    Full?

perhaps the potatoes are a slider food for you. My NUT recommended adding unflavored protein powder to the potatoes. That might help you feel some fullness, otherwise, maybe try something else a bit more nutritious, like yogurt, or cottage cheese.

    June 25th!

Yes, today I have had 4 oz Protein drink, 4 oz yogurt, 4 oz milk, and several oz of diet V8 Splash and Water. I still have quite a bit to go, but taking it very slowly. Hope you rest well!
  3. I had my surgery 4/22 and am not 4 days post opp. My NUT said I can have yogurt, cream soups, pudding, cottage cheese and shakes. So....they also say not to drink 30 minutes before and after a meal. But I'm drinking all day. Does that apply to this liquid phase too?
  4. My surgeon allowed up to 8 oz of juice during the first 2 weeks of the liquid diet but after that we couldn't drink our calories. I would try some Torani SF syrups. Also, you could try protein powder in Crystal Lite or stirred into Greek yogurt. Good in Greek Yogurt with some PB2 (powdered peanut butter) and a little milk to thin it out.

    Exercise and Hunger

This is kind of funny because after I swim (1 hour) I am starving! My mother who also swims actually feels less like eating. Shrug. So I always plan to eat afterwards. Not sure if others will disagree (only have had one fill so no restriction) but before I eat I have a drink of water. I then eat my meal. Since I don't have restriction I usually feel like I could eat more (my doctor says 3 oz protein, 1/4 veggie, 1/4 startch). You might want to have a go to snack that after you've eaten and then waited 10 minutes that you can have if you are still ravenously hungry. Here are some thoughts grilled chicken, cheese stick, veggie, fruit. I live alone so I have the option of just not buying foods that I should'nt be eating. A greek yogurt with fruit would also only be about 160 calories which would be better than the cookies. Also how about sugar free pops?
  6. Hi Eveyrone! Okay, had my surgery on August 6th and tomorrow I get to start eating things like eggs, yogurt, refried Beans, etc. I can also eat baby food but YUCKO...that is just not for me. I believe I am on this for a week or so and then move to soft foods and then normal foods at abour 4 weeks out. The day I began my liquid diet I was 311 per my scales. On surgery date I was 299 and today, almost one week out I am 287. Wow! I am down 25 pounds from start of liquid diet to today and down 12 pounds, so far, since surgery. I am having to work at my liquids....sipping, sipping, sipping. My hubby bought a diet Dr. Pepper today and although I don't even like them I would have paid good money to have just a taste but didn't want to go there at all so I didn't. Whew! Took a dose of pain meds last night and instead of helping me relax they seemed to make me keyed up instead. Didn't make for a restful night and today was my first day back at work. Will try to do just relaxation techniques tonight and stay clear of the pain meds. Can notice a huge differnce in a few of my shirts and it seems unreal to be at this point already. Woohoo!! Petrified of getting a leak so being super careful about what I am taking in and I take my temperature all the time. Not so much today at work but at times it tends to be a OCD thing. Any words of adivce??? I am urinating just fine BUT, and this may be a bit TMI, when should I expect to have a bowel movement? I mean I am passing gass all sorts of ways but nothing is happening as far as having a BM. Should I be concerned? What were some of your favorite foods when you moved into the soft food stage? Am looking for ideas to keep my tastebuds happy. xoxo

    Lemon Greek Yogurt with Raspberries

sounds AMAZING!!!! Ive been too experimenting with greek yogurt. I found that some real lemon juice, and some splenda with sliced strawberries is really tasty and a great "dessert" or snack. but your idea sound even better! whare do you get french vanilla stevia though?

    Lemon Greek Yogurt with Raspberries

I have been trying different things with my greek yogurt and came up with this! My husband even loves it, and every time I make myself a bowl, he is always commenting on how good it smells...maybe I will share one day....maybe... plain greek yogurt a few drops of lemon stevia liquid (I use Lemon Twist liquid stevia by Now foods) raspberries a few slivered almonds or granola a packet of French Vanilla powdered Stevia (I use Now brand) Mix the lemon stevia into the yogurt and blend well. Throw in your almonds. Wash your raspberries, place on top and then sprinkle with the French Vanilla Stevia (I do this because raspberries can be tart...sweetens everything up!) So delicious. I have also tried with strawberries. Good too! Any berry would probably work.

    protein, and amount of food

I eat teaspoon of yogurt and cottage cheese. Some times I sprinkle a little bit of non-flavored Protein on top for a little bit of extra protein. I also a do soft scrambles egg. I couple this with my Protein drinks. I totally appreciate the disgust with your protein drinks! Now that I'm adding some real food into the mix, I find that the shakes aren't so bad.

What has your surgeon and dietitian recommended? Mine had several suggestions, the one that works best for me is a pack of Sugar Free Carnation Instant Breakfast mixed with 8oz skim milk (14g protein) twice a day and then a protein powder called Unjury (20g protein) at least once sometime twice a day. The Unjury is best unflavored and I mix it with low fat frozen yogurt (5g protein), milk (amother 5g protein), and peanut-butter (5g protein) or fresh strawberries, or bananas for a great smoothie. I've also heard that Isopure is fantastic and is sold at GNC stores, but I live in a small town and don't have a GNC around me so haven't tried that one yet. Good Luck!

    Getting my life back

Well, I sometimes hate to admit it, but for me it was... pardon the expression.. a piece of cake! I had no pre-op diet except doc wanted me to lose a few pounds to shrink the liver. I opted for a low carb/ high protein diet for a week before surgery. Then liquids the day before and it's been clear liquids and yogurt ever since. I have one more week on clear liquids.. then all liquids.. then mushie food and then regular food. I had no pain to speak of afterwards. Just a little pulling in the incision area... and NONE of the gas pain everyone talks about. Don't know why I was spared, but I'm very thankful. For me it was just a very easy surgery and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Port Huron is a wonderful hospital with great staff and my doctor is one of the finest in the state for Lap band surgery. He has done over 700 of them so far. The liquid diet is not really that bad. With broth, sf jello, yogurt, sf popsicles and juice there is enough variety for the day. I take a chewable vitamin... Viactiv chocolate cherry and it's my little chewing treat each morning. Hope all goes well for you!!! Judy

    Pre-Band Eating Habits? HELP!

Just to add what my typical day looks like now: I ALWAYS have breakfast. Weekdays I have an individual package of oatmeal (either low sugar or weight control). On weekends I will have 1/4 to 1/2 cup of egg whites scrambled, with some parmesan cheese on 1-2 slices of weight watchers toast. Occasionally I will have real eggs. Lunch: some kind of protein - either turkey or chicken or lean ham, tuna or cottage cheese or cheese (usually about 2 oz), some kind of carbohydrate (crackers, or weight wathcher's bread), 100 g of fat free yogurt and a piece of fruit (I might save the fruit and yogurt for a snack). I may also have some raw veggies (although I am not very fond of raw veggies, so mostly not). Dinner: protein (usually 3-4 oz) and lots of veggies. I love cooked veggies - some favorites: asparagus, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, brocoli, spinach, edamame beans, green beens. I don't use a lot of sauces, but I do use extra virgin olive oil, and parmesan cheese and some sauces (ie stir fry or salad dressing). I can still eat pasta and I will have pasta about once a week. Evening snack: 100 calorie packs (popcorn is a favorite), turkey pepperoni (only 45-50 calories per stick ), fruit, suagr free pudding (about 60-100 calories per 1/2 cup), homemade high fiber, low fat, muffin (under 100 calories each), or a vita muffin (around 100 calories). I always plan an evening snack, even though I don't snack much during the day, because my real weakness is evening eating. If I am going to have cookies, or cake, usually it is on the weekend and I have it and enjoy it immensely. Despite my horrible eating patterns of the past, I am finding this way of eating pretty easy to maintain. I have been eating this way consistently for 9 months now (some slips - we won't talk about my trip to Europe last summer). I have never done this in my ENTIRE life for this long. I started this way of eating pre-band, but it is much easier to maintain since the band. Most of the time I actually have to plan to eat, to make sure I am eating enough nutritious stuff. That said, I still want to eat in the evenings, even when full :frown: Sorry for the long post, but I just wanted to let you know that I am probably the poster child for dysfunctional eating and letting food control me (please note my highest ever known weight). I just want to let people know that if you are willing to commit yourself, you can and will be successul, but it is a lot of hard work that you have to do for yourself. I read on a post in the last couple of days that someone said she looked at the band as a maintenance tool, but the actual weight loss was up to her. That statement really spoke to me and, in my case, I 100% agree. Good luck and know that you CAN do it!:frown:

    Can't Get Slim Fast Down?

Actually, yes as Anita mentioned, I often have issues with milk and yogurt earlier in the day. So, you may want to find another protein drink to try.

    Pain from yogurt/pudding??

I sounds like you just aren't quite ready for those yet, even if they are on your plan. You may have more inflammation in your stomach than most, which restricts the thicker (or sometimes even the thinner) things more than others experience. I had yogurt (and purees, etc.) in the hospital without problem, but others on the same plan couldn't handle them. Our general rule was to try new foods one at a time to test for tolerance; if it worked, great, if not, try it again in a week or two.

    One Week Post Op

Okay, I made it! I have to be really honest and say that the last seven days have been a little rough. Nothing happened that I wasn't fully aware of (only getting to drink 4 oz. of fluid to start off) but the reality of it all kind of came crashing down on me Sunday. I started to run a low grade fever 99.8 and it made me feel like JUNK! Thankfully when I woke up Tuesday morning the fever was gone and I felt human again. I get to start "squishy" foods today, but honestly, I am scared to try them. I have named my new stomach Seymour, because he has a mind of his own. I have spent the last week trying to figure out exactly what "Seymore" wants. Is it hungry, thirsty, full? I haven't had any vomiting and just a little bit of nausea. I have been sticking to my protein supplement shakes, tomato soup, low fat yogurt, instant cream of wheat, sugar free pop cyclices & crystal light. I need to read other people's post op blogs to see what the normal thoughts are on the first week, because I think that I have been kind of hard on myself. I am still a little sore on two of my incisions but I am back at work today hoping for the best. I work a desk job and have a fantastic boss so I have the flexibility to take it easy. I did get on the scale this morning and I am down 10 pounds. I think I will be more excited about it when I fell fully recovered from surgery. I'll keep you guys posted.

    update

So Orientation was very informative. I weighed in at a whopping 291. Yikes!!! I have an appointment with the surgeon on Oct 15th. So I am starting the pre-op diet to start to lose the weight that the surgeon will reccomend. We went to the store and I got a scale, a food scale, and some food to start. Today was the first day eating smaller portions and goodness I was hungry. Through Kaiser they want you to eat 3 meals a day and NO snacking. So for breakfast I had, at 6am, 1/2 cup of egg beaters, 1 oz fat free cheese, and a yogurt. I was pretty hungry by 9am. So I drank a bunch of water, it didn't seem to help though. For lunch I had 3 oz of deli sliced turkey, 1 green apple, and a yogurt. That was at 11:45. Dinner time felt like it was forever away. I had to wait until my boyfriend got home from coaching flag football, the team won. He got home around 5:30. I know that seems early to eat dinner for some but since I go to work at 6:30 in the morning its not to me. I feel okay right now. I am tired and a little weak feeling. I would think that after a few days of eating this way my body will get used to it. It is challenging but I think that it is good to start early and get used to eating smaller amounts.
  17. For travel. I always have protein bars and almonds. . I buy Greek yogurt at the airports. I also pack and check my bag with the premier pure protein shakes in my suitcase for the hotel.
  18. Has your doctor been talking to my doctor. My schedule is crazy because I need to take synthroid due to no thyroid gland. Since synthroid absorbs vitamins it get complicated. So I take celebrate muti complete, probiotic eating yogurt everyday, Iron w/ C tablets and I have to wait one hour before taking any vitamins in the morning. Morning I take muti vitamin and b-12 Afternoon chewable calcuim chocolate w/ chewable iron w/ C table its my snack Before bed I take Biotin, second muti vitamin Went to see my doctor and my vitamin levels were great, I hope this helped [quote name='Sassy' timestamp='1298317261' post='119018' HI, I bought all my vitamins and by all I mean I have to take: Vitamin C Zinc Iron Probiotic Calcium Biotin Multi-vitamin Omega 3 Fish oil B-12 That is a a lot! More then many people I hear, but this is what my Dr, ordered so I am trying to follow orders. My problem is I cannot take the multi-vitamin within 2 hours of the Calcium. But I have to take both the multi-vitamin and the calcium 3 times a day. I am forgetting to take them on the schedule and now I am not getting in all my calcium and multi-vitamins. I have a baby to take care of and I've tried to set a timer, but I am forgetting to do that too, sometimes. Is there any vitamins in calcium or multi, that you can only day one time a day. I am taking Celebrate vitamins for both my calcium and my multi, and I can swallow pills, I don't have to use chewables. Thanks

    What’s Your Best Food Swap?

I miss pizza!!! But I make homemade pizza using a zucchini crust. I also do mashed cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes, I use non fat creek yogurt anytime something calls for sour cream or cream cheese. I also make veggie Pasta, and I use ground turkey anytime you would use ground beef.

    Pre-Op Liquid Diet

I had a two week liquid diet. I was allowed 3 protein shakes a day, sugar free (popsicle, pudding, jello), chicken broth, water, high protein Greek yogurt, and cream of soup drained. Was allowed to juice vegetable and fruits to drink. Each day was 900 calories. Lost about 20 pounds on the liquid diet. Surgery was less than 20 minutes long. They said my liver is very shrunk. 2 weeks post op

I weighed in for week two and I'm at 288. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little let down since its only a pound, but I'm also not surprised. I've been having a hard time adjusting to eating on a schedule and eating consistently. It seems like my metabolism has completely shut down, which makes sense. The other thing is that I haven't been active at all. Between school through the week and work all weekend I've been giving myself an awful lot of excuses to not work out. I have a treadmill so at the very least I can be doing that. Hopefully I can settle into some sort of routine. No pain or discomfort at all this week. I have noticed I keep feeling my port. I don't know if its just a nervous habit to run my hand over it or the sheer fascination of being able to feel this strange object in my body but I do it a lot haha. My appetite is back, but still in a strange way. I'm having a really hard time trying to tell if I'm hungry or if I have the urge to eat. The urge to eat (and overeat) is in my head. Other than knowing its 'time' to eat, or knowing that i need to eat something I'm not sure if I'm feeling hunger. But when I do eat, I want to eat a lot. I've been trying to limit myself and have been doing a decent job but I definitely need to drinking my shakes more. I've ventured into new territory with my soft foods, I've been making chicken salad and chicken with bbq sauce. Does anyone else feel like by the time they add all the stuff to make it 'soft' they've added a ton of calories? I've been using miracle whip instead of mayo (which kills me lol), and substituting Greek yogurt in anything I can get away with (because it still tastes like sour cream), but still- it adds up. Any tips? I haven't really pursued vegetables except for potatoes (again-super starchy! help!), but thats on the to-do list for this week. In other fun news, I just booked my first real vacation ever! I'm going to North Carolina in May when school lets out to visit my best friend. I'm so excited because I feel like that's enough time to make a big difference. Since she doesn't see me everyday, it'll also be interesting to see her reaction. Plus ya know, beach ocean swimsuit blah blah blah. Should be quite an adventure!
