    The Boomer Chat Room

Have to share a NSV, even though I'm not sleeved. LOL The other day I dug out my tape measure because I thought I should get a baseline before surgery. I have in the past measured myself, and would put it away in disgust. So, I drag it out and start with my waist. I couldn't believe it. I am 7" smaller in the waist. WTH? I thought that was unbelievable, but then I was weighed today at the doctor's office. I have lost 13 lbs. in the last 3 weeks. I started my pre-op diet Friday, but still... I am dropping weight like a weightlifter. As of today I have lost 63 lbs. from my highest weight. I can't even imagine how much more I'll lose as I still have 10 days to go on the pre-op. And then surgery ... Wow!
  2. I'm wondering if I'm the only one in a "funk" at this point. Haven't dropped a pound in 4+ weeks. (Well...I have lost...up 2 down 2 a dozen times LOL) There are moments I have tinges of regret when I realize I got this far in WW in the past. Is this it? I should also point out that if this happened to me any other time I'd say screw it and open a bag of chips. That's not happening ! My "logical" brain kicks in and says to keep with the program. This stall will break. I've had more nsv's than I can recount. I try to focus on them, not the scale. I'm also dealing with a bone spur in my hip. Going to PT. But wouldn't be surprised if I'll need surgery on it. I really don't want another surgery. Grr. It's holding me back. I'm so happy for everyone's success. Hoping I can start posting more news about weight loss soon! Later losers! :-)

Do you set short term goals?

I have several NSV type goals...but as far as the actual weight goes (# wise)...they way I look at it is "ooooh, I can't wait to get into the 230s."....then the "220s" then the "2teens" etc etc (I've been doing this since I was in the "270s" and it works for me. I don't even care how long it takes me to get to the next set of "10s"....as long as I get there. So, there really isn't even a deadline for these "minis". It seems less oppressive and daunting to me that way...I can't look at my end goal or it's disturbing!!! LOL

    Clothing

My feet didn't get smaller, just not so fat and swollen. So my feet aren't any shorter but my shoes swim on me now. I do love TJ Maxx and Ross. My personal motto is "Never pay full price for anything". I wish I had a Macy's close. I was quite excited finding a couple of tops on clearance at Kohl's. They are Vera Wangs. I have never been able to wear anything she made. Cool NSV.

    Surgeon Disappointed 😞

I only lost 15 my first month. I am 6 months out and have lost 85 total although 10 of it is after a revision last week as an emergency. I had a perforated ulcer which is rare. Do you still work with a nutritionist? If not I highly recommend it. Mine has been awesome! Especially when I had stalls and felt really down like you. They kept telling me that my body has had significant trauma from surgery and is trying to figure out what the heck just happened. I agree with a comment above about it being a marathon. I thought I was losing slow but to see my total weight loss after 6 months I feel better. Maybe put your scale away and weigh in once a month. Also track your NSV’s. I had 6 weeks of no weight loss but I went down a whole pant size!

    I can't believe it.......

@grandmaofone Go Grandma! Go Grandma! Waaaaay to rock that NSV !!!! :)
  7. hi everyone, i was banded 3/30/07 by dr spivak. getting the lapband was the best decision i ever made. it is one tool of many we need to lose weight. i am still a work in progress trying to maintain. enjoy the ride. it is exciting when you have the NSV's in addition to the scale victories. such as getting into a smaller size, seeing my collar bones for the first time in years (this was big for me), not shopping in lane bryant. i lived until recently in Katy. since beeing banded i met a great guy and we are getting married in october. the best gift of the band is to get my self respect back... anyway best of luck to all my texas sisters and brothers. there are alo of us on the site which is nice... josie

How's this for an NSV? Do it! It will be the best decision you ever made. I actually wore that bikini in public last week up in Byron and it was the BEST feeling.

    NSV 4 me!

Well I had one set of smaller size clothing set back having gotten rid of all my previous sizes. Pre-op I was in a 52 pants and they were just about cutting me in two they were so freakin' tight. I had a few pairs of 46s and wore them till they were almost comically baggy. I finally went shopping for new britches a week ago Saturday. I tried on a 42 and they fit about right, a little loose but not too loose around the waist, I then tried on a 40 and they were kind of snug. So I ended up buying 2 pair, the 42 and the 40. I ordered a pair of jeans (I like a certain brand - Deluth Trading) in 40s thinking it would be OK to wait a week or two till they were comfortable. Well I wear my pants for 4 days M-T (please no comments I work in an office and just don't get them dirty, EVERYTHING else gets changed daily) and jeans on Friday. By Thursday I noticed the 42s were getting kind of loose. The size 40 mail order jeans came Thursday so I washed 'em up in order to try them on Friday morning fully expecting to have them NOT fit yet. To my shock they fit fine and the legs are a little baggy at that. In 4 months I've gone from a TIGHT 52 to a comfortable 40, that's 12 inches lost around my waist! I've been a cheapskate and refused to get a new belt. My belt goes around me and then again about 30% almost 16" stick out past the buckle! Jeez, I love this sleeve!
  10. I hope it all starts getting better for you. Keep your eye on the prize. It won't be long until we are filling up the NSV thread

How are the May sleevers doing?

It is awesome to hear that you are seeing so many non scale victories! I committed myself to focusing more on my NSVs in the last two weeks, which has helped me get away from some of the negative feelings I was spiraling into due to my "slow" progress. In the mean time, my weight loss started to pick back up. I actually lost 5.8 lbs in the last two weeks, which is amazing. I switched trainers, and workout methods, and it seems to have woken up my metabolism. NSVs: I have found that I can do just about any physical activity without getting winded in the first minute or two, though I haven't tried any long cardio endurance tests just yet. I am happy to be able to make it through my Personal Training sessions and 30-45 min cardio sessions without giving up. I dropped from a size 24/26 to a size 18 pants and from a 3X Plus size to an XL Women's size tops. My feet are getting smaller already I can sit in arm chairs with ease. My eating and vitamin taking habits are becoming second nature. I'm working on water still! People are starting to ask me for advice on snacks and what to eat. (Me, really, did you just ask ME that?) I lost 7 inches!! off of the largest circumference of my body that I have been tracking. I cleaned out my closet of everything that is too big and donated to my mom and sister. I had 7 trash bags of clothes and shoes that I will hopefully NEVER be able to fit into again. I moved up two notches on my watch band. I am losing weight in my hands and arms like crazy!

August post op sleevers: Check in

We'll today was all about the NSV's put on an outfit and DH looked at me and said your not going to wear that "your swimming in it" so off I went to closet shop, pulled out a large shirt and it fit, tried on a pair of 16 jeans and they fit too (started in XXL and 20's). Pulled out the measure tape and I've lost eight inches in my waist I am thankful for my sleeve and the support of my DH, DR, NUT and all of you.

  15. Update: 7 Weeks Post - 198.4lbs (-24lbs from SW of 222.4lbs--hey, that's 3.4lbs/wk--I'll take it!!!) Basic Macros for 6 Weeks: 450-550 cals; 60-65g protein; <25g fat; <20g carbs Food Volume: 1/2c by volume ALWAYS. I go by volume first. That's about 1.75-2oz protein; 1/2-1oz veggies (no more than 3.5oz by weight) Wow! Big things happened this week, not least of which were doctor appointments that resulted in changing up medications and also discontinuing a medication! Yippeee!!! The cardiologist took me off one of my big time BP drugs and started up a diuretic again -- a different one though. It seems to really help. My BP looks better than before and I'm slowly losing my cankles. Thank you sweet baby Jesus! And my pulmonologist said we should try to discontinue an asthma drug I've been on since about 2000. It's an inhaled steroid and there can be weight gain associated with it. So far, so good on both changes! And the happy miracle is that this week, I've lost about about 8lbs. Now, before everyone goes all sappy. Let me just remind you that most or all of that is fluid. Not real fat loss. But hey, carrying around 8lbs less fluid is grrrrrrEAT! Haha, see what I did there? I also had a NSV! I appropriated a pair of jeans from Mr. No-Hiney himself. They are too big in the waist, but I fill the hiney just fine. They make a great pair of boyfriend jeans. And that means, I can just borrow them and not have to buy anything. Yay me! It's the first time I can claim being more than 25lbs lighter than him since we met! In fact, I haven't been this weight since about 2000. Wowza! I still can't admit that I feel like I'm actually gonna make goal. I'm working on that one. I know it "will come" with time and continued success. But I look at the scale at 198 and think..."Gah! I can't wait until I'm 160lbs again." That was the weight I was when Mr. F. and I first met. And I felt sorta kinda like "all that and a bucket of fried chicken too." I thought I was Miss Thang! Cuz, you know, I was only 10lbs more than my high school weight. LOL. OMG. So weird. I'm still eating repetitiously of the same foods I know I can tolerate (which is a pretty broad food list!). At 6 weeks I'm still eating 1/2c by volume. And I try to limit the weight of any meal to about 3 to 3.5oz max by weight. I honestly don't know if my tummy is talking to my brain. Mainly cuz I think 1/2c volume stretches my tummy, but it doesn't stretch it to top/full capacity. So I'm just abiding by the set volume and knowing that I'm probably safe with that quantity and will do no harm. I'm not gonna test it to see if I can actually eat 3/4c of food by volume. You know? I'm getting about 60-65g of protein in each day and most of that is coming from foods. I look forward to the day (God I hope I don't regret this thought...) when I CAN eat 3/4c of food because I'd like to add in that 1/4c of low carb veggies. So far, I'm staying very low carb, less than 20g per day total carbs. I'm eating protein, a TINY bit of fat from spray EVOO, and eating about 1/2-1oz (weight) of veggies per meal. That leaves me with 1.75-2oz (weight) of protein per meal. It's right on target with the amounts my RD has in the BIG BOOK OF BARIATRICS. LOL. My calories still average between 450-550cals/day. I'm getting in all of my water each day with a minimum of 100fl oz and often going as much as 120fl oz. So all in all--a good and productive week. I'll be back next week to report more.

    Very discourged

@@Munecagirl85 - stalls. Get used to them, stalls, they happen:/ There is no set time-line, number of pounds lost, etc for when a stall occurs. Measure yourself, try on clothing that was snug - those are both NSVs (non scale victories). Stay the course! Get rid of your scale for now. weigh once a month or every week.
  19. I had surgery July 2018 and was 390 at my heaviest. The day of surgery I was 368 and today I am 257. I have lost 133 pounds! Weight loss is definitely harder at 9 months out. I am trying to go to the gym three times a week, but I can’t always make it due to my work commute and kid obligations. My goal is to make it to 230 by my one year anniversary this summer, but I am almost doubting myself. I lost weight quickly during the honeymoon period so at five months I had already lost well over 100 pounds, but sticking to a plan and hoping for a positive outcome. The best part is dropping six pant sizes. I use to be a 26/28 and now size 16 in regular woman section. The biggest NSV has been able to fit and ride in a roller coaster after almost 18 years of riding one for the last time. I rode 4 roller coasters with my boys a few weeks ago at an amusement park. Looking forward to traveling in an airplane next week without having to use a seatbelt extender. Congrats to all on your success!
  20. My highest weight was 420/421 and my surgery weight was 412. I'm now around 364 after hitting a stall at 375 that had me freaking out a bit. Just seeing 364 on a scale is mindblowing after not being in the 300s for so long. My 3 month post-op visit with my surgeon is this Thursday I'm hoping to have lost 50 lbs by that appointment though my official 3 month post-op date is on the 23rd. NSVs include wearing shoes that I couldn't years ago, moving into 3X clothing, and feeling (but not yet seeing) my collarbone. This whole process is still surreal. I hated being in the 300s but I'm so happy to be here now and will continue to work until I'm in the 200s. Who knows, I may even hit onederland! Congratulations, ladies, for continuing to smash your goals and don't forget to reap those Non-Scale Victories! Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

Will it ever start to work?

Hi Jini, chances are, it will start working for you soon. Trust me when I say that I don't know if you will lose weight. I've lost 13 pounds since April, so that is a chance that you might be a slow loser. I know that there are few things as frustrating as having weight loss surgery, then not losing any weight. I understand the frustration and the feelings of failure that come with slow weight loss. Do not let the scale dictate to you your sucess. I know, easy words to type, but for your own sense of sanity, you must find some other way to measure your sucess. I strongly suggest starting your list of Non-scale victories, your NSVs. You don't have to post them, but I find it is very helpful to look back at them, and I know that other people find them helpful to look at as well. I wish I could make it all better, make it so you had losses in the numbers like you are looking for. But all I can tell you is that you are not alone. As hard as it is, you are not alone.

Starting over, 5 years after surgery

DeAnna, great job making it one week. And good going on the NSV's. Those are always exciting. My NSV for yesterday was that I had not been able to have my Protein shake in the morning so I told myself that I would have it for dinner. Well, I have a class on sunday evenings and we take turns bringing in Snacks to eat. The girl whose turn it was had brought in a crockpot of chili with all of the trimmings. cheese, onion, fritos and more. I actually sat there and let everyone else eat and I drank my Water. I was so proud of myself. So as we were moving into another section of the building I was bringing up the rear end with another lady and our teacher and I was telling them about not eating so I could have my Protein Shake when I got home, and I told them how hard it was because it all smelt so good. Get this, both of them at the same time said I did the right thing because it didn't taste that good. So glad I held my ground. Finally got home and had my banana and Peanut Butter protein shake. It never tasted so good. Now to make it thru another day. This truly is a day to day thing. I'll worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. And no more excuses or trying to fool myself thinking I can do or eat something and think I can explain it off.

    January Sleevers ❄️

Ugh I can't wait til I'm in the onederland numbers. I still have so far to go and it is taking a long time mentally but in reality I know it is not bad at all. I started going to the gym this week for 90 mins of cardio and I do 50 mins of strength training with my trainer. I have manage to burn off more then what I eat every day which I think pushed me over my stall. THANK GOODNESS....I really don't seem to mentally handle the stalls very well. I know I should be patient cause I tell others to but man it is really annoying. I did take my monthly pics and I can not see the different but I def can feel the difference. I'm down three pant sizes and I can fit into old clothes but in the pic I just can not see a difference. I think that will be the best NSV for me when I can really see a difference. I'm super proud of everyone on this thread. I think we are all doing so well. A year ago I did not think I would ever see this weight again and I'm glad I finally decided to take my life back and break up with my addiction to food, Well, I'll always be addicted but now I have learned how to fight it!

    January Sleevers ❄️

I'm still in a scale stall at almost one month but I have lost some inches AND my blood pressure has gone down so much I was taken off those meds. Oh and also my blood sugar seems to have normalized around 90. Down from the 150s. Some little NSVs for me. @@Veronica Page I'm really happy for your loss. You're exactly one week ahead of me.

    new to it all

Question 3, the answer is Lap Band Talk, as in LapBandTalk.com. Question 4, I think the question is what is NSV? They are Non Surgical Victories. Question 2, make WHAT easier, hon? Question 1, not a clue. DW used Dr. Jayaseelan, BlueCrossBlueShield insurance, Pine Creek Medical Center. Good luck with the reduction...
