  1. I just had my one month w/my surgeon, and dietician. I am cleared to go to the gym and eat solids but I feel I’m not there yet, food-wise, just by listening to my body. I’m stilll doing protein shakes, yogurts and some Bariatric broths to be sure I get all my protein. I can still only eat a small amount in a sitting!! Bit feeling good 💪🏼💪🏼

    January 2020 Surgery Date

Hello All. I am scheduled for sleeve on January 30 with Dr. Udelhofen at Journeylite in Cincinnati, Oh. I am currently on a 21 day "liver shrinking diet" of lots of liquid proteins, no vegetables or fruits. I have completed all the pre op testing and paperwork, the only thing I don't have is a surgery time. I will only be staying at the surgery center for about four hours after the surgery- they make you walk, drink, and pee, then they cut you loose to a hotel for the night (because I live more than 1 1/2 hours from the center). If I have no questions or issues the next morning I am free to return home. The first two days of the diet were the worst, I was not tolerating the quantities of protein powder in the packets, so on day four I called them and they now allow me to have a few other things such as lowfat yogurt, cottage cheese, or a small portion of grilled chicken in place of a couple packets a day. I am currently experiencing a few days of extreme irritability. I don't know if it's the diet, the nerves, the fact that I am not sleeping well, or what. My questions right now are about Lovenox injections I have to take for 14 days after the procedure. Has anyone else had to do that and how difficult was it to inject yourself? I am slightly freaked out over that. Also, how soon have people been getting back to work? I feel like pain and healing wise I will be good to go after a week but I'm worried about throwing up at work when I am starting back on puree food.

None. But I've only had half a jello and half a yogurt. Plus water of course.

My surgeon & dietician are fine with me not drinking protein shakes as the high protein yogurt drink I have as a snack has 22g per serve so similar to protein shakes as well as all the other sources I eat every day. My other afternoon snack option combinations give me 15-20g as well. I don’t track my intake everyday but do random checks especially when I change my diet. I seem to fluctuate between about 50 to 75grams of protein. Low on days when I’m not hungry & am forcing myself to eat to get in the nutrients.
  5. Hi everyone, I had my By Pass done on December 16th 2019 and for the first two weeks after the operation I lost 12 lbs in weight. Since then I have only lost 4 lbs in 3 weeks and I even make sure that I have (75g) 3 times a day 25g of protein shake that I make with half water and half milk in the glass totalling 200ml and I also drink plenty of water each day, and eat 1 or 2 low fat yogurts and a bowl of soup each day. I am in a wheelchair and I can’t exercise much due to a Stroke, but I try. So.... please if anyone might have an idea as to what it is I am doing wrong, I would be very grateful to hear from them as it is really starting to get me down now. I am now beginning to think it is maybe because I’m British 😜 as everyone else in the world seems to be having much better luck than me 😁. Thank you so much for your help and take care.

    V.A. Clinic Process

I feel pretty good. First thing after surgery in recovery room was a little rough, but nurses got my pain under control quickly. I think I got 3 or 4 doses of dilaudid via IV for pain the day of and day after surgery, but fter that I mainly used liquid tylenol to control pain. I did take a hit of liquid oxycodone at bedtime to help me sleep. But oral pain meds gave me nausea, but again nurses were quick with anti-nausea meds. Had surgery on Thursday morning and got discharged Saturday morning. I am on full iquid diet. Protein shakes, decaf coffee or tea, sugar free popsicles, smooth soups (no chunks, meat, nor pasta), skim milk, plain yogurt (can use artificial sweeteners in it), grits, runny oatmeal and sugar free pudding. I am on this for 2 weeks, then onto pureed foods where I can add low fat cottage & ricotta cheese, creamy soups, but no solids. Next 2 weeks is stage 3 soft foods progressing to regular foods. Then stage 4 to start integrating regular foods one at a time back into my diet. Right now I feel good. Sipping water to get my 64 oz in daily. I have zero hunger. Just a few little stomach cramps when I sip to fast, but again doctor prescribed levsin for cramps and it seems to be working. Haven't had to take anything for pain since I have been home. My incisions are pretty painless as well I only feel them if I really twist or bend to far. I guess am very lucky in that regard. My daily diet is one protein Shake first thing which takes me about 2 hours to sip down. Then I do sugar free pudding with protein powder added. Just add two scoops to the pudding mix and I mix with Fairlife fat free milk. That gives me about five 4 oz servings with about 15 grams of protein and 100 calories. I also do a protein water or fruit flavored protein mix in the afternoon to try and get 60 grams of protein each day.

  8. Good morning everyone, I had my sleeve December 2, 2019 (8 weeks) and have had tremendous success so far. Here is the thing...I really have trouble eating/wanting to eat. Has anyone experienced this? I have this aversion to chewing in general and am swinging between stage 2 and 3. I know everyone is different, but there are times when I am chewing and I have this feeling like 'okay swallow that and it is coming back up.' I have had intermittent problems with keeping foods down, but have found a happy medium with the softest foods possible. No matter how soft i make the chicken - and I am talking slow cooked dark meat - I cant eat it. The only thing I can eat is ground meat, like meatloaf. I am sick of the pureed soups and I am struggling to find agreeable foods. Any suggestions would be helpful. I have my second post-op appointment tomorrow and surprisingly, I have already lost over 60 lbs and gone down 3 pants sizes. That is great and all but the body needs fuel. I rely on protein shakes to meet my protein quota. Before surgery I could guzzle water and now I am struggling to meet my daily goals. I think I average about 32 oz. The irony is I want to eat EVERYTHING, you know the total see-food diet. I am not hungry but I am struggling with the loss of the ability to eat anything and everything. I feel a sense of grief and honestly, I know I want the magic pill that makes me skinny and able to eat whatever. I have a therapist and psychologist to deal with the underlying issues. Its just the day to day is the worse. My diet right now is protein shakes, yogurt, tuna (a little), low fat cheddar cheese, meat loaf, creamed soups, mashed potatoes (sometimes), and when desperation strikes spaghettios (and yes they are as gross as they sound). I eat those when days have passed and I cant meet my real food requirements. There is no chewing and 2-3 oz and I'm full, so gross, unhealthy, but sort of perfect. I used to love scrambled eggs and now I cannot stand the taste. I can manage boiled eggs and today I am going to try egg salad again. I do not eat any breads, pastas (besides the canned fake stuff), rice, or crackers. I want to plan my meals but I never know what to plan because I smell food and it makes me gag. I know my sleeve is small because I get that feeling like it never really left my esophagus. Any tips and ideas are welcome! E-
  9. Help me!!!!! Surgery date was 11/25/2019 and obviously I was hurting my first week or so but after that, I felt invincible. I had low sugar yogurt, I was happy, losing weight, eating mashed potato. I even made jokes if I had surgery at all because I was hungry most of the time. I am now almost 2 months out and I am so sensitive to food now, I am guessing it’s because I was safe in a bubble of soft foods and now I’m back to work. I had a piece of chicken with some queso (huge mistake, lots of fat in the queso) I was vomiting for 3 hours small amounts of queso (sorry for the nasty detail) next day I had to go to school and I don’t like eating in the morning but I had early class and we can’t eat during because it’s in a lab and I had small bite of a softer granola, no peanuts nothing and I had to leave class because I was vomiting the morning and that night, I took a Bariatric multivitamin which are swallowable because chews make me feel bad and I hadn’t eaten much because of the morning pain and I woke up throwing up at 4 am. I throw up a lot if something doesn’t feel right even if it’s small where I use to never throw up. I know I’m still finding my way and I tell everyone, no pre op diet will prepare you for this journey. I need help with foods and what I can enjoy because I’m starting to get a bit sad where I was once super motivated. I don’t like to be sick but everything kinda hurts. I had soup with an egg which felt great and protein water for now... Day of surgery: 256 lbs Today: 217 lbs
  10. Things are going fairly well for the most part. My RNY surgery was on 12/09/19 and I have lost 30 pounds since the surgery. I have lost a total of 115 pounds total since starting this journey to a healthier me on 05/07/19, when I started my six month doctor supervised weight loss for the insurance clearance process. I was on a complete liquid diet for the first 28 days. I am on soft foods now since 01/07/2020 and have been having issues with nausea. I have asked my team about this and they think that it may still be swelling or my body may just take a little longer transitioning to the next stage. Said that if I am still have this issue in 3 weeks that they will perform another endoscopy to check and make sure there isn’t something else causing the issue. I also am having issues with constipation. I’m currently two teaspoons of Benefiber every day and this week I started taking Colace. I have been taking Milk of Magnesia 1 – 2 times a week. I also try to make sure I eat at least one container of yogurt every day. I think that it may be from not getting enough water each day. Most days I usually get around 60 to 70 ounces of fluids but prior to the surgery I was drinking 90 ounces plus a day. I do not regret having the surgery. I feel so much better. My back, knee and ankle pain is almost nonexistent now. I have gone from taking nine medications a day to taking four medications.

    Cold 🥶 Feet 😬

🙂hi. No worries. I'm so happy to be speaking to people about this as I've never done it before and always kept it to myself. But its nice to share how I'm feeling and listening to how other people feel too. My surgery is booked for 6th April. Didnt you say yours is 7th? How does it work in the USA? Like, I'm able to get mine done on the NHS, which is free and luckily i dont have to pay, if I did, then it could cost me £10-£15k which is ridiculous, especially if someone wants to better their lives. We get it free in the uk as the cost of the op in beneficial and outweighs the costs when older and overweight etc... I wish I had the same meal plan as you, mine has put me on a liquid diet to shrink my liver for a whole 2 weeks before. He basically said I need to live off water milk and yogurt for the 2 weeks previously tho. Fingers crosses for you, I dont think your boyfriend recognises how hard it is trying to lose the weight and keep it off. For some people it's impossible x
  12. Take spoon or two of yogurt, and walk around. It can linger, but will subside after some time. When you do it with food - it will have to come back up, and sometimes you have to lie down for an hour. You learn not to do this.... take a couple times, but eating really slowly and really well chewed small bites is the key to figuring it out.
  13. Just found out I will be on a 2 week liver shrinking diet. I am happy that with my plan I get 2 snacks of either low fat yogurt/cottage cheese or 1/2 cup fruit, unlimited vegetables, & 4 oz lean chicken, fish, or turkey. 🙌
  14. I tried a bit of decaf coffee today and it was heaven. I also had a Greek yogurt this am and a teeny bit of unsweetened oatmeal less than 1/4 c dry. Everything went down fine. My one week post op is tomorrow. 🥳

2 weeks today since my RNY surgery. Doing and eating great.

I remember you had the surgery the same day. I'm glad you are doing good. I was in heaven with the lunch meat, that was the first thing I tried during my liquid stage. After that was the low fat great value brand mozzarella cheese sticks. They pull apart into thin sections so they were easier on my new stomach. Hope this helps you and keep up the good work! I actually had to increase my calories to 800 a day before I started loosing weight again. I eat 3 main proteins and 3 snacks like yogurt, salmon, cheese stick, or lunch meat a day. So really 6 proteins a day.
  16. I'm an Unjury fan. I've tried others, but have always stuck with Unjury. You can put the unflavored in just about anything. *Be careful with hot items. Anything over 140° will cause it to curdle a bit. These days, I put it in my yogurt for an extra-protein fortified yogurt.

    January 2020 Surgery Date

Hi all, I am now nearly 48 hours post op band to mini bypass. Band removal and bypass done at the same time. All has gone well. There was pain but it was well managed and tolerable. There was also a small bit of nausea. The first day I ate/drank nothing. The second day after bloods and X-ray, I was allowed water. Today, the drain was removed (along with most of the pain) and I was given a tray with tea, Dutch crispbake with butter/jam and a yogurt. No issues with any of it. My surgery was done by Dr. Chris DeBruyne in Belgium, I cannot recommend him and his team highly enough. Now, to learn to use my tool to the best advantage, I’m looking forward to it :)
  19. This is the one I use also. So far I've added it to my pureed soups, yogurt & sometimes I'll just add it to my water. It seems to taste better than my powdered choc and vanilla.

    Food Before and After Photos

Ok, this isn't really a food post. This is a PSA. Run. DO NOT WALK! Into your kitchen. Grab your carton egg whites, your favorite flavor of Premier and 2 ramekins. Mix up the two. Divide into 2 ramekins. Place in a water bath and cook at 350* for about 18 minutes. Center should still jiggle and wiggle a bit. It will continue to cook. Then you can add whatever the frick you want. I did bananas and cream cuz I was craving nana puddin yesterday. Since i didn't cave and today I'm not craving...I made em and ate one for MS. Ok, I ate both of them for morning snack...I did. I remain unrepentent. (Only one had the fruit garnish. The other was without toppings.) The yogurt and stevia get mixed together like a faux "whipped cream". So dang tasty tasty! Here it is. These are the numbers for BOTH! BOTH! YES! I AM YELLING!

    SLEEVE regret

No regrets yet- it has been a rough go, as I am only five days out. The clear liquids were killing me, and I had to try a Greek yogurt with protein. Went down just fine. I don’t get how or why I’m still feeling hungry when so much of the belly is gone! Ugh
  23. I am back to 16:8 If, just because I feel better on it. I eat two really good healthy meals and a bedtime snack of yogurt with homemade granola and some berries. I add some protein powder to the yogurt. On days when I know i am going to be working out a lot (tomorrow I have a 25 mile bike ride planned), I will eat a bowl of whole grain cooked cereal (steel cut oats, quinoa, teff, amaranth, millet, buckwheat) with 1/3 banana and milk. That gives me some really good calories to burn during the workout. I make sure to get my protein in and at LEAST a pound of raw veggies every day. I don't worry about the carbs or micro managing all the macros. Protein, veggies, and back fill with small amounts of nuts/seeds, and then some whole grains, and I'm golden!

Energy level starting coming up some today. I get out of the house to walk the dog around the neighborhood a few times each day - longest walk since the surgery was around 30 minutes. Most are 15 or so. I'm doing jello, yogurt, pudding, and broth mostly, with some protein shakes too. And lots of hot tea - I need something besides cold foods all day. . .
