I could not do the puree stage, too grossed out. I made soups with lentils, bacon, carrots and sweet potatoes with mild chilli/curry flavours. I could regulate the thickness with stock or milk, add yogurt or cream cheese. I had lots of milk with banana and peanut butter blitzed in -
Help! I'm not losing weight... Stall
thiasmom replied to JustMe40's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I too was at a stall in weight lost. I had lost 91.6 pounds total. I had my sleeve done 11/15/16 and since then I lost 43 before surgery and 48.6 after sleeve. I then noticed I was getting up at night wanting to snack so I would eat Greek yogurt or drink water! I was exercising like crazy. What I did was do two days of liquid diet to try and jump start my weight list and eliminate my cravings and its helped. I lost 3 pounds this week. I'm going to watch my carb intake from day forward. I'm going to try and keep it 35-30 & under a day!!!! I hope this works. Thank you folks for the advice. -
:thumbup:SO i had my first post-op doctor's appointment and it went well. No infection in the incisions, I'm feeling great, and I've lost 11.6 pounds since surgery. I've lost about 25 lbs since right before the pre-op diet. My blood pressure is pretty high--160/100 and has been for the past three visits. I've always had kind of low blood pressure, even when I was more overweight and I thought losing weight drops your BP? I thought it might be the Wellbutrin, so the doc said to stop taking it. He said I shouldn't have to wean off it because I've only been taking it for about 3 months. Also he prescribed a low dosage of some beta blocker , toporal? or something to get my BP down. I'm on to a PUREED DIET!!!! I'm really excited about this because it means I get to chew something. I'm allowed soft cooked eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, mashed potatoes and anything pureed in a blender, as well as all the stuff on the liquid diet. I do this for 3-4 days and then I'm on to soft foods, which include soft veggies, toast and crackers, tuna, shrimp, fish, and finely ground meat. I do that for four days, and then I'm on a regular healthy diet as tolerated. That means normal food in about a week! I'm almost scared to eat normal food. I'm doing so well on the liquid diet, I don't want to mess it up. I refuse to gain these 11 pounds back or for that much, the 25 lbs since before pre-op. I weighed 305 today. That means just over 5 pounds before I'm under 300! I also realized that my home scale is broken. I weighed yesterdy I went from 309 to 297 later in the day. I need to buy a new scale. I'm trying not to obsess over the scale, but it makes me feel good when it goes down, and also keeps me in check. So far I'm really happy with this band thing. I'll see what happens when I start eating instead of drinking my meals...

jlweb23: Wow! Sounds like you had quite a rough time! So sorry! Hopefully you can take it easy for a few weeks and just let yourself heal. It sounds like your stomach really needs that time to heal so I would follow just what the doctor orders (liquids) and let it heal. Also I know how tempting it is to want to take the kids to the zoo when you wake up feeling great, but don't over do it - - I literally had to force myself some days to chill and not get over excited when I was feeling good or I would definitely overdo it. For a change in liquids from your EAS protein drinks (I like these too! fast & good protein), you can blend some other protein drinks (strawberry fatfree yogurt with some vanilla protein powder and water/ice, etc) so you're still doing liquid but also getting your protein. Watch that belly button too if it is still oozing any yuck - c/b infected so I'd keep an eye on that. Lots of water and REST REST REST! You're losing so keep the faith!!

Hi very.rara I was banded in Perth by Dr Stephen Watson in December 2007. I have to say that it was, hands-down, the best thing that I have ever done for myself and I have not regretted it for an instant. I think I can safely count myself as one of the "success stories" , as I am now just 5 weeks post-op from having plastic surgery to repair all the damage that I did to my body by carrying so much excess weight for so long, and I feel FANTASTIC! With regard to your questions: What can I really expect from the surgery? If you've ever had surgery before, you can expect that this will be an easy one in comparison. If you've not had surgery, it is hard to know what you are up for and some people have been surprised by the fact that cutting through skin and muscle will actually hurt somewhat and take some time to heal. I've had a lot of surgeries over the years and the band was one of the easiest but it IS still surgery and you don't get over it completely overnight. how long were you in for? Hospitals are not my fav place in the world. I was the first patient in the theatre in the morning and consequently was allowed to go home that evening - if I had been scheduled for later in the day, I would have had to stay overnight. As like many I hate vomiting, so at all lengths I want to avoid it, what foods would you advice I stay away from? You should get an eating plan from your surgeon but here are some pointers in general: Immediately after surgery and for the next 4-6 weeks, you will be on a special "recovery" plan. The time periods differ from surgeon to surgeon but they all have the same basic pattern. Mine was: Days 1 to 4, Clear liquids (clear Soups, jelly, juice, teas such as peppermint or ginger ), Days 5-14 thick liquids (creamed soups, yogurts, milk/fruit smoothies, etc), Days 15-21 very soft foods, called "mushies" in this forum (scrambled eggs, chunky soups, really soft casseroles, tuna with mayo - fat free of course!, etc), Days 22+ gradually work back to normal solid foods, focussing on lean meats, vegetables and fruits and avoiding processed white carbohydrates such as white bread and Pasta. You'll find a lot of advice about food here but there does seem to be a real split between what our Australian doctors advise and what most of our US counterparts are told. The US seems to have an obsession with Protein and Protein drinks and with avoiding carbs at all costs. I don't subscribe to that opinion at all and truly believe that protein drinks are one of the worst choices you can make after you've finished with the healing process and not much of a choice during it - there are so many better tasting options out there!! You'll find that as you heal (probably about 2 weeks post-op), you'll start to feel hungry again and feel that you can eat anything, especially if you chew it enough. DON'T DO IT! You won't have "restriction" at this stage, so it might be easy but it can be damaging long term. The soft diet isn't because eating will be hard at this point, it is mostly to stop your stomach from having to churn to digest the food, which can prevent the stitches holding the band in place from healing properly and can lead to slippage much later down the track. The best advice I can give to avoid vomiting (after the healing phase) is to chew every single bite slowly and thoroughly and to stop and listen to your body in between each bite. It takes time to change the eating habits of a lifetime but it can be done. If your band isn't too tight, you should be able to eat just about anything you want if chewed slowly and thoroughly but you should find that you can only eat between a half and a whole cup of food at a time. Try to eat solids rather than "slider foods" like chocolates and icecreams, so that your band has something to work on. The whole point of the band is that it holds solid food up at the top of your stomach, triggering the Vegus nerve and fooling your body into thinking that you are full. If you drink your calories or eat foods with no fibre/substance to them, they will slide straight past the band and you won't get the "full" feeling. I think I've been pretty successful with the band - over 2 years now, down over 50 kg and feeling fabulous. If you want to ask any other questions, feel free to send me a private message or post the questions in this thread. Good luck!

i used it in lemonade and it was fine usually you would put the unflavored in a thick mixture like smoothies or yogurt, soups gives things a different texture but its the best protein out there and mine going to use it the rest of my life

Starting my 3 week Skim Milk diet today.
Amie replied to Amie's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
My surgeon says it's to shrink the liver to make it easier to get to the stomach. My personal opinion is that I think they have us do it so we are more prepaired for the post op diet. After this 3 weeks I'll be looking forward to the liquid yogurt and broth I will be allowed to have lol. Annebelle- How much milk have you been drinking everyday? I'm allowed to drink as much as I can in 5-10 mins 3 times a day. The last 2 days I drank 48oz. -
I’m not sure what you mean by this question but I will offer my experience. If I eat a meal with dense protein, chicken, salmon, pork, etc, I stay full for hours and have a hard time drinking water even after waiting the 60 minutes. Other foods like yogurt and vegetables seem to leave a bit quicker and I’m not hungry but don’t have that full feeling quite the same either.

It's time to quit breaking my promises!
tonya66 posted a blog entry in Sunshine2's (Tonya's) Journal
I Keep telling myself, okay, today I'm going to be back on track! Then, I do good, then fall off the wagon. I weighed this morning and I am up to 185 lbs! I weighed at one time 167! I am so disgusted with myself. I feel like the biggest PIG! I keep waiting on that "restriction" and it isn't happening. I get some, then lose it, or I get too tight. I'm so mad at myself that I screwed up, I used to have pretty good restriction at 3.8, but then tried to get tighter, and well, now I'm still trying to get that restriciton back! Sucks. I am using it as an excuse to eat what I want, when I want etc. Well, it was a major wake up call. I feel bad to keep typing in my journal how - I'm going to start and how good I'm going to do, then I don't. I keep breaking promises to myself. I have to be true to myself so I've got to take control - for good. It seems I do good for a week, then blow it for 2 weeks. Its a vicious cycle. The weight is creaping back on and I must stop it now! I must! I must! I was in tears this morning, but I am not going to "feel sorry" for myself, or beat myself up anymore. I can't change the past, but I can change the future. No more sweets, no more sugar! No more! Its time to pull my head out of the sand and quit doing the self destruction like I've done with every diet in the past. I am hoping to get my restriction back at my next fill - 4/7/08, but until then, I need to focus, really focus. I need to THINK before I eat, I need to plan my meals! I must exercise! I don't want to be a Band Failure, I want to be a success! Okay - my life will change. I will report my weight everyday on here. Good or bad, I'm also going to report my menu - good or bad! Wt 184.7 Exercise - Menu Protein shake - chocolate Whey protein, with added coffee Coffee with cream - no sugar Lunch - Roasted chicken, few bites of green beans and some corn Snack - 1/2 container of strawberry no sugar yogurt with a little grape nuts added in it. Dinner - Roast, few carrots -
It sounds as though you may need more calories with that workout. Try skipping the protein bars (many are high in fats and carbs) and have protein rich food (tuna, cheese stick, chicken, greek yogurt, hummus, cottage cheese). You may need to have 5-6 small meals to get enough protein and calories. Stay strong!

Looking For A May 10 Band Buddy
nursemarti replied to nursemarti's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry Amy posted that before I checked the threads. Meds - yes. I had to stop taking my Tylenol extended release for my fibromyalgia because it can't be crushed. But my Blood pressure meds I just crush and Pepcid same way. The multivitamin and calcium are chewables. I am now mixing my BP meds in yogurt just started that today. Moved up to runny grits and puréed soup today but boy was it ever good and satisfying. Who knew I could eat 4 tbls of something and feel full lol. I initially weighed in last Monday morning fully clothed w/o shoes at my gyn's office at 270 now in nightgown down to 251 of course with nothing but liquids what would I expect! My goal weight is 140 annd I am 5'2.5" so now I have to get active. I am walking just a little need to get a good pair of walking shoes so I can be comfortable and get serious about it! -
If you switch out the grapes with berries and switch the yogurt to a sugar-free yogurt (or maybe greek yogurt that you mix up yourself with stevia or Splenda), it could make a pretty big difference Edited to add: You could probably find a lower-carb protein bar and protein shake too ...

Hi. I love sweets, too. My new substitute for candy and sugar is dried fruit. It's got fiber and vitamins and is very sweet. Nonfat, sugar-free yogurt is another sweet treat that is healthy. Sorry about the job situation. You really should find something new. We spend so much of our life at work that it's really important to find something you like. Nancy

Mine lasts for as long as 2 hours at a time! One of the reasons that I'm still mostly living on yogurt. And that's with walking and trying to breathe. But I agree - DO NOT ADD LIQUID! -

Those who have been banded, what are you eating?
T8ergirl replied to zeama's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am 17 days post op and here's what I pretty much eat every day: Wake Up: Cold coffee drink with lite soy milk and 1/2 scoop of unflavored Protein powder Breakfast: Low fat greek yogurt (Fage) with honey (130 cal / 10g protein) Snack at Work: Myoplex Lite Protein Drink Lunch: 1 tablespoon each / 4 tablespoons total of stuff off the salad bar. Usually, tuna, peas, cottage cheese, garbanzos. Snack: Another protein drink Dinner: Whatever I cook for the boys but just 4 tablespoons of it. Monday night I had one strand of whole wheat fettuccine with tomato vodka sauce, roasted veggies, and a tiny piece of blackened trout. Last night I had a work event and I had two shrimp, steamed cauliflower and carrots, and one tiny potato wedge. Dessert: sugar free ice pops--usually two of them because they are so frosty delicious!! -
I was also informed that I have to do the diet all over again. The only problem I have is now I am lactose intolerant so it's going to be a little harder for me because I can't do the regular protein shakes and yogurt and things like that. Is there a place on this website that has the diet so I can plan before I go to the dr?

Month Two- Share What You Are Eating!
Yukon Kara posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am just starting into my second month with my sleeve. I am working on getting more calories in through the run of the day. My nutritionist wants to see 800 calories and 60 grams of Protein. It is hard getting those calories in! Most days I am between 500 and 600 calories, but I am getting there. I can tolerate only half a cup of food at a time. I am having three meals a day and three Snacks. My body does not do well on Protein drinks, so I am getting all of my protein from my meals. Here is my day so far: breakfast: 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt with 1tbsp sugar free strawberry jam snack: 1 small turkey pepperoni stick lunch: 2 oz. rainbow trout with 2tbsp rice and 1tbsp peas snack: 1oz marble cheese supper: not there yet, but thawing out ground moose meat to do a chili evening snack: usually milk mixed with a little Peanut Butter and a quarter of a banana I would love to hear from others as to what you are eating during the day! Share your favorite meals and ideas. Kara in the Yukon
