  1. Today's my one month surgversary and I'm so happy! Ive lost over 45lbs including the two weeks pre op diet. I did have a stall for ten days , where everyday I thought that's it this surgery isn't going to work for me, I will be the exception to the rule, what have I done to my body ect., then I started losing again and feeling wonderful. I have more energy then I've had in years, my one year old loves that mommy crawls and plays on the floor now. I went to Disney and walked for three days having the time of my life because I didn't have to sit and rest every 45 min. I love not being hungry at all and forgetting to eat. It does feel weird sitting down while everyone else eats, sometimes it's painful to watch them enjoy the foods I know I can't ever eat, but it's fun afterwards when I'm still full of energy and they can hardly move from eating too much! I love that I have almost no clothes now, even my skinny jeans are getting loose and shirts I've never worn look lovely on me now. All these random thoughts and ramblings have one central theme I FREAKIN LOVE MY SLEEVE ! Love you guys too, and thank you for the support

    Not losing weight

I agree that 30-40 lbs is unrealistic. It is too bad someone told u that. I lost 16 lbs in my 1st month and was told that was great and I should be happy, so I was OK with it. Every month the lost pounds add up. I prefer to weight about every three weeks so I am unaware of stalls and my clothes keep getting bigger. Yes, excersise is a huge part so we can get that muscle. Hang in there, it is a fun journey

    Frustrated!

My first month was like that too. Gained 7 pounds during surgery, took a week to get it off. Stalled at three weeks then the weight started coming off really well. November I lost 16 pounds. It is frustrating but be patient it will happen.
  4. Thanks stiff! Thing are going really well! My date was dec 3, and I've lost 23 PDs... Granted I was sick for three weeks... A bad chest cold/ strep throat! Unreal hey... So cold up here stupid weather! Anyways Monday will be four weeks and I've started soft food. Had a stall for almost two weeks but started the food am lost four pounds. So I think now that my cold is getting better ( minus the crazy coughing) I am excited for the new year to come, get some energy back and start excersizing. My clothes fit better, I'm gonna take my measurements again Monday...

    Typical rate of weight loss

hey hun good morning and congrats on your sleeve, My doctor told me that the first month there is a drastic weight loss and that is because we lose Water weight. As fallen angel had already mentioned, some lose 15 others lose 30 and some may lose even more, i lost 31 pounds the first time. But after my first month i went to my doctors appointment he said that i should lose 2.2 pounds a week 1kg that is 8 to 9 pounds a week and he advised me to stay close to that because at that rate my skin will be able to catch to my weight loss and tighten up faster. But sometimes i go through 1 week or so stalls so i dont lose anything that week and i might make it up the next week and he said that some months i might lose some one week and stall for the next three. Sorry for the long reply, all in all... you should be losing 8 pounds a month and that is healthy Good luck
  6. But kids...no boot camp this early. Thats for folks out some months. In a quick nutshell, because I'm heading to the ballet with a hot date (my 7 year old LOL) Remember that diet you did to shrink your liver? Your liver shrank..and then you traumitazed your body with surgery and it went all gaddly goop. Then you started feeding it Clear Liquids and maybe even solid liquis or puree's but not your normal routine. At three weeks your body says....wooooo baby, what the hell is going on? It then sends fluids to the liver to fill it back up again, and tries to find balance. This is the "three week stall" which is common to 99% of patients. No need to panic Keep the course and you'll see a drop next week.
  7. Search for week three stall. This is so common I'm surprised anyone does not expect it.

    how many calories intake

This isn't a race against what other people are doing. Just because one person is eating 1000 calories and another is eating 600 and another is eating 800, that doesn't matter. If you're losing weight then you're doing it right and sometimes if you're not losing you're *still* doing it right. It's possible that you're hitting the week 3 stall (do a search for it and you'll see the number of topics that's spawned) where you will lose little or nothing or maybe even gain a couple pounds for a week or two (or three). As long as you're getting in enough protein, water, and nutrients then it's okay. The diet you're eating now is very different from the diet that someone 15 weeks out is eating. They've probably returned to solid food, vegetables, and a number of things that you're not eating 3 weeks out, so please just concentrate on healing well
  9. I had surgery on Sept. 19th. I shared with three friends only. (Two of them are married to each other and the husband had gastric bypass himself three years ago). I did not tell my family, children, friends or coworkers. I told my employer that I had thyroid surgery to explain my 2.5 weeks medical leave. My family lives out of state so we don't get together much due to distance and expense. The last time we all were together was in July and I was 239 at that point. My friends and I live over two hours apart which sadly we don't get together as often as we wish, so our get togethers are rare. Life is so busy. All this has made the transition very smooth keeping the surgery private. People at work are noticing my over 50 lb weight loss and asking if I am losing weight and are complimenting. I have posted recent pictures on Facebook which I avoided always before and have received compliments. Because I don't see my family and friends very often, its easy to explain the weight loss by eating much smaller portions and watching what I eat. No-one is aware of how rapid its been other than the co-workers I work daily with. My kids have noticed but think I am on a diet of sorts. It motivated my 21 year old daughter to lose a bit of weight and my 14 year old twins haven't paid too much attention. Bottom line, keeping my explanations brief and people thinking its gradual weight loss has emotionally made this journey so much easier for me. I get frustrated over the stalls like everyone else because I lose inches slowly so my pants size hasn't dropped as fast as I would like which would make a bigger impact visually but I'll get there.
  10. Stalls ate super frustrating.. My order stall was at three weeks and from what I heard it was fairly common that it happens then the dreaded "week three stall" mine lasted like 3 weeks but then the scale was on the go again!!! I hope that the scale starts moving along for you too! Don't get discouraged keep eating right and drinking lots of water!!

    STALL!

Well I am about 4.5 months post surgery and have lost an astonishing 125lbs! I did however experience my first stall last month when I went THREE weeks without losing a single ounce! I knew it would happen sooner or later but after almost four months of steadily losing approx. 5lbs a week it was a stark reality check. I find that even this soon after the surgery it is easy to let diligence slide and slip back into naughty habits. I have since reminded myself what unholy hell the entire process was to get here and that serves as effective motivation to keep my protien up and my fat/carbds down. Luckily I have had very little temptation with some of my trigger foods (soda pop, pizza, sweets ect) however, I did slip up on my birthday and allow myself to eat a small peice of raspberry ice cream cake and a few bites of chinese food, and while it has been MONTHS since i have touched alcohol and YEARS since a birthday bender I nonetheless spent the night over the toilet and in excruciating pain...lesson learned! To avoid stalls i have also begun to increase my exercise bi-weekly (an extra 15m session on the treadmill here, an extra half hour of aquafitness there) and my weight loss had returned to it's former glory
  12. experienced my first stall this month (almost three weeks with no change!) finally broke it this week with an extra day of aquafit added to my weekly routine! down 125lbs (4.5m post-op) and feeling fantastic :D

  13. Take your vitamins and KEEP weighing. It is very good to know where you are at in case you need to adjust your routine(Like in this case). Keep drinking your water and the weight will move. During my three week stall I gained 3 pounds and thought WTF!! I now stick to 600-700 calories and low carb, woohoo!! Keep going, no worries, you can do this!!
  14. You are 12 days post op and have lost 20 pounds! Your body has not gone into starvation mode, it's just trying to catch up. Most people don't lose every day. I would lose for a couple of days, then hold for a couple days, then start losing again. Three months out, I still do that. Now when you start mushies at about 3 weeks, you may have a real stall as your body adjusts to having real food again. There;s still nothing you can do but wait it out and keep doing the right things. The weight loss will happen. You are too soon out for it not to happen.
  15. The Y is about 15 minutes away from me. In the morning when I am rushing around to get ready, 30 minutes back and forth will pose a bit of an issue for me. I LOVE THE IDEA of getting a few workout videos. That may work for the morning. The evening workouts will be at the Y! I am going to set up a three day a week workout schedule to get started! It should get the weight loss moving too. I have stalled (which I know is competely normal).

    My Story

Hello. I've been on here a few times and I REALLY enjoy reading everyones stories...so here's mine.... I have been overweight for the majority of my life. Three beautiful children added even more weight which was so hard to lose. I've tried diet after diet...pills ...everything. I would lose a little weight here and there then gain it right back. Recently I began looking into info. on the gastric sleeve. My PCP said I was a good candidate considering my history and my not so good family history. Eventually I started the 3 months of classes that Kaiser requires and completed them. Next was my consult with the surgeon. He put me on the 3week liquid diet and I lost the 10 lbs required. It was tough going through that phase! Finally the surgery date arrived...Nov. 27th 2012. Everything went well. They removed my gallbladder and repaired a hernia that was found. Hospital stay was rough...had horrible spasms in my chest ..but I was released the following day. Recouperating at home was a lot comfortable. The muscle spasms continued for a little over a week or so. Thank God they are gone!! Nausea has now kicked in which I take medication for. I am hoping it subsides soon!! It's been 19days since my surgery. Between the pre op diet and now I've lost 19 lbs. Happy about that even though I was hoping to of lost more...I'm now at the dreaded stall and haven't lost anymore weight in over a week and I'm really frusterated! Staying focused though! Ive come to far and refuse to give up. Hope you enjoyed my story as much as I enjoy all of yours. Add me as a friend if you'd like. I'd love to talk to you ...share encouraging words...advice...anything!!

Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

Hello all my fellow September sleevers. I have been gone for a while but I am back. I have been struggling. I have started working after two years of nothing. I have not gotten a routine down but I'm Almost there. I do pack my lunch now and get my water in. I have not lost anything I. About three weeks. I am down a total of 40lbs preop and 33lbs day of surgery. I have changed my exercise routine maybe I should goback to just walking. I now do tread, toning Zumba etc and nothing. I do know since starting work I have went from 6 days a week exercising to three or four at the Y. Any encouraging thoughts phrases sayings etc would really help right now because I know I have not reach my stop maybe just stall I still have 30 more to go.
  19. What suzthebrit said. Just about everyone's experience is normal. I had a three week stall that started at week three. Just keep following your doctor's food plan and the weight WILL come off. I know that, for me, it was hard to comprehend just how "easy" losing weight this way really is. Easy? Well, once you know what you can eat, it really isn't hard - at least compared to dieting alone.
  20. Sleeved with Dr. Almanza August 17....227 started and now 170#....so 57# loss! I have also been in a stall for three weeks just losing ounces....but overall will not complain...started in 18/20 and xl & xxl shirts..... Now wearing 12 jeans and medium tshirts and large hoodies.

    #@$% stall!

I just came out of a three week stall and suddenly dropped 7 lb. in a little over a week. We have to remember that stalls are necessary. They serve a purpose other than simply annoying us. The body can't adjust to the weight loss as quickly as the scale drops. It needs the stalls to 'catch up' physically. This is the time your body is reshaping. Use the measuring tape instead of the scale and you will see the changes happening there. Accept this as a good thing and know that when its ready, it will start to drop again on the scale.

5 weeks and weight loss has stalled

I had a stall that started at week three and lasted for three weeks. Just keep following your doctor's plan and your body will start up again. I think there's so much change going on that it kind of does a "What the heck?!!"
  23. Okay.....this is going to be one of those rambling "off your chest" sort of posts. Emotional upchucking at its best (yeah, I know, I put it so delicately, don't I? I'm such a frail southern blossom of femininity.). Seriously, though, sometimes I feel as emotionally hormonal as an adolescent! It directly correlates to a big sudden drop of weight and the release of fat locked hormones into my bloodstream. I intellectually know this, but I hate _feeling_ like this. Combine this with how stupid I feel about how _frustrated_ I feel and I feel like a mess. I guess for all of those who don't speak "Lyra" I should probably explain this.... I've spoken before about how it takes awhile for the mind to catch up to the new body. People treat you differently and suddenly you're dealing with flirting, and come-ons and half the time I'm bloody oblivious to it all because nobody has looked twice at me in years! And no, I'm not complaining, because it's awesome, but I feel like I'm speaking the same language as everybody else, but with a different dialect so that things get lost in translation. It rather reminds me of when I went to England as a teenager and had a little misunderstanding involving biscuits vs. cookies. Basically I need the Rosetta Stone for social situations. I thought I had outgrown my lack of social acumen in my late teens, but apparently not so much. I've gotten myself into some really embarrassing situations because of my oh-so-charming inability to read the bright neon social signs. Add the above together with the fact that I caught Ebola (translation: the flu) for three days and was a miserable wreck of a human and it's been a crazy week. Literally, if a ninja had suddenly broken into my home I would have gladly asked for a quick beheading. Ya'll, I highly highly HIGHLY recommend getting your flu shot this year because you don't want what I had! Granted the flu got me over my little 189ish lb stall (185 now! huzzah!) but it meant that I lost those four pounds in 3 days. Thus my poor body was inundated with hormones besides having to deal with Bubonic Plague. Add on that I feel sad (for no reason, life is good!), frustrated, exhausted, and moody and I'm sure my coworkers are loving me right now. I loathe feeling so overly emotional and finding ways to channel it has been interesting. Running seems to be the best method I've found, along with working on my artwork. Strangely enough though I don't think my bosses would like it if I went for a couple mile run when I should be decorating cakes! *amused*. I know that this too, shall pass and I'm aware enough to be able to reason out why I'm feeling this way and that that it's purely biological. If I follow the normal pattern I should be back to 'normal' within another few days as my body absorbs, processes, and resets...but man, is it aggravating while it's going on! So my query to all you fine readers out there; Does this happen to you? How do you deal with it when/if it does? Any good stories that may bring a smile to my poor, wan face? *puppy dog eyes*. The flu is good for nobody's complexion, lol!

It Seams That My Weightloss Has Stoped

You are not alone my friend! The same thing happened to me. My pattern has become, stall, drop a few, gain one......stall, drop a few, gain one......and the stall can last up to three weeks! But, in the scheme of things, we are still heading in the right direction!
  25. I'm incredibly depressed. I was sleeved on 10/3/12. The first three weeks I dropped 20 lbs. Then the dreaded stall came. I didn't loose a thing until November 16 when I dropped 3 more pounds. I haven't lost a pound since. So my total post op loss is 22 with only a two pound loss in the months of November. Has anyone had this happen to them? Does the weight loss pick up again? I feel like maybe this surgery won't work, like all the other weight loss efforts I tried . I am eating and exceeding and drinking Water. Don't know what else to do. the
