Yes I remember that on my post op appt. with him I was allowed to go home and eat. It was the best scrambled egg I've ever tasted! Up until then it was just full liquids like protein shakes and soup. But I remember that even full liquids were more than a lot of others were allowed, since most surgeons only allow clears for much longer. Did you have surgery yet?

I'm doing great! I can easily meet my protein and liquids and I'm down 35 lbs. 10 was pre-op. I'm going back to work today. wish I had another week off I was weepy too! I was watching the show Ruby my second day home and cried like a baby, it was so weird, but it all gets better. The hardest part for me so far is learning my new tummy and watching other people eat. I have no regrets though. I hope the rest of your recovery goes well, you'll feel like yourself in no time.

Well I made it home. My gas pain is gone and Im doing a little better with sipping water. I was having out burst of crying for no reason at all. I did understand why I was feeling so depressed. Then the doc. told me some people react like this, it is called Post Surgery Depression. It is a side effect from the Anesthesia. My incisions look good. OMG, the worst part is the leak test!!! I did alot of crying and vomiting! Has everything been good with you? Do you have any problems with the protein?

I was going to buy some to try, but they say that your taste buds may change after surgery, so I did not want to waste my money. I was going to start buying a pack of that sample sets they have mentioned on here ,and try some of those isopure or whatever they are they sell at GNC. I thought if the protein stuff was bad enough I would just buy me a shot glass to keep by me and drink them that way. lol Oh and hold my nose at the same time. lol I may get some of that unflavored protein to add to my food. I will try that DaVinci Gourmet Syrups from Sams are they by the protein mixes? Wow you have been on your preop since the 3rd, that is a long time. Are you doing the count down yet? lol

Same here, after my hysteratomy and thyroidectomy (don't know how to spell..lol) I started gaining weight like crazy and was not small to begin with, and every doctor said the same thing you do not need WLS surgery diet and excercise....lol It took me 5 yrs to find a doc. that understood this was my only option to get healthy. I don't want to be a super model, I just want my needs to stop hurting and to throw away my cpap machine....wearing a size 10 would be nice...lol It sounds like you have been working just as hard as I have to start this journey and it will happen for the both of us I can not wait to see your post "I have a date"

Hi LESFLUFFYZ,
On the internet, we are all near-neighbours! I've had no protein supplements, but am trying to get it all from food, as advised by my doctor. Canned tuna with a drop of light mayo is good, and I had carpaccio for dinner last night, which must have given me a few grams! If I have had a 'bad day' when I can't eat, I have a SlimFast drink mid-afternoon. I am convinced my scales are broken, as I've stalled again!!

Hey sweetie and thank you! I don't feel like I'm melting but I know it is a good pace! I have carried the weight my whole life but yes I'm 27 so I'm sure that does help. I haven't been tracking the past couple weeks but when I was, my carbs were anywhere from 35grms-60grms a day. I haven't really changed what I'm eating so that's probably where it's at. I honestly don't think lack of carbs is a huge deal, but having ENOUGH protein is. I was really slow going for a few weeks and then I started adding a protein shake back in and poof 6 lbs in 8 days. I think it is helping a lot. Gave me a little more energy too.

Hi there! I guess you could say I am dieting...sticking to protein first and trying to get in all my fluids each day. I keep my carbs around 30g per day.
I'm not exercising much and I'm sure if I would I'd be losing a little better...it's just so danged HOT. Sounds like you're in the dreaded 3 week stall...it happens to most of us but it will pass. Did you take measurements of yourself before surgery? It was nice to see the inches coming off even when the scale wasn't moving.
Also are you journaling what you eat everyday? That's been a tremendous help to me. I use Free Calorie Counter, Diet & Exercise Journal | MyFitnessPal.com to log everything everyday.
Oh and feel free to write me anytime!

My class ended May 3rd! I've gone to one support group while I was taking my classes. It was interesting. I may try to go tonight. Kaiser Options has not contacted any of us from my track as of yet. Still waiting.

Hey hunny don't feel bad about visiting the site as much I've slowed down alot, just don't have much time. I'm off protein supplements so I get what i need from food now and I'm doing well with that. Honestly I am really bad about taking my vitamins, I know I have to take them to stay healthy but I can't seem to remember them some days. I have started to set an alarm on my phone to help me remember. Surgery for me was great the first 3 days I was like man this (ish) is not cool but by the 5th day I felt fine. Like most people on this site yes I would do it again in a heart beat. I have not hit the gym yet still just walking and doing my wii fit. I can tell that I need to tone up my arms have deflated and my skin is starting to hang. That doesn't bother me though I loved my body before. I had surgery to jump start healthy living. But I would like to be tighter and not so flappy (lol). Have you lost any weight pre-op? Do you have a date scheduled?

Thank you Lee for clearing up the options class. I seems odd that it is only a requirement down south but I am not complaining. Also, thank you for your words of encouragement and the great things you said about Dr. Baggs. I am suppose to be assigned my case manager on Monday and an getting more excited by the day!
-
Wow, thanks! That's about mine, too. I just have issues making sure I get in all my protein. I'm having to resort to Isopure, which is fine, just a little boring.
What kind of exercise did you incorporate at the beginning? I'm only 30lbs down and 20 days out and fluctuate between 2-3lbs up and down...I need to stay off the scale!
My nutrition plan is very thorough, just wondering what the hold up is. Then again, 30 lbs is nothing to scoff at.

Hey Missy Carolyn,
Thanks for the nice comments. I look baggie, too, and not happy about that, but comes with the territory of major fast weight loss. I've also had a piriformis muscle issue on the left glute that's bugging the sh*t out of me, painful. Doc says due to the weight loss. I'll go back to Mexico to get rid of all the hanging skin - Dr. Bell0 - already got the quote. Just waiting for my DH's job situation to settle before I set a date. I don't get in nearly the protein I should be; my calorie count is still very low, though, and I have 8 pounds to goal. I drink my protein drinks maybe 2X a week.

Hi Terri,
Sorry I didn't answer you. I don't get notified of visitor messages by my email. Just private messages. I have been doing well. I have been busy since last Friday. I made 7 Saskatoon pies and 2 dozen butter tarts on Friday for a Spring Market and tea that a group i belong to put on. It sucks big time to make all those pies and tarts and not be able to have one little wee taste. lol But I survived. I just got back from Calgary today. Was there a few days for docs. appointments. Eating cream soups, applesauce, and protein shakes now. Mmmm I found a protein shake I actually love. Tastes like melted ice cream. So glad to hear you have a date for surgery. You must be so darn relieved. Now the worry will set in. lol. Well you take care Terri and maybe we will talk in VSG chat.
See you.

You will definitely have to change your lifestyle. If you don't know get a good hold on your eating habits, and why you can't make good choices on your own, counseling may very well help you. The sleeve does make it easier especially in the beginning to make better choices. You really don't have room for anything other than protein foods if you want to follow the rules. If you choose to eat carbs, and junk then you aren't going to lose, and without protein, you could heal slower, lose more hair, and more muscle mass, so it's more than just eating right, it's about feeding your body properly when we have such a tiny stomach.

I was just wondering how you were doing and if you have had to start a pre-op diet yet? Mine is a week of clear liquids and protein drinks. I started today and so far so good!
-
Is it supposed to hurt everytime you eat anything? This pain in the center of my midriff is sure getting old. Otherwise, I'm doing pretty well. Just having some trouble getting all the protein in that I should. I had my first chewable multi-vitamin today and it was painful! (Yes, I chewed very slowly)

Can we talk. I'm going through the exact same thing as you. I was sleeved on 3/11 and to date I have only lost 12 poiunds. My carbs are under 20 grams and my protein is definitely at 60 grams, and for the life of me I don't know what's wrong. Something is terribly wrong with me and I don't know what..............

Hello there... I hope you are feeling as well as I am. I tend to heal very well and have a pretty high tolerance for pain. I almost feel bad about taking another week off work.... almost!! haha I am doing pretty good on the liquid diet. My doctor requires a 2 week liquid diet prior to surgery so I'm kinda of already in the zone so to speak. I have my follow up appt tomorrow, and after that, I can add protein shakes. Then 3 more weeks until mushies. I will be MORE than ready to eat by then!! My incisions are starting to itch a little, but I'm sure that's par for the course. How are you doing with everything? Did you have it done by a local doctor or did you have to travel? I'm really glad my doc is local (5 minutes from my house). I thnk that will make it all much easier in the long run. =]

No haven't had any trouble with swollowing food but have noticed that some things I DONOT like at all that I was ok with pre-op. My B-day was Sunday so mom made me an egg custard and had ice cream(vannila) with it, the custard was good the ice cream not so much and I was an ice creamaholic pre surgery, also I was ok with the ESA protein shakes from Walmart and had one in the fridge so I went to drink it and about barfed. Going to stick to the premium protein from Costco. THe tuna I ate for lunch today usually like it, but now it has very fishy taste and I suffered thru it but wont eat it again for awhile. Too bad I bought so much of it the other day.
The only real problem I have had is when I drink cold liquids I feel nausus for a few moments, but it passes and I can dirnk again It helps if the liquids are more like room temp.

My doc hasn't mentioned doing another ultra sound, but I may end up asking her about it when we get the results from the blood work she did. I've added some cream soups this week. Cream of chicken, cream of potatoe (had to blend) and I cooked the lentil soup recipe on the recipe forum here (but also blended it) and boy was that good! I can't wait to have cottage cheese. lol I never thought I'd hear myself say that. I've also added some whey protein shakes for breakfast. Some are good and others taste awful. Sounds like you are doing pretty good. I start back to work tomorrow and sure hope I do ok.
