I am very excited and just a little nervous. And yes, I have to do a 10-day liquid diet--ugh. Although I know it will be hard, I still want to do it. I've been trying to prepare in advance by drinking some protein shakes, not drinking with my meals (which has been the hardest for me), and starting my vitamins. What about you? Pre op diet?

I'm trying to figure that out too, IndioGirl. I had 74 lbs to lose, have lost 45 and have 29 to go. GREAT JOB with your weight loss! Only 2 fills too--wow! I think I just had my 6th fill? Or maybe 7...I've had good restriction since my 3rd fill, but it loosens up as I lose weight. I've been getting the 0.2cc fills for months now! But I can't complain. This week I got size 10 jeans and I'm so stoked about it, I can't even tell you. But I also think that it will take me at least another year to lose these last 29 lbs, especially since I'm starting grad school next month. I'm trying to be cool about it...it's not a race, right? My surgeon is pleased with the rate of my weight loss, so I'm pretty cool with it now. Anyway, I don't know where I belong either...this group or the 50-100lb group. Hmmm....

recovering diet coke addict...
LowPSI replied to jen1014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On a hot day (I work outdoors) I can (could!) drink upward of 2 gallons of Diet Coke per day...and have for years. I started each day at 7-11 and filled two 52 oz Extreme Gulps and would refill them. In addition, I would drink a 2 liter at home. I "realized" I was in trouble when I found out that bubbles and caffeine were on the no-fly list. I took the opportunity of having a colonoscopy 3 weeks ago to break the caffeine habit and am working on breaking the bubbles habit. I have always told people that I was allergic to Water, but I am much more allergic to being fat, so I'll figure it out in time for my 11/10 banding. -
I have also become a huge fan of the garden burgers and all of those things. I had are hard time digesting chicken breast and I decided to try those. They come in avariety of flavors as well as forms such as chicken patties, nuggets, hot dogs, and all of that. They usually are from 10-15g of protein per serving and are easy to digest.

spiralling downward... please read
Roo101769 replied to jennynoblemiller's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 13 days out that does seem like a bit too much to consume. I was only on purees or maybe scrambled egg at that point. I don't think your stomach has healed nearly enough to start digesting even semi solid foods. But....if you did not feel physically sick you may have gotten away with it. ( this time) Don't tempt fate and do it again though would be my advice. You are seriously risking your health, not just if you lose weight or not. That all being said the up side of it is you seem to have at least some mental control going on. Do not let anyone try to fool you or tell you otherwise...This is a HUGE mental battle, not just a physical adjustment. The fact that you gave away the truffles, brought a shake, had guilt...All good signs you are at least trying to think before you act. I had a hotel birthday party for my daughter for her 5th birthday because I was only 10 days post op myself. I took my shake, some applesauce, refried Beans and the like with me. It gave me variety and something to eat without worrying about having to chose something. You aren't ready for regular diet choices, so don't put yourself in a situation you have to make any. Make sure you have some variety of items you CAN consume now readily available. This will save you a WORLD of guilt and issues down the road, trust me. It only gets harder as you progress to solid foods. Just because we "can" eat something certainly does not mean we ever should. food is not our enemy. Going in with that approach will set you up for failure. But you have to realize food is no longer your comfort, your friend, your lover, your reason for being. Food is to live. Yes you can enjoy food again, but make every effort to enjoy food that is appropriate for your health and the stage of the planyou are on. One more thing....Has your family been supporting you? Given the champagne and truffels and the rich dinner I get a feeling that, just perhaps, they all need schooled in the reality of VSG and life post op. I don't want to assume anything, but it appears there wasn't much thought put into where you are right now by whoever set the whole thing up. Your life does go on, you will always be you. But they need to realize adjustments have to be made so you can be the BEST you that you can be!!! Anyway, it is in your past now. You cannot change what has happened. All you can do is focus on what is ahead of you and move forward. Hopefully your surgeon or NUT can help you work towards healthier choices for your future. -
I was way too sore to walk more then 10 minutes at a time and slowly until about 9 days post op but I was up and about often throughout the days - very important for lots of reasons but most important for circulation. I am now 19 days post op and am walking 30 minutes twice per day plus a 20 minute bike ride.

hi!! i am doing really well. My biggest struggle is getting enough protein and water everyday. I'm also having a really hard time remembering to take my vitamins everyday. Do you guys ever stand up too quickly and black out? That's been happening to me lately! I am 10 days shy of 4 months out from surgery and have lost a total of 105 lbs. (I lost 40 lbs in preparation for surgery). I am hoping to lose 30-40 more lbs. I am hoping I can do it but a little in disbelief that it could be possible. Then again if you had asked me 4 months ago if I thought I would be down 100 lbs I would of said heck no!

I was sleeved 9/16/14 - initial dr visit was 8/28/14 and weight was 223. Surgery date was 9/16/14 and weight was 221. So didn't lose too much post op. today 10/9/14 and I'm at 206.6. Am I on schedule ? Seems others are half MORE by now than me. I'm not able to reach any of my goals. Also having problem with ideas for puréed stage. I need to get the protein in as well as the water. So hard to do both. Am I alone in this state ?? :-/

I have just recently joined the board and have been devouring all the info shared here. I am cosidering taking the plunge and having a band put on. My Neurologist has been suggesting it for a while, and this past Thursday she really PUSHED for it. First, I'm worried by insurance (BCBS of TX) won't cover it. But I have loads of comorbidities that really support this as being necessary for me and not "cosmetic". I have Multiple Sclerosis, sleep Apnea, fatty liver disease, and borderline Type 2 diabetes. I am 39 and mother to a 10 year old son (who I'd like to be more active with). I'm presently checking into two doctors on my insurance plan right now. Dr. Robert Snow, and Dr. Veninga. Does anyone have any experience with these gentlemen? Any feedback good or bad is welcomed. And if responses like this are not allowed on the list, then please feel free to email me personally. Thanks so much! Hoping to be a "Bandster" soon! Stacey Fortenberry 215/215/?? and a 5'1" shorty ksfortenberry@verizon.net

5 month post op diet
acbayliss replied to AC274132's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good morning! My surgery date was 1-12-2015. I eat around 550-750 calories a day. I make a point to try and eat every 3 hours. My pouch is picky, so there are a few staples that I have. I usually make a batch of chili or buffalo chicken in the crock pot. Then I portion it into 1.5 oz containers and freeze it. The buffalo chicken I usually it with a small salad. I also eat the Morningstar farms spicy bean burgers. I can't say that I love them, but I can tolerate it. I can't eat a full bean burger. I can do about 3/4. Sadly, I am still supplementing most of my Protein with shakes. Here's a sample menu of what my day looks like: 7 am: lite and fit vanilla yogurt flavored with sugar free raspberry syrup 10 am: 100 calorie bag of roasted edamane (from sprouts) 12:30 buffalo chicken with salad 1:30 1/2 bottle of protein h2o Water 3:00 premier Protein shake 5:30 veggie burger patty with slice of cheese on it 8:00 100 calorie popcorn (bad habit I need to stop) or 1/2 peeled apple I have asked my nutritionist about how many calories I should be consuming and she tells me not to worry about that. She wants me to focus on getting 60-70 grams of protein daily. I hope I was able to help you. Good luck on your journey! -
Honey, we lose as fast as we're gonna lose. ((hugs)) But let's do the math. You've lost 40lbs in about 10 weeks. That is 4lbs per week which is WELL above the average of 3lbs/week. Congrats! You're a quick loser!!! Now stop comparing yourself to others! Cuz you're doing great Mamacita!!

You will loose. I'm 12 weeks post op today and I've lost 43 lbs. I want to loose 27 more, unless I think that's too much. Right now all my skin is shrinking with my body, no hanging skin at my neck and people tell me I look 10 years younger. I don't want to loose so much that I get that "too skinny, sickly" look. So I'm going to keep loosing until my body says no more.......or I say enough!

Constant abdomnial pain with band

I really can't wait to have mine out. Now to find the right surgeon. 10 years was too long. -
i had gastric bypass a little over 10 years ago and the weight is back and then some. i'm looking for other options, as it's unlikely that my bypass would be revised (it's not broken, just stretched). i've seen lap band commercials, and since i believe everything i see on tv, i figured it must be worth a look  has anybody around here had lap band as a second weight loss surgery? to which section of the forum should i venture for this info? thanks! ffff

1 month post op and overeating freaks me out!
lifelongSolution replied to Sheilawillwin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am just trying to stick to 5 oz of the Protein 4 times a day and plenty of fluids in between along with Jello and sugar free pudding in between those. I get hungry in between but when I drink a little the hunger subsides for a little bit. So in all I am getting the 64 oz of liquids plus the 60 grams of protein as well. I am 10 days post op and just about ready to add purees. But I am still waiting for the dietitian to get back to me. I just don't want to push anything that will interfere with the stomach healing. -
You are down over 50lbs and almost 16% body weight in less than 3 mo. That’s awesome! Also, I heard once that typically you go down a size every time you lose 10% of your weight. Keep up the great work! I get sleeves on March 12 and am anxiously counting down the days [emoji51]

Sorry I've been away for so long, I've been enjoying my banded life! I had my surgery 10/1. Went for my esophogram and follow-up on 10/9. Everything went well. I found out that I have the 14 cc band. I started my mushy/pureed diet on 10/12. My God how great it is to eat again!! I've been eating all sorts of things, and I am so surprised at how little it takes to fill me up. I find myself eating 2 times a day, and I'm usually not hungry much before lunchtime. oatmeal, chili, meatballs, Soups, I even ate some cavatelli!! I go back to work on 10/22. The doctor's office was very nice and gave me 3 weeks time off for disability. I begin introducing solid foods into my diet on 10/30 and I go for my first fill on 11/6. My port area is still a little sore, but all of the incisions are healing nicely. The swelling has really gone down now and I can see my weightloss. And my clothes are starting to feel too loose!!

22 December 2006 I'm on Day 10 of the two-week pre-op liquid diet and doing well. The past three weeks have been hectic with concerts and commitments and wrapping up year-end things at the store, plus wild weather. The weight loss through this has been easy, in part because of my grief over the sudden death of my oldest car on Dec. 3. And this past week I have been doctoring cat #3 who has developed liver issues. I was sure I would take her with me back to California, and after three days of vet visits it appears again that I will. She's bouncing back slowly. Looking after her helps to keep my mind off my own stuff. I am looking forward to a productive weekend at home, cleaning up old stuff, packing for the trip to Puerta Vallarta, and looking forward to a new me in the New Year. I have made all my travel arrangements, including giving pre-authorization for the credit card charge for the surgery payment, and lining up my birth certificate and other travel docs. Ginny (who is traveling with me) has been a great cheerleader along the way, and I'm looking forward to a little dedicated girl time with her. We both so need a break from the Theatre! My only anxiety about the trip is leaving Sylvia and Salem with once-a-day cat care for a week. I'm already looking forward to coming home to them again. :youcandothis:

I just had my 10 month post op appointment today. I have lost 12 lbs since last month and am at a total loss of 88 lbs since surgery. I was feeling a bit frustrated when I went in because I am feeling SO HUNGRY in between meals. Within probably 2 hours of eating, I am so very hungry. I met with my nutrionist and we went over a lot of different things today, so hopefully we have gotten some things figured out in that department. I am obviously thrilled with the success so far though. I was a size 26 in jeans the day of surgery, and I am now a size 16. I was a size 3x in shirts, and I am now an XL (and they are actually a bit big really). I have absolutely no regrets about this band...other than not getting it sooner!!

So my stall started at week 2 and lasted almost a month. I'm on the heavier side and expected quicker weight loss as a result. My high weight was 422, pre-op 408, and I gained 10 pounds Water weight in the hospital. Yuck. I quickly dropped to 387 two weeks post op and stayed there. For almost a month! Luckily, I took the boards advice and kept measurements. In my 4 week stall I lost 33 inches and that's ok. However, I am super pleased to announce that, on weigh in today, I lost 11 lbs last week! Yay! My stall is over! I guess I just want those that are struggling with stalls to know that it does end and you do lose inches. Just stick with it and be patient.

Expected Weight Loss?
suzcomptime replied to Melissa D's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As far as my mini goals, I just looked at other people on here and how fast they lost after surgery and tried to come up with something reasonable. I assume I'll lose 7 or 8 lbs during 2 week liquid pre-op. That means I would need to lose about 10 lbs in the first month to get to my onederland goal. My next goal is 23 lbs in 3 more months, that may be too aggressive....I am typically a slow loser. But I'm not going to get too hung up on that.....I set the goals for it to be fun, not so I can get down if I don't quite make it that fast. I have hope and that sustains me. -
I'm on day 4 post op and I'm hungry! How is that? I thought hunger would not find me for awhile. I know it's just not head hunger as I went to bed and woke up feeling this way. My stomach is even growling. I had my first Protein drink which went down fine from 8-9, now it's 10 and I'm hungry. Anyone else experience this? Thanks
