  1. KCG--How many calories are on this diet your on? Astrasmom-- Yay for only 10 pounds! I think your Dr is right, about the exercise. I personally think that is why the band statistics are like they are, the band helps with about half and exercise does the rest. Txcloverangel-- My twin! 91 pounds is great! Major NSV yesterday. I technically have 5 pounds to go but when I had the surgery in my mind I thought: If I can get to and stay a size 10 I will be satisfied, if I can be a size 8 I would be happy, if I could get to a size 6 I would be thrilled. I thought a size 6 would be best case scenario. Yesterday I bought 2 pair of size 4 Levi's. I cant believe it. I have not worn a size 4 since I was 19 or maybe 20. (I will be 41 next month) I was scared to try on the size 6's because I knew I would be disappointed if they didn't fit, then they were too big! Unbelievable. I am going to get my husband to take a picture of me later today wearing them and post it. No matter what you do, do not underestimate the power of exercise. During the last 10 years I have lost down to this weight with diet pills and Adkins but I was never even close to this size.
  2. Good morning ladies. So I was lying in bed the other night and my port felt really weird - almost like it was sideways or something...the next morning, that area felt a bit sore, so I wasn't sure if I had done something - so I called the doc and they had me come in yesterday - it's all fine AND I got a very small fill (.5 cc - this was my 3rd fill since being banded). The doc was very happy with my progress and actually said my weight was fine and I didn't need to lose anymore (which was a nice NSV) - but I'm still aiming to be a normal BMI (which means losing another 14 pounds to put me at the high end of normal). Anyway - I'm hoping this fill will help me lose these last pounds. I will say I guess I haven't really known what restriction felt like because I've never quite had this experience. I can normally drink my water really fast and haven't had to think about the size of my sips or anything - now it seems to be very slow going down and I can't take big gulps - I'm hoping this is just a little swelling or something and that this part eases up because I'm used to drinking a lot and quickly (especially when working out)....I hope everyone has a great weekend.

NSV I went to Starbucks this morning because I wanted a skinny hot chocolate. So I paid with my debit card (which has my old picture on it) and the lady looked at me and said you have lost a lot of weight Congratulations! I smiled and told her thank you! I love my band!

These are the kind of posts I love.. so many successful bandsters. My NSV today is being able to have my Christmas shopping done and presents wrapped because I have so much more energy than I did before being banded. My other NSV is that I no longer run from cameras. We have had so many family functions where I refused to have my picture taken, it's a wonderful thing to not be ashamed of how you look. This surgery has enabled me to become more active and healthy. I am forever grateful to my surgeon and his staff for doing an excellent job for me.

Victorious Valentines - Feb. 08 - MASTER THREAD!

Thanks, everyone. I guess you could consider it an NSV. :cursing:
  8. I went in for my 6 month check up today and I have lost 75% of my excess weight. I am only 28 pounds from goal and I am down 5 sizes (20 -> 12). I feel great, I look great and I am oh so happy with myself. I can move better, I am exercising because I WANT to and I haven't been happier than I am right now in I don't know how long. So what dumbass move did I make today? I signed up for a Rugged Maniac that's coming to my town in the spring. WOOT!!! I am so excited. It's a 5k with 24 tough and muddy obstacles to conquer. There are walls to scale, fire pits to jump, logs to hop, ropes to climb, mud pits, nets... I am so freaking excited!!! What a HUGE NSV for me!!! Just the fact that I signed up and am ready to go for it tells me how far I've come in my confidence within myself physically and that's thrilling. The fact that my two girls (they will be 14 and 16 when the race comes) are doing it with me makes me giddy. What a wonderful memory this will make for us. I'm hoping hubby joins in, too!! My goal is to get within five pounds of goal by the time the event is here. The obstacles are pretty team oriented and there is always someone there to give you a hand up (or a push up if they are behind you) and it's about having fun more so than it is competitive. I think it would be much easier for someone to give my 150 pound ass up a 12 foot wall than where I am right now. And if I don't need help? EVEN BETTER!!!! www.ruggedmaniac.com If you want to check out pics!!

My mind has wondered to all my NSVs of 2013 all day!! I had surgery April 5th and my greatest NSV was finally making the decision to have the surgery!! Overcoming that fear, financial worry and other people's opinions was by far the greatest non scale victory! That NSV has led to countless NSVs over the following months. I spent the summer at the pool with my kids in a bathing suit, I went back and rode a roller coaster I was kicked off of because I didn't fit, I am able to wear my wedding ring again, a bath towel wraps around me, I can tie my shoes with no problem, I started my exercise regime with walking and now I can sprint at 11 mph on the treadmill, my daughter shows me her muscles and says "look I have muscles like you", I can dry my jeans in the dryer, I can shop in the regular section (down to a 13/14 from a 24/26), I look forward to getting up every day and I'm not ashamed to see myself in the mirror, I don't avoid going grocery shopping and wait until after midnight when the store is free of people, I am active with my children. I can keep going for days! My NSVs have changed my life in ways most people can't comprehend. I work very hard and use my band as a tool to keep me from binging. I have never had a fill. I workout 4-6 days a week now and I loosely follow Chris Powell's carb cycling plan. The band isn't losing the weight for me, it sure helps but I take credit for every drop of sweat I have left in my gym since I joined at the end of May! Lol 103 pounds gone and never going back! 19 pounds left to lose!

I have to take my engagement ring off - it's too big to wear. I'm going to have to get it sized because I'm afraid I'm going to lose it. I'm a little sad, but it's an NSV!

  15. It's been over 9 months and I'm just now getting up the guts to post before and afters. Right now my scale is broken but I know I'm over 60 lost. I still have 100 to go but today I had a HUGE NSV. I went to buy some new carpi's for work and before surgery I wore 28's (tight) 30/32's. Today I grabbed a 26 and too big. 24...too BIG! I bought 22's!!!! I can't remember the last time that happened. It's been over 10 years since I fit 22's!!! My shirts are still bigger because I carry my weight around my mid section, but I can now shop for shirts at lane bryant again. Anyways, I figured it's time to post some pic's. I finally see a difference! Thanks to everyone for being so inspiring! Love you all! First pic was taken a few days prior to surgery and the second was taken tonight!

So as I’m losing, my resting you know what face must be changing. Every time my daughter walks in the room this past week she looks at me and says,”what?!” Me: “what, what?!” She says, “you were making a face”. HUH?! Sitting doing and thinking absolutely nothing! It’s all I can figure out. 😐🤪😂Ps. I’m counting it as a NSV!! Lol
  20. I would like to start a thread that encourages long term vets to share their success patterns. It is an open discussion of strategies, NSVs and day to day habits that define your success in being able to maintain or even improve in terms of weight, health, activity or anything else connected to this journey. Life as a vet is where the real work happens so let's share in a way that motivates both new post ops for the future and current vets for the here and now. We have a whole new chapter in our lives to engage in positively as movers and shakers. Let this thread be a beacon of encouragement for all. We have a chance to make real positive differences in the lives of others we interact with.
  21. Backstory: A friend from high school came in town who I hadn't seen for four years. I had to go to her father's funeral, and we also were hanging out. It was my first time really letting go and having fun. So here are my NSVs 1) Started this journey at tight 28. Yesterday, had to go to a funeral - slipped on a size 22 no problem. Bit of a muffin-top issue, but my shirt was long/loose enough it didn't look funny. 2) After the funeral, food spread included: Turkey, ham, cheese, rolls (yum), carrot cake, chips & salsa. I had 2 slices turkey, 1 slice ham, and 2.5 slices cheese. NO BREAD!! 3) So I drank a fair amount of red wine yesterday... I think it ended up being around 3 glasses (probably ended up being around 200-300 calories). Well, after I was already basically tipsy/drunk, we went to another bar. I did not order another drink, which was good. Also, my friends ordered Pub Chips (delicious chips w/ seasoning, eat w/ ranch dressing). Even inebriated, I DID NOT PARTAKE!! 4) This morning I took her to my favorite Breakfast place (where they have like caramel pear french toast, and blts with eggs and pesto mayo - delicious). Well I ordered the smoked salmon wrap (smoked salmon, goat cheese, spinach, egg, tomato in a spinach tortilla) and subbed a house salad for the home fries. I ate 1/2 the wrap (fillings only), and about 1/2 the salad. And no bites of biscuits & gravy or strawberry pancakes! I rule! I realize a lot of these are "I didn't eat/drink X", but that is my hardest thing - to stick to the diet on the weekend, when I'm out, when I'm having fun, when I'm celebrating, when it's a special occasion - whatever. So it was really good for me to be able to say "This is a special occasion, and I can drink 3 glasses of wine, but it doesn't need to be 3 glasses of wine, plus pub chips, and rolls, and pancakes, etc." OH, and the SV: I woke up this morning, convinced I'd plateau'ed myself yesterday. Nope, down 2 more lbs!!

Okay.. dug out my initial measurements from my first meeting with Dr. Rose and my 6 month exam measurements... I think I've lost around 36 inches! WOW! July 4Th Challenge

I haven't done great this week. Being pre-op, I'm fining it harder than ever to not just eat everything in site! I did have a bit of a NSV: we went to a Chinese buffet and I ate half as much as I would have originally. That was a big deal for me. SW:310 Pre-surgery W: 292 Surgery Weight:? Current weight: 298 So I've gained 4 lbs. this week. Meh.

    And So Our Journey Begins...

So this lucky duck just went to Disneyland/California Adventure/Ikea from 9/11-9/13 and I walked my little butt off!! It was hot and sunny and humid and magical! I fit comfortably on every ride and in some cases with room to spare. It was really easy to find things to eat, I took a couple quest bars in case of emergency, and only ate 1. I left weighing 246.8 and came back weighing in this morning at 241.6. I think my body really needed the movement to break the slow loss pattern I had put myself in. I shared food when possible or ate small when I wanted, there was no typical snacking, and I was crushing it on the hydration front. The trip was awesome and I can't wait to go again!! In my personal life. I started seeing this guy, I reconnected with on OKCupid.com (I got an email from them that I am ranked one of their most attractive people in my area - NSV), that I knew from HS and I was really nervous to tell him about my surgery, I was pulling a classic Misty and overthinking it. We had our first (and second) meal together yesterday so I knew I had to tell him. He was really supportive and sweet about it. Not one drop of judgement to be found, and I was really relieved. I wasn't aware how stressed about it I was. He is also very much infatuated with my slowly changing body, even though I have a long ways to go he can't stop touching me, evidenced by spending about 9 hours in bed watching movies all day and cuddling. This surgery has given me so much more confidence than I have ever had about my body and in myself and it has been worth every moment of discomfort (of which there have been few). Oh! Random NSV, when I was showering this morning I was washing the soap off my shoulder and boom! I can feel my collarbone. Can't see it very much but I can feel it solidly right there. It was such a shocker, since I have NEVER in my left actually just felt it without searching for it. I'm a very happy lady these days! Thanks for reading!
