    When did everyone start ?

I was told to just walk for the first four weeks. At the four week mark, they said I could do anything but weights. I was allowed to use weights (strength train) at eight weeks out. I followed those guidelines.
  2. Wow, I weighed 185 pounds this morning, or 83.9 kilograms.

That means I've lost 91 pounds, or 41 kilograms.

A third of my body weight.

I knew I was over 100 pounds overweight, but I didn't know what that really meant. I definitely have a good idea of what that means, now!

My goal is 150, so that means 35 more pounds. I'm three months out from surgery and I expect that the rate of loss will slow. And that is perfectly okay. My health journey is far from being over!

    JUNE SURGERY BUDDIES

I stall all the time dont stress. Then other times lose rapidly. It’s just the body trying to hold onto fat as it knows you’re losing weight. Trust me just keep at a calorie deficit and I promise it will come off. My nausea has finally settled (5 months in)!! Wow that was a long and rough recovery. Recently did a CT scan which showed my stomach volume was only 100ml. Absolutely nuts!

    October 2023 surgery buddies

Yes! I have been the same. I stalled just before two weeks post op and I've been stuck at the same weight, give or take 0.2lbs since! I did speak with my dietician yesterday and she said take the batteries out the scale and stop weighing at the moment, but I don't think I can do that 😆 She did say do not worry, it's totally normal, so I try and remember that but it is frustrating. I like to think of it as our bodies are trying to recover and figure out what's going on and that's all it is.

    HELP with Vitamins!

First, a bit of confusion - have you hit your goal weight from surgery, as in 190 or so, or just some pre-op weight target and surgery is still in front of you? If you're still pre-op, then that is a fairly typical starting regimen, and yes, you should take extra calcium and iron above whatever the multi has in it - you won't be getting much nutrition from food for a while so you need the extra. If you are months post op and at your ultimate goal weight, then by now your labs will be guiding you and your doc as to what is needed - with a sleeve, a lot on that list will probably not be needed long term and will go away.
  6. can anyone please share success stories of how infertility has helped them after their weight loss journey? I need some inspiration and guidance 🤭😊

    HELP with Vitamins!

Congratulations on reaching your goal weight. Yay! I’m going to push a different view. Do you need all of those vitamins (& yes we have different needs)? Do your blood tests show you are lacking in anything? Or do they say you have more than enough of any you are taking? Find out if you need any specific ones & then take those. Remember excessive amounts of some vitamins can have side effects & other we simply pee out what we don’t need. Yes, some do have issues absorbing certain vitamins & minerals though it isn’t as common with a sleeve as with bypass. I only had to take a multivitamin & briefly vitamin D while I was losing. My surgeon said I could stop them at about 8 months by which time I had passed my goal. My blood work was great & still is 4.5yrs later though we did eventually pick up with my regular blood tests that my vitamin D levels drop in winter so I take a vitamin D mid autumn to mid spring. I do have a malabsorption issue with protein which began after my gall was removed. Malabsorption after gall removal can happen but with protein is unusual.

"her comment to me was that she was so glad to know I had weight loss surgery because I looked like I was dyeing from cancer cancer lol!" Classic example of passive aggressive behavior. I can relate. My mother was obsessive about staying thin. Through my preteen and teen years I would yo-yo between average size to slightly chubby. Within weeks after my youngest child was born, I moved out of state. Two years later I moved back to my hometown. I was thinner than my mother. She would make comments that I was too thin (I wasn't). I was almost 30 and she was in her early 50s. She secretly started abusing diuretics and laxatives to drop pounds in an attempt to be smaller than me. She ended up in the hospital with electrolyte imbalances and deficiencies. Years later, my daughter was battling with about 35 to 40 extra pounds. She asked me to help her with a low carb diet which is how I maintained my weight at 115 to 117 for most of my adult life. She lost the excess weight and I was bragging about my 22 year old daughter's victory to my mother. My 73 year old mother, who was weighing in about140, replied with the most selfish and disgusting comment imaginable...."Great, now I am the only fat one in the family!" I very sharply responded with "That is digusting! Be happy for her. It's her time now." Be prepared.....people who once secretly pitied you, emotionally supported you and openly cheered your success may now feel threatened by the change in the dynamic. My mother's self-worth was so closely tied to being the most svelte of any woman in her circle. When I surplanted her claim to fame, my mother felt assaulted. My daughter's weight loss after my mother's gain was the final blow to her ego. Because of my mother's sabatoging and competitive nature, I chose not to tell her about my choice to undergo VSG.

    Poor loss after surgery!

There are some who are slow losers. Nothing wrong with it. It’s just one of those things. Still extremely frustrating though. At the same time, I think it’s possibly too soon to judge. You are losing & that is always a win. Doesn’t matter if it takes a little longer than you may have hoped to lose your weight. As many say, it’s not a sprint but a (lifelong) marathon. What has your surgeon said or your dietician?
  10. Absolutely, the FDA's approval of Eli Lilly's Zepbound™ (tirzepatide) is a game-changer in weight management! It's the first medication that works on both GIP and GLP-1 receptors, making it a novel addition to obesity treatments. Clinical trials have been impressive, with participants losing an average of 22.5% of their body weight. For many, this could be a transformative non-surgical alternative that might reduce or even eliminate the need for bariatric surgery. That said, it's important to consider the potential side effects, which can be quite serious, as well as its high cost—although Eli Lilly is working to increase accessibility. As this medication rolls out, it could redefine treatment plans, offering a new, potent tool for weight loss both before and after bariatric surgery. It's an exciting time for both patients and healthcare providers in the field of weight management!

Yeah, I've received quite a few comments like "you look so thin you look like a cancer patient" and "you should gain some weight because you will look much younger". I usually reply with "well, I'm the healthiest I've ever been. So given the choice between transitory looks vs great blood tests and regular blood pressure... Etc. I chose life." It goes in one ear and out the other ear and accompanied with a scowl lol, but I say it for myself.
  13. I am 7 weeks out of revision. Things are getting better each day. It took 5.5 weeks before the pain went away. Additionally, I have stalled and lost over these weeks. However, I am at my lowest weight in 8 years. No GERD and no current regrets. I am 53 years old. Sent from my SM-G996U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
  14. Hi all, I made my goal weight! Now I have an appt with my dietician and I need to have all my vitamins ready. I don't think that I have had this situation but many people have not mentioned my weight loss at all. Its odd because I have totally changed from a disabled person to one who can do anything my heart desires.

    Poor loss after surgery!

Most people hit a stall 2 to 3 weeks after surgery. There is also retention after surgery because of the IV. Just keep working your program and the weight will come off. Also note you started at a low weight to begin with, so it may be slower but do speak to your team if you are concern. I like this post I saw on Pinterest once, if you keep working at it you will see the results, good luck!
  17. It is contradictory to label this a victory. Yesterday I was standing beside the porch (approx. height 24"), a gust of wind blew me over onto the porch. Fortunately I was not injured but was "blown away" with shock at the realization I had lost enough weight that non-gale force winds could knock me over. But a true NSV, I now have my thigh-gap back!
  18. I have been open with my weight loss journey with my family from the beginning and they have been amazing but it's been a learning experience all the way around lol. My immediate family and even my mothers whole side of the family are super thin, think size 2 thin. My mother has never been over weight and she was taught growing up that weight was a choice and that over weight people were just lazy. My dads side of the family are all bigger and I took after that side. Since the surgery though my mother has been trying so hard to be supportive and thoughtful and has been amazing but she is still learning. I just saw her for the 1st time after the surgery and her comment to me was that she was so glad to know I had weight loss surgery because I looked like I was dyeing from cancer lol! Anyone else have people with the very best intentions still give you the worst compliments?

    Poor loss after surgery!

If you lost a lot of weight during pre-surgery prep, the post-surgery loss could be less and slower. That was my experience.

Just checking in too! Today is 6 months since I had surgery, around this time I was nervous as heck whole finishing up being prepped. I'm down to 117 kilos, for a total loss of 38 kilos, or 83 pounds. I've lost 24.5% of my starting weight. I'm just 2 kilos away from being halfway to my big goal of reaching 75 kilos. Everything is going well, I've lost every week with no stalls apart from Week 2. So gateful for that! I still need to be better with fluid and definitely need to be more active. My weight loss is very obvious, especially in my tummy, arms and face. Down 3 to 4 dress sizes which is fantastic. @SynleeI how are you going hon? Lindsay, wow! You look incredible, well done! Lipman, you're rocking it as always!
  21. My moment just happened. I have a recurrent abdominal hernia. The general surgeon I met with initially really pounded it in my head that my weight was causing this problem. He ended up referring me to a bariatric specialist surgeon who I see on the 16th after a CT scan of my hernia tonight. That visit will determine how they are going to treat me - surgery to repair the hernia and mesh first or push for WLS. I've been researching like crazy and I'm starting to dream of a life where I'm not diabetic, I don't have sleep apnea and I can go to the thrift store and buy clothes again.

    What was your “Moment” ?

My final FINAL moments were last year. I saw a photo of myself at Thanksgiving, and I resembled a potato. I was round, just like a circle. At that time, when I would sit down, I noticed that the way that my stomach would land on my thighs was only about 5 inches from my knees. I had the distinct thought that the weight gain was going to continue unabated if I did not make a radical life change. First appointment was almost one year ago, and *everything* is SO much better.

10 week post sleeve weight gain?

I am sure they had you on IV fluids, it is water weight. It will pass, don't worry. Weigh yourself less, that helps. Commit to a weighing schedule and try to stick with it. Once a week? Once a month? Even, every day if you need to but if the fluctuation bothers you; I suggest weekly. I weigh myself every Monday, because that was the day I had surgery and the last time I was weighed before surgery. Now that I am basically at my (first) goal I weigh myself more because I am excited to get there. haha Best of luck! I hope you are feeling better Sepsis is no joke!!
