  1. Your protein sounds great. My goal is 80. I'm only 3 weeks post op and at about 650 calories a day. Have you been gaining muscle? And are you eating a lot of high fat foods? those might contribute to the weight gain

It might be a fine line...

I took my dog to the vet for her vaccinations last fall. As we were leaving, my vet (please picture a tall, proper, grey haired Russian woman with a thick accent) stated to me, "you must be vigilant about winter weight gain." And as I looked up to respond to her, she continued, "also, for the dog." Layla is my five year old mutt, four legged trash can. She's a German shepherd, lab and corgi mix and I adore her. 3. I have been on Paxil for GAD since 2000 when I was 120 lbs of solid muscle. I've tried weaning down my dosage or changing meds and never been able to come off it. But, since it's cheap now, I don't think it's a bad thing to be on. It had nothing to do with my weight gain, btw. You should see your GP about trying a SSRI/NSSRI. You may be able to take it short term, as most people do. It should not medically affect your surgery in any way. Self medicating is always a bad idea, especially since (#1. you're not a doctor and #2.) valium can cause hypotension and reduce the amount of oxygen to the heart muscle, so if you were having a heart attack, would be more harm than good. p.s. I'm not a doctor either!
  4. @@donny how's it going. I'm trying to start a similar regime myself. 3.75 yrs out, never got to goal (got within 5lb) . I'm now admitting for the first time in public that I'm 50lb up from lowest. I got to this stage by drinking and eating around my sleeve. Sharing a bottle of wine with my husband results in us sharing a large pack of crisps (chips) and a large bar of chocolate. This has been going of for 2 years and the weight gain is the result. I have also been eating bread again and Cookies. During the holidays I have been investigating Keto and I think it will suit me. Anyway the next part of the journey begins - I just wandered off the path and got lost. I need to renavigate.

It might be a fine line...

Mine only get people food on very rare occasions. I was thinking today how it is funny that I am so very careful about what they eat so they don't gain weight, but I have had no problem shoveling bad food choices in to my mouth regardless of the weight gain! And after the bypass?

The people you've heard about and have met regained weight because they chose to eat poorly. They chose to eat the foods and the amounts of food that cause weight-gain. It is possible to gain weight after any of the surgery options. Maintaining weight loss requires changed eating habits forever. There is no magic about it. Reading here I understood that I was wrong about the bypass, I was making a confusion with the balloon Since the balloon must be removed people after start eating because they keep their nutrition issues hidden and after the removal everything was back Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

gained 3lbs in 1 week HOW?

After RNY gastric bypass surgery, there are two phases which are the "Weight Loss Phase" and the "Maintenance Phase". At around 7 months post-op, my weight loss came to an end and I naturally slid into the maintenance phase. @@Melanie89 said "Hi I am 16 weeks out lost 67lbs but weighed this morning and im up 3lbs like HOWWW?" There are probably 3 things at play here. 1. Holiday's are rough on weight loss. One tends to eat or drink too much and this can result in some weight gain. 2. You weight will fluctuate on a daily basis. I generally weigh myself first thing in the morning butt naked to obtain my lowest daily weight. My clothes and shoes can add 5 pounds to my weight. If I weigh myself after meals, that might add another couple pounds. Some women have issues with Water retention. Stress can also affect weight loss. 3. At 16 weeks post op, your meal volume has started to increase which gives you have an option. One thing to do now at this stage is to assess your Protein intake. Your protein requirement is met by a combination of the protein from your meals combined with the protein from your supplements (protein shakes, protein bars). Since your meal volume is beginning to increase, that also means that the amount of protein from meals is increasing, especially if you concentrate on consuming high protein meals. Therefore you could be able to reduce your reliance on supplements and the calories they contain. I went from 3 protein shakes a day, down to 2, then 1 and finally zero when my meal volume increased to 1 cup per meal at a year and a half. That is the method I used to break my stalls. Thank you so mucj Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

    A tale of woe

Many thanks everyone for your replies and encouragement. The only meds they gave we were for pain control and antibiotics The weight gain has reversed now and is going in the opposite direction It seems that surgery has the unwanted effect of weight gain for a while Again, many thanks

    Bread

You won't have room for bread for a long while. Not when you literally can only consume ounces at a time, and need to get as much Protein in as possible. Bread doesn't fit into that equation. Once you get closer to your goal weight and are preparing for maintenance, like @@jenn1 said, incorporate whole grains into your diet. I still only do whole grain bread sparingly at 2.5 years out. For me personally breads and wheat stuff causes cravings and weight gain, so it's really a rare treat for me.
  12. Wow that's is still fast thank yo sooo so very much for taking the time to post this. It helps me a lot knowing the different timelines .. my concern is that they didn't weigh me at orientation the last time they weighed me was when I made the request for the referral from my primary.. at that time I was at 40.1 BMI it's been a month and I gained 10lbs and cause I worried about not qualifying.. I stopped dieting !! Now I'm at 41 BMI. I don't have any other medical issues .. the kicker for me I'm on a heavy duty antidepressant which one of the side effects is weight gain.. I would love to go back to dieting making health decisions cause I feel awful my clothes are tight which in turn makes my social anxiety worse.. I just feel better when I get right. I seriously wish I could call the dietician or email her and ask her if I can start losing weight now without it affecting their decision .. Side note I am going to lose what I have gained before I go back cause I can't sit here and make my situation worse. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Newbie with PCOS looking for a Mentor/Buddy

Hi. I have PCOS as well. I don't have a child yet, I had a sleeve done 12/22/16 as part of my journey to have a child. This has been life changing. My PCOS has caused sporadic periods, weight gain and a host of metabolism issues. My doctor suggested this surgery as he thought it was detrimental to my health to have a child with my health conditions. I'm happy I had this surgery. My surgery weight was 304 I'm now 294. I'm still very nervous about the weight loss. I see so many success stories just wondering when I will see the weight shift. I'm on soft foods, much of it I prepare myself. I haven't been able to drink 64 ounces of Water, but able to get Protein in through my shake. Still learning a lot, but looking forward to the journey. Feel free to drop me a line at any time here buddie! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    It's done...although with last-minute changes

Happy New Year! I was hoping to hit the century mark in weight loss by the time the 1st hit, and I very nearly did it. I weighed in this morning at 288.8. I just needed another week in 2016 and I'd have done it! Still, I've erased about twenty years of weight gain in four months' time, thanks to this surgery. I have just over 100lbs left to lose, but it feels darn good to know it's GOING to come off. I feel good and I'm tremendously glad I made the decision to do it. I had my blood pressure checked and it's still elevated, even with the weight loss. It does run in the family, so it looks like I may just need to take medicine at this point...but we'll see, as I continue to lose weight and then start getting into shape. I'm hoping I can eventually ditch the CPAP machine AND the HBP medication. Can't put the cart before the horse, though.

    Birth control and weight gain

This is bad for those of us on this journey. Yes I heard Mirena doesn't do major weight gain, but at this point scared to use any BC until I at least finish my weightloss. What I'm thinking is, I think these BCs mess with our metabolisms, because the changes I noticed were like the way I was before I had the surgery. But I'm hoping someone has be able to kick start their weight loss again, and if so, how? Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App

    Weight Gain

My advice would be to only weigh yourself once a week. I drive myself crazy weighing myself too much and it's something I still struggle with. I know that I gain weight as the day goes on so I can understand the weight gain. It's definitely hard but try for once a week . You are still early out from surgery and I did experience some weight gain in the couple weeks after my surgery. Continue to eat right and eventually exercise and you should be fine . 17. I had my RNY on December 13, 2016. I have followed every instruction from my dietician and surgeon without any cheating. I have weighed all my food, meeting my Protein goals, meeting my Water goals, and keeping a food diary. My weight has been steadily decreasing about 1 to 2 pounds a day. Today I wake up and weigh myself and there was no change in my weight. I weighed the same as yesterday. I'm ok with that. However later in the morning I weighed again and I had gained 3 pounds! How is it possible to gain 3 pounds in a matter of hours? I understand there may be plateaus, but gaining in a matter of hours is really upsetting. Has anyone else had this experience? Birth control and weight gain

The claims of significant weight gain when using chemical birth control have never been substantiated by research.
  19. Hi, has anyone had a problem with weight gain and staying on when getting on birth control? I took the birth control out in july. I had a baby, and after the baby continued my weightloss down to 216, then got on BC that has caused me to gain weight at 248, after I took it out up until now I have fluctuated between 245-250, but cannot get back on my weight loss journey. I wanted to get down to 180 and then go for my tummy tuck. Anyone have any suggestions? It has been 6 months and I just cannot get it off ???? Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App
  20. This cannot be sugar coated so here it goes. First forum post in my life but seriously need to talk about this. My short story first. Had the band, lost 110 pounds. Got down to 117 and felt amazing. Then it sucked. Irritated my stomach and the let out and fills and throwing up and weight gain got old. So transitioned to sleeve on 12/12/16. Started at 162, 155 day of surgery and down 143 and stalled. Ok no problem. Stomach feels great. BUT tonight had the most horrible experience going to the bathroom. I have no kids but I'm pretty sure this was similar to giving birth. Hard. Stuck. Extremely large. After an enema , and drinking a laxative and three long camp outs in the bathroom and very loud grunts and screams, I was relieved. My friend had the bypass and the same thing happened to her and I took her to the ER. I was never told it would be this bad by my staff???!!! This should be in bold letters on all paperwork! I've read some places on different things to do but would like advice on best intake regime to keep this from happening. I take a probiotic but should I take a daily Fiber or laxative and what is best? Anyone else go through this??? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  23. Hi everyone, I was originally banded back in Nov of 2012 only to wind up with an emergency removal & sleeve revision in Jan of 2013. I did great - lost about 105 - 110 pounds. But, as a result of a job loss, laid off 6 weeks ago, my bad habits came back. I "never" thought I would go back to munching on crappy food & over loading on carbs. The holidays are not the best time to be job hunting. The stress that comes with it is over whelming. It's hard being unemployed, spending HOURS & HOURS on my laptop applying for jobs that could be a match. I've gained about 10 pounds, and while it may not sound like a lot, that's how it starts. I "refuse" to go back to where I was (245 pds). I now weigh around 148 pds. I'm here to let everyone know that yes, you can gain weight after being sleeved. While you may not physically be able to eat as much, you can eat a little more than when you were first sleeved, and gain weight by eating all the wrong stuff. My point? It's time to refocus on why I lost the weight in the first place, and how being thinner made me feel. Time to go back to basics - 'do over.' Every day is a new opportunity to re-build my strength, and focus on what needs to be done to lose those horrible additional 10 pds that seem to be sitting on my stomach, and surely my butt :-). With this said, I'm trying to back track & remember what I did when I first started. I've become more lactose intolerant than what I originally was when I first started this journey, so I need to be careful what I eat. After giving so much support when I first started this journey, I am now looking for help & support. Trying to come up with healthy menus again. Goal is to eliminate those shitty carbs that made me do this in the first place. Appreciate any help you guys can offer! Depressed, but definitely trying to push through with positivity!! Thanks for listening!

    Buyers Remorse?

I found this on bariatric source. I found this helpful as well. "The average excess weight lost following laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery is about 65% (in other words, at 100 pounds overweight the average patient loses almost 70 pounds). And many patients have seen results of well over 80%. “Most patients keep at least 50% of their excess weight off after 10 years.”Dec 10, 2016 Weight Gain After Gastric Bypass Surgery & 9 Ways to Avoid or ... www.bariatric-surgery-source.com › wei...

I haven't had my surgery yet so my answer may not apply, but I have been on steroids previously due to pain associated with my Lupus.
