Why am I Always hungry 2.5 weeks in
Arthur Belly posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi All I had a gastric bypass done on the 16th December 2019 and followed all the guidelines. I have been having soup, yogurt or jelly but now before I go on to the puree foods stage I find I am hungry all the time. I was told that this wouldn't happen. I can also drink as much as I want all the time. I am just confused as to why I am hungry all the time, when at first I was always full. Has anyone else felt like this? Weight loss has stopped now. I have lost a total of 12Lb after gaining 2LB last few days. Thankyou -
3 days post OP- nausea, dry heaving, incision pain, not eating...
loridee11 replied to Bamachicvsg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m doing really well. I’m off pain meds today and am a little tired but otherwise ok. I’ve met my fluid goals each day. I’ve been close to protein (met 1 day) but to do that I feel like I’m putting something in my mouth all day - I know that I’m eating just a tiny amount but between 3 meals (2 oz soup or Greek yogurt) and the 2 protein shakes I need to get protein it is really hard. you? -
February 2019 weight loss buds
2Bsmaller18 replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I started drinking 2% milk, eating higher fat yogurt, nuts, added pumpkin seeds to salads, eating tablespoon of peanut butter, eating pistachios, and adding a teaspoon of olive oil when i cooked veggies and eggs. I am basically maintaining with a 1-2 pound loss in the past 2 months. That helped slow down the loss for sure. I did add some not so great carbs but not terrible carbs like adding granola with seeds in my yogurt or boring graham crackers, triscuits etc. Not cake and pie etc. I am snacking a lot to try and hit 1500 calories. A lot of my protein comes form a premier shake, milk and yogurt. If I et a lot of meat I can't get enough calories in over thee course of the day. -

I can't speak for people in weight loss mode, but I know a ton of people in maintenance who eat protein pancakes. They use protein powder instead of flour, artificial sweetener (if any sweetener at all, that is), eggs, baking powder, unsweetened almond milk - sometimes cottage cheese or yogurt - and put sugar free syrup on them. I make them sometimes and top them with Greek yogurt, too, for extra protein. Nothing in those that is particularly bad. I suppose if they make you crave the real thing, then yea, but.... (of course the calories might be too high for those in weight loss mode, but not if you're in maintenance, unless you're making gigantic ones or eating a ton of them or something.. -
I had RNY on 12/31 so I'm 3 days out. So far things are going pretty well. I have a little pain but I've been able to control it with Tylenol since Day 1. I'm on modified liquids which with my Dr. includes greek yogurt and cottage cheese. I'm only "eating" 2 oz three times a day, and then trying to get protein shakes and liquids in the rest of the time yet I feel like all I am doing is eating all day. I did pretty good with liquids and protein yesterday though I didn't quite make my goals. I'm hopeful I can today. I did some measurements right before I went in so I know I'm still pretty bloated (my waist is still 2" bigger today than pre-surgery). Did anyone else track that and if so, how long until the bloating went away?

Looks like there are a few of us on 1/27! Im glad to have others to follow this journey on! I find it so interesting how different all of our pre-op requirements are. Waiting on liquids before and after meals
2Bsmaller18 replied to jmjm2's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m 10 months out. Regarding drinking after eating-Initially I couldn’t drink for at least 30-40 minutes after eating 1 egg or an ounce of meat. I still don’t drink after eating now just to follow the rules. Early on and now I can eat yogurt then drink 10-20 minutes later with ease since it’s not a solid food. Regarding drinking before eating-Now I can drink water and 10 minutes later eat as long as I have not eaten for 1-2 hours prior so my stomach is completely empty, the water passes right through and then I can eat without waiting 30 minutes. I would not encourage purposely doing that especially early on. I’m at maintenance and have to do this in order to get calories in. -
Try setting a timer and drink (sip) 1-2 ounces from a shot glass every 10-15 minutes. Do this even if you don’t feel hungry as long as you don’t feel sick. Early on it was harder for me to drink first thing in the morning or to drink if I hadn’t in a hour so constantly drinking worked. I even would take a sip, play a 2 minutes game on my phone, take a sip and repeat. It forced me to drink and get fluids in. A lot of us initially had constipation but if they had to give you a ton of antibiotics then you could be getting diarrhea from that. Yogurt will help to slowly get good probiotics back into the GI. tract.

Wednesday Jan 2 28 months PO / 5'2" / last weight 175 -------------------------------------------------------------------- I didn't go on the scale past 3 days because I typically gain 2-3 lbs before my period, which is due in 3 days. The no water rule only applies to solids hon. As long as you're on clear and pure liquids (even yogurt), you don't have to follow the 30/30 rule. If you experience issues with yogurt when you add it, thin it out with Fairlife fat free milk or some unsweetened almond or cashew milk. Sorry for your struggles but so glad they caught the infection. Be very careful to observe any new or increasing redness, pain, nausea, discomfort. Fluid is king right now. Do EVERYTHING you must do to get your fluid in. I think we all need 4oz of fluids per hour minimum? So at first it is constant sips of liquid! or ice chips, popsicles, whatever you have to do to get fluids. Also if they gave you a spirometer it is SO important to use it like instructed. You have to mobilize the fluid in your lungs and expectorate it. Holding a pillow over your tum is a lifesaver!!! Feel better soon. Walk as often as you can. Even if it's only for a minute. Laying still is your enemy!!!

loridee11 replied to Bamachicvsg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hope everyone is doing well this morning. Steve, hope your pain is much improved! I'm doing pretty well today. I got some decent sleep and have been sipping fluids and had some greek yogurt for breakfast. I needed a couple tylenol this am - I was a little worried since they sent me home with pills but so far so good. -
Supplement’s and strengths needed for post menopausal gastric bypass patients
AZhiker replied to polishanita's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Had my bypass at age 63. I take the Bariatricpal multi with iron, B-12 (500), calcium citrate (1000) and D3 (4,000). I was a little low in Vit D on my 6 month labs, so that is why I take 4,000 iu. I take the multi and B-12 with breakfast and the calcium and D3 with evening yogurt snack. Except for D3, all my 6 month labs were great. Hopefully all will be great next month for the 1 year set. Have you had a Dexascan recently? Although mine was perfectly normal 3 years ago, when I had one done a few months ago, it showed osteopenia. Go figure. Apparently rapid weight loss can do this, but we really can't say it was due to WLS. So I am very faithful with my calcium and D3, and also trying to get aas much impact exercise in as I can. -
A good start to the new year
AZhiker replied to Lynda486's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Starting my new year with exercise goals (to accomplish a rim-to-rim, one day Grand Canyon hike later in year), and expanding my menu of whole food plant based (WFPB) eating. I found a new breakfast that I LOVE - at least until I get tired of it, but it's my go-to breakfast for now: Breakfast - GF whole grain tortilla wrap with sauteed mushrooms/onion/tofu, mashed beans, a smear of homemade pesto, cheese sauce made from potato and nutritional yeast, covered with salsa. And an orange from our tree. Yumminess! (Alternate breakfast if I am going on a long bike ride or long strenuous hike: cooked cereal (oats, quinoa, amaranth, teff, buckwheat combo), pea milk, banana and raisins.) Lunch will be stir fry (no oil) veggies with edamame and tempeh, sesame and pumpkin seeds, roasted cashews. With cooked buckwheat (chewy like rice, but more nutrition). Mango/pear fruit cup. Dinner will be a big bowl of nachos (baked corn tortillas, lentils, black beans, cheese sauce made from potatoes, pea milk and nutritional yeast, pico de gallo. Also a small bowl of bean chili with "cheese sauce." Snack is oat milk yogurt with blueberries, prickly pear juice, homemade granola, slivered almonds, seeds (sunflower, barrel cactus, sesame, pumpkin), 1/2 scoop pea protein powder. Grab bag always made up of raw, cut up carrots, celery, peppers, cauliflower, broccoli, butternut squash. Beverages include water, herbal teas, decaf green tea. Diluted Body Armour drink on long rides/hikes. Exercise goals this month include 6 days a weeks of 30 flights of stairs a day, at least 10,000 steps, wall pushups, weights, leg routine, stretches, and a cardio workout of biking (15-30 mi), hill hiking (5 mi) , or swimming (1/4 mi). I am maintaining weight in low 140's, and focus now on healthy eating and exercise. I haven't counted calories in a while. I keep an eye on protein intake and that is it. I have so much energy, no joint pain or stiffness, and never even get sore after a hard workout. So something is working right. -
Yesterday, Tuesday, Dec. 31 Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / ??? lbs (last weigh in 115.0 lbs on Dec 18th) ---------------------------------------- NYE was a low key house party at a friend's house and I was fully prepared for a calorie and carb overload last night, so I did not disappoint...LOLzzz: ...and yes, there was still pecan pie in the fridge which we dove into when we got home. ...and yes, i dumped. I knew it was going to happen soon after I finished my late-night pecan pie. Since I was pretty tipsy the death feelings were short lived as I pretty much passed out after the bathroom portion of the dumping. Mr. was sober enough to carry me upstairs and put me in bed. Yesterday ended up...okayish. Better than before I got back on track. But not great for weight loss. I am down a pound though, which of course is within the margin of error, lol. Woke up and started to snack again at 2am, but this time stopped myself after two small cookies rather than a full binge. Today I'm being strict with the carbs. Breakfast - just coffee with splenda/half and half/dollop of whipped cream Early Lunch (11:30) - 1/2 cup veggies (leftover) and 2 oz perdue precooked grilled chicken and 1 slice swiss, heated in a hot pan with just enough oil to coat the pan. Used some seasoning and it was really good! I forgot I like veggies that way. Snack - coffee with half and half and splenda, light and fit greek yogurt Snack - 1.6 oz roast beef, 1 slice cheese, 1 dill pickle Not sure what dinner will be yet.

Yesterday, Monday, Dec. 30 Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / ??? lbs (last weigh in 115.0 lbs on Dec 18th) ---------------------------------------- Man, we were gifted a Pecan Pie from our neighbour yesterday and it is so delicious. I had 2 half slices yesterday and as I type this I am contemplating getting another 1/2 slice. I'm hoping that Mr. and the Kid finished it off by now because while I didn't have any serious dumping, i did get a racing heart for like 30-40 mins and got pretty tired after I ate it each time yesterday (and the macrons and truffles probably didn't help either). All these holiday treats and snacks in the house right now will be the death of me. ---------------------------------------- 1:30pm - salad w/ vinaigrette + cheddar + cucumber + carrots + 6 grape tomatoes + 1 slice prosciutto + 6 mussels in white wine sauce + 1/2 slice pecan pie 5:30pm - 3/4 cup greek yogurt + 1 oz blueberries + 1 tsp chia seeds + 1 oz almonds + 1/4 cup full fat milk + 2 french macarons + 3 seed crackers + 2 tbsp peppercorn paté 8:00pm - salad w/ vinaigrette + 1 tsp grated parm + cucumber + carrots + 10 mussels in white wine sauce 11:30pm - 1/2 cup greek yogurt + 1 oz blueberries + 1 tsp chia seeds + 2 Lindt Lindor Dark Chocolate Truffles + 1/2 slice pecan pie ---------------------------------------- Totals: 1742 cals - 89g Protein - 168g NET carbs - 75g fat

Finally ordered some isopure unflavored protein powder, it’ll be here tomorrow. Hope it truly has no taste because I just can’t with the protein shakes I’ve had thus far. Basically living off of those oikos triple zero Greek yogurts for my protein lol. I also got an order of the vitamin patches in the mail today, hopefully they work/I like them. My chewable vitamin is DISGUSTING lol -
December Surgery dates???
ChubRub replied to Kimmerz23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Poopgate continues! LOL!! I took some Miralax last night, but nothing yet. Will take some more tonight. Luckily I'm home all week, so will be able to run to the potty whenever things start moving again! Since I'm still on thick liquids, I've been on a soup kick. I usually have a sweet tooth, but between protein shakes and greek yogurt, I'm over sweets, and just want savory! French onion soup (no bread, no cheese) and tomato soup are my new best friends! -

Ok, bummer that I didn't stick the 129.4lb landing this morning. I was so close! LOL. This morning I'm at ticker weight 130.4lbs which is a great place to start my usual TCB M-Th regimen. It's gonna be an interesting week with NYE and NYD. Traditionally these are HUGE party days for my family with big meals and lots o' wine & Irish whiskey. Am going to figure it out though. I know I can make a bunch of swap outs with an Eat This Instead of That attitude along with asking myself if XYZ is worth the scale bounce the following morning! So today is IF until lunch for a 16:8 with PP in the morning. Some say that isn't really fasting...but my whole day is very low low cal for an ADF approach. And many docs say as long as you stay below a certain caloric threshold that it really doesn't matter if you eat those cals all at once or spaced through the day. Yesterday, Sunday, Dec. 29 Maintenance : 5'4" / 22mo PO RNY / 130.4 lbs ---------------------------------------- I continue to approach NY at the bottom of my weight window. I started transitioning to solids as of the 24th. So for protein I have my yogurt, cheese, milk, chicken, fish. Although the meat has not sat well. Cooked vegetables and a few rice crackers. Not many carbs. I have a hard time getting through my protein to ever make it to carbs. Sent from my SM-G950W using BariatricPal mobile app

Any new toys for after weight loss?
Darktowerdream replied to Slimming Down Steve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Funny thing is I liked my old fashioned looking but updated oster beehive blender. (Still just flip one switch) But haven’t used it at all since surgery. I found it added too much air to the blend. And it was easier to just hand mix (PEScience select) protein powder and put in the fridge around 20 minutes or so before drinking and mix again (thickens it) either that or get RTD. I also like protein shots. Though now if I have protein powder I mix It with yogurt. Cuisinart is a great brand so you got a steal of a deal. Factory remanufactured can be better it undergoes more inspections. I wish we had a place in our kitchen for one of those. -

I'm as ready as I think I can be 😕 I have a little more food prep I am going to do today and tomorrow (putting together some 2 oz servings of things like greek yogurt, etc...). But mentally and physically I think I'm as ready as I can be. I'm getting nervous though and almost wish I had more to keep me busy over the next two days. How about you? Are you ready?
