What the heck is wrong with me???
bellabloom replied to Mandybb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Carbs are sliders. There is practically no restriction with those. You've just discovered why many people don't have success with this. I'm sorry you are going through this and I'm sorry to say it may get worse from here. I hope I can help- maybe not now but down the line. The reason you ate those things is because a person and a body can only white knuckle dieting for so long. Our bodies don't like being under fed. Your body took advantage of the situation to get some much needed fuel. You've lost so much so fast- you are in starvation state. That's what your bodies knows. Your body doesn't know you are under feeding it on purpose. I know you will go back to your post beach day diet. That's fine. But if you continue to have this issue I hope you will pm me. I can hopefully help you. -
WOW!! I know exactly what you are saying. I was on 100units of Levermire 2 times a day plus 500mg of Metformin before my RNY. I have been off all of them since early 2014. In January I went in to get my bloodwork done so I could see my Dr afterwards. I got a email that told me my BS was high again, it was 204. When I went to see her I ask her to give me a month. I know I was doing pretty bad with extra carbs. Right afterwards my 1st fasting BS was 163 and has went down every morning. I think I dodged the bullet!! WOW This was the one thing I really wanted to get under control so I was so excited to be off it all. I was told the same thing about Diabetes isn't gone it can pop up at any time. I'm sorry that you are having a hard time. Maybe it will go back in remission. Good Luck

Periods and food
teacupnosaucer replied to Dashofpixiedust8's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's definitely not easy, I totally get you. I have two kids and a husband so I know how you feel not wanting to police what they eat. I try to buy things for them that I know I won't eat. My husband loves strawberry ice cream, I hate it, so it's pretty easy to have ice cream on hand for him. The other thing to consider is (depending on your living situation obviously!) is that just because you don't have something in the house and on hand doesn't mean you're controlling if other people eat it. We don't have pop in the house but my husband is still free to go to McDonalds and buy himself a large coke. I'm not controlling what he eats, only what's in my immediate environment. Obviously this strategy is significantly less useful if you live with adult roommates who buy their own groceries or with someone not willing to compromise the food they bring into the house to help you achieve your goals. But don't assume it won't work prematurely, I guess? Like, if you ask someone might be completely on board and say yes, even if you think they won't. They might surprise you. (They also might not, in which case obviously it's much harder to control your food environment.) Head hunger vs. physiological hunger is hard to decipher. I try to do to myself what I do with my kids. "You're hungry? Do you want an apple? If you're not hungry for an apple you're not really hungry." (Substitute whatever healthy choice you like.) Basically, physiological hunger wants to be fed. Head/heart/mouth hunger are very very specific. Like if I'm thinking "oh I could go for some chips" but I eat some beef jerky and feel satisfied, then that's probably stomach hunger. If I'm thinking "I want chips and I don't want to eat anything else IT HAS TO BE CHIPS"... then to me that is a sure sign it's not physical hunger. The other thing I learned in my emotional eating class is to delay cravings, like physically set a timer for 20 minutes. Make a deal with yourself that if you still want something after 20 minutes, then eat it (within reason obviously) but if you don't... well then, crisis averted lol. Waiting 20 minutes to eat won't alleviate physiological hunger, but delaying a craving may cause the intensity of it to subside, in which case you have your answer. I should find out what the workbook I used is called, maybe you can get it on Amazon or something... it was really helpful to me. -
I was nervous as well I just had my gastric bypass done May 1st. The pre op diet was rough Bc u know u can eat it without issues but u have to not eat it Bc of the surgery. What made it even harder for me was my husband ate whatever he wanted and I couldn't. But also once my surgery was done once I came home and started feeling better as surprised as I was I still was hungry just yet my body didn't want or need food it was all in my head! But as the time goes on u will feel better and it becomes a little easier each day. You can do this stay strong. Keep coming on here a reading ppl stories that helps a lot also. Hope I helped some. Good luck

Approval letter with date
Finding_Stacy replied to jennmonterrozo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My approval date on my acceptance letter was for March 1, 2017, but my surgery was on April 24, 2017--over seven weeks later. From what I understand, with at least my insurance, is that the date on the paper is good for six months afterwards. Edit to add: I have BC/BS of IL -
Healthy Eating on a budget
OutsideMatchInside replied to Krisbell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe she just ordered once with the promo, because hello Fresh is 9.99 per meal per person. So it is $20 a meal. You can eat out for less, especially with a sleeve. One cooked meal for 2 people should cost less than $5. I spent about $5 a day on meat and veggies, and that is kind of stretching it. It is only that high because some days I eat grass fed beef. If I eat pork it is more like $2-3 a day. And I eat at least 16 ounces of meat a day. I have thought about getting one of those subscription boxes, but none of them have low carb options for menus, so they are a waste of money for me. -
I had my bypass surgery 5/3 and was discharched yesterday. It was my first surgery so I didnt know how my body would feel post opp. Day 1 was pain. Day 2 i felt like a balloon. Day 3 i was pain free. I was discharged a day later than planned bc my blood pressure and heart rate were high night 2.. plus my intestines were slow waking up. I still cant believe its done! No regrets so far. I havent needed my diabetes meds since surgery! And no hunger. Sugar free cherry jello taste sooo good now lol. I have no interest in regular food. Im just having trouble drinking enough fluids... i feel full fast.

Good afternoon, I'm 3wks post opt and I scared to eat bc I'm afraid of throwing up. I don't know what to eat. I should be on soft foods but I'm not having any luck. I'm sticking to soups and my protein shakes for now but I'm suppose to be eating soft foods. Any suggestion on where I should start on soft foods.

Sooo I've decided to go through with weight loss surgery and hope to join you all on the journey! I meet with my surgeon tomorrow and I have no idea what to expect. This will be my very first appointment so I believe he's going to just give me the options and go over more of the basic things. (Seminar is the in on the 15th & PCP is seeing me on the 30th) I feel like I'm doing things backwards lol. I've done research for so long so I do know that my insurance covers the surgery and will be requiring a 6 mo supervised diet He'll probably be going over that too, then after I hope to get most, if not all, appointments in between. My ultimate fear is that my insurance denies me. Since I am at a BMI of 40 and have 6 months of diet, I feel that I will drop under 40 and with no comorbidities (that i know of yet) I will not get the surgery. I've done everything I can at this point regarding weight loss and at 21, I have only gained more after all the dieting I have done since Highschool. I'm the heaviest I have ever been and I notice the change in my breathing, I can't stand for long periods of time, and my menstrual cycle comes and goes away for months (no bc) My health is only worsening which is why I'm choosing to go through with this. Love to hear any advice, expectations and/or your experiences... -Cori

Food options
OutsideMatchInside replied to sleever123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@sleever123 You are claiming to be unhappy about your weight loss. If you want help. Tell us what you are eating so we can offer suggestions. I don't care you aren't eating meat but that doesn't mean you can toast and lose weight. There are other sources of protein. You didn't say you were vegetarian or vegan, you just said you don't like meat. So can you eat eggs? cheese? What can and do you eat? @SassyNanny Basically she wasted everyone who even read her original post by whining in the first post about slow weight loss. Then came back to just complain about everyone not patting her on the head and telling her it was okay. Then still didn't even answer any questions about what she is eating. This is why people don't respond to posts or try to help people. This kind of entitled BS. -
Is it Possible that a person isnt meant to be skinny?
OutsideMatchInside replied to Chaelove0810's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First of all at 5'4 and 165 you won't be skinny or anything close to it. Everyone is so damn fat in America, people don't even know what legit skinny even looks like. Big boned is a myth, yeah some people might have slightly larger frames but big bones is BS. My bones are 3x denser than the average woman my age and they still barely weigh anything, and they look TINY on a DEXA scan. they are covered in fat and muscle. Big bone is just lie people tell themselves and others to justify obesity. Just because the weight is harder to lose or slower coming off doesn't mean you aren't meant to lose it or you can't lose it. You are barely one year out from surgery. It will probably take you another 6 months or so to lose the rest if you keep eating right. People need to think about their general health and wellness. The way insurance is going right now, those few extra pounds can cost you a lot in insurance premiums in the future. Everyone should be striving to get to a normal BMI at this point. And just because you are smaller doesn't mean you won't have curves. I have lost an entire grown man in weight and I still have enough titties for 3 broads and I have hips, thighs and a butt. Slim thick is really a thing. People need to stop kidding themselves. You will never be this young ever again in life. Go for your goal, go for it hard. It is never going to be this easy to lose weight ever again. -
Hi ladies, PCOS here too and just had the sleeve done 19 days ago. I was diagnosed really late at 24years old, only symptom I had was growing a better beard than Santa and inability to get pregnant. I do have a daughter who's now 2 and a half, no idea how she's here as we were told it would never happen (FU PCOS). Anyway, my consultant OB is a leading researcher in Scotland for PCoS and she advised me of this when I told her I was getting sleeved In the first year work your ass off, get as much weight off as possible and start routines of building up sex life. The more weight you lose the better your fertility is, and that goes for partners as well - even if they are slightly overweight it can affect males too. At the one year mark I have to go back to her and get a full battery of tests done and stop all BC - should take within 6 months to get pregnant after that. Oh the joys of pcos! Barrett's & MGB
Seattle WLS Newbie replied to flyingcarb's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
First week was rough with lots of gas pain. Luckily no nausea, but the gas pain made drinking difficult. Started feeling significantly better each day heading into week 2. The biggest struggle for me now is fatigue and getting in my liquids/ protein shakes bc I don't feel thirsty. I never explored getting a MGB, just went with the laparoscopic RnY Bypass. -
Surgery soon
robs_vsg_journey replied to mzlil2cool's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand everything that you're going through. I've struggled with my weight all my life. I'm turning 30 this year and I told myself I need to make a change before I turn 30. So I'm doing it. People don't understand what we go through because they haven't been in our position. My dad doesn't agree with my surgery but he's still somewhat supportive bc he knows it's what I want. He thinks I could just lose it on my own without it but that's easier said than done. I know your struggle and I'm here for you if you need someone to talk to. Fortunately the weight loss community is an excellent support system when you don't have anyone else to turn to. -

THANK YOU!!! I have a whole list of things that it treats, and the "munchies" can be just as enjoyable w a HEALTHY food choice. one of my go-to's is cheese chips. there are times when smoking was the ONLY way I could tolerate eating that day (ya, my choice was either smoke, and eat, or don't smoke and don't eat for 3 more days bc of severe nausea). its not the taboo thing lots of people make it out to be. its NOT a gateway drug, its NOT addictive. a drug, yes, bc it alters ur state of mind, but you cant OVERDOSE on smoking too much mj. its the stigma. I mean when ur choice is have a panic attack, or smoke a bowl, I choose bowl... I just don't know if thc will stay in my system even longer then normal bc of the fat burning thing. -

If the Feds aren't going to legalize they should at least reschedule. A schedule 1 prohibits research and controlled study. There is so much qualitative data to support the medical benefits....now we need the hard data. the scheduling is tied to this country's racist history (which continues today)...We need to get over ourselves and look for at it from an objective science based approach. /end rant. -
first off, if you don't smoke, then I don't need your opinion. period I am a regular pot smoker. ive recently quit, because I have been expecting a drug test (for a job) but wasn't expecting everything to happen quite as quickly as it did... the last time I smoked was april 25th. ive heard that thc is stored in the fat cells, which I have been burning at a relatively quick pace. well, I got a call today, informing me that my drug test will be on the 10th. I know for NORMAL people, it usually takes about 30 days to clean your system... but is it different for wls patients, bc we burn fat cells quicker? is there a way I can QUICKLY clean my system in the next 5 days? as I mentioned earlier, I was told the process for this job would take much longer then it did, and now I'm stuck, but I NEED this job. PLEASE HELP!!!!

BCBS FEP approval experience please!
Jencol replied to Keenikwe's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hmmm I'm BCBS Fed and I'm just beginning this journey. I told the patient coordinator I have Hashimotos and she didn't say a word. So that could be grounds for denial? -
I'll be going on vacation with some old friends and it "coincidentally" is planned for when my doctor allows alcohol. So my question is, what should I drink that will be less likely to make me sick?! I WILL be having one drink or at least most of one. I've heard to stay away from margaritas/mixed drinks Bc of the sugar making people feel sick. I've heard wine gives heartburn. I've heard beer or any liquor mixed with soda just hurts. So what does that leave me to try?!

Diabetes Type 2 - Gastric Sleeve Pre Op
AngieK72 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just wondering if anyone had any problems keeping their BS below 200 prior to surgery. I had my pre-op phone call with the anesthesiologists office yesterday and the lady told me my sugar MUST be below 200. It's a crap shot honestly with my blood sugar in the morning. I can not eat anything the night before and my sugar will be 250 or even higher then on other days will be like 120-140. I'm stressing a little about this. -
This is what the US government says an average size 8 year old should be eating. I got average size from here. https://www.babycenter.com/0_your-childs-size-and-growth-timeline_10357633.bc https://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/interactiveDRI/ See the problem?
