Five months out and exhausted
hermione53 replied to hermione53's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Also meant to add that I don't want to stop Keto bc it really helps reduce cravings. -
Just a suggestion: if you're really over drinking them, you could stop the order and give what you've got to a food pantry. Lots of elderly people need protein like that. My state hasn't approved Insure providing shakes even though I'm pretty sure I'd get covered. I'm hoping it gets approved soon bc I drink shakes 1-2 times a day. I'd hate to think that part of the hold up in concern over people abusing the prescription.

Hello everyone! I'm five months post-op and have lost 55 pounds. My goal is to lose 10 pounds a month over the next three months if I can during the "honeymoon" period. I'm currently eating keto (high fat/ low carb/ meeting or exceeding protein goals) with an average of 1100 calories a day. I'm shooting for 1000 but 1100 has been the average for two weeks. I'm keeping paper food logs in addition to tracking in My Fitness Pal as part of new mindful eating therapy. On paper I also track when I eat, where I eat, my hunger level, cravings, and what the circumstances and feelings are. My therapist noticed that I wrote repeatedly how tired I felt even on days when I'd slept well the night before. Every two weeks I also have had something of a binge day (1500-2000 calories, usually high carb). The therapist told me that I'm exhausted and spiking with calories/ carbs like this because I'm eating too little and am going too many hours without eating. I eat three meals and a snack every day and am hitting my macros, particularly the protein. On that I range from 65-100 grams, usually landing at around 75 grams. Questions for you: is feeling so tired at this point normal? Is 1100 calories too low at 5 months? I'm in my late 40s and am 5'4". I haven't been exercising as much bc I'm so drained at the end of the day. I get in an average of 6,000 steps a day when I had been hitting 10-12,000 and eating about 1300-1400 calories a day. The therapist is encouraging me to tune in to what my body wants and eat what it wants, but I've always had a hard time knowing what it wants vs what I crave.

Weight related problems you didn't know about
QTR-nevermore replied to Jordan Flake's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My pedigree goes back through Anna Flake. Funny thing... one year I was at the reunion and I saw Aunt Gerda in some theater for some event. She had fed me homemade ice cream sandwiches out of her freezer when I was little, so I remembered her fondly and went up to say hello. At my salutation she drew herself up starchily, and asked down her nose, "who are you?" I repeated my name, but she was not impressed. I thought a second, then said "I'm Anna's granddaughter." That did it. She beamed and enfolded me to her bosom with joy like a long-lost child. Family. Flake family. Interesting. Anyway, is your first name William? I love that repeating name. Re your question, I had my surgery through the center that was running a medical research study I was involved in in my state, so I got a bit of a break on the price. It worked well. -
May 15th, 2017 Sleevers Check in Here!!!
Apple1 replied to Newme17's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@Sweet as peaches I would say yes! I expected to feel worse than I have. I think I was mentally preparing myself for the worst. The first day was rough because I hate feeling nauseous and throwing up, but everyday since I have been feeling better and better. I think for me the greatest thing is the hope of my diabetes going into remission. It is early yet to claim victory since I am only on clear liquids, but since day 2 my bs haven't gone above 115. -
6 months out. Having similar issues. A1c is now 4.5 I eat about every 3 hours lowest my bs dropped was 22 amazing I was still conscious. I had low bs back in middle and high school before diabetes in my 20s. l always eat something with whole grain or plain oatmeal before I walk extensively, cut grass, yard work, vigorous exercise. Per dr orders. About 1/2 piece toast or 1/4 cup oatmeal. If not I have cold sweats dizzy sugar crash then headaches. Sigh.

I am I crazy for considering surgery
Apple1 replied to Apple1's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Today I am three days post op and I wanted to come back to this thread , my first on this sight, and answer my own question. No I was not crazy for considering surgery and having it done in Mexico with Bariactric Pal. My experience thus far has been amazing. Everyone has been very nice and has taken such good care of my husband and I. I am feeling better everyday and I know I made the best decision. I have not taken any of my medication for type 2 diabetes and my bs has been completely normal so far. -
Help! I ate a whole Pizza. How??
Please replied to wlsfeb2017's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We can't always hear good things....if you eat a whole pizza and tell people, they are gonna be shocked, it doesn't mean they are judging...they are full of wonder....how it fit in your new stomach, why didn't you change your mind from ordering it to eating it ( lots of time to think) . You knew to hide the box....saying "it's okay or You got this" is BS , obviously she doesn't got this. It just makes other people think it's okay to do it too! no matter how much coucelling you do or therapy, it still comes down to what you want and you choices. -
Not going to apologize for being vain
CocoNina replied to ryan_86's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For me, I was fed up with being obese. I am already healthy so the surgery was for prevention. But of course vanity is part of it too. I wasn't always obese, only the past 9 years, I missed my old sexy self & I want to look hot for my man too & not cover up during sex since I was so insecure being big. Height: 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Surgery date: 2/13/17 Goal: -71 lbs for healthy BMI (about 145 lbs). Current weight: 165.6 lbs My profile picture is not me. It's my "FITspiration" body. -
Did anyone receive a card to order from kid menu?
hermione53 replied to Rita48's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I got one post-op but haven't used it. One restaurant has grilled fish and broccoli on the kids' menu (alongside the typical kid junk food), but I realized that it's more cost-efficient to order the adult grilled fish with two full sized vegetables bc I get about three meals out of it. I got a similar card when I first got a lap band and even had it laminated. I never used that one, either. It was a strange little card that even had a diagram of a banded stomach on it. The most asinine way of choosing my surgeon...
Véronique replied to Véronique's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only YouTube video I could find was this one from the Vein and Laser Centre of Northern Colorado... I think it's the same guide, his bio as he describes it hits so many points with his bio on the Northern Colorado Surgical Associates website. Apart from that, I could find no YouTube channel for Northern Colorado Surgical Associates, nothing comes up when you search that in YouTube in quotation marks. And considering how short this video is, this is kind of a bust. I've phoned the nurse line for the surgical practice this morning because I have a few other questions anyway (i.e. what is the pre-op diet and something a nutritionist said to me about how bariatric surgery has to manipulate hormones in order to lose weight, which I think is BS but I want to see if there is any truth to this claim), so might as well ask if and when they phone back. -
Bypass n sleeve take around 1.5-2 hours then at my hospital my pts stay in PACU for about an hour so like 4-5 hours about for whole ordeal. Everyone gets a catheter...something I'm not happy about...but every pt says they were glad after bc they didn't feel up to going to bathroom first day bc of drugs

What to tell boss about surgery in June?
ashleey921 replied to Terri70's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You dont have to go into specifics about what kind of surgery you are having because most people really dont and wont understand it. But I would def let him know that you do have surgery coming up because June/July will be here sooner than later. And if need be you can explain to him that, that is the reason for why you have been taking off so much, I didnt want to tell my boss either and I didnt go into specifics but I did finally let him know bc I was taking off so much for appointments and he became suspicious like I was looking for another job or somethin lol which I didnt want him to think. Just tell him, it may not be as bad as u think and a weight will be lifted. -
Is it Possible that a person isnt meant to be skinny?
Sosewsue61 replied to Chaelove0810's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is a lot we don't know regarding genetics, but we have to use what we do know. We do know processed food is an issue and consuming it leads to cravings and less satisfaction and poor health. Back in the 1960's we did not have this proliferation of processed food and the people/workplace were less sedentary. There were still obese people but not even half as many as now. And I only remember 5 kids in elementary school that had a weight issue, now I see very heavy kids, plus slightly overweight kids in the majority. It starts in the home, and a parent has the opportunity to control most of it if they have the information and willingness to do so. The impediment to this is misinformation fed to us by the latest 'study' on nutritional guidelines totally skewed by many factors. I believe we can all be a healthy weight but not easily if it has been messed up since childhood. I believe we have different shapes and frames, but you can clearly see fat on those shapes and frames if it is there. The 'normal' natural weight people I know do not overeat and are not food obsessed - do not get anxious about when or what they are going to eat, do not eat like it is their last meal on earth and stop when they are full. -
What is everyone else eating?
