Jeez, Louise!!!! I haven't been on this forum lately, as I'm going to be a March bandster. You've DEFINITELY been tested on this one! Maybe after all of this you can start doing presentations on how to deal with insurance companies! One positive thing to keep in mind is at least BC/BC covers this type of surgery. The insurance that I had with my previous employer not only did not cover lapband/gastric surgeries, they didn't even cover medically necessary breast reductions! Thank God that they know that these things are physically beneficial in the long run! I pray ya hear your good news today......SOON! Keep your chin up!

Happiness
nervousnelly719 replied to nervousnelly719's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today is one week postop ... I feel pretty amazing considering how I felt .. I was very in tune with my body pre op and now I feel like I am getting to know myself again which can be challanging at times. On Saturday night my friend had a birthday at a steakhouse and I went. Had only Water and left before the food came out. My energy was up and I didn't want to miss it. I try to walk as much as I can. Physically and mentally I get better every day. I am very excited to finally have a new normal which I am realizing Takes time. I have been taking normal sips and even guzzled water the other day bc I forgot I couldn't and was actually OK. My throat and ear has been hurting so bad. I wasn't taking my acid reflux meds bc I really hate meds and once I did I instantly felt so much better. I've decided to just take them for the best couple of months. My next app is this Wednesday and I look forward to seeing the doctor. How are you doing ? -
Veterans ONLY please. One year + post op.
ladyslim2015 replied to LipstickLady's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I'm glad to find this thread bc I just recently uninstalled the app from my phone and was going to stop using it. All I saw was new ppl with new sleeve questions when I'm almost have 2 yr post op and have questions and need motivation. I need to maintain my weight. I've gain and am terrified. I stopped logging my meals bc w far I was surpassing it and just plain shame. I got this once in a lifetime tool and I feel like I used and abused it. I need help to get back on track. -
Look. I think you need to get real and embrace this sh*t! It's a stage. We ALL go through it and it's one of the miracle wonders of the honeymoon period. So here's your job: Some how, SOME WAY, get your protein need met everyday. I frankly don't care how you do it. Drink 2 protein drinks. Done. Drink a protein drink and have some meat. I don't care. Just MEET YOUR PROTEIN GOAL. The End. Anything else is unnecessary. Now, do NOT allow the snacking bs to re-enter your life. Quit it. Or I swear you will sabotage your surgery. It has a way of sneaking in when you least want it. Do not allow your food innervation to help rationalize your poor choices. Of COURSE snacky slidery food is easy to eat. It's what we want. It's what appeals. The food companies have spent billions addicting us!!! And making the food extra appealing. So you MUST break up with it. Seriously. (I hate posts like this...)

Diabetes and The Sleeve
Tiffykins replied to PhatmanWalkin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've read several successful stories on obesityhelp stating that once patients dropped 50-75lbs their diabetes was completely resolved, and they were living med free with normal bs levels. Within this presentation (Slide 18) it states 83% out of 1,000 patients over a 5 year time frame had resolution of their diabetes. http://www.ssat.com/video/2008/SSAT%2049th%20Annual%20Meeting(3)-Cirangle.htm -

2 days? That's awesome. I think my packet got submitted yesterday (I'm worried about calling my surgeon office too much to bug them) for BCBS Fed Basic and I am on pins and needles waiting! Can I ask, are either of you the covered employee? I'm on my husband's plan and I wonder if that will make a difference.

Wheetsin, I have a name for one other set of body parts: The "girls". I used to joke that the "girls" had to be fed whenever I ate because I was always dropping food on my shirts. I don't do that much anymore. My shirts AND the girls thank me for it. Most other body parts get called by their real names (arms, legs, butt, etc) unless one or more of them is hurting, then there's often a swear word in front of the name. That's usually when I'm on the Helliptical (thanks for the name BK Mama).

Just free weights. I own 1lb., 5lb. and 10lb. ones. I used to have a weight bench and curl bar so I could add weight onto it. You can google curl bar and see what I mean or I can point you to some links. I had to sell the weight bench and curl bar, unfortunately, bc I have tendon and ligament issues and am only allowed to lift up to 10 lbs. That's why I now use free weights. Oh, and these tendon and ligament issues have nothing to do with the DS. They began long before I had it done.

Post-op hypoglycemia that is NOT reactive hypoglycemia
Maisey replied to GreenThumb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also have been off diabetes meds since the day of surgery. Every fasting BS I've taken has been in the 75-100 range. I will have my first labs done in 2 weeks. For the first time, I am looking forward to the results. I have felt shaky a few times. However, when I then test, I am safely in the normal range. I once heard that when someone who has had higher blood sugars over time begins to have more normal blood sugars due to treatment, that the normal sugars can feel like lows. I have no idea if that is actually true and I don't remember if I heard it from a reliable source. -

Well, I have gained 14 pounds since DOS so I am really depressed, I know it's early but it feels like this isn't worth anything, I literally eaten NO FOOD for 2 weeks, so that's how you know calories in/calories out is BS...I am so angry and I am going to bed . -

How long after surgery did it take you to feel normal?
jami.1992 replied to Tim C's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had gastric bypass 5-14-20....it took about 3 months for me to feel what I would consider “normal”. The soreness and fatigue was gone after 4-6 weeks. I had some depression after my surgery due to not feeling like I could participate in family functions bc everything in my family was centered around food. Also most of my family didn’t know I had WLS. So lots of factors (that were my choice) played into that. But as of today I am 9 months post-op and have lost 130 pounds! I have more energy and I am happier than I have ever been. ❤️ Congrats on your surgery!! Wishing you happiness and a speedy recovery! -
5 year post gastric bypass weight gain
lizonaplane replied to NuOutlook's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
You look great, but I am sure you definitely want to take off that regain! I have heard those "reset" liquid diets are a bunch of bs - really the reason for the liquid diet right after surgery is to protect the staples/sutures and the new stomach, not to lose weight faster. Instead, I would focus on the basics: protein and veggies, and water and I know for me, I only have ever lost weight when I kept track of calories/macros. (I haven't had surgery yet, but I plan to track after surgery too). We're here for you! You can do it! -
What to do until fill????
letschat replied to singermama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you...It is pretty funny! My doctor laughs at me also. I have 2 teens and a 4yr old and they are eating pizza(smell drives me) and chocolate and everything I love. I have to remember that just bc my eating habits have changed everyone around me is still the same. I need to learn to go shopping or something during these really hard times. Knowing me I will change from over eating to over spending. lol Today is a new Day! I will be o.k until Wednesday 5/7 first fill and then 2nd fill will be on 5/21. It's funny how I look forward to the first fill but it also gives me so much anxiety (pain, needles WHAT). The very thought makes my blood pressure rise. lol Have a wonderful Day! -
I was sleeved 10/09/13 and Sunday weighed 207 got on the scale today and was 212.5 which there is just no way. I'm wondering if anyone noticed a fluctuation when they went back to using birth control pills? I almost forgot I started taking my BC again on Monday so was wondering that's the culprit

My Dr told me coronation will not stretch your pouch. And that it may cause pressure but its bc of the coronation and you'll just feel like burping a lot. He said if you drink pop, drink diet. He said people think its bad but diet really isn't. -
I'm on the first day of my liquid diet.. i started a day early bc my surgeon said no more weight gain, whatsoever.. so im hoping that the diet & walking will get me down enough for her to cont with surgery on the day of. im sooo terrified that she'll cancel the morning of and ill get extra disappointed/depressed & won't wanna do the program anymore.. if anyone has any liquid diet tips, pls let me know!!!

Have you started preparing for surgery?
ashleey921 replied to Karikatur's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Im scheduled for 9/1. I started my pre op diet early on 8/1 just to prepare myself and to try and lose a few pounds before surgery, with a few cheats here and there. I am currently doing strictly protein shakes, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles, soups, sugar free pudding, unsweetened applesauce, and I've pureed veggies a few times. My doctor is very adamant that no weight is gained before surgery. My weight fluctuates so much, I thought I'd be losing barely eating anything basically starving myself and compared to others Im not losing like I thought I would. My surgeons pre op diet requires that I only eat meat, green veggies, eggs and cheese, but I chose not to bc I can gain weight like nothing. Im losing/maintaining my weight. He did inform me that a few pounds gained is ok as long as I didnt go overboard and gain 10-15lbs I will be ok. But of course I am still worried because Im about 2 pounds over my initial weight with him. I see him for pre op next tues 8/29 then surgery on friday 9/1. I pray everything is ok and I can have my surgery. I think I might just eliminate all solids from today on and drink my shakes and have broth until my surgery date. -
Have you started preparing for surgery?
ashleey921 replied to Karikatur's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, all of my primary care drs would annoy me too with "eat a low calorie diet and exercise" which is clearly what Ive been doing lol. I researched PCOS and I literally had every symptom, so I brought that to their attention and I was told I didnt have that either by my pcp. So I saw an endocronologist who specializes in pcos, weightloss, hormone imbalances, thyroid issues, diabetes etc. He diagnosed me, but after years of trying to lose weight on my own and seeing that a symptom of pcos is weight gain and its harder for us to lose weight I knew that's what I had and after I was formally diagnosed is when i decided to have the surgery. I can lose 10lbs and gain 15 more it was a never ending cycle that needs to stop bc it is now affecting my health. -
I have been taking Yasmin since last September, I did gain some weight back then but I do not attrribute it to the BC as there wer some other things going on at the time. I was band 1/31 and it has not effected my weight loss.

Yeah, I saw it. Another load of fresh smelling BS. Amazing how Dr. Neal has a much different memory vs. the coat thief.
