SEPTEMBER 2014 POST-OP SLEEVERS CHECKING IN!
aloudwhisper replied to Rovobay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks so much for taking the time to respond to me. I plan to maintain my workouts. More so to make sure that I am consistent. I think that is one of the main reasons I am on this see-saw. I am trying to work on being consistent with logging my food on my fitness pal. And I will do better to focus on my NSV. Thanks so much. -
How about some NSVs!?!?
Febi135 replied to shyanne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am getting my hair braided, and as all my sista's out there know I'll be here for hours. Every time I sit in a chair like this, for hours I dream of this moment of comfort, and now it is here! My NSV is that I'm sitting in a hair salon with my legs crossed enjoying this iPad comfortably in this uncomfortable salon chair. I'm leaning to side a bit so I'm not 100% there yet, but this still so exciting!! No one here knows how excited I am about this on the inside. I do not know the stylists here very well so I'm not gonna tell them, but I had to tell someone, so I choose you, my BariatricPal's. Yay me! -
Finally I weight less than my husband!

January Newbies ! Progress ?
jasjulesmom replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a great NSV. My daughters class was going on a trip and I was a chaperone. We ordered shirt for the group and I ordered myself a large. Which is a huge victory in itself. The day the shirts came she brought mine home and told me that mine was one of the only large shirts and everyone else was either an XL or 2XL. I couldn't be happier. I wore it for the trip yesterday and it was even a bit big. Loving my sleeve. Down 95 lbs since 1/16. 35 more to goal. -
Best POSSIBLE NSV: I keep shaking my head and saying "I can't see it!" when people tell me how much they can tell I've lost. Today DH was hugging me and said, 'Oh, yeah -- look how much farther my arms go around you now!!' As he turned me to look in the mirror! I think I might get someone to snap THAT shot for my Before and After photos....I like using him for my 'tape measure'!!! Nana<----still DOESN'T SEE IT, but can't seem to lose that silly grin today!

FUN NSV - Now when I sit down and look down, I can actually see my navel!!! I no longer have that gi-normous spare tire blocking my view. Does anyone else have some fun non-scale victories to share?
-
I went to the drs. yesterday and realized, while sitting in the waiting room, that my butt didn't fill the entire seat. Then, while at my sister's house, my butt didn't fill her entire seat either. YEAH!!! I love love love NSVs! Oh, and I lost enough weight that the dr. will consider doing something that he wouldn't do 70lbs ago....Best day ever!!! Rain

Congratulations, those are great NSV! I noticed yesterday I can run up and down the steps to the basement with no problems, and it made me realize the same thing. It's wonderful to be able to move so much easier, and it is life changing and liberating! -
Who is scheduled for Jan 8th? I'm getting nervous
2013newme replied to 2013isit's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just had to share a fabulous NSV... I saw a co-worker today that I hadn't seen in over a month or so....she said, "wow - you look fantastic - like 10 years younger" Yay me!!! It's funny, because I look in the mirror and see ALOT more wrinkles as I lose the fat in my face - but evidently that's not what others are seeing! It certainly boosted my confidence today and made me go for those 12k steps that I was going to put off today :-)!!! -

NSV- I have started using the app couch to 5k (c25k). I ran/ walked 2 miles today. My miles were under 16 min each. :-) Fay, I hear you about the hair EVERYWHERE. It's crazy--thinking about it and having a coat for the winter made with it. Ok, not really but jeez!!! -
NSV today! I fit into an XL top and bottom! I can't remember the last time I could. I am so happy!!

I've done so myself many times, however, don't fret over a scale reading. It's a poor measurement of success anyway. As previously mentioned, strive for a better body composition by improving your body fat percentage. If after several weeks you have no progress on the scale or with NSV's, then it's time to make an assessment because you've likely reached your energy balance equilibrium and are stalled out. Don't get too hung up on the “muscle weighs more than fat” rationality though either. Yes, gram for gram that's true, however, most bandsters trying lose weight have a prolonged calorie deficit – and the odds of adding muscle while in a prolonged deficit is nil. I too have a bowflex that I use as one tool in my exercise routine! Brad

There were many reasons for me choosing WLS in the first place, and the biggest drive force was for me to be able to conceive, have a healthy pregnancy, and deliver a healthy baby without the complications of obesity during pregnancy. I've been waiting 3 long weeks to share this news with all of you, and am happy to report I AM PREGNANT ! ! ! After 14 long, exhausting, and emotionally draining months, I'm finally pregnant. I am considered high risk for several reasons, and VSG does throw me into that category along with other medical issues I have which are NOT related to VSG at all. I have an idiopathic clotting disorder and the cause, reason is still unknown. We do know that I am missing certain Protein factors in my platelets, but other than that, they can not pinpoint the cause or even give it a name hence the "idiopathic". We know the treatment is similar to that of Von Willebrand's disease, but all of my work ups have been negative for VW factor. It's kind of crazy, and I have a feeling I will be having more lab work due to the disorder and pregnancy. I have that "mother's intuition" that we are pulling for Team Blue, and if all goes well, I will have a repeat c-section and tubal ligation since I will be 35 yrs old a month after the baby is delivered. My husband is elated, overjoyed, and of course stressed. He's become the food police all over again, and worries that I am not eating enough. BUT, per the recommendations, I am getting enough calories/protein/carbs currently. They expect me to gain 25-30lbs during the pregnancy, and I kind of snickered at that thought process, but I am not saying it won't happen. I've never read any WLS patient gaining that much post-WLS except band patients. So, we'll see how the weight gain goes. Thus far, I am experiencing sore boobs, crazy food cravings for anything spicy, and fatigue. I have experienced zero morning sickness and for that I am very grateful. I've been cleared to continue my Celebrate multi, b12, and Calcium. The formulation of these Vitamins actually exceed the values of any prenatal on the market, and my labs looked stellar except for my platelets were low normal (which is normal for me). Today was my first ultrasound appointment. I knew the day we conceived "Little Sprout", and had the due date spot on. Everything was perfect, strong, steady heartbeat at 150bpm, everything looked good internally. I'm being referred to a civilian high-risk ob/gyn team and my pregnancy will be co-managed between them and the base provider. All this means is that I'll have double appointments that most pregnant women have to go through. Sorry for the quality. The base equipment is a bit dated, but we were able to hear the heartbeat, and of course I cried. My husband was able to attend, and he just stood there staring at the screen kind of in awe. It was truly the most joyous event I've experienced. Thank you for all of your continued support and encouragement. I would ask that you keep our family in your thoughts and prayers. This is going to be a long process, and Sprout is due November 5th. This place is kind of like my 2nd home so I'm sure I'll be posting more updates as the months progress. . Oh and I don't have much of a belly bump at all yet. I'm bloating, but my clothes are fitting the same, and I have not gained any weight to date. I'm not any hungrier than I was before pregnancy, just insane cravings for random foods I would not have eaten. It'll be interesting to see how I look this pregnancy. I was around 200lbs when I was pregnant with my son 13 yrs ago, and gained 37lbs so I was just huge and round. This time I'm interested to see how my body changes, and hopefully I'll get the cute baby bump that I see on everyone else.

We are 772.4 lbs from our collective goal. I have seen quite a few posts about stalls and frustrations etc so just know – we have all been there and we are all rooting for you! You can do anything you set your mind to – and remember – the scale is just a number… I know I personally have a hard time remembering that. I did my weigh in for 6/27 on 6/27 and met my goal for the challenge and I was super excited. I weighed on Friday and I was up 2.6 pounds. It made me upset, but it gave me pause to re-examine what I was eating differently or exercising differently – or come to a decision I was in a stall – Well – I ate off diet a few days when i went back and reviewed – so that was a wake up call – and helped me go back on track – I have decided to look for NSVs (non scale victories) while I get back to weight loss. And yesterday I was able to do a new walk/run path with hills (and running) on it that I had been avoiding and I am SUPER PROUD of myself for that small accomplishment. Before my surgery in March I would have been exhausted just looking at the hill. So for all of you in a slump or perhaps will be a little off after the 4th of July holiday – Keep in mind that it a marathon not a sprint and you are AMAZING just for starting the race in the first place! Have a great and healthy week! @goplay94123 -
Rootman, I'm with you. I fly nearly every week and when I see a larger person coming down the isle, I think "that was me a year ago". I have a lot more empathy for larger people though. At 6'4" and also within "spitting" distance of 200 lbs, my latest NSV was putting on 32 inch waist pants, something I hadn't done since my wife and I were married 35 years ago. It's a fantastic journey and I'm going to make sure that it will never happen to me again.

Is anyone having success and enjoying their banded life?
chasingadream replied to Kitt3000's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The band is amazing and like many others have said it is no magic cure! It takes work and commitment…as does most good things in life! I am one year out and down 93 lbs. I have had no fills and no stuck episodes. Everyone is different and needs to make their own path down this journey. There are no comparisons of how much one person lost over another or how much they have in their band or whether you are walking around the block or doing a 5K. You MUST do whats works for you, in conjunction with your doctor and their protocol. This is not a sprint to the end…it is a marathon….and in my opinion, anyone who is trying to only sprint their way to goal is going to feel bad about so many things. Enjoy every pound off of you when the scale moves down…if the scale isn't moving don't cry PLATEAU feel how your clothes fit. See how much more energy you have …see what other NSV's (non-scale victories) you can see BESIDES just the number on the scale. Don't get me wrong…seeing that number go down, down , DOWN is awesome and what WE ALL WANT….but it isn't going to move down every day or every week…its just not always going to happen. I don't even read the negative nellies on here anymore…and its one of the reasons Im on here less and less…it is sad but true….sometimes those people get the best of you no matter how hard you try. Best of luck to all…we ALL deserve the BEST! -

July 2021 Surgery People!
Maribelle76 replied to Sammys_VSG_Evolution's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgery was on 7/13, and I had my first day back at work as a teacher today. It went really well, and I didn't run out of energy even though we went from 7:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. (open house). I think it helped that I was prepared with plenty of foods and I ate a few times. We had a staff luncheon and I was a little worried what people might say because I haven't told most of them about the surgery. I ended up putting more on my plate than I plan to eat, and I slowly ate a small portion of those things. Nobody seemed to notice. One more exciting thing for me: I went shopping for some new school clothes yesterday and I had to keep bringing back the bigger sizes for smaller ones! I got a couple of pairs of pants that were 14s and a few 16s and some shirts that were either XL or 1XL. The scale doesn't move very rapidly for me, so it was nice to see this NSV. I hope everybody else is doing well and getting back into the swing of things! -
I was sleeved 1-23-14 one week is not a stall trust me I thought that too and people with more time told me the same now that I'm 6 months out and have had no movement of the scale in a month This is a stall very frustrating but the "vets" told me it happens and to look at measurements and non scale victories and soon the stall would break I have seen my measurements come down still and I've had a couple NSV Hang in there you guys we are all gonna make it through this
