Get an egg cup. Eat two of those. Don't eat more. Don't think the not drink half an hour before is necessary, 10 minutes is probably fine but try then leave it a whole hour after. Once you drink, the food is gone. Listen to your body very well and don't try and rely on the restriction.

Hi. Thanks for replying. No didn’t stink for half an hour before or after. It took me about 10 minutes to eat but I’m still working on eating slower.

1st day post op vsg
GradyCat replied to Dayana-VSG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How are you feeling? Are you still in the hospital? Get up and walk 10 minutes an hour if you can. You'll feel tired for about a week after surgery. -
1 week post op and I feel amazing!!
catwoman7 replied to blackluxury82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it took awhile before I needed smaller sizes - but then, a lot of my clothes weren't exactly "form fitting", since I wanted to hide my fat! But I can say that 10 lbs can mean a different size when you're at or close to a normal BMI. It's quite a bit more than that the further above normal BMI you get. I think I wore the same clothes for a good 30 or so lbs -- maybe more - at least at the beginning. -
I have never been to a Smoothie King but my 1st question would be do they have any protein in them? The 1st 8-10 months you need to really focus on protein & make sure you get in what you are supposed to. Smoothies can really fill up your stomach so be careful that you aren’t going over 3oz if you are treating it like a meal. I would stick to a small homemade smoothie with protein powder added.

Holy cow. I did my psych visit from a Las Vegas hotel room using Zoom. It didn't last even 10 minutes! I can't believe you have to take the MMPI test at all, much less in an office! Not cool.

Hey! I'm 10 days post op. I miss getting coffees and drinks out. I'm going to wait most until I feel 100% comfortable and healed but wanted to know anyone go to smoothie king after their weight loss surgery? What's some things you like to order/find is okay for post op life? Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

I strongly suggest waiting until the 18 month mark before even trying to get pregnant. Its great that you have lost weight so far, but once you are pregnant your weight loss will be put on hold and chances are you will never get back on track. The first 12-24 months are the prime time for losing weight with these surgeries and trying to grow a life inside you is draining! Unfortunately, I know this first hand. I had a lap band placed in August 2017 and delivered my first child in January 2019. He was basically conceived around the 9 month mark. I don't recommend it. 1 Year Post OP and I think I am alcoholic
ReddGypsy replied to Coexister's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm 5 years out (2016) with GS and alcohol has been a sporadic transfer addiction since 2019 after my Dad passed away, then 2020 Covid...relationships...2021 basically LIFE to 2022. Ok, that's sugar coating... I saw it becoming a minor issue in late 2018, however, I was still working out and maintaining my weight loss. I made comments on another thread late last year about alcohol and transfer addictions after a bad night and it's now Feb 2022. I do ok..."for a while"...and then? Boom. Last Thursday I had a horrible regression into two bottles of wine, where ALL my feelings came out. They were Good, Bad and then UGLY. I'm not sure who that person was and I know that version of me can't live like that anymore. I got all my bloodwork done and know my health is stable....Got my roadmap there. This Thursday I'm starting some much-needed therapy for my mind and all these "feelings" (new or old) I didn't learn how to manage. It's time to be responsible and respect the mental with the physical...get my soul feeling balanced again. I still have my sleeve restriction and will be working on losing the 50 or so lbs I've gained over two years. I really appreciate posts like this and sharing your stories to inspire me...that I haven't failed and am not alone in some of the feels that were trapped in the "fat". -
I've had the ones they had at Aldi awhile ago (different brand, but same idea - chips made with popped corn (they were called Flex Popcorners, I think) - plus they had added protein (I think 10 grams of protein per serving (22 chips - 130 calories)). I think they were a seasonal item since I haven't seen them lately. I liked them. I didn't eat them every day -- just occasionally when I wanted something crunchy and salty. I just made sure to work them into my daily calorie range. (i"m several years out and don't worry about carbs anymore - I mostly just focus on protein and overall calories at this point)

I was diagnosed about 10 years ago with sleep apnea and given a CPAP machine that I don't use (I know, not good). Having had my colon removed and now having a j-pouch, I have many bowel movements a day since a pouch does not absorb water like a colon does, nor does it hold as much stool (basically I have chronic diarrhea). I read on another forum that a woman who had both procedures said her life has been hell (this post was from 9+ years ago though) since having the sleeve done and having a j-pouch. She said that food goes right through her, I guess since there is only so much room in the stomach and then the pouch being the way it is? Another woman who I am speaking to who had both procedures done said she had the same issue at first, but it got better. She now takes Lomotil twice in the evening so she doesn't have to go so much during the night, but can handle the extra bowel movements during the day. I'm going to meet with my colorectal surgeon this week (he didn't perform my surgery but is the one who I've been seeing for quite a while now) to go over everything again. It's odd how some doctors say it's fine and others say no way.

March 2022 Surgery Buddies
Kelly Sweetheart replied to LilaNicole20's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The dietician in one of the videos I'm required to watch called it a food funeral. He said the first few days are the worst. I start my diet on 3/10, I think I'll be able to do it. Part of my pattern yo-yo diet was to "shrink my stomach" and stop carb cravings by fasting for at least 24 hours. This was just my psych belief. I've never researched it. But I always began a diet this way. LOL -
I was curious about coffee/caffeine and found some answers. It’s not about the dehydration so much, but about the way caffeine effects blood sugar control https://www.iowadiabetes.com/2020/01/01/coffee-diabetes/. The recommendation against coffee in particular was based on a Duke University study in 2008 where diabetics had 8% higher blood sugar readings if they had caffeine equivalent to 2 cups of coffee or 200 milligrams of caffeine per day. I LOVE coffee and my doctor is adamantly against it. I have started drinking it again (1cup) because I was not diabetic before surgery or now. I’m still investigating because I don’t know if the study was replicated.

I have came to the same conclusion as you! Unless I'm drinking 10 cups of tea, I'm not going to get dehydrated. Its not like I can lose 5 pounds of water weight by having a cuppa. My bariatric Dr Even said a cup of tea here and there isn't going to hurt anything. I normally have one cup of tea in the morning and one can of diet soda. Because of the carbonation, I will have to quit the soda for awhile.

Just remember: the weight they predict is only an average - you could be higher or lower! They predicted right on for me (I'm about a year and a half post-op), but I still want to lose 10 more pounds.☺️

Is anyone's spouse against WLS?
ShoppGirl replied to MrsGreen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not sure why society still sees this as the easy way out. Once you get back to regular foods you could technically eat something every hour if wanted to. And if you did that, especially combined with poor food choices, you could take in a huge amount of calories and would not lose or possibly even gain. I seen this firsthand at 10-11 months out when I had death in the family. I started out by just eating more servings of food and gained a little bit then began with poor food choices and ended up gaining 4 pounds in a very short amount of time. It’s not a magic wand, or easy. It’s just a tool. Yes it sets you up to be successful if you do everything right but NO iT DOES NOT do the work for you. -
What's interesting is that it seems like SO MANY PEOPLE have this exact feeling... it kind of shows me how little this part is spoken about and how unprepared so many of us were for the very first week or few days following surgery. I certainly was caught unaware and didn't think I could make it though those first 5 days. I don't feel like my team prepared me for this at all. They just spoke about "discomfort." Sure. Discomfort! You are voicing what most of us experienced, but you also seem taken aback... and yes, I assume I am not the only person who felt nothing but pain and regret for the first 5 days. Sounds like that's where you are too. Then something magically turns and the one week mark is nothing like the 4-day mark, and by 10 or 12 days you're feeling like a different person. The hardest thing is HANGING IN THERE. We don't get a choice at that point, there's nothing else you can do but hang in there, but emotionally keep telling it to yourself. Please post back here by day 7 or 10 and tell us how you feel! then again at 2 weeks... you'll see, world of a difference. Let us know.

Is anyone's spouse against WLS?
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to MrsGreen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe he's one of those spouses that the idea of their spouse actually losing weight makes them insecure. I've read that this happens for some couples. The spouse in question is afraid that if their spouse loses weight, it will change the dynamic of their marriage. If the spouse having WLS actually loses weight this time, they will gain confidence and will be noticed by others of the opposite sex, or even leave the marriage. So they're using the excuse that it's the easy way out in order to deflect from their own insecurities in the hopes it guilts you into not having the surgery. Again, I've never heard of this happening with anyone I've known, just read about it. But in the end you have to do what's best for you and your health, so maybe you just need to explain this to him that you're worried about where your health will be in 5, 10, 20 years if you don't get healthier now. Best wishes to you! -

Too Big for Sleeve?
gabbykittyvsg replied to simplysmile's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the sleeve 7 years ago and will be converting to bypass in 10 days. This is because of severe GERD. If you have heartburn at all, go for bypass as the sleeve will very likely make heartburn or GERD worse. A lot of people have had to convert for this reason. I had my TT (muscle repair, no lipo*) on 1/10/22. Recovery was what I expected pain wise but not time wise. For some crazy reason I thought I would bounce back in a couple of weeks - NOPE! The first week I needed help doing everything (except wiping my hiney - thank God). The drains were removed on day 8 which did not come quickly enough. I haven't had any major complications, just a minor (small hematoma) that resolved on its own. I'm still a bit tender but I can now sneeze/laugh/cough without my eyes tearing up. My scar is healing ahead of schedule (per surgeon). I tried silicone tape (week 3) but it made me itch so I just massage my scar with coconut oil daily but I do forget some days. I will be having scar revision in the future but that was always part of the plan. I have a high belly button and I also had a tattoo around my belly button. Not one of my smartest moves but what can I say, I was 20 something at the time. My surgeon does not make "T" incisions due to blood supply concerns. Also, since the entire tattoo could not be removed, I didn't want a totally distorted tattoo. So my scar at this time is higher than both he and I would prefer. The scar revision is an office procedure with local anesthesia so I didn't object. I chose to "stage" my lipo after my tummy tuck. I'm scheduled for lipo on 2/28/22. Why you may ask. I'm having multiple sites done (knees, inner thighs, saddle bags, and flanks). By doing it in "stages" the lipo of the flanks can be more "aggressive" than if I had it with the TT.

If i were going to go the Mexico route. I would have gone with Dr Guillermo Alvarez at Endohospital Bariatrics. The places is amazing and all they do is sleeves. He is a USA educated doctor. His hospital looks amazing and very very upscale. he post videos on youtube weekly regarding sleeves and his instagram channel is also impressive with constant stories on what he does. I think at his place a sleeve is just under 10 grand. Here is his youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/c/Endobariatric . I am also self pay. Doing it in Florida and costing $18-19K. Insurance wont cover.

would anybody in NC like $1,000 worth of Unjury? (free, seriously!)
billho posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I have accumulated some Unjury that I would like to donate to someone in my area. I have 24 cans of Strawberry and 19 cans of Chocolate. These sell for about $25 a can, so about $1,000 worth. I got them for my son, but he only likes the Vanilla flavor. I'd like them to go to a good home. Would anybody want it? I am in Winston-Salem, NC and happen to be planning to drive through Raleigh and to Eastern NC this weekend if anyone wants to met me along the path. Let me know.
