  1. So I began my 2-week liquid diet today (RNYGB is scheduled for 8/8). I'm noticing a few things right off the bat - warning - this may be TMI: I've been peeing like CRAZY, and when I feel the urge, it is all of a sudden and incredibly urgent. I felt a bit deprived today as I'm taking in 900-1000 calories per day (I pray this improves), BUT the good news is that my nutritionist provided me with dietary guidelines that allow for solid food consumption in addition to the Protein drinks I'm taking in. Question: has anyone experienced this pee pee phenomenon? Why does it occur? Thanks for the support, as always!
  2. Wow did THAT suck! LOL I've got 6ccs in a 10cc band and am feeling pretty good restriction and pretty satisfied for a couple of hours. I haven't had any issues with getting stuck before and even though I try to be careful with my bites and chewing...sometimes one gets down without really really getting it chewed as well as I know it should. I've been able to eat veggies, chicken breast etc with no issues, so I must admit I had gotten a little cocky that it wouldn't ever happen to me. Yesterday, I was eating a piece of turkey lunch meat and it wasn't that big of a piece. While chewing, this actually WAS one that I chewed up well. Well, when I swallowed..oh boy. I could feel that sudden stuck feeling in my chest that wouldn't clear. I actually started to panic! I wasn't like I was choking..but BOY was it uncomfortable. I started trying to swallow to get it down and burping (I guess this is PB'ing and sliming???) Walking....squaking around like a chicken with my arms, Finally.......TMI...here it comes!! My body was having NONE OF THAT.... and I ended up spitting up. Cockiness...GONE. Lesson learned. I don't EVER want that to happen again if I can help it. What a HORRIBLE feeling! BLECH!
  3. This is about pooping, so if you’re grossed out by stuff like that please just scroll past this. I’m 5 days post op (lap band to gastric bypass) and finally had a bowel movement, my concern is that it was completely bloody. Not just like little drops here or there, but it seemed the turd was formed out of pure blood. I know a lot has gone on with my internal plumbing because of the surgery, but I am concerned. Has anyone had personal experience with this or know of any resources that might alleviate my concerns? I’ve already put a note in to my surgeon, but I want to see what “the people” have experienced. Thanks in advance for any information.

to those of you who had gall bladder surgery

My gall bladder recovery was very painful for me also. I was on RX pain meds for two weeks. Then Tylenol for another 2. I had a slow recovery. Much slower than VSG. I think the reason was: my gall bladder was emergency surgery, due to gall stone stuck in the duct and infected. I was on antibiotics for a 21 day treatment. I was constipated from the antibiotics. Eat greek yogurt. Benefiber. Other food I was told to eat: salad with Low fat dressings, bran muffins and stewed prunes. (OK TMI warning here) When the antibiotics stopped, wow, did I find out in a hurry that I did not need the prunes anymore! What a swinging pendulum ride that whole deal was. And painful to boot. Took me about 2 months to get back to "normal". Hang in there, this will pass. pun intended, LOl
  5. Caution...TMI for some... It was more painful that VSG surgery for me too. I had mine about 10 years ago, and it was a lap surgery...but I do remember walking bent over, and being sore for a couple of weeks after the cholycystectomy. I also had diarrhea when I ate any fats, for quite some time after the choly. Over the years, I have noticed it less often as time went on, unless I really overindulged. Now since I have had my VSG, I have NOT had ANY of the diarrhea after eating fats, like I had before the surgery. In fact I tend to be constipated, maybe because of the other dietary changes (hi Protein, little carbs/veggies/fruits). Once I am past 6 months post-vsg, and am eating more veggies and fruits, maybe my bowel habits will change again. I don't like this constipation one bit. Am getting hemorrhoids. Even with taking miralax and keeping my stools soft.

My 1 year is coming up.....

Oh yea, I totally stalled. But I put the scale away and knew that I was losing inches. But the numbers were not dropping. So I didn't weigh myself for two weeks. Meaning I stuck to the diet plan and when I finally took the leap of faith too get on the scale, too my surprise I lost over 15 pounds in 2 weeks. I think that's great results. Right now I've lost 125 pounds in 11 months. That's alittle more than 11 pounds per months and I think that's super fantastic. My daily work out is Zumba. I bought the DVD's and I love them. I get 3 things out of it. 1st I'm sweating and burning calories and toning, 2en I'm learning how to dance SUPER sexy...lol and 3rd the bed room is very interesting... I know TMI but I'm just enjoy my NEW life and QUILTY of LIFE :-)

On my way to the flat side

I am doing good....would be MUCH better if I would/could have a BM! Sorry TMI... First couple days was worse than expected but each day has been better than the last. I'm more miserable with my bowel issues than the surgery at this point. I had a really hard time with the anesthesia this time...waking up was horrid & apparently, according to my mom & daughter, I was mean. Day 2 was ok, I slept a lot & was only in real pain when I had to get in/out of bed. Left the aftercare facility & went to the hotel where that evening (Thursday, postop day1) my wonderful doc came to see me at the hotel, checked my bandages & fixed my CG, making me much more comfortable. Day 3 I was getting around better, could walk by myself but needed help to get in&out of bed....couldn't wait to get home to the lift recliner I had rented. My hubby has been a much better & more compassionate nurse than I had expected. I'm getting a little stir crazy having to ask for help for most everything I need. I've tried doing too much on my own & pay with pain and/or fatigue. My drain ports are more uncomfortable today too. Hoping tomorrow is better & hoping I'm up to going to see family for a short time tomorrow afternoon.....WISH ME LUCK!!
  8. Hi everyone my surgery got delayed again for another 8 days. Yesterday I had felt really weird and it scared me, I think my blood pressure was way to low so I ate a half of a boiled egg and had a piece of candy. I’m on a liquid diet to shrink my liver and I lost 14 pounds already. Hope this isn’t tmi but I haven’t been able to use the bathroom so I was wondering would the egg and candy still be in my stomach days later.
  9. I was wondering if anyone else is having diarrhea ?? I know to much TMI...

    4 days post op

I was done on Tues too. What did you do for a pre op had you been on liquids, did you do a bowel p rep like mag citrate. Are you still on liquids now. Sorry 4 all the ?s but if the above is true there is not much in there. My dr alsocautioned against Miralax, recommended colace first and 1/2 dose of Mirilax if used. Are you passing gas? The more you walk the quicker your bowels will get moving and getting your Water in will also help with the constipation. I too have not pooed yet but am not uncomfortable and cleaned the shoot (sorry tmi) before I went in so not worried yet. Sleeved 3/1 OR weight 216 Todays weight 204

    Protein deprived

Picture = TMI Try some egg drop Soup. It's really just broth with an egg blended in and is very satisfying.
  12. I am just wondering if anyone else out there has had stomach issues with the protein shakes. I have had nausea and diarrhea this whole time and today it is worse. I tried a different type of protein from GNC it is still whey. I thought whey was suppose to be the best out there to digest and I am not lactose intolerant never have been so I know it is not that. Now I am not ruling out the fact that I may have a little stomach virus over the past two days when it has been its worse but, I've had problems this whole time. It's actually helped I am not hungry and I've made extra sure not to get dehydrated but its really starting to get annoying. Anyone else go through this? Surgery is tuesday and I really don't want this to interfere
  13. I have read that some of you were hungry. at your band I am not I have no feeling when I am or when I have to go to the batroom. To do anything I am also very winded I am so out of breath. I have little pain and a lot of gas. (TMI) I also have very watery bm.I have been walking but, I get so tired.Oh I forgot I had my surgery on June19th at 11:00am. I just wanted to know if any one else was having or had these symptons?
  14. I am in a bit of trouble, like stuck trouble but at the other end of the digestive track. I think a glycerin suppostory might help? i always get this way from the drugs and anestesthia. i should have taken colace in the weeks before. how have you stayed regular in the first few weeks. can we take mineral oil?

    PreOP Diet

Day 6: Good morning all. I woke up again feeling that migraine trying to take over, so I decided I'm going to give my body a little break today. I know it is in shock from going from eating all that wonderful unhealthy and healthy foods to absolutely no food at all. That is A LOT to go through especially when you are sick already and have to take medication on the regular. I'm glad I decided to start two weeks out rather than wait until Thursday this upcoming week per my doctor's orders, because now I know what my body can and cannot handle. So on Monday, I will definitely have a conversation with him to find out what can I do about this, if anything at all. I may just have to suffer through the headache, but Lord knows I'm not ready for that. So today, I have started off with my coffee as usual, a scrambled egg with a teaspoon of grape jelly and a cup of orange juice. I have to say I haven't felt this satieated with my band completely empty EVER!!!!!! I actually LOVE this feeling. Sometime between now and noon, I am going to eat a banana. I have to get my extra potassium in as I definitely take my multivitamins everyday. I am going to do liquids for lunch and for supper, I think I may have some boiled shrimp and a little lettuce and tomato salad. I have drank some detox tea for the past couple of days to help with this process, and I finally excreted this morning. It wasn't as much as I hoped for, but something is better than nothing. I do think I'm going to have to take a laxative as I know there's more that needs to come out. I know this maybe a little TMI, but I have to share the whole journey and not part because I want others to know you're not alone in this journey. So I do hope I'm encouraging someone out there. 16. I will start religiously using stool softener. This morning, I got some idea of what women go through in labor. Sorry if that's TMI.

    Looking for other BPD patients

Wow - thank you so much for replying to my post! I had the Scopanaro BPD surgery at Goleta Valley Hospital in CALIF - done by Dr Holian, and was actually #86 to have that surgery! Dr Holian and his nurse, Trish, were life savers in those early days as it was a guessing game on much of what we were supposed to do post surgery. Much of what is done today was gleaned from those days of hit and miss post op care. I even was the 2nd (or 3rd?) person to get pregnant have give birth after having BPD surgery. After both Dr. Holian & Trish passed away I lost the much needed support and tried time and time again to find medical, or naturopathic doctors that could help me. I did see Dr. Ara Keshishian and ironically just reached out via email again to him today (we no longer live in CA). He no longer takes insurance, so I may try some of your other great suggestions. It would be so awesome to have a support group to toss ideas around. I don't have to have someone that lives in CO -- but that would be an extra perk! I appreciate you taking the time to answer my post. Right now I have an immediate need to find someone to address my painful issues - so will reach out to those you have suggested and always have Dr. K to fall back on if no one else can take me or takes my insurance. Hope this wasn't too much TMI. thanks again.....
  18. Hi - i am 7 months post bypass. I’ve lost 82 lbs- which is great. I have struggled- ulcers-gall bladder removal and my blood sugars are still high(type 2 diabetic for 22 years) I still have a lot of diarrhea(tmi) and occasional vomiting. But my biggest struggle is feeling light headed and dizzy all the time. Anyone else??? I haven’t been able to exercise much at all as I get too dizzy. Anyone else???
  19. This is a bit TMI, so apologies. I've been on a full-liquid diet, and I initially thought it might have been the tomato Soup I was drinking so I cut that out, I consume 60 grams of Protein everyday, and it's nectar chocolate Truffle that I mix with fat free Milk. I also occasionally have a diet energy V8, which could be an issue too, but I am experiencing really bad diarrhea. I haven't had a normal bowel movement since surgery, and I am wondering if anyone else has had this issue and how they resolved the issue? I am calling my clinic in a few hours to ask them what I should do, but I'd like another opinion from someone who may have this same experience. I would like to note that I am not lactose intolerant because I have constantly had this protein before my surgery too with no issues.
  20. I was wondering has anyone experienced non stop diarrhea? I know it's too much TMI but I'm like sick. I've lost close to 30 pounds in less than a month and I'm not sure if that's from having all those problems with my stools. If you have any advice please help.
  21. I am having a terrible time with my Water. Ever since I was a little kid, I just don't really get thirsty. I can work out, walk several miles etc. and I don't get thirsty. The only time I was ever thirsty was when I was pregnant and as soon as my son was born, boom-not thirsty. When I had my ultrasounds back then, they even told me that my bladder was near bursting with the small amount of water I was told to drink to get a clear ultrasound, and apparently I have an abnormally small bladder. Nothing serious at all, just kind of a "huh" moment. Now that I am being told by the nut to drink at least 64 oz of water a day, I'm drowning and literally peeing every 10 minutes. Just minutes after emptying my bladder, I feel like I have to go again and try to make myself wait at least 10 minutes. If I drink 64oz of water a day, I get up at least 3 times a night to pee! I have even had an MRI of my abdomen/bladder etc. to make sure it is all working correctly. Is this just how I'm going to have to live my life from now on? I'm sorry if it's TMI, but who really has time to pee this much? I feel like I live in the restroom!
  22. I was debating putting this in the ladies room but whatever everyone poops...sorry if this is gross to some....So ive been having sorta liquidy poops post op and I know this is normal because I haven't eaten any solids (I am 6 days out) how come my bm today was sorta solid then? Wow I can't believe I just asked that
  23. Happened on Day 6 for me...and it was painful! Once I got that out, though, I was in the "bowels are more loose now" mode...lol! Talk about TMI!
  24. I know this is TMI but I'm now dealing with the morning after of all that sugar and seriously, worst I've felt since surgery! Sugar is EVIL!

    9/7/09 - making goals

Okay, I was reading a magazine yesterday - since it was "me time" and I found an interesting article. It focussed on hitting 350 minutes a week of exercise, you can do it all in one day - ahhh, not me - or you can devide it up into 6 days a week, or 5 or even 3 - but the key is you have to do 350 minutes a week. I opted for 6 days a week, which averages to be about 60 min a day. I know, 6 days a week is a lot, but I have found that I have to give it my all in the beginning or I just quit. Some people have to start off slow, but for me, if I start off slow, I never get going. Anyhow, I decided to set some goals this week and push myself to do them. I hit the gym this morning, I did a circuit training, where I did 15 min on the elliptical - got my heart rate up - then jumped on the weights (worked my upper body -biceps, triceps, shoulders, back - and thru in the abs). After doing a set of weights, I jumped back on the elliptical for another 15 min, it was at this time my stomach started turning. I pushed anyhow, and did another set of weights. Jumped back on the elliptical machine (I was planning on doing another 10 to 15 min), but I realized my stomache was not settling down. I started dry heaving, which I HATE to do. I don't know about anyone else, but since I've been banding, I cannot throw up. I can PB, or spit up something thats in my pouch, but as far as something that has made it to my stomache, It is not coming back up, no matter what! Anyhow, I had drank some water, and I think that was sitting in my pouch still, and I knew it was about to come up. So I had to cut the elliptical machine short, so I grabbed my towel and headed to the door. I almost made it, but hear it comes, I covered my mouth and out came the water, I knew several saw me. I left in a hurry, so embarrasing. Sorry if this is TMI. Anyhow, I did get in 60 min, despite it all. I'm not sure what made me feel so sick, but I feel better now. I'm about to head to the kitchen and make me a colorful plate of food. Turkey breast, salad greens and some diced apple salad. yum. I'm going to take my measurements later and see where I am too so I can also keep track of them. Goals for the week: 1. Eat Clean 2. Exercise 350 min 3. Get some sleep So far 350 min minus todays 60 min = 290 min to go! Wt - 165.8 - grrrrrrr
