Congrats! How did your surgery go? I am very nervous to have the revision. I am 230 and want to make sure I am making the right decision!

Had my gallbladder removed and I am still vomiting and the various pain is not happening.I am going for barium swallow to see what is truly happening.He performs revisions in 2 steps.Band removal then revision.I am not jumping for joy.I have had deep vein thrombosis...I have to now put bypass back on the table.

Hi everyone! I had band to sleeve revision surgery on the 11/9/2015. My BMI was low 33.4, I have lost 17kg since surgery, just over 2 months ago! Best decision ever! I want to lose 20kg still, Nut and Surgeon say about 13kg but we will see what happen!

I had my surgery with Dr. Ortiz on April 16th 2012 and I can honestly say it was the best decision I have EVER made!!! I am down 142 lbs and I feel amazing!! I am actually on his before and after section of his website and I have a featured youtube clip. I am an advocate as Dr. Ortiz has changed my life. He and his staff took such great care of me! I have posted several times about my experience so if you search under my posts you should find more info. One of his coordinators, Lori Wrights had her band to sleeve revision the same day as me.. We call each other "sleeve sisters"!!! LOL I also use his Enspira vitamins.. I have never taken the recommended dosage (4 per day) but I try and get at least one down a day. I also take an additional B12 not because I have too... I just believe in B12 so much for overall wellness. Haven't been sick a day since my surgery. It is perfectly to be nervous this close to surgery. You are anxious to have it done since it is so close, and also nervous because it is an unknown for you at this point. You know your life is about to change and it will be forever. I wrote down the exact reasons I had the surgery in case afterwards I was having a case of regret. Putting it all in writing also helped put my mind at ease that I was making the right choice. I was a revision lap band to sleeve on 10/25/13 and I have not had any problems at all including pain from the CO2 gas and nausea. Good luck to all with your upcoming surgeries.

Hope all works out! I had two EGD-a month apart . Biggest side effect was I slept so good after getting home. Was happy the next day was Saturday. Sore throat was worse on the second one. I am a revision patient. Sleeve to DS

Hi everyone, I was revised from sleeve to RNY March 16th due to complications and severe case of GERDS and sadly I'm really regretting I'd rather had kept suffering from previous complications... I have yet to eat anything that I can keep down.... Not to mention my weight loss is at a complete halt for over a month no matter how much I work out....and I'm completely disappointed in both of these surgeries and wish I never had surgery I'm still over 200lbs.... As long as you do your research and know you are going to a good doctor there is no problem with going to Mexico. Just follow basic guidelines, don't have surgery in a clinic... only go to a hospital. Don't go to someone that sends you to a hotel for recovery, stick with someone who keeps you in a hospital for two nights after surgery. You don't need to be sitting in a hotel in TJ after surgery. Go to someone who does a barium swallow after surgery AND sends you home with the films. Go to someone who sends you home with all your lab results, chest xray films, barium swallow films, EKG, etc. Go to someone experienced with a good track record. Don't go to one of the butchers, stick with someone who is great. Don't fall for someone who sells you on charisma but skill instead. There is one TJ doc that is just a horror but he's really nice so people go to him. Be careful of who you go to regardless of country. I've seen people post here about going to the US or MX and they just love the doc they are planning on going to. If you ask them the stats of their doc they don't have any idea. Ask them if they use a hospital or clinic, inpatient or outpatient, number of bands placed, which bands, etc., they have no clue. But he's sooooo nice and apparently that makes him a skilled surgeon. Don't fall for that. Right now the going rate in MX for the good doctors is $7K. I went to MX twice, once for a band and once for a revision to a sleeve (I'm not cut out for a band) and I only wanted to go to my MX doctor. But I know his track record and I know his stats. He's great. Point being, I did my research. You need to do the same and find the right doctor for you. Good luck!

So I’m looking at a surgery day in February I’m have a lap band revision to bypass at the moment and I’m wondering after surgery how well do u digest fat

I haven't been here in a few months but I had not given up on getting VSG surgery approved. I've written some posts which tell more of my story if anyone is interested and is going through the same thing: http://www.verticals...er-suggestions/ This has been such an emotionally draining time that I wanted to share that I have finally had SUCCESS and I thank all of those who encouraged me to keep trying. I will be having a Lapband removal and revision to Sleeve - Surgery date not scheduled yet since my surgeon's office said they have to see if any pre-tests will be required. I was originally denied by UHC in August stating that I had not met their requirements since I hadn't completed a 6 month pre-op physician supervised diet. I was, however, approved for the Lapband removal due to complications. I wanted both done at the same time and found the fact that they approved one and not the other completely illogical. My surgeon's office suggested I move forward to start a physician supervised program (since UHC says it specifically cannot be a Bariatric physician). I started seeing my primary care Dr. specifically for weight loss. I had recently moved to FL so had to find a primary care Dr. to begin with. So essentially I decided to go down both tracks - appeal the denial as well as work on the six months pre-op diet so, in my mind, worst case I would still qualify by March. However, I was still upset about the whole 'principle' - or lack of - principle of requiring someone who lived with the Lapband for so long to do another 6 month pre-op diet. I sent an appeal letter to UHC and received the most ridiculous response I have ever seen - let alone another denial. They had another Dr. review my case - someone supposedly with knowlege of bariatrics and his lame reason for denying me was that since I had failed with the Lapband I would just fail again with a Sleeve and then I would be asking for a gastric bypass - almost his exact words... no lie. This infuriated me and showed a total lack of knowledge on his part in my opinion. I mean, just like that, this Dr. who does not know me at all, has never even spoken to me, let alone examined me, decides that I am just a BIG failure!!! I was told the next level of appeal would go to my employer since my employer self insures the plan or something like that. In the meantime I continued to go for my monthly Primary Dr. visits and the first few months lost about 5 lbs then after the holidays gained that back and more. I forgot to mention that my Band was unfilled back in July and my appetite has been worse than ever let alone that I can now eat a whole lot more plus things I couldn't eat for years. It took me another month or so to finally write my second appeal letter which went to my employer. By the time I sent it off it had grown to 70 pages - 2 for the letter and the rest my prior letter, denials and other medical records. The first appeal letter was 4 pages of a letter and 30 pages of records but I went ahead and obtained more records in the interim from my podiatrist, etc. I didn't intend for this post to be so long - I guess I'm kind of venting along the way so forgive me for that. I finally received a letter from my Employer the other day stating that they, too, had had another surgeon review my case who had bariatric experience and this Dr. (bless him) completed validated my case - stated that both surgeries are absolutely medically necessary and that I was correct in pointing out that UHC's own Bariatric policy contradicted them denying me both times before. I choked up as I read his words - and just praised God for his answer to my prayers! I don't have a date yet - I am supposed to hear from the Nurse at my surgeon's office on Monday to go over my health questionnaire to see if I need any pre-tests for sleep apnea, etc. I am really healthy other than my morbid obesity and even when I had Lapband in 2006 only had to have a pulmonary test done aside from the routine blood, etc. So if all goes well I may still have the surgery by the end of the month or in March. All this to say that if you are going through the same type of thing - particularly with UHC - DON'T GIVE UP!!! I'm willing to share my letter with anyone interested - email me if you want a copy. It's sad that they make us go through all of this; upon reflection it has all the more strengthened my resolve, but will still really unnecessary. As my plans progress I'll post in other topics. Hi everyone! I just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. :-) My Story: After being sleeved on 8/12/13, I had complications with nonstop vomiting. No matter what I ate or drank, it would get stuck and come right back up. A balloon dilation, 2 surgeries, and after being hospitalized for 2 weeks, I was finally revised to RNY last Sunday morning. Even though this wasn't my initial plan, I'm still upbeat and looking forward to dropping these pounds!!! *Whoop* Good luck to you all!!! I was revised to sleeve May10th 2012. Since surgery to date I lost 28 lb which does not seem alot but I am a slow loser and thats how much total weight that I previously lost with the band in 1st 6 months n then gained it all back cuz I could eat around my band. just like u no major complications but only acid reflux , food getting stuck n vomitting etc whenever I would get a fill to give me some restriction. I had the band put in in 2007 and no weight loss after April, 2008, only gaining untill i gained it all back. I was so nervous about the sleeve cuz I was afraid of failing it too, but I knew that I m not comfortable with bypass surgery so that leave me only one option and after thinking about it for 1 year, i finally did it and I am liking it cuz u m not that crazy hungary n when i eat i get full so soon. i can decide responsibly about my food choices . i also noticed that if i munch on slider food all day i dont lose but if i m sticking to rules I do loose weight, slowly but i do loose weight.

So, I've posted comments about making broth-bases in a few threads.This is a correction/ revision to what I've posted about making beef broth from bones. I posted that I don't skim the fat off the broth after boiling, because there's a negligible amount per serving in the finished product (Soup or au jus) if you make a big vat. It's been a long time since I've made beef broth, so I thought since I've been posting about it and it's that time of year, I'd make some. I do save and freeze steak bones and when making beef broth from these bones, it's true, the total fat is negligible per serving when making big vats from these. Since I don't eat that many steaks and my household has shrunk with the kids on their own, there's just not enough bones to make beef broth with- so I buy marrow bones. *HERE'S THE CORRECTION: I'd forgotten, marrow bones do have a LOT of fat that leeches into the broth. I definitely recommend skimming off the fat at the end of beef marrow-bone, broth-production, before freezing. Sorry if I misled anyone. It wasn't intentional.

Huge difference between the sleeve and the band is that they cut out the part of the stomach that generates the homone ghrelin which stimulates hunger. Between the restriction of having only 15% of your stomach and not having that hormone, you will probably not feel much hunger. With the band, you still have your full stomach and full production of ghrelin, so it's no wonder that you were never really satisfied with food. I think it is a lot easier to make good choices for food when you are not hungry. You also will not be able to eat around your sleeve, unless you intentionally are choosing sliders like milkshakes etc. Again, when you are not feeling hungry, it's a lot easier to resist stuff like that. If you look at the success rates and percent of body fat loss between the band and the sleeve, you will see that you are much more likely to reach goal and in a much shorter period of time. My surgeon told me the band is more like hiring a personal trainer and was honest that he has seen a much higher success rate among his sleeve and bypass patients than his lap band patients. In my opinion, you should not judge the potential of your future success with the sleeve based on your past experience with the band since you are comparing apples to oranges with long and short term success rates. Good luck with your decision. I hope you get some answers from people who have been there. I think I saw a thread where someone posted a link of band to sleeve revision stories. I will see if I can find it and post it here.

My revision was overnight stay. Insurance approved 3-4 days. But I did great and wanted to be in my own bed. Oh, and the band removal and RNY was all one surgery. Took 2 hrs. 5 laparoscopic incisions. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hey! Band to sleeve revision surgery date June 25th, slowly losing. Finally down 35 pounds. I've reached the 170's haven't seen that since high school. 35-40 pounds to go....

The band is more dangerous with higher complication rates than the gastric bypass and gastric sleeve. Most lap band patients also end up doing a revision surgery to bypass or sleeve. The success rate is not as good and fewer surgeons are performing this operation.

Good luck to you guys only 2 days left. Momiffivwcantwait. I opted for sleeve because I didn't like that so many people banded where going back for revision and I thought bypass was too much of a gastric surgery for me. Plication I was worried that you could never know what's going on in the part of the stomach that is sewin up. So sleeve was my best option. I hope your results are good. Praying for you.

all4gizmo. I too have struggled with a little weight gain since having a revision surgery. I have 5 cc in my band and can't tolerate more. I have had to readjust my food intake and mind. Try joing myfitnespal and logging your intake and exercise, it is helping me! Best wishes, Karen,,aka..kll724

I had implants pre-sleeve. The nice thing is that my boobs haven't shrunk visibly at all. In fact they look bigger now in relation to the rest of my body. The bad news is, my left implant has now become malpositioned due to the loss of real breast tissue above it and I will likely want a revision. Though I'm going to wait until I'm done losing for that. It's not really that noticeable. I notice it, but even my husband didn't notice it until I pointed it out to him. I was thin when I got my boobs. I pray they still look good when I drop these lbs.

Anyone one else having a revision band to sleeve on that date or first WLS surgery? My doctor is dr. Manuel Castro in Dallas and Hospital is Forest Park Medical Cemter in Dallas. We can be surgery buddies. Then join in with the Febuary Sleevers.

I was thin when I got my boobs. I pray they still look good when I drop these lbs. I was "thin" too when I got my boobs. I had lift with implants done at the same time as my tummy tuck after having lost 90 pounds "on my own". But then I regained 80 pounds before I was sleeved. Now, post-sleeve, I re-lost those 80 pounds, plus 7 more. My tummy tuck held up GREAT through the re-gain and loss. My only issue is that I now have this malpositioning of my left implant. I don't know if re-gaining breast tissue pushed it around a bit and then it because obvious when I lost that new breast tissue again or what. All I know is that I will probably end up getting a revision. Not in a rush though. It's really only noticeable to me. My husband doesn't care and you can't possibly notice it if I'm wearing clothes or a bra.
