Ideas: Pea Protein Or Soy Protein
MegInNOLA replied to Aliceinwonder's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Hey Alice: Well, first off, I'm sorry you've hit these snags. It's a hassle, but it's workable. I couldn't tolerate any sort of Protein powder or Protein Drink, so I went with a "real food" approach. For you, with lactose and whey intolerance, that might be a good path, too--can you tolerate eggs? Egg white protein is readily available at our local Whole Foods. I ended up mixing smoothies that used yogurt (mine was Greek/dairy; you might could use soy with a soy-based Protein Powder or egg-white protein powder to up the protein factor), white Beans (low-sodium, rinsed thoroughly), almond milk, and some flavoring, usually chocolate in the beginning because I could tolerate that, zapped in the blender with a couple of ice cubes if I had forgotten to freeze the container of yogurt. :-) Let us know what works--I'd be interested, as I had such a rough time finding something that would work, and I try to provide ideas/suggestions/support to new sleevers who have the same issues. Glad you started the carafate--that should be really helpful. -
Sleeved 12/19 and I am on full liquids for one week, then can have soup, eggs, potatoes, cream of wheat, yogurt, etc.

Falling whisper!!! Thanks and yes!!! No cooking!!! Lol has no one licked the. Brownie batter before cooking it lol!!! My yogurt and pudding don't get cooked lol

I don't care for salty stuff, so Im not much help there. I like crunchy or sweet, so frozen sugar free pudding, apple slices with a sprinkle of cinnamon, almonds, frozen yogurt bars, choc dipped strawberries, dried fruit and nuts, etc.

Eggface Frozen Protein Drops
Gastricsleeve4me replied to Gastricsleeve4me's topic in Purée (stage 2)
I smashed them down with a spoon before freezing...Gave it a good mix too, so consistency was like drippy yogurt before freezing -
I am 8 months out. At this point I am capable of eating just about anything except bread... bread hits me like a rock with anything more than a tiny bite. But I don't mind since I really was never a huge bread eater (pasta was my kryptonite...) My daily foods include -chicken -pork -ground meat (hamburger or turkey or sausage) -eggs -plain greek yogurt (with flavored syrups or splenda to sweeten, normally add Protein as well) -cheese! -tuna -shrimp -lunch meat -protein shakes I cook these in a variety of ways, but grilling (on my counter top grill) is my favorite. It is quick and since I have lots of experience with it I have no trouble timing it so that the meat comes out tender every time. With the ground meat I either eat it out of a bowl with cheese on top or I make meatballs of some sort. As you can tell... I am definitely NOT a vegetarian! LOL I also am not all that creative with it. But I like simple food the best so I'm not missing anything!

My tummy loves to talk. When I have my first sip in the morning. You will have to be patient. Every tummy is different. At three I couldn't eat eggs or yogurt and such. At 7 weeks, I still can not eat an egg. Concentrate on you fluids and you will see it get better. Later loser!

For those of us who believe in a Higher Power, God, Jesus Budah whomever, try this. Print this prayer on business cards and stick them here there and everywhere. In the car, in your wallet, in the bathroom or on the fridg. My good friend who was banded on 11/1/2005 gave it to me. Dear God, I surrender my body and my weight loss to your divine care and love. I ask that you remove all excess unnecessary weight from my body. Return mybody to it’s most healthy and balanced state. Give me eating habits that support my health and life energy, and finally, teach me to love my body and to care for it from this day forth. Amen I know it when I read it I stop... I might eat, I might eat better or sometimes I say "Drink some more water" LOL That and another tip Lynn gave me... eat with a baby spoon it slows ya down... now it's like a love affair with my yogurt... oooooo LOL any hoo just something I would Share! Good Luck to you all! Just Keep Swimming!!!

Am I Being A Pig Already?
rhondarina replied to happy1957's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm the same. Liquids go down really easy. That includes pureed/liquified foods. I can eat 4oz probably 6oz if I tried of yogurt. I'm almost 3 weeks out. I really trying not to push myself though. Even though I know I can eat more of these mushee foods I try to limit myself at one sitting. Something I noticed I can't eat really is mushy potatoes. One or two bites and it makes me full. So I think once I go to dense proteins, I will feel restriction. As it is now, I usually feel very little restriction. -
So bored by food
susis replied to GotItDoneInHarlem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well......try this: I take canned chicken, and make it like tuna salad............except instead of mayo, I use plain greek yogurt. Double the punch for the protein! Then add onions, if you can tolerate them, garlic and tons of spices like basil, oregeno, whatever you like. That is very good, and easy to pack in a little tiny tupperware dish! Let me know how you make out! -
I was sleeved on Monday dec 5 , since then I have had no problems getting all my fluids and proteins in at all. I don't feel full and I don't have any trouble swallowing. I eat cream of wheat for breakfast , a protein shake for snack, a cream soup for lunch another protein shake for snack and usually some more soup for dinner with some unflavored protein powder in it. If I want I may have some yogurt or pudding later in the evening. Is this too much? I don't feel uncomfortably full at all, I don't really feel a restriction when eating although I am measuring my portions to stay on plan, I just see all these people having all the problems and only getting in like 400 calories where I am easily getting in 700-900 calories a day. Help am I doing something wrong?

I have a 10 day preop diet but starting to think I have a odd one. I can have cottage cheese, cream soups, oatmeal, coffee and tea milk V-8 juice, pudding and yogurt along with the regular sugar free stuff popsicles Jell-O. I don't read a lot about others with a 10 day diet like that :0. No word about protein in it no shakes no bars . For breakfast I can have one cup of oatmeal a cup of coffee. Midmorning snack yogurt . Lunch I can have one cup cream soup cottage cheese and a glass of milk. Afternoon snack pudding. Dinner I would do what I did for lunch. And an evening snack. This seems like a lot to me is this a normal perop diet?

sounds good peanut butter and yogurt
-
I use chobani yogurt as a snack. Generally if the yogurt is flavored I may add in 1/2 scoop of unflavored protein. Also, really good is plain yogurt with a tbsp of peanut butter for a snack, or PB cookie flavored protein powder.

Anthony, I like your post. I haven't had surgery yet (hopefully March) but it seems like too many people focus too much on Protein drinks. I am all for pureeing cottage cheese and greek yogurt with more skim milk to get the needed protein. My surgeon's office suggests dairy as our primary source of protein for the first 3 weeks. They also want us to eat/drink 100gr of carbs so that we are NOT in ketosis. Should be interesting how my progress compares to those who eat less carbs.

Mushy Food Ideas That Are Working For Me!
ChicagoRose replied to thunderbeast77's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This was fantastic. I am not banded yet so I thought the "mush stage" would be baby food, yogurt, etc....what you describe is REAL food LOL and sounds delish, either in the mush stage or after. Thanks for sharing! -
Greek Yogurt is a great substitute for sour cream. I like Fage 0. I ate so little at first, I didn't cook much so I'm not much help with recipes for the mushy phase. Lynda

well all the normal clear liquids plus milk, protein shakes, probably yogurt

What are some good mushy foods?
Jack replied to Aliciafl2014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
tuna whizzed up with a dollup of nearly anything, including FF yogurt/chopped peppers, a few black olives.....there's a 'whirrled' of pureed out there that fits the 'mushie' phase very well. I got into the 'million ways to do squash/yams/' path too. My all time favorite squash varieties were Hubbard (the Queen IMHO) and the little Delicata. Jillioiins of soups/putees/fried patties/infused with various onions/garlic in a wide range of prep styles. Your local library will have a jillion reference books for ideas on puree/mushies. -

Day 3 Post Op: does it suck this bad for everyone?
jaminator replied to Jenopolis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine done Wednesday and feel a lot better today. Been walking about two miles a day. I am taking the minimu m drugs. Carafate and acid reducer. They gave me hydrocodone but not taking that. Using Tylenol instead. Forcing myself to sip water all day. Today I went to smoothie king and got a high protein smoothie with yogurt and it made me feel a lot better. -
I'm supposed to be on the puree stage but I can't stand it. I can't even take normal food and puree it and eat it. I'm not sure if it's in my mind or a texture thing but it makes me gag. I've tried to eat no sugar added apple sauce and couldn't get past the taste. I have some apple sauce that I canned last spring but I'm afraid to try it. I put sugar and nutmeg in it and so far the sweet stuff has a funny taste to me. I have been able to get through a pudding cup a couple times. Tried greek yogurt blended but its too sweet. I did followed the advise of someone on this board and have been making my own protein drinks with unflavored protein powder so I am getting some of those down. I really can't wait to get past all these stages and be able to eat normal food. I think I'd be a lot happier.

Plain Fage contains pasteurized skim milk and live yogurt cultures. THAT IT. I use protein powder, Torani SF syrups or puréed berries or fruit for flavor. Much healthier and less crap than all the flavored yogurts out there, and I can control the sweetness.

I'm one week out from surgery now. In my book, it says to get smooth, no sugar added yogurt. My husband has been at the grocery store for over an hour now trying to find such a thing. Any brand name? He's ready to lose his mind! Thank you!
