  1. I take a laundry list of medicine each day so it was hard for me to accept that I would have to now crush all of my pills and take them every day. I tried this for a week or so after surgery but I had so many pills to take and some of them were capsules that just contained too much powder. I tried mixing them with pudding/applesauce/yogurt etc but I could still taste the extremely bad taste of the pills. Luckily a few of my meds are available in liquid form and I would suggest anyone to ask their pharmacy any of their meds are available in liquid form, I was surprised with which ones were available. So the question is now I have been taking mostly the liquid meds but the few smaller pills I have simply been taking. They are pretty small and I think they are probably fine but anyone else do this? Are they not going to get fully absorbed or something?

    Well here goes nothin!

I am 2 days post op. Going home today. I was really nervous before, but it's over before you know it. So far everything is going great. I'm already switched to oxycodone in pill form for pain. It's not unbearable pain. My worst would be a 4, but most of the time 2-3. Really just a little stiff, but getting up and walking around makes me feel a lot better. Today I am being moved to stage 3 diet, so I can have full liquids and really soft food like yogurt.

    Struggling with weight loss

Honestly when I started adding foods like grilled chicken and other veggies I started noticing that my weight increased. I’ve lost a few of those pounds but not all. I’m not back eating just yogurt and drinking protein shakes. Occasionally I’ll eat grilled chicken and veggies but I limit it now. My vitamin levels are good. All blood work is good. yes I’ve talked to my wl team. They haven’t been much help ( in my opinion) they just seem to not believe me 🤷🏼‍♀️ Yes I do have artificial sweeteners. One coffee a day with Splenda and sugar free creamer. Sugar free jello and sugar free redi whip Very little processed food is in my diet. I will eat cheese with my veggies or chichen when I do eat that. Unless what I said above is considered processed. I eat no lunch meat or protein bars. My team has me on low calorie low carb and I stick to it. But occasionally I might go over but it’s not daily or even every other day. I weigh my food and don’t go over the 6 oz of food per meal I get 80 oz of water a day.

    Thick liquids?

Maybe try KEFIR thick liquid yogurt drink. You need your shakes to give you your protein, almond milk will give you some but its alot of calories for not alot of protein I just checked my hubbies carton and his was 80 calories 1gram of protein, maybe his isnt the best . Im sure theres better out there. Also try Premier Protein shakes thet taste great over ice. 30 grams of protein 1 gram of sugar 5 carbs hope this helps. Good luck.

What is with this lactose intolerance?

Doesn't the frozen yogurt have a ton of sugar in it? You probably were reacting to the sugar.

    Lap Band Buddy

One week in and feeling pretty good. The only downside to having family so involved is the fact that they are around all the time and I've never noticed how much people talk about food. And my sister is in town and we are having people over...so there is a lot of amazing food being cooked. Haha. Here I am on this 3 week liquid diet sipping broth while they eat lasagna..salad...and french bread. Haha. I'm getting used to smelling things and pretending I'm tasting them. How is your post-op diet going? My doctor has all his patients on 3 weeks of Liquids(no jello/pudding/yogurt/creamy things at all) and then the 4th week is when I can start the soft foods. So we skip the mushies entirely. I'm feeling great though moving around. No trouble at all with that. The one thing I'm not liking is the gaaaas. Ugh. So annoying. And I have pretty much been doing less on the Protein and more water/broth. Well for the first week I did. But I am knuckling up on the protein. I just don't like any of the flavors very much. It's going to be a bit tough for the next two weeks. Just have to choke 'em down. Haha. Wow. I really just rambled off didn't I? Sorry about that. How are you doing? You must be in your 3rd week?

    Being Vegetarian

Hi!!! I've been a vegetarian (ovo-lacto) for 17 years! The band has been pretty good to me. I no longer eat Pasta or rice but I eat everything else I ate pre-banding. I start each day with a Protein drink (unjury mixed with almond coconut milk and sometimes a little PB2). I have plain Greek yogurt with fresh blueberries and a couple of chocolate chips for a snack. lunch is usually vegetarian chicken salad or a boca spicy chicken patty with some salsa. Afternoon snack is some fresh fruit and a cheese stick. dinner varies but tonight I will have black Beans with 1 ounce cheddar cheese, salsa, and a couple tablespoons of Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. During the summer I have made my famous ratatouille and a few varieties of cabbage Soup. (I actually have to make another one tomorrow!). I have a farm share so I always use fresh fruits and veggies. Oh and when I need extra calories I will juice some fresh veggies with a couple of apples.
  10. I'm only 18 months post-op, but a woman in my real time support group was banded 6 years ago (FDA trials) and lost 210 pounds. She recently had a slip repair and got a new (VG) band. Now she is working her way up to the "sweet spot" again. She only gained 15 pounds during the time (6 months, I think) that she was unfilled. She still maintains that she will go to the grave with her band intact, as long as it's humanly possible. I have lost 97 pounds and am within 10 pounds of my goal weight. I weigh less than 130 and wear a size 4, certainly way better than 50% of excess weight lost. I understand your feelings about the band. There is a lot of drama involved - a lot of stuff that, in many ways, makes food even more of an issue than it was pre-band. I can't have a tiny kid's cup of yogurt at 4:30 or I won't be able to eat dinner. No steak for me at cook out time - no hot dogs, either. Everything is a trade-off...it all has its price. I'm good with my choice to keep the band, and keep it filled pretty tight. And I'm good with everyone else's choice, too. It's your body....only you can decide what do do with it.
  11. Sleeved on the 25th. Bad nausea the first day but otherwise manageable. Don't know how anyone gets all the protein in. I've been getting the fluid in fine but seriously struggling with the protein. Ate something other than isopure and protein broth today. Tried Greek yogurt For breakfast - yum but can't eat much. Had high protein very liquid oatmeal for dinner with flax milk - tasty but incredibly filling. No real gas till now - guess real food equals real gas.
  12. I followed a very basic, low carb/high Protein meal plan. I ate 4 meals per day, each meal had a minimum of 15gr of protein. This accomplished 2 things; 1) kept me within my calorie/carb/protein guideline 2) kept me from snacking which is heavily discouraged. My plan stated 600-800 calories, NO more than 30-40gr of carbs (and this is ALL carbs, good/bad, white/complete/whole grain etc, a carb is a carb), and at least 60gr of protein. I ate lots of meat, cheese, greek yogurt, and eggs once I got to regular food. Carbs are my enemy when it comes to weight loss/gain, and like I said, I don't care what source of carb they are classified in. I had a totally boring meal plan, but a little creativity and recipe tweaking made things much easier.

    I'm Banded!

congrats!! go sloooo !!! your body is still healing!!! my surgeon recommends full liquids for the first 2 weeks.....but that includes cottage cheese, yogurt, puddings/jello in addition to the Protein shakes.. to be honest though, I have only done the shakes...I am afraid to eat I think....I keep hearing slime stories!! but really, I have had a lot of days where I can only get down 1 or 2 shakes and Water...I get full fast!! I also made a shake too thick, and it was really uncomfortable....that turned me off a bit as well but then I was reading of folks just a week out eating tacos!! maybe I'm the wacko, LOL!!! take care, and keep us posted!!

    need advise...

Its all relative. If you're losing weight whilst eating that, then you dont need a fill! It really is a misuse of what the band is meant to do, aiming to fill and fill and fill until you cant eat more than half a cup or cant eat a certain food. The band is actually meant to decrease your appetite and increase satiety - YOU have to do all the rest of it yourself. Which means avoiding bread if you dont want to eat it, not making yourself so tight that you cant eat it. However, it is common not to be able to eat bread. Look at it this way - I currently have no fill and can easily eat an entire two bread sandwhich full of salad fillings. I could also eat several Cookies after that - but I most of the time I choose not to. I have not gained any weight in 2 months unfilled and am currenly at a BMI of only 19. Do I need a fill? If you're losing weight on ten pieces of bread a day then dont sweat it. Weight loss is what matters, not choking yourself off until you cant eat. However if your loss is very slow, or has stopped and you're doing everything else right but not feeling that satiety where a meal lasts you a good couple of hours, then its fill time. But dont judge it on what foods you can or cant eat. I could eat bread with my band 3/4 fill, with no problem at all - but yogurt, ugh. Impossible. Its different for everyone.

    Soft Food Phase Ideas?

I eat beans, refried beans, Tuna light in water, canned chicken, eggs, cottage cheese. I dont blend anything because I think you are supposed to start chewing but that just my opinion. Greek yogurt is good and has protein, sf pudding. I mix my protein mix with jello instant pudding cups.

    Holiday Party Dessert?

My mom used to make yogurt pie--graham cracker crust filled with a mixture of 2/3 yogurt and 1/3 cool whip. You could do that with Greek yogurt for the Protein and sugar free cool whip, or even real homemade whip cream with no sugar or fake sugar. Then just eat out the filling and leave the crust while others eat the crust. I like to make it with Key lime yogurt and it's a mock key lime pie!

    What's been your lightbulb moment?

My light bulb moment happened this week. I had my surgery on November 22 and have done pretty well. I have stayed the course and have not swayed from my list of acceptable Protein options prior to this mini vacation. This week I went to San Francisco to care for my aged father. When I arrived in SF I went to the market immediately and bought my Dannon light and fit yogurt, cottage cheese, Light Baby Bel cheese and turkey slices before I even went to my Dad's. I wanted to make sure I continue to make good choices when it came to food. Seven days later....... I am home and food wasn't an issue. For the first time in decades I took control of my eating habits when visiting the family in San Francisco. I said NO to a cannoli, NO to a Joe's hamburger, NO to a Tostada, NO to a crepe, etc.......my response was, "Can I meet you afterwards?" I always carried a Baby Bel Cheese in my purse and always felt satisfied. I came home 4 pounds lighter and the feeling........I GOT THIS!

    Ouch!

I am in the mush stage also, I use my food processor a lot and find the Starkist Tuna Salad packets to be a pre-made mush for times when you are out and about. I also do a lot of yogurt, chicken pureed with tomato sauce and things like that. I don't love the look of most of it, but it's just 2 weeks then I am on to soft foods!

    early january banders

I was banded on the 14th and my doctor is making me take 4 weeks off if work. Which is fine by me, because even though it's a desk job, I still find it uncomfortable to sit in a chair for very long. My port side is still a bit sore. I feel great, otherwise. Today I started to add yogurt, sugar free pudding and strained low fat cream Soup to my diet. It was the best lunch I've had in at least a month! Anything but more broth works for me! I'm only hoping I don't gorge too much today, since I can't seem to lose any weight right now. I expect my first fill to be the 3rd week of february, but I think I'll find out at my post-op appt on Friday. I feel like I could eat and eat right now and not ever feel full. I hate to say it, but I can't wait for the feeling of restriction! My dad came over yesterday and brought my dog back (she's a puppy and likes to wake me up by jumping on me... not a great idea for the first couple of weeks, so he was dog-sitting). He said that he could tell I was thinner, which was nice. Having my dog home is totally going to help, since she loves walks and it motivates me to get outside in the -18C weather :cursing:

    early january banders

Hi everybody! I had surgery on the 6th and am in my 4th week of restricted diet. I usually have cottage cheese for Breakfast and yogurt for lunch and soup for dinner. I can eat almost 1 cup worth of food at a time, very slowly, and then I feel satisfied. I thought that I would only be eating about 1/2 cup at a given time. My first fill will be on the 16th. I am very excited about it. Maybe then I will eat less. I also have been not going over 1200 calories a day. And making sure I get between 50 and 60 grams of Protein. There is a great website called caloriecount.about.com that I use to keep track of everything. Then I can get a month worth of analysis. I looks like this: Date Calories Grams Fat Carbs Protein Grade 2009-01-22 1,178 1,550 24 182 56 B+ 2009-01-23 1,252 1,425 32 182 53 B- 2009-01-24 1,028 1,211 19 121 90 A- 2009-01-25 901 1,051 13 93 89 A- 2009-01-26 1,260 834 66 173 96 B- 2009-01-27 980 678 41 122 79 B 2009-01-28 939 383 25 94 71 C+ 2009-01-29 640 284 22 39 61 C+ The grade is for the choices of food during the day like too many carb or fat. Well, it's great to hear form you all. Take care.

    Confessions Of A Junkie

Thanks for sharing this. I'm newly sleeved, less than a month out. I took your story to heart. I feel like I have been "pushing" myself to be "normal." I need to learn my new normal and then accept it. Because I've had the thought, "it's just one regular pudding cup (husbands)..it's just like yogurt." I stopped myself. But that thought process has got to go. again, thank you guys for the wisdom and the proof that getting off track and then getting back ON track is possible. Keep us posted

    Is Something Wrong WIth me?

It definitely could be the fat content or eating too fast. During this time you're still healing so you have to remember to take it easy, eat slow. I would get sick as well. Eat jell-o, broths, clear stuff for now and then revisit the creamy stuff like yogurt and cream soups. Eat sugar free Popsicles those will help with dehydration. Some days it was all I could keep down. If it doesn't get better by next week, I would contact your doctor.
  23. Sounds like you are not getting enough Water. This will help a lot with the deflated look. Are you drinking caffenated drinks? They are dehydrating. Also...smoking dulls the skin. Sounds like you could use a mild peel to help bring that "glow" back to the face. If you aren't exfoliating then you will get dead skin build up...this will dull the skin quickly. pumpkin or lactic peels are good for this. You can do an at home peel and mask for cheap and it's fantastic for the skin. Ingredients 1/2 avocado 1/4 banana 2-3 TBs full fat plain yogurt 1-2 TBs Honey Avocado has so many awesome qualities for the skin. It nourishes it and moisturizes like crazy. Banana is healing and moisturizing. The lactic acid in yogurt will "eat" away the dead stuff. Expect it to tingle. Honey is humectant which means it draws moisture to itself from the air. Mix them thoroughly and slather on clean face (neck and chest if you have enough). It will feel funny and it kinda looks like someone puked on you...but its worth it. Leave on 15-20 minutes. Rinse off. (BTW...I'm an aesthetician.)

    I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!

Minkypop I feel you!!! I can't stand anything made with artificial sweeteners. I only drink water that's ice cold and if I need to I'll squeeze some lemon or lime juice in it. As for my protein I buy Greek yogurt plain and puréed some fruit (bananas, strawberries, peaches, etc ) for natural sweetness. I can't tolerate whey or any other protein for that matter, so now that I'm five weeks post op I get added protein from beans, poultry, salmon, and other foods that are high in protein. I also drink a glass of Lactaid far free milk every morning. I pray that things get easier for you too as you move from stage to stage in your eating plan.

    I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!

Maybe you can try yogurt with an unflavored protein powder. Unjury has the best in my opinion. You can also try Isopure which is a water based protein beverage. I don't think it uses aspartame. Good luck
