just wanted to let you all know of my experience. my BMI is between 35 and 40, and my program was concerned that I may not be approved by Blue Cross Blue Shield with just hypertension. Therefore part of my program included being evaluated for other conditions. It turned out that I have both fatty liver and severe sleep apnea. while I am not thrilled to know that my obesity has led to all of these conditions, it does help my cause for getting surgery approved. I completed my program last week and my packet was submitted to Blue Cross Blue Shield late last week. I called customer service at Blue Cross Blue Shield a couple of times just to check and I found out early this week that they had approved my surgery within three hours of submission of my packet! I found out before the bariatric surgery office could let me know. good luck to you all.

Hello! Just Bc I'm new at all of this, can I ask any diagnosis' you had that may have held it off? -
How long after VSG were you able to bend over and pick something off the floor without pain? I have a special needs dog and debating sending her to the dog sitter. I don't want to send her bc then I will be worried about her & its an extra expense. But, I also don't want to add the burden on my caregiver. Thanks!

Getting sleeved with a baby
teacupnosaucer replied to nennas_mommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I breastfed one child until two years old (and I only weaned because I was forced to due to medical reasons) and the other was using formula by two months old... So I've been in both positions. I don't think it's a matter of "just wean LOL" because I know how special breastfeeding can be, but I also don't think it's a matter of "breastfeeding should take priority over everything ever." Some mothers prioritize breastfeeding in their lives and others do not. There's nothing wrong with either mom or either choice as long as baby is fed and mom feels comfortable with her decision. I definitely think that if you're going to regret stopping nursing early, or if stopping nursing is going to cause hardship in your home, then delay the surgery until you ARE comfortable weaning, whenever that may be. Breastfeeding aside, though, I would STILL recommend postponing the surgery for any mom of a baby under one. I just think trying to care for an infant while recovering from a major surgery such as this one sounds like gruelling punishment for everyone involved. For those pre-ops saying "moms care for babies after c-sections though" I'd like to note that there are many c-section veterans who went into bariatric surgery thinking it would be the same or no worse than their c-section and discovered the opposite. Not saying caring for a newborn after a c-section is any easy feat (C-section moms are warriors!) but this surgery knocks you out HARD... Even if you don't have any complications, you're barely getting any calories for energy, you're on some heavy duty painkillers, and you have to put a lot of mental effort and time into making sure you're eating and drinking enough. I just can't imagine doing that when you're also caring for a baby around the clock. You're practically a newborn yourself sipping soup every two hours and struggling to poop LOL. So yeah... unless you've got a seriously urgent or compelling reason to have this surgery right away, (your insurance is running out, if you reject this date you won't get another one for five years, etc...) I'd wait until baby is a little older. But at the very least, be realistic and know that breastfeeding likely isn't going to happen post-op and that you're going to need way more support for yourself and that baby than you probably realize now. Your surgeon should know you're breastfeeding, as well. That's important medical info! -
I'm curious if anyone is planning to use Gatorade G2 during post-op liquids. I see a lot of people on YouTube including it in liquid grocery hauls, but the stats on the kind I bought show too much sugar for my guidelines: 12 grams of carb, all sugar. 5 is my max. I got a little nervous bc my nutritionist said I could drink it and when I asked what about the sugar, she said there's no sugar in it. Is there a different type I should be looking for? My plan is to not drink it but use Vitaminwater Zero instead when I want some non-plain-water flavor.

Another Patient Death at A Lighter Me (ALM) with Dr. Jose Luis Curiel Marchena
HeatherS. replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
The only flip flopping and bs has been from Sandy. We're just trying to get her to answer the question, and instead we get sock puppets and word salad but no answer. -
The thing is I don't need to lose weight for my insurance to do the surgery. And I feel like then I'm just eating whatever bc I won't be able to have it after the surgery.

What is most important to weight loss?
hmills653 replied to Walter.Sobchak's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I was told to really watch the carbs. Cut out sugary soda and juices, eat fruits instead bc the fiber helps them to stabilize blood sugars and fill you up. I know I'm ready for surgery after 15 years of back and forth with my weight, I'm ready to try this tool. Also walking and weight training help, I read that weights will actually continue to burn calories for hours after the work out. -
may I ask how did you know it stretched? I only ask bc I've always felt (all along) that I'm able to eat too much of anything @ one sitting... good luck to you!

I started in October and surgery date May 31. I look at it like yes is something I want done and over with but a few months more is small in comparison to a lifetime of change. I would just keep in touch with those girls in the office bc they probably have a stack of people's files and if you call them they may have to pull it up from the bottom to get to it which then moves things along faster. Crossing my fingers for you.

You may not realize you have comorbidity. Do you have your bp checked regularly? I had hypertension and didn't realize it bc I saw my dr once a year. After going more frequently a few years ago it was discovered. Have them do blood work to check your hemoglobin A1C if you haven't had this done. It was show your average range of blood sugars to make sure you don't have diabetes or pre-diabetic. Also the big one a sleep study I never would've thought I had sleep apnea but if you're tired during the day or feel like you don't sleep well this could be the cause. Any knee or back pain, an xray can show off there's arthritis or a herniated or wearing disc in your back. Sometimes you may have them and not even realize it. Worth looking into with your pcp.

The hospital I'm going through requires the medically supervised weight loss classes through their facility. I had already done a few months with my pcp but that didn't count. They went with my starting weight from first class and then at my 3 mos visit with the surgeon. I did 6 mos of classes prior to insurance submittal. I had to have a sleep study which I found out I do have sleep apnea, so I am using a bipap at night for that. I had to get approval from my cardiologist because I've had a blood clot in the past, he did a stress echo and all was good. I had the psych evaluation. An EGD. I think that's all. I got approved two weeks after submitting in March and I'm scheduled for May 31. I'm still gong to the supervised weight loss classes bc I want this to be a habit to continue after surgery. They have a weight loss support group every month after the class as well. There is no charge for these classes if you are having our have had surgery. They are so helpful amd informative. I wish you good luck. I just had a steroid injection in my knee for arthritis and am praying that after I lose the weight this will be a thing of the past as well.

Need To Lose 50Lbs Too Have Surgery
wynellgray replied to HypothyroidFighter's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On March 15th, I was in exactly the same position as you!! As a matter of fsct, I was supposed to get my surgery date that day a couldn't get scheduled bc I hadn't lost any weight [emoji26] [emoji26]. My Surgeon told me to lose "some" weight and he'll see me in a month. He even told me that because of my current weight, he was recommending me for the sleeve. That was my wake up call! The next day I started on a high protein /low-to no carb restructure (my mind and body doesn't respond well to the word diet). By my next appointment, I was down 16lbs! I was shooting for 30, but was happy & most importantly, my doctor was elated! I got my surgery date of May 18th! My doctor mentioned that being of a larger size is more riskier for fatty tissues obstructing the RNY so I would also like to lose sugnificantly more weight. Right now I'm doing a high protein shake for both breakfast and lunch and a dinner of protein (meat/fish) and veggies for dinner. If hungry, I snack on SF jello/Popsicles and a few almonds. My point is, you can definitely lose the weight! Find a program that works for you and try like hell to stick to it! If you don't hit the 50, you doctor may be happy to see "some" weight loss. Good luck on your journey! Sent from my SM-N910T using BariatricPal mobile app -
So tomorrow I go in for the d switch! Super nervous but really excited to see where life takes me now! I did my magnesium citrate tonight which by the way was completely awful!! I've had nothing but water and protein water for 3 days I'm pretty cleared out I think lol so now I have an upset stomach but don't know if it's bc I'm nervous or the drink !

Another thought is that pre-sleeve I was eating nutrient deficient foods. Most of what I ate was probably pretty bad for me. Now I eat dense proteins and few carbs. What carbs I do get are from veggies. My body is fed better than it ever has been. I was not told to take a calcium supplement either but it just made sense. Take care

No they cut the same amount out as they would will the regular gastric sleeve procedure. I just think he calls it a mini sleeve Bc it's minimally invasive

Why Did You Gain Weight?
Middus replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Portion sizes. Was a heavy baby and was fed accordingly. No matter what was on my plate, it had to be finished. Lost some weight in college because I fasted for long periods regularly, then started eating huge amounts again in my last years of college. Didn't gain anymore weight and stayed at 345 for 13 years till numerous sports related injuries made me yoyo between 345 and 355.. hit 357 after my hypertension medication was making me retain water. -
I changed my food Its my 7th day post op and im happy
Kiwi_N_Rio replied to hamoudi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am still pre op, but I know I have to do liquids for 2 weeks post op. I thought I read somewhere to be careful with breads bc they can get stuck or swell...it was something unpleasant. Just be careful with your new stomach. -
Has Anyone Kept Their Surgery A Secret?
GetSkinny replied to Dtrain84's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I just had my sleeve on April 10th, I didn't tell my husband until I got all my clearances bc I did not want him trying to talk me out of it. It was 2weeks prior to surgery when I told him and said, I'm just letting you know I'm having bariatric surgery on the 10th, he was surprisingly fine with it, just asked about complications and recovery time. Tell him, you won't know his reaction until you tell him. -
Trying to decide if I pay 19k to have band revision surgery in Toronto or make the trip to Mexico but travelling alone makes me nervous and I don't know if I have anyone I can take with me as my hubby needs to stay home and look after kids. I had had my band surgery I Toronto 8 years ago and that was just as long of a flight. Is anyone from BC travelling to Mexico for sleeve surgery? I'm looking for someone to travel with or to talk to someone who has travelled alone.

I am a candy junkie. Every and all. I am almost a month post op. I have a little craving this week with all the Easter candy around. I felt the urge and didn't slip bc I know I can't be trusted. I know this is going to be a life long battle. My surgeon said it's like quitting smoking. The addiction is real and people like me use it for a coping mechanism. But I have to say I have noticed from my preop diet to now, my craving isn't as strong as it use to be. My fingers are crossed for all of us sugar junkies.
