    bypass revision

I'm not sure if there's a WLS solution for heartburn in your case since you've already had bypass - that's usually the revision they recommend for sleeve for those sleevers who have severe heartburn (i.e. sleeve to bypass). Although maybe there's some other type of surgery (non-WLS- related) they can do for that?? Not sure. the only "revision" they can do for bypass is tightening the stoma, but I've read mixed reviews of that. And I've heard the same as the above poster - people usually lose about 20 lbs with that. as for insurance coverage, some policies will cover revisions if they're done for medical reasons (GERD is one - but then, you've already had bypass, but again, maybe there's some GERD specific medical treatment out there? Not sure). I don't think many policies, if any, would cover it for weight gain. I'd talk to your PCP or a bariatric surgeon. I don't know what your options are since you've already had bypass. Sorry you're going through this - GERD is awful!!

    bypass revision

So, I am thinking of revision too. I think for insurance (overall) you can get it if you get heart burn/ulcer, or had significant weight gain, which I think 40 pounds would cover it. Or if you never got to your goal weight. I wouldn't suggest gaining weight. the most common revision which is just tightening the pouch and stoma, typically people lose like 20 pounds with that. Are you thinking of like a more malabsorption gastric bypass or duodenal switch?
  4. hello there, i had gastric bybass 8 years ago. Now i am struggling on feeling full. I am hungry all the time. I have gained 40 lbs and i have terrible heartburn. I want a revision. Has anyone gotten approved for a REVISION bybass?? that can help .....what is it that i have to do to get a REVISION. I don't want to regain all my weight back
  5. I had my arms and a fleur de lis TT revision about a year ago. The scars on my stomach are fading to a light pink and some spots are almost skin color. My arm scars are still a very dark pink and are wider than the scar on my stomach. I know with time they will fade more but does anyone else have some areas that faded much faster than others? The plastic surgeon did a steroid injection a few weeks ago to an area on my belly because it was raised. It's been 6 weeks and it has helped so I am thinking if I should have more areas on my arms injected. I know we are not supposed to have any steroids after WLS but the plastic surgeon said the dose is less than 1% of what an oral steroid would be. Still, my skin gets really thin from steriod injections so I don't want to do an injection if not necessary. Old scars I have are all faded but they are 10-20 years old so I don't know if my arms will eventually fade as well or if I will be stuck with pink scars long term. Any thoughts or opinions?

    Revision

I had my surgery the Rouen Y in 2003 I’m doing good but I am getting older and I think that’s why I feel like I’m gaining. Not sure what the revision is all about I was told I may need one but if it’s not something I truly need I’m good the way I am. Thank you for your response

    Revision

I’m considering a revision but am doing intermittent fasting for a few months and returning to the eat Protein first basics before I decide. Fasting worked well with my sleeve until Covid, antidepressants and menopause did a triple wammy regain-wise. Very frustrating since I’m 10 years out. I plan to use fasting for maintenance regardless, just thinking that greater restriction would be nice to have. Interesting to hear what others are considering.

That I'm not sure of. I paid cash for my sleeve and am paying cash for my revision surgery.

    Revision completed

Hey, @Tracyringo I was sleeved on 9/11/18. Lost about 120 pounds then got pregnant and started suffering from serve reflux and lost restriction. I am scheduled for a revision to bypass on 3/29/21. I would love to talk to you about your experience with revision. I am now about 70 pounds heavier than my lowest weight and am dead set to make this a success. Any tips or words of wisdom?

    Gastric Sleevr Vs. Bypass

313 was my top weight, 307 on my first appt with the Surgeon in Dec 2019 and I was 293 on my surgery day Aug 24th, I'm only 5 ft 3 5" had a Bmi of like 53 and a waist of 59 inches, My waist now (20 weeks later is 41 inches). I chose the R&Y because I wanted the most restrictions and requirements possible, the extra accountability that comes with the stricter reginine of supplements for life, low fat and no sugar. Dumping syndrome is AWFUL!! its nausea, the cold sweats, upset stomach etc like a sudden flu that happens in minutes. It happens if u have too much sugar, Fat or just too much food in your stomach, especially with fluid and then it goes through faster than it should. The 30/30 rule is for real! I also felt in all my research and my surgeon agreed that my GERD (acid Reflux) and my EOE Eociniphilic Esophogitus (Spontaneous regurgitating) would both be better with the R&Y. Gerd can get worse with the sleeve. They were right and my Gerd is gone and I no longer need meds for it either. I'm down 68 lbs since surgery and I'm 100% confident I made the right choice for me. I also Didn't want to go through a revision of sleeve to Bypass if it didn't work well enough for me. I have lost and gained 100 lbs multiple times in my life and I never wanna go through it again. I need the stricter food guidelines for my progress, the accountability and responsibility keeps me on track. Not 1 item with real sugar in it since 2 weeks before surgery. Fruit is my only real sugar and I am careful to eat very small portions of low sugar fruits like berries and some green apple. I put pyure sugar sub on things that need it but thats rare as things do taste sweeter. You really have to make the decision that's best for your individual wants, needs and preferences. I had a lot of pain post op, I did have my Galbladder out too tho so I have 9 incision scars instead of the 5 most ppl have. It took a few hours for the nurses to get my pain under control and I had some pain for first few weeks at home. Then suddenly it was gone. I also rejected no less that 2 dissolving stitches from 5 of my incisions, this has happened to me before with other surgeries. I would do it all over again tho.

    Time off work

I was a revision sleeve to bypass. For the bypass I took 3 weeks off work (though my job is fairly active - aged care).
  13. Hi! I am new to this forum. I got my lapband in 2013. My starting weight was 280lbs and I am about 5'3". In the first year I lost 95 pounds and was down to 185lbs. I never had a fill as my doctor never recommended one. In the last 4 years I have shot back up to 225lb as menopause had set in and I started to lag going to the doctor which was no help. I am now 56 years old and can't seem to budge even a couple of pounds off. I have moved out of the state where I had the procedure years ago and had a consult with the local general/bariatric surgeon about 10 months ago. He agreed to remove the lapband and do a revision to bypass. I met remotely with the bariatric nurse and participated in the orientation zoom meeting. I went for my first weigh in as I was told I would have to start from scratch and in the program and work with a doctor or dietitian for 6 months before they would get approval for the surgery which Iwas more than willing to do. I was turned off by the nurses attitude as she never answered my calls to guide me in the right direction to get started so I gave up on the idea. I feel stuck, depressed and frustrated and I don't know where to turn. My insurance has changed and I can't seem to find a doctor to help me. Thanks for listening. When you say you are hungry all the time, do you mean that you don't have restriction? If you eat a protein rich like, say, a chicken breast or a small steak - does that still leave you hungry? Or do you mean you feel head hunger all the time? If you actually feel physically hungry even after eating enough to fill your pouch, then that may be an issue around the restriction. But if it's head hunger, I can certainly relate. The drivers for my eating are rarely actual hunger and often boredom, stress etc. The problem is that this messes up our bodies' ability to recognise the difference between actual hunger and head hunger. I don't know a huge amount about the bypass surgery or any revision surgery, but I think they're unlikely to address the more fundamental issues you might have with food and how you eat.

    Time off work

I can't say about a revision. However, as a first-time Bypasser I originally took two weeks off (from a desk job). I went back on Monday of the third week and was so exhausted I left at noon and took another week off.
  16. Hi, I’m new and I’m have revision from sleeve to bypass upon approval. Can you share how soon you think you went back to work?

    Revision

Wow that is awesome!!!! Thanks for responding. I’m in debates my insurance denied my revision and I’m thinking about hiring an advocate agency to help me fight it. But before I pay them money I’m trying to see how beneficial it will be. I’ve heard different stories about revisions and I would love to check in with you and see how your progress is going if you don’t mind. That sounds exactly what my revision would be if I get it. Thanks again and congrats on your journey

    Revision

I had a revision done on 1/11/21, MD made pouch smaller and did a distal bypass lengthening the common channel to 250 cm. I am still on liquids at this point but have lost 10 lbs. I was on a liver reduction diet 2 weeks prior to surgery and lost 17 lbs on that. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app
  19. My revision took over 5 hours as well. My doctor said I had a lot of scar tissue. The sleeve the first time only took him 45 minutes. He says this is somewhat common for it to happen. I had lots of post op complications as well. Ive lost a lot though so aside from being nauseas all the time the weight loss was markedly better this time around.
  20. Hi everyone: I know that it may take some time for people to respond but I keep going to the doctor to complain but its not helping. In 2015 I had the sleeve but after losing 50 pounds, within 5 years I gained it all back. In July 2020 I had the bypass. I'm down over 110 pounds which is amazing. The problem is that I'm finding that even foods, that I originally could eat after surgery, I now can't eat. Almost everything I eat makes me nauseous or I get sick. I'm literally dependent on protein shakes and quest bars as my only source of viable nutrition. I was prescribed zofran but so far that hasn't helped at all. Did anyone else have similar experiences? Any guidance, thoughts, tricks or food suggestions would be appreciated. I really have found that all natural proteins make me sick. Thanks, Phil

    Plastic Surgery Countdown is on!

I took my drains out last night-what a relief! I’ll be putting on my faja today for the first time-excited to see how my waist looks in it. Will post an update pic after my shower today. My TT, breast, and right arm incisions are looking good. I had a little complication during surgery. When my surgeon started to suture up my left arm my hand started turning dusky-meaning it wasn’t getting good circulation. He ended up leaving about a 3 inch open wound to allow for swelling. It will heal, but will need a scar revision at some point. I’m dressing it each day and it seems to be doing ok so far.

    Revision due to GERD

I'm in the same situation with sleeve in 2013 and now surgeon is suggesting a revision to bypass or LINX to help with the severe GERD. However, they strongly recommend bypass so I'm here to do all the research I can on the experience others have had with similar situations. Would love to have the GERD gone and weight loss would be nice but terrified that bypass will actually be way more painful than I am expecting and have worse side effects like weight gain and dumping and maybe I should just deal with the GERD. Feeling really confused and hoping this forum helps me come to terms with a decision.
  23. Foxbins

    Doc gave me 2 options

I had a sleeve with GERD too, and my surgeon in the first appointment had LINX as an option. Having read about the trouble lapbanders have, with esophageal erosion and slippage and other nasty complications I was not enthusiastic about a foreign body being placed around my esophagus. It turned out I was not a LINX candidate due to other conditions so I revised to bypass.

    Revision due to GERD

I had the revision on 1/11. I have not lost any weight but I have no heartburn or puking. I was more sore then anything. I can drink normal, in fact I feel like I could eat or drink whatever. I haven’t but I can take drinks of water without any issues and water was a huge problem for me.

    Revision due to GERD

Hi there - I had the same issue and am just coming off the revision from sleeve (11/2017), which we did due to the fact that I had terrible GERD. I had my surgery on 1/12/2021, and I’m struggling with nausea. My physician says I have to figure out my new anatomy and not drink too fast, but I’m so crazy thirsty its so hard not to constantly obsess about my next sip of water. I pray every day that my swelling goes down and my body will allow me to intake these fluids, however it’s been rough. I’m interested to watch your journey, as it seems similar to mine.
