    PCOS - Banding Benefits

I have it- I have done really well with the weight loss. PCOS doctor didn't think I would do as well as I have. I have been able to cut my metformin in half- I tried cutting it all out- but I lost my cycle again. I will say or warn you- I had a period ever 13-16 days for the first 9 months of my banding. Doctor felt it was due to the losing weight then "dumping" the estrogen stored in that fat therefore causing the hormone spike that starts your cycle. But after 10 months I am finally back to normal (well as normal as I could be) I occasionally still have spikes- my acne is slightly better- but I think the met did more of that and I still have hair in weird places- but it isn't falling out (however could be do to Protein intake) I also had a baby before banding- 13 years of trying then two adoptions baby out of blue then another adoption. SO I am up to four. If we get pregnant again I will be happy- because I really want to look pregnant- I never looked pregnant just fatter! (I actually lost 50 lbs when pregnant- but 330 to 279 didn't make that much difference) Good luck!

    PCOS - Banding Benefits

I've been diagnosed with PCOS since I was 14; I am almost 26 now. I have only had 1 period that wasn't started with medication in my life. Since I had surgery 5 months ago, I still have to take my medicine, but now instead of taking all 10 days worth, I only take 5 days worth -- I am getting there! Never had the acne issue. My H1AC was always on the higher end, but normal. Those are now squarely in the middle. I am only 5 months out, but 50% of my excess weight is gone -- I am hoping for even better results! jayme

    band tight today

andielmt, We are like DITTO of eachother. I was banded on 11/19/07 too!! I was down 21 pounds by Christmas. I've lost 38 pounds, my stomach feels achey about an hour after I eat. I too can feel my band. My tummy just hurts sometimes. Not even after eating and it is NOT my port. It hurts at all times of the day. It doesn't seem to have a reason. I feel tight when I'm REALLY stressed out. I did my taxes last weekend and I got myself so worked up I gagged on two bites of chicken, it got stuck then I slimed in the toilet. I haven't PBed yet. I didn't notice any difference after my first fill on January 11th. I'm having a second one tomorrow. I was noticing I can eat more and more and I'm also at a plateau of sorts. 1 pound a week is a little slow.
  4. I am 10 days post-op & Unjury whey and soy protein powder makes me extremely nauseated. Thought it was the whey but soy did the same today. Now I'm at a loss to why.

    1500 calories pre surgery

The difference is: I have a band EVERY DAY. I can't conveniently forget that I'm on a diet, or make exceptions because of an office party or a vacation. Calorie-wise, a bad day with the band is still a good day in diet-land. Pre-band, 1200 calories felt like a really strict diet. Post-band, it feels like a ton of food. I'm truly satisfied eating smaller portions now (well, I would be if I'd stop eating just one bite SOONER ). I've lost weight successfully in the past, but the tipping point was always me eyeballing portions, and those portions slowly growing larger. The LapBand just won't allow me to sneak in that extra 10% without sliming.
  6. Hey guys i am in no way new to the forum..but i have made my decision to be banded after 5 years! yes i said 5 years. Between being sick for 3 of those years and trying on my own; i researched this for 5 years so i beleive with all my heart it can not be said that i am going into this blindly! ive had some resistance from family and friends...but for once! its not about them it is about me. I am doing this for me!! My surgery date is June 28th 2011 :) i am excited and a bit nervous all the same..but i am happy to say i am on board and can not wait to make all your aquantaices and be on the losers bench with you all
  7. Hello all, I'm 7 days post surgery...I'm so happy I'm feeling better but nobody told me that I would have terrible shoulder pain from the gas inserted into my stomach during surgery would be so painful. It was more painful than childbirth..LOL my shoulder still aches but the pain is manageable because I'm active and walked daily. I slept on my back for 5 days straight because turning on my sides just hard so bad and I could fill my port moving. I really did not drink or eat much Soup for the first 5 days because of my shoulder pain. After the 6 day, I decided to eat kid cup of sugar free ice cream and had no problems. I also made some devil eggs on Sunday and was able to eat two devil eggs minus the relish with no problems . Well its Monday, 11/10/14 and I had my first post surgery appt. with my doctor. I jump on the scale with my shoes off:) I was so surprised that I lost 18 lbs. I'm so happy:) my doctor told me that when he placed my band he added 4cc of Fluid. I was shocked because I thought I would not get my first fill for several weeks? maybe that's why I did not want to drink much and felt content? I don't know. My doctor told me that he would not add any more fluid into my band if I continue to lose weight. I'm scheduled to go back for my 2nd doctor appt. on 12/08/14 I'm nervous because I plan on exercising and limiting my calories intake to 1200 or less but I really don't feel any restrictions? Any thoughts? Thanks Cindy

    Apology

I am very sorry I haven't been in to chat and visit with everyone. Unfortunately the lapband and weight loss has been the furthest from my mind as of late. My most favorite aunt has been suffering for a long time with cancer, they recently told her there was nothing more they could do for her, that she had 10 days to 10 weeks, go home drink martinis and enjoy the rest of your life. She did. And she left us Wednesday. I have been an emotional roller coaster since. I want to feel good about this. Finally she isnt suffering, there is no pain in eating and drinking, no pain in her body. But we (her entire extended family) were just not ready to let her go. I started the first day with Cookies, but soon started feeling like I needed to DO something. So I drained all 5000 gallons of my pool and leveled the ground beneth it properly, in the 102 degree (heat index) heat. The more the sweat poured off me the better I felt. Unfortunatly this hasnt made a dent in my weight but right now I just dont care. As long as I am moving and working I am ok. If I stop and be still I loose it. If I am alone, I loose it. And she would be very upset with me for that. So I work my butt off so I don't think about it. This has been my life lately. I will be back soon, I just need some time to get over this. All my best!

    High Blood Sugar AM

I am currently taking onglyza 5mg in the am and glimpiride 2 mg in the pm. Prior to surgery I was taking Janumet am & pm, glimpiride 4 mg am & pm as well as 10 units of Lantus at bedtime. I have tried Peanut Butter, string cheese, cream cheese & celery, a scrambled egg and a few bites of chicken or shrimp (just one or the other). I will just muddle through until I can get into my PCP.
  12. What pain meds did they give you and did they work? how much pain were you after surgery and how long did it last? from a scale from 1-10 10 being the worst pain ever how would u rate it?

    CPAP

Thank you both for your thoughts. I'm still trying to stay vigilant and keep trying every night. Last night I took it off after an hour (longest it's taken me to fall asleep) because I wasn't falling asleep and the leaks were killing me. After I took it off I was asleep within 10 minutes.
  14. I start my diet on the 20th Who is doing your surgery? I'm getting mine done in Norman by Dr Ronnie Keith I'm hoping the 10 day diet will fly by lol I'm just sooo ready I feel like iv been waiting forever! CPAP

I've only been using my CPAP for about 10 days. I have the pillows. They don't bother my nose so much, but I wake up with dry mouth and a headache. I think I'm actually sleeping less than I did without it. But, I am breathing better all day. I have asthma so maybe it's helping that? Going to call tomorrow to see if I can do anything to get rid of dry mouth and headaches. Sent from my iPhone using VST
  16. Ughh! Well I'm waiting on the news from my 2nd level appeal and honestly hoping this flu will help me in needing to lose my 10 lbs per doc. Lose my appetite. But feel horrible none the less. Hope everyone stays well during this crazy flu season!!!

    2015 Who's ready?

Hi! I had my surgery 01/06/2015 and I feel great . Weight is still down but not without 1 or 2 bumps. I started grazing. (Eating small meals all day) because my appetite had kicked in but I was unable to eat more than a little bit at a time. Once I realize what I was doing, I was able to gain control over my appetite and maintain by adding in liquids between meals. I swim and exercise three times a week. I make sure that vegetables and soft fish is a part of my daily meals which are small to begin with. There are a lot of foods that I can't eat because Of texture or thickness or being to greasy. Popcorn is my life I love it and can tolerate it. It's the perfect snack or meal for me! Which ever I want it to be at the time. I just go with the flow. The surgery worked really well for me and I count myself as being one of the lucky one to have little or no major drama or set backs. I still have to work at it, but I went into this knowing that this was my second chance at life and I'm not afraid to do the leg work. Nothing is easy in life, but it don't have to be to hard either with a made up mind. Be encouraged my friends!! Fighting!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. Hello everyone! I was banded 01/24/13. Down 35 lbs. Today I decided to dress up but I needed to wear a spanx to accomplish the look. I don't know if its the spanx or band, but I have not been able to keep food down all day. Hopefully when I take off the spanx I'll be able to eat.

    Not loosing

I am the plateau queen. Hang in there, it will start up again. I lost 19 pounds in 10 days and then nothing again for about six weeks. It's tough to "wait" but eventually everything kicks in.
  20. My name is Hutch - I have a tentative date of May 9th with Dr Aceeves in Mexi -Cali I am a truck driver and struggle with weight loss so I have made the decision to be sleeved. I am nervous but not scared. I have been 100 lbs overweight for the last 10 years and I have tried every diet imaginable - and they work for a minute and then fail. I have no one to blame but myself. I have diabetes, sleep apnea, asthma and planter faciatias in my feet which causes me alot of pain. I hope and pray that after the surgery with time these conditions that I mention will go away. I recently got married to a beautiful woman that was sleeved in Janurary,2010- and when she said that I needed to get a passport I thought she was excited about going on vacation but little did I know she had other plans - I am happy though because I feel that this is the best decision for me and for us to live a long and healthy life together. If you all will join me in my upcoming journey I would greatly appreciate all of ur help and support. Thank you and God bless, Hutch

Day One POST-op! Any others :)

I am getting sleeved on 12/10 and am super nervous. Hearing you do so well on post op day one is encouraging
  22. In a previous thread, I was bemoaning the fact (ok, whining a bit) about the fact that my nutritionist wouldn't give me a straight answer as far as how many calories (et cetera) I was supposed to be sticking to post-surgery in order to lose weight... Being the data geek that I am however, I might have been able to figure it out myself but wanted some confirmation of my thoughts. Over the past several weeks, I've been "stair stepping" my weight loss. Between 7-10 days to lose a pound or so. Fat is burned off at a typical rate of 3500 calories per pound, right? Looking over my MFP log, I seem to be consuming between 800 to 1200 calories per day, so given the idea of sitting on a 10-day plateau, running an assumed 350 calorie deficit, can I presume that my post-op "maintain weight" calorie count is somewhere between 1200 and 1300 calories? I know Protein and exercise are more important. I'm now getting my protein (between 70 to 110 grams per day) but I still have physical limitations (and mental ones too) that keep me from exercising as I should. Thoughts? Wayne

    My hubbie hates me, lmao

I'm happy for you. But I don't know how she could know your staple/suture line is healed by looking at your outside. So go easy. Very easy. I was also lucky pain wise. I was only on regular strength tylenol from about 12 hours after surgery. The high test was making me sick. I did have pain in my shoulder but it was about 10 days later before I realized it might have been the gas. And I still don't know where the gas went as none left me that I knew of. And the weight loss is amazing!! Be careful and go slow, but in other ways you are tearing up the track!
  24. I everyone! I had a band in from '08-'10 and just now had the gsv. I am wondering what are the major differences between the two that those who have undergone both processes notice. I'm only a few days post-op so any head's up would be helpful!
  25. Well congrats on quitting smoking, thats got to be very difficult!! But yeah i just went to my month three group appt and should be having surgery around the same time you are. The only thing i am worried about is my weight gain before surgery. I was unaware until i came upon this site that we have to actually LOSE weight before the surgery. I was kinda border line on the diet, so i figured that the only bad thing would be to lose too much weight. Then i justified my eating because i wouldnt be able to eat what i want after the surgery. Needless to say, im up 10 more pounds in the three months. So now after reading the helpful posts about maintaining or losing weight, i know i have to lose that 10 pounds and then some. lol.. im trying to stay focus and not worry too much but just eat healthy. I know i could do it if i could exercise. So im trying to join the gym, there just so freakin expensive. What are you doing to burn calories?? i would love ideas, i just cant go outside too much right now cuz i have a toddler son that shouldnt be out in the cold weather. and btw, thanks for your response
