're not going to find another person who shares your name, occupation, living location and associates...get a grip its all there in black and white. The reason I said that 100% weight loss in all his patients is BS is because there isnt a doctor on the planet with a 100% success rate - bands are defective, people have bad reactions to them, people "eat through their bands," and so on., So NO, I don't believe that this doctor has not had any of those issues with his patients...that's ridiculous. Frankly, I think its offensive that you are trying to silence people who are trying to educate the rest of us. Especially when you have nothing to support your claim that he doesnt have a high rate of infection. -
POLL - Whats your sweet spot in 10cc band?
TulipStar replied to bunnykin4u's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
7 months out and I finally voted for 7.5 cc's. I have really good restriction right now although I was too tight at first. I think this is perfect bc I don't get hungry and a very small amount fills me up. -

What is everyone's exercise routine? New and long timers
Itstime replied to kermit_ojp's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Go on Youtube and put in zumba. It looks like so much fun but good cardio. I plan to take one at the back of the class bc I know I won't be able to finish the whole thing at first. One class does it with weights for some sculpting. Can't wait! -
So I had my revision on April 29, 4 1/2 hour surgery, my stomach had prolapsed and was adhered to my liver. Passed out in the hospital, couldn't get a BP for about 20 min, and ended up staying 3 nights. No pain since drain was removed ( the drain somehow slipped into my pelvic area causing A LOT of pain). Anyhow, I am just weak weak weak! Walk up the stairs sit for 20 min, have to sit to make jello. I can drink anything at least 4 oz at a time. Getting about 60 gm of protein. Prob 48 oz water/liquids. Still on full liquids. My BP is still low this morning it was 92/56. BS was 124. No fever, very little pain, largest incision does look a little angry. Down 14 lbs including pre-op. Do I sound normal? I'm just soooo weak! Thanks Laurie

You look amazing! I guess my biggest fear with VSG is in not gonna lose the amount of weight I need to ie 100+ lbs. how much was ur starting weight? I'm 5'6 and they weighed me at 270, but my weight fluctuates a couple of pounds a lot. I'm now starting the no bread, pasta, sweets. And starches diet. I ate a cliff bar that had dark choc chips and a touch of rice and wheat flour. It was 8g of protein and low glycemic and 190 calories for breakfast. I hope that's not too bad, bc I have to bring my food journal to each visit and when I see my dietician ????????

First fill was today - it SUCKED - bad!
U_go_gurl68 replied to gigem's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
thanks for that comment. I found it a little offensive myself, but was trying to be understanding, so i didn't comment in reference to that remark. There are many more good nurses than bad, in my opinion anyway. I always try to do my very best with my patients and their families, which is really important bc i care for pediatric pts. But most good nurses would have never stuck a patient that many times unsuccessfully and as a patient, i would have stuck up for myself long before being stuck that many times. -
How many calories a day at 3 months?
CrissyRing77 replied to CrissyRing77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was released to all food at 8 weeks and have been eating all meats even had steak on that first day! The only thing that gives me issues is shredded beef from a Mexican restaurant no matter how long I chewed it wouldn't digest!! . I may try to kick the cheese :/ tho it's gonna be hard! I haven't started exercising at the gym yet bc I had/have an enlarged spleen so they won't release me yet. But I'm active with two small boys and walk when i can. I seem to be right in the middle or only slightly lower than most.... -
You are smokin' hot. Good for you Seriously That's crazy , (good kind) Well, I just began mine and actually, I've been swimming for the last few weeks cause I'm burned out on the dang stationary- elliptical ( the standing up kind is too hard for now -my weight makes it hard on my knees-for now) And anyways, I love swimming. I swim for an hour, sometimes 45 minutes, but I swim laps andI want you to know, I've been between 304-306 (up and downbetween these numbers for 2 weeks) I thought to myself. Maybe I am not bruning enough calories with this swimming, which saddens me bc there is not a lot of exercize I really "love" So may it'sjust the stall everyone's chirping about Did you stall at 3 weeks? and if so, how long was your stall. Sorry for SO many questions, but I cann't keep at this number I am super proud of your weight loss. That's amazing and.. I hate you! Lol

Ready2LoseIt213 replied to tootie09's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm 12 days Post op and I have the same feeling.. I don't really have that "full" feeling. But I think it's just bc I'm not "eating" anything. Although,The shakes sometimes take me a couple hours to finish..
