First and foremost, Happy Friday! When I started this journey at 6'4" 380 lbs I never thought I'd get approved and just kind of went through the paces. When I learned about the 3 mo waiting period I figured it would be a good time to just endulge on everything I would potentially be giving up in the future. Month one I gained almost 10 lbs. I realized how stupid this was and that I'm doing it for all the wrong reasons! So, 4th of July I lit a fire under my a** and said that I WILL lose 20 lbs by my Pre-op shake diet (hoping to lose another 10 on the 14 day plan). Well I don't start the Pre-op for another 30 days and today I weighed 349! Now I have readjusted my goals to lose 50lbs by my surgery date. I can't believe how easy it was to lose 30lbs in two months when you have the right motivation! So here I go on part two of this, 10 lbs in the next month then 5-10 lbs on 14 day Pre-Op!!!!

Woow i swear i thought i was the only one going through this roadblock smh my surgery was also 8/4/15 and ive lost only 19 lbs. im like something aint right? Did my surgeon perform the surgery correctly? Lol its soo aggravating when i see other people a month in and theyve lost almost 40-60 lbs what the heck. I thought for sure i would have been one of those people. Worse part is i feel exactly the same ughh. 1 more week until i can get in the gym im soo ready for this weight to just start melting off. When will this "plateu" go away?? Ugh

did anyone gain weight on 6 month diet
Chelle replied to Amanda R's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on my 6 month diet right now....and I have gone up and down. What I notice is that I am learning all of these things about food, eating, etc......so I seem to have food on the brain 24/7. I have another 50 ish days before my pre-op appointment, and if they weighed me right now I would be up a couple- hoping I can drop 10 in the next 50 days. Good luck to you!! -

It never really clicked that without food in the pre op phase I wouldn't have energy, I've been on the shakes for 6 days now and it's only yesterday that I felt exhausted, I don't know how anyone that has a job can deal with this, I don't have a job which usually I'm bummed about but at this point I'm glad I don't because I never would be able to work and be on the shakes, I feel exhausted even after 10 hours sleep which is ridiculous. Anyone else encounter this?

So, I had my last required pre-op test before my surgeon would submit for insurance approval (sleep apnea) and my case worker from my diet/nutrition program submitted my charts as being good to go, lost the 10 lbs (+) they required, but I have NO idea when the sleep apnea results are going to be faxed to the surgeon!!!!!!!! I know they say it typically takes about 2 weeks (had the test on the 3rd), but I called the Sleep Center, they told me to call the pulmonologist, called the pulmonologist, they told me to call the sleep center. I am just going nuts praying these results come in soon so they can submit everything to BCBS!!!! I am so eager to get this surgery done I can't even stand it! And just when I feel like I'm close to the finish line, it seems to be further and further away.... Anyway, sorry to whine everyone. I just needed to vent. Please keep your fingers crossed that they send those blasted test results into my surgeon ASAP!!!

Greetings everyone! I wanted to have the lap band for years but financially it was just not possible! Low and behold about 3 months ago, I open my e-mail to find out that the military hospital I go to for medical care - and Tricare - now offers lap bands! :crying: They have been offering GB and GS for several years and the lap band is new for the system - but not the doctor that performs it. I am thrilled and willing to go the course - which includes waiting (elective surgery in a major military hospital that supports a large number of troops going back and forth to Afghanistan/ Iraq) It looks like I might be able to expect my surgery in October if all goes well. I will be required to loose 10-20 lbs and show that I am implementing what is taught through the pathway. I'm thinking the fact that 10-20 lbs is coming off me is a good indicator!! I'm going to need this support group and have appreciated reading your posts! As there are far more post GB and GS in the support groups - not as many lap band patients. So I'm looking forward to being involved with this online family. On my way to loosing half of me!! Ingie Oh, that I might have my request, that God might grant what I hope for.... Job 6:8:rolleyes2:

Sacramento, calif. Gastric Sleeve. In Pre-Op Now!
Larry Stuto posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What a decision! Im with Kaiser South Sacramento. Things movin fast! I have to drop 15lbs pre-op. Im down 10 & waiting for my Sike(physcological) Dr, appointment. They then schedule surgery and I have to lose 5 more LBS. before. Total looks like 3-4 months from start to surgery. On a 1200 calorie now. Not bad but not easy. Man I want a cheeseburger and fry or fish N chips. LOL. Good news is I want a NEW ME MORE!! I was originally sold on the lapband but have been won over by the Gastric Sleeve bypass. Lap band longterm did not appeal to me. Why go through all this to fail. Plus,Insurance only covers 1 surgery so If it failed and they had to take it out I have to pay for the next one. I also found out that It is approx. $100.00 each time they have to fill the port. Insurance wont cover. Anyway I cannot wait to get this ball a rolling. Ive been practicing chewing my food, small bites, taking my time and no liquids when I eat. Started the vitamin supplements too! My Dr. has done over 1000 surgeries with awsome success. So im comfortable. Good luck to all my other newbies!! and Pre-Oppers! Love to stay in touch and share our progress! Email anytime! -
Surgery scheduled for 1/19. Had pre-op yesterday and ready to go.

Switching Doctors in the middle of the process-UGH!
Gendy posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am so ticked off! I went to the doctor to get my band unfilled as an emergency because I couldn't keep any food down. I thought the doctor's office had submitted my paperwork to the insurance company on 10/8/14, but they didn't. It seems that my doctor no longer works there so I have to go to a new doctor AND the new doctor won't do the surgery in one surgery he does it in two. My deductible is met for this year and they're not sure they can get me in for one surgery this year, much less both surgeries. They want to wait 6 weeks between surgeries. The doctor's office kept apologizing and saying that somehow my case slipped between the cracks. No one ever called to let me know the doctor no longer worked there. If I hadn't gone in at the last minute, I would have kept thinking that my paperwork was submitted to the insurance. They even called me and cancelled my 10/1/14 appointment saying it wasn't necessary since my paperwork was ready to go. The doctor left 3 weeks ago! In the mean time I've lost 28 pounds since July, not by trying, but because the band was too tight and I couldn't keep anything down. So now my BMI is at 34. I'm not sure the insurance will even approve me now. I was warned not to gain any weight or they won't do the surgery. Has anyone else had to switch doctor's in the middle of going thru the process of the revision from band to sleeve? I'm so mad I could just spit. -
Not sure what to do...family doc against bariatric surgery
Creekimp13 replied to TexasMommy80's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Switch doctors. Your doctor is out of date...which doesn't speak well of her keeping up on her continuing education. My doctor's been asking me to consider WLS for over 10 years. So far, so good. -
I was banded on the 20th. I started regreting it whiling waiting for the surgery to start. I spent the night at the hopsital because my sergery did not take place until about 8pm. I was in pain the day after sergery but I was okay. About day 3 the gas started in my back and then up to my neck. The pain was so severe in my neck that I thought that I was gonna die. All I could do was lay down. Everytime I sat up the pain would come back very strong. I started regreting it again. Today the pain is bearable without meds. And looking at the scale which is 10 pounds less than the day of surgery. Everything is going good now so just hold on it will get better. I don't know if it is my mind but I feel like i can feel the band inside me. Can you? Well keep your head up as we go on this journey together. GOOD LUCK!!

Hi, you will have to do the 12 week options program after your orientation. That gives you time and information you will need to make your decision whether or not you want to have the surgery. I had my surgery 10 months ago with Dr. Belzberg and he was great! the program is a lot of work but it will really help you make an informed decision. Good Luck, I had a great experience and wish you the same! -
I just had an esophagram, and all that required was for me to lay on my side on the xray table and drink a bunch of the scrumptious barium while they xrayed. It took all of maaybe 10 minutes, tops.

I was also banded on the 24th and have lost about 10-11 lbs. I have went walking a couple of times but want to start going everyday. I am on mushies and can eat things like shredded chicken....what you find in canned chicken....but the swelling has really gone down since surgery and the restriction I was getting from that is also going away. I do get hungry more often but have been able to control it. I will get my first fill the week after Thanksgiving and even though it may take a few fills to get to where I want I am so ready for the pounds to start falling off.

Surgery on Feb 13th
conniesueb replied to 18ANDCHANGING's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Britt--I think it is awsome that you have chosen to take this journey at such a young age. I wish the band had been around when I was your age! I think it will be a pretty easy surgery for someone so young and probably otherwise healthy--the younger you are, the faster you heal, so try not to worry.. I had mine done as same-day surgery at a surgery center--not even in the hospital, and it was a breeze as surgeries go( I have had four knee surgeries that were all much harder)! You will be so happy once it is all over and you can start your new life. I was banded on November 30, and have already lost 45 pounds(I lost 10 before the surgery on my pre-op diet). I am so thrilled! Today, I had trouble finding something to wear because all my clothes are so big on me--I am down 2 pants sizes--it's incredible. I can tell you that if you start a regular exercise program after your surgery, things will be much easier for you. I never used to exercise, but now, I work out almost every day and am loving it. I am losing inches as well as pounds, and the whole shape of my body is changing--it's awsome! So, good luck with your surgery, and I will be saying a little prayer for you on Tuesday! -
Welcome! I'm getting banded April 10, so we're heading down the road together. There are a lot of great people here and great advice. Hope you stick around!

Will I chicken out?????
MerryHearted replied to bamamine's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The pain is not too bad and they give you pain meds. It's for a very short time. And once you drop the weight -- or even half of it -- you will feel a million times better! Do make a comprehensive list of why you want to lose the weight. Be specific -- i.e. not "for better health" but "to get my cholesterol into normal range", "to get my HA1c into normal range", etc. Besides all the reasons you want to lose weight, is there emotional pain associated with the excess weight? How bad will some minor physical pain for a week or so after surgery be compared to the long-term emotional pain of being unhappy with your size and/or health? How about the pain of having to have heart surgery down the road? (if that runs in your family; it does in mine). Whenever I hear of a diabetic person having to have a foot or leg amputated I cringe -- that's got to be awful. I was headed down that road in the long term. Or gout. Or joint problems from carrying around 100 extra lbs. Then there's another thing: have you been consistently 100 lbs overweight and holding for a long time? Or is a steady creep upwards, a few lbs per year? Without the band, how much will you weigh 5 yrs from now? 10? For me, it was a "lose 20 lbs, gain 40 back" scenario, with my weight rising year after year as I desperately tried to diet back to normal. But diets just didn't work long term for me, and they do not for most people. Not trying to be scary here or anything -- just suggesting looking at all the ramifications of long term obesity vs. a small amount of short term pain that will give you an excellent tool for getting into a normal weight range.:grouphug: -
Hey there folks. Names Jeff, from Ohio. 32, 6' 5" 429lbs -- band date of 12/5/07, and I am really nervous. Actually I think I am more nervous because of the operation, never had one before. The preop diet is a killer, on 4 SlimFast shakes a day (nothing else) for 2 weeks :faint:but only a week left. Fought with my weight as long as I can remember, and been on almost every diet known to man, even the fad lose 10 lbs in 1 day stuff :rolleyes. But I wanted to introduce myself, and say howdy, love the site and I hope to post a lot more good news!!!

African American here. Only my largest scar is dark, but looking at my hysterectomy scars from 10 years ago, they will fade with time. I used Scarfade gel initially because I also tend to keloid. That helped fade them a little bit and also flattened them out. I now use virgin coconut oil on them. I had 5 or 6 incisions and only 2 are noticeable now and the big one is the most noticeable.

Hi There! I am looking for a little insight- I am curious is this situation has happened to others, and if so how it was resolved. I am pre-op for a Sleeve Gastrectomy. I have completed all of my requirements (3-month medically supervised diet, Psych consult, Nutrition consults, Fitness consults, lost the 10 lbs my surgeon was requiring) and my final weigh in is this Tuesday. My issue is I am caught in a loophole of sorts regarding the Sleep Apnea testing. I had my first Sleep Apnea test (in-home) done in September. I came back diagnosed as having Obstructive Sleep Apnea. So my surgeon called and said I had to contact my PCP to order the 2nd test- this In-Lab titration, which I am reading is when I would receive my CPAP and they would monitor my sleep to determine the proper therapeutic settings. My PCP- while definitely being onboard for the surgery will not (cannot?) prescribe the titration, and that they would refer me to a pulmonologist. So I called my surgeon's office to tell them that and they basically said that they've never heard of this happening before, etc etc. and to instead call the office of the Dr. who read the first test and did the diagnosing. SO I did that- and that Dr. won't refer me for the titration either and instead referred me to a sleep specialist. I called my surgeon at that point and the person I spoke with wasn't very helpful, just basically said I had to "get it done" in order to get the surgery. I'm also a bit salty because I have great insurance and don't even require referrals for specialists so I suspect that if I could somehow contact the titration center that I could schedule it myself. Its also frustrating since I am so close to surgery and the situation resolving itself with the weight loss. I'm definitely not resistant to getting the CPAP though if that's what it takes (even though extra expenditures are definitely a concern- which is why I'd rather not get roped into a treatment routine with yet another specialist). So...my question is, has this happened to anyone else? How did you resolve it? If you were me, which route would you choose? I'm leaning towards the sleep specialist over the pulmonologist but then wonder if I'll get flak from my PCP. And I suppose this may delay my surgery now because I'm reading that once I finally get the CPAP I will have to do 30 days with it? (My surgeon hasn't confirmed this). Any experience, insight, or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!
