  1. BP Family I had to share this. I was putting lotion on my excessively dry feet when I felt a bone on my ankle. It was such a strange feeling I had to look to make sure it was really an ankle bone...lol WOW my swollen ankles are goooone..hang in there everyone we are in for the ride of a lifetime. SW 340 Surgery Weight 324 CW 312.
  2. Thank you so much for this..i do get caught up in the numbers and not enough on the NSVs. I have gotten in smaller cloths, I can do more activities that I couldn't do before and I have tons of energy. You never no how limited you are till you loss that weight.
  3. I went on a long weekend to Las Vegas with a girl friend for a "girls get away" this past weekend. Had lots of fun. She knew I had the surgery and has been a great supporter. As our time went on, I realized how different it would have been if we did this a year ago, pre-VSG. I would have waited behind for her to go run around instead of walking 8+ miles a day. I would have been planning our Breakfast, lunch, dinner, food treats, etc. instead of oops...we didn't get lunch. I would have been planning at least one nap if I wanted to stay up late, instead of going 36 hours w/o sleep the first day. After that about 4 hours a night. I would have felt out of place and awkward around all of the twenty-somethings in the places we went thinking they were looking at me. I think I would have croaked going up and down the broken escalotors around the strip. Instead I scaled them like a teen, and even passed a gasping 12 year old. The plane travel was also so much better. I usually get a window seat. Not only because I like the view, but because it was one less person I was inconveniencing - I could squish against the window. This time it was actually comfortable...dare I say roomy. I stepped on the scale this morning, and I'm 1.5lbs down. Who loses weight on vacation? The changes we go through are kind of gradual even though our clothing is getting smaller. It took something like this to really see what a change it's made to me. It's really awesome.

    Vacation NSV

Just got back from vacation and can say its the best one I have ever had. We went to Williamsburg, VA and Washington D.C. I didn't have to worry about not keeping up when walking from place to place. Most the time I was the one least winded after hiking up the hill! I fit in all the rides at Busch Gardens (with room to spare). And Iost 1.5 lbs while on vacation and really didn't eat that great just didn't snack any and got my Water in. Got to say the sleeve is the best thing I have ever did for myself.
  5. I complained about a stall last week. I'm not at 3 weeks yet so I was panicky. Sorry if that annoyed some veterans on here. NSV....went "clothes shopping" in my closet today...3 hours later I have 76 pieces of clothing to bring to the clothing exchange my weight loss center is holding in 2 weeks! Stuff that is in very good shape and I am really hoping other people will enjoy (tough to let go of some of those things!) I also have 4 "new" pairs of pants that are 2 sizes down from where I began and a TON of new tops. I am a bit of a shopaholic and have purchased many, many things that will "fit me someday"....well, someday is here!! They may not last me for long (hopefully they won't) but I feel good about how I will look tomorrow. That's not a frequent thing so it feels even better!

    Banders #6

Hi friends. Happy Easter to those who Celebrate. Funny NSV yesterday. I was walking with a friend and the wind was gusting. A few times, I nearly was blown off my feet. Didn't have this problem at 267 lbs. but at 115, well that's another story. My poor friend had to hold onto me once or twice so I wouldn't go flying off.

    Plateau & NSVs

I don't sign in here very often, but since it had been awhile, I thought I'd check in. It's a year ago this month, that I had my last fill. That last one was so restrictive, I have not wanted to get another. Maybe I should go for a check, but I don't know that I want more added. I only managed to lose about 20lbs since that fill. I wonder if this happens to others. I lose 2-3lbs, then gain a little back at "that time of the month", after that, I may lose a little but then it remains the same weight for several days, before starting to lose again. It is very, slow. It's like two steps forward, one step back (that kind of thing). It is frustrating, but, as long as I keep heading in the right direction, I'm okay. The good news is, that I have been buying smaller clothes. Medium tops and smaller pants/jeans/skirts. Bottoms are mostly 10s, but I have at least one or two 8s, one size 9/10 and some just say Medium. I even have one pair of jeans I got at a yard sale, that I'd had hanging as my inspirational jeans, that I fit into!!!! I just about fell over, when they zipped up, because they're size 6. That brand's sizing has to be off. I've got other size 8s that I can't get even closed to zipped. It has also been nice that people have obviously noticed that I'd lost more weight, because they comment on it. I've heard 'skinny', 'thin' and 'svelte'. That last one gave me a good laugh, as nobody has ever called me svelte. So, as of right now, I am 23lbs from my official goal. As I've always said though, we'll see how it goes. If I feel great and am happy with a little bit higher, I'll be good. I do not want to be wafer thin. I think we should have 'some meat on our bones'. Stick thin is just not cute. If you're frustrated like me, just hang in there and work for it. Don't give up. It is hard, but I would've never gotten as far I as have, without the band. It's one of the best decisions I've ever made.
  8. Kindle: thanks for this thread! I do not currently own a scale, just weighing in at the doctors when I go. I was one month out yesterday, and I have been amazed this last week at how much I can function normally without being out of breath and sweaty at work( I teach at a LARGE high school). I have a long way to go, but feeling normal within my work environment is a great feeling. BTW, I have more than 200 pounds still to lose, so looking forward to lots of NSVs to come!
  9. One of my favorite NSV thus far at only a few weeks out is that I can sit in the recliner and my 2 yo can sit next to me! Usually I would just have to hold him (and obviously I love to do!) but he climbed up right next to me and we both fit. I almost cried! Also, all my clothes that I have t worn in 2 years before I had by son now fit! It was fun going through all my clothes and trying some things on. Some were too small still but that's okay, I will get there! Then I will get to buy more!
  10. Awesome post kindle! I will be a year out from surgery on April 16th. My biggest regret over the past year is that I focused too much on what the scale reported versus how my body look or more importantly, downplayed the things my body now allows me to do that I couldn't do before! I didn't exercise much this past year because I noticed every time I did, my weight loss would slow down on the scale. I'm now paying the price as I think I've lost a lot of muscle mass the past year. I'm now focused on toning and that may just add some weight on the scale and I'm okay with that. My goal is to look good naked at this point! I agree that the endless posts about stalls on this site do become kind of annoying to read. They happen people!!! It's part of the process! I think all of us come in to this process with such a huge fear that we will fail like we have so many times before and then it becomes an obsession. The weight WILL come off! Just follow your doctor's plan. Heck, rebel a bit and the weight will still come off! So here are some of my NSV this week: 1) I continue to steal clothes out of my teenage daughter's closet daily (size 6/8) AND she has now started stealing my clothes. If anyone knows how picky teenagers are, this a huge compliment! 2) I wore my daughter's size 6 lululemon leggings to jog and considered NOT covering my a** for the first time ever because it looked kinda hot for a middle aged woman (lol, I crack myself up but I will post a picture below to prove I have no shame! ????) 3) I ran farther than I ever did before and actually enjoyed it!
  11. I see so many posts on here from people stressing over the numbers on the scale...."I'm stalled", "I'm a failure" , "what am I doing wrong?" "How much did everyone lose at X months out?" "Disappointed" "only down X number of pounds" etc etc. Seems like a lot of unnessecary, made up unhappiness over a stupid number. The scale has become the transfer addiction for so many. So for those of you obsessing over, and making yourself unhappy because of what the scale says, I challenge you to STAY OFF THE SCALE FOR A MONTH! Check in on this thread once/week, just like the other CHALLENGES on this forum, but instead of a number, report your latest NSV.'s Whether it's an improvement in your health, a drop in Meds, a smaller clothing size, an activity you couldn't do before, a nice compliment, a new, healthy food choice, whatever. Tell us something that made you feel good about your decision to have WLS. Something that has nothing to do with the scale. After all, these are the things that matter. At the end of the month, go ahead and weigh. Hopefully you can see how much easier this journey is when you Celebrate the NSVs rather than fretting over numbers. I've had SO many NSV's in the last year, but since I just went on my first couple horseback rides of the season this last week I'll start there... I can hop up into the saddle without needing to find a stepping log or rock. And I LOVE the new saddle I had to buy last summer because my butt was way too small for my old saddle. And I had to tighten the thigh straps on my chaps at least 3 inches for them to fit. Comon...let's hear what made your week! Oh yeah, and this isn't meant to be just an NSV thread, it's meant to be a stay off the scale and celebrate your NSVs thread.....No weighing for a month!!!!
  12. In Jan. 2011 I stood in a winter storm in Missouri. Hidden under a little green tent with the sweet smell of flowers and tears rolling from my eyes. I buried my 46 yr old brother due to comorbitities of super morbid obessity. I promised that day I would change my life and try to help my family do the same. I was "the small one" in a family of over eaters with thyroid, hormone and a plethora of other issues that would sabatoge any attempt to lose weight, and forget maintaining! I was depressed, stressed, and hating life. Thank God for my husband, children, and best friend. I roller coastered with my weight, no permanent loss was sustained. That's the way it had been my whole life. I had a coworker tell me that she heard our insurance had changed and she thought it would cover WLS. So off I went, and in a hurry! Mar 5, 2014 was my first appt, Mar 26, I was in surgery. I had no complications as of today. A few things I learned along the way...... 1. Stick with the plan, always stick with the plan 2. Hydrate 3. Don't be scared to try new things (Tofu, Shirataki noodles, trampolines, sky diving) 4. Be prepared, even if you are just going out for a few hours, have some go to Snacks with you in case you get delayed 5. Know where you can eat out at and stay on plan, or don't go out to eat. Big one for me due to work travel 6. Celebrate NSVs 7. Smooth Moves by the case is more economical, EBay lowest price I have found 8. When you cook, cook enough for several meals and freeze in one meal containers for later (I do a lot of soups) 9. You will stall, it's inevitable, STICK WITH THE PLAN 10. Take pics and journal, as your body and mind changes you will understand 11. Realize your hair will grow back, take Biotin, find a good shampoo and conditioner, get a shorter haircut, wear a hat 12. Plan what you are going to do with the extra years you are adding to your life from losing weight and burdens associated I'm not done, but getting close to maintenance and realizing I CAN DO THIS! Attached are a few pics: my progression in pics, my WL data, and my staples

    January Sleevers ❄️

Sorry to hijack this thread (I'm a December 2013 sleever), but It astounds me how many posts on here are about the scale and stalls. You guys are all doing great postop, but you are obsessed with numbers! The batteries in my scale went dead right after my last fad diet....HCG. That was almost 3 years ago. I've never replaced them. I managed to go through the preop diet, VSG surgery, lose over 100% of my excess weight, and keep it off, all without the "help" of the scale. Dropped from size 22w jeans / XL-XXL tops to size 5 jeans/ M tops.....without owning a working scale. I weighed myself maybe 6 times at the doctors office during the first 4 months. After that it was once/week on the scale at work (fully clothed with boots on and after breakfast) so I had something to put on my ticker. Now I might remember to step on the scale once/month. I actually have no idea what I weigh naked first thing in the morning,,because the number doesn't really matter. I feel fabulous, I am out of pain, I have normal BP, and can do whatever physical activity I want without restriction. For me, that's why I did all this. You all may want to try it. It's very liberating and made for a relaxing, stress-free, NSV-filled weight loss adventure!
  14. Don't weigh yourself for about a month. Concentrate on water, protein, vitamins and healing. I rarely weighed, so I didn't even know I was in a stall unless it lasted 2-4 weeks. Believe me, I was a lot happier than all the posters on here that stress about every little number on the scale. If you are following your plan You will lose weight whether you step on the scale or not. Just enjoy the NSVs.

Question regarding 7 weeks post op

I was sleeved February 18th. HW 254, SW 242, CW 218. I'm 5'9 and 42 years old. I've walked 5 to 6 times a week making my way from a mile to three miles now. I walk the 3 miles in an hour. I'm now losing at a rate of 2 lb per week. I've lost a total of 72 inches (I measure EVERYWHERE). I can bend over and pick up something in my car floor board now. Those types of NSV'S are what I enjoy most. I've also gone from a size 22 to an 18.

what type of scale do you use?

Thanks Guys!! I don't go back to the doc till June and I want to be close to 250 by then. Maybe unrealistic but I'm also going on a cruise at the end of June and want to look cute (I'm already cute just more cute ) so that's why I'm kinda stressing about the numbers...I have had NSV I can get in a size 22 and i haven't been in that since i was 18 so YAY for that.
  18. BLERDgirl

what type of scale do you use?

It's just another reason why the scale is not the best way to monitor your progress. Look for NSV and take your measurements. Even when the scale doesn't move, you'll get a better view of your progress.
  19. Today was my 6 week follow up from having my sleeve and it went very well.I am down more weight also my NSV I am down a shirt size and two pant sizes.Best of all is now I can have some(soft) food, instead of puree foods. I am very happy to have found this site,it has helped me learn more about my sleeve and read that other people struggled as I have.I want to thank all that has shared your stories and want to wish everyone luck on their weight loss journey.

October 2014 sleevers check in please!

Hi guys! I'm just a few weeks out from 6 months. I have lost a total of 112 pounds. I've gone down from size 32 jeans being really tight to size 26 being loose, and on top I've gone from a 32/5X to a 24/3X or 22/2X, depending on cut and material. I'm about a 24 dress size now. About me: 5'8", mid-30s, large frame, PCOS and hypothyroid What I eat: Breakfast: a Protein shake or Protein Bar Lunch: 3-4 ounces of meat, 3-4 ounces of veg, sometimes 1-2 ounces of starch if there is room left Afternoon snack: protein bar or alternate snack (cheese, veggies and dip, etc.) Dinner: Whatever the family is eating, adapted to focus on protein and veg, eaten in the 3 bites protein 2 bites veg 1 bite starch pattern I sometimes add another snack if I've done a heavy workout and need a little something else - a piece of fruit or some cheese, often. On average, I'm getting: 1230 calories 30g sugar 76g protein 26g Fiber 1800 mg sodium 656 mg Calcium before supplementation 7mg Iron before supplementation 108g carbs Working out: I strive for 150 minutes of activity a week. I mostly do walking, and then 3 times a week on average I go to the gym for high-intensity interval cardio plus weight training. I lift pretty heavy (8 reps per set) and have been really happy with the strength gains I've seen. I do a lot of walking apps and games to keep myself interested - The Walk, Zombies, Run!, and Ingress, for instance. NSVs: So many! -I can now sit painlessly in the Evil Chairs in my office -I can now fit into restaurant booths -I can buy clothes in more than just one store instead of just being limited to Catherine's -My bad knee is waaaaaaay better, so I don't need a cane to walk anymore -I am off BP meds and metformin -I have more energy and feel overall happier I'm going to fly somewhere next month. Can't wait!
  21. I went walking this weekend and when I saw my shadow it was such a marked difference from before surgery. I was amazed at the smaller size of me! I didn't expect that NSV and it was such a sweet victory. New blessings every day.

    So disappointed

I can't stress enough to STAY OFF THE scale. I only weighed about 6 times in the first 3 months. The NSVs are way more important than numbers. But if you want to compare, here's my numbers.... 0 pounds lost at 11 days 17 pounds at 7 weeks 30 pounds at 3 months. I've read so many posts about people whining over losing way more than that. It astounds me because I was thrilled and encouraged by every single pound I lost along the way, no matter how fast or slow. Of course dropping pant sizes and being out of pain and crossing my legs and my rings actually becoming too big we're all way more exciting. I still surpassed my surgeon's goal by over 20 pounds and my personal goal by over 10 pounds. And no matter what your rate of loss, if you are eating healthy then you are not failing. My plan was very simple.....60-80g Protein everyday. Minimum 64oz Water everyday. Vitamins everyday. Plenty of veggies as I could eat them, a little bit of fruit. Stayed away from white carbs (pasta, bread, rice, crackers, alcohol, sweets) until I was within 10 pounds of goal.

    NSV for tonight

Tonight for the first time in a long time, I went to the club. I went with my God brother and his wife (I call her my sister) and I had an awesome time! For the first time in at least 10 years I didn't feel like the fat ass outcast. I'm not sure if it's the little boost of confidence I have since the surgery or the awesomeness of the people I was with. I think it may have been both because I went on a cruise with some of these people about a year ago and I didn't feel the same then. I'm grateful for them and for the surgery! Tonight confirms that I'm surrounded by supportive friends who love unconditionally AND that I did the right thing for me having this surgery. God is so awesome and I am eternally grateful!!

    How about some NSVs!?!?

On Thursday I had a regular scheduled doctors appointment. They weighed me but I don't believe their scale cause it's not the surgeons office. Anyway, then they took my blood pressure and oxygen saturation level. It wasn't until after they were done that I realized they used a "regular sized" blood pressure cuff on my arm. That's my first of what I'm sure will be many nsv's. Lol
