Genepro is crap. The company has been sued at least twice and just lost the most recent one. There is no such thing as "medical grade protein". It's whey. They came out and said it is just predigested whey that gets absorbed very quickly. It is not equivalent to 30g, it is at best 10g. The best thing to do with that crap is just chuck it in the trash. Yes it is on the bariatric store, but that is a store. It sole purpose is to sell things people will buy. And people buy Genepro because they want to believe it, not because it works. To your original question, mix your protein powders however you like. Whey, casein, pea, or soy... doesn't matter. It's no different than having a salad with chicken on top. There are some benefits to mixing proteins. BCAA content, absorption rate, bio-availability... experimentation in with this should be encouraged. And don't worry about taking in more than 30g-ish of protein at a time. RickM stated it well. You will absorb the protein eventually.

Opinions in Genepro protein powder?
Katcloudshepherd replied to Thinkingthinner1109's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use it. I mix it with my coffee. I love the fact it dissolves easily and has very little taste. I'm going to get some celery, carrots and apples and use my Vitamix high speed blender to start juicing. I can add the GENEPRO and get Protein in the mix. I find it too hard to get my vegetables and fruit in since I eat protein first. I use the Genepro to get to my daily requirement of protein. I order it on Amazon. Blessings, Kathleen -
Opinions in Genepro protein powder?

I love Genepro! My nut said it was ok. I use it along with another vanilla protein and skim milk and a little ice with some sugar free banana pudding and make a shake in the morning. With all of that it tastes great. And it has 59 grams of protein. It is great. Genepro can be added easily to anything, it's only about a tablespoon for 30 grams of protein instead of those huge scoops. It's been great! The other protein mix which is vanilla is unjury. -
Opinions in Genepro protein powder?

Love Genepro! It is medical grade protein. Although it has special instructions so it will dissolve, the serving of 30grams of protein in a tablespoon can't be beat. You can half it to make it last longer. I mix with yogurt, tea, coffee, oatmeal, diet hot chocolate, yams.. I have not tried to mix with cold liquids since with warm you have to make sure to pour over the powder or it just floats to the top and doesn't dissolve. Best price on Amazon $32-$37. I also have Premier shakes from Costco for a quicker option. -
I am 5 days post op and 1 thing before i forget, is I want to highly recommend the GENEPRO Protein flavorless. It gives you 30gms protein in one tablespoon, and I add it to clear broth, chicken, and does not change the flavor at all, and really helps to add to your protein intake for the day. I know people also like the Isopure, I think, but that is too much protein at once for me. Just a suggestion

I highly recommend everyone do their own research and judge for themselves about the claim of 30 grams of protein in one serving of Genepro. The claim is that you get the *equivalent* of 30 grams of protein because of their production process and how much of their protein is absorbed versus whey protein. But definitely read up on it and judge for yourself. Don't just take the claim at face value without doing your research.

Mine is June 5th (2 days left). I am doing my first clear liquid pre-op diet today. I am drinking premier protein for now, but I just ordered Genepro protein shakes too, as I heard that PP can get nauseating post-op from research. Good luck everyone!

Protein intake, struggling
Jdserra replied to vsgbeauty13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was a hard core GenePro fan up until today. I mix it with my coffee every morning. I've heard people saying that you don't get the full 30mg... it's more like 15mg but that's okay with me since it's so early in the day. I had my 5 month checkup today. my nutritionist had never heard of this brand. She looked it up while we were in the office and said it looked fine. But later in the day she sent me this message.(see below). So I guess it's not what we should be on. I'm going to switch over to Unjury, hopefully that brand mixes well into liquids. Btw it hasn't stopped me from losing weight. SW-235 CW-179 five months post op. "Hi Jessica, We met today and you mentioned you use Genepro as your protein supplement. That is actually not a supplement we recommend. Our bariatrician found no independent analysis to support the protein they claim to use: "instantized peptide whey, hydrolyzed whey and genetic hexapeptide protein." I encourage you to switch to another type of protein, for example Unjury or Isopure which both offer unflavored powders. Thank you, Karen Garcia-Herrera, MS, RD Center for Healthy Living, Fontana" -

I started the liquid diet today. So far I'm doing really well. I had a premiere protein shake(caramel) I added 1 scoop of genepro and topped it off with some coffee. That took me up until a little after 10 a.m. I started at 8:30 a.m. I'm not hungry but I have some Gatorade2 lime that I've been sipping on. I have some jello for lunch. I'm not supposed to start the diet until next Wednesday on the 22nd. However, I want to start early so that I can get the most out of my sleeve. Surgery is on March 1st. Pray for me Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Update on OCt sleevers.....
beckipastor replied to ppressey24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery 10/18 and started puree this Thursday and eating is freaking me out. I've tried yogurt, cottage cheese, lentil soup and Saturday I tried premade pouch tuna salad. I assumed the nausea I was experiencing was from my cancer meds but maybe it's from the surgery too. Today was the first time I didn't lose over night. Trying not to freak out. I finally found a way to get all the Protein in..... flavorless GENEPRO in sugar free pudding (1tblsp = 30g) Still in muscular pain from the surgery and exercise is still difficult but I'm building up every day. I do see the loss in clothes. Mostly shirts as my abdomen is still kind is swollen. I did make the ricotta bake but found myself eating too much. Anyone else having trouble determining full.... at first with liquids I figured it out right away. Now I can't really tell which scares me. Sent from my SGH-T999 using the BariatricPal App -
I'm with UalreadyKnow! I just throw some unflavored genepro powder in my coffee and go! Good luck!

Flavorless Protein powder

I like GENEPRO and also Syntrax unflavored. I don't find that they change the flavor for most things, but I'm very sensitive to texture and it does change that IMHO. -
Which sites did you buy Genepro from?

Hi everyone, I just had my gastric bypass done on 5/30/2018 (last Wednesday). I am on stage 2 diet and it's a lot of liquids. I am also vegetarian, so it's hard to get my protein in. I like Genepro and I was wondering if I could add it to No sugar added "light start" instant breakfast. In my handbook from the hospital it says "sugar free" instant breakfast. I'm just so confused if the "no sugar added" and the "sugar free" are the same. It has 60 calories per packet and 7g sugar. I'd mix it with almond milk. Is it okay to drink? Thanks everyone. I'm new to this site, so i hope I'm doing this correctly! ps- Any vegetarians on here? What ways do you get protein in?

Once you are at the puree stage - refried beans are delicious! You probably still need to supplement for a while though. I bought Genepro Unflavored Protein powder and have added to puree butternut squash and sugar free pudding. You can add it to anything.

Talk with you NUT about Genepro because my NUT and a dietician says it's not good protein that you really only get about 10g of protein. The rest is amino acids. I no longer use Genepro.

Try adding something like GENEPRO Protein powder to things. They say it has no taste. You shouldn't even know it's in your food or drink. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G750A using the BariatricPal App

Any April surgery buddies

Oh, Nikki31, I’m sorry you’re going through a tough time. I have to admit, as soon as I got home, I tried a new protein drink from Core Power. In one sip, it didn’t sit right. I thought maybe I’m not ready for shakes, but tried again, and the 2nd sip felt like I was gonna die. I can’t even explain the pain. Needless to say, I will never touch a Core Power anything. I got an Ensure in the hospital, and I tried that, and didn’t have a problem with gas or bloating. I’ve since tried Premier and Genepro, and have been fine. You might consider unflavored protein, and you can sprinkle that thing in anything. I even put it in my flavored water for added bonus. Genepro and Unjury have one, and both are available online or GNC. Wishing you well! -

Why different diets from different doctors?
BigSue replied to Normandagle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My plan allowed refried beans in the puréed stage, but they said to purée the beans before eating them (even though they’re already mashed, there are still some lumps). I don’t see why you couldn’t do that unless they’re concerned about the carbs or the fiber or something. I ate a lot of refried beans with Genepro during my puréed stage! i think the reasons plans differ so much is that everybody responds slightly differently to the surgery, so there’s no one single plan that works for every patient. I think most surgeons do their best to come up with a plan that will work for most patients, and this is probably based on their own patients’ experiences. There are definitely similarities among almost all plans, but I’m guessing each surgeon tweaks the plan a bit as they go. Maybe yours noticed that a lot of patients had problems with beans during the puréed stage. It would be easiest to use the strictest rules for everyone, but they also try to balance it with compliance, because they realize that a lot of patients won’t stick with a plan that is excessively restrictive. I’ve adhered pretty closely to my surgeon’s plan, except that I stayed on puréed foods for a few weeks longer than required because I was afraid to try soft foods at two weeks and didn’t want to take any chances. I’m also not eating as many calories as they say I should because I’ve found it’s practically impossible to get 800-1000 calories within the guidelines they gave (3 meals per day, no more than 4 ounces per meal, no snacks other than protein drinks between meals), and I’m not hungry, so I don’t really want to eat any more than 500-600. The only thing I’ve added that they said not to but I’ve seen others eat is low-carb tortillas. A lot of people here love the 1 net carb tortillas from Mr. Tortilla, so I bought some even though my plan says no tortillas for the first year (I’m pretty sure they mean regular tortillas, and they might be ok with the 1 net carb tortillas, but I haven’t asked). -
