  1. @@Okiebon I am scheduled for my 3 month follow-up next week, and I assume I will be getting bloodwork then. I'll post and let you know after I get my results. I also have a friend I met in our support group who is a month ahead of me, who is also using only GENEPRO, and I'll contact her and see if she's had blood work yet and what her results were. So far, I've had no problems. I've not noticed any hair loss yet and I have tons of energy, and my weight loss is pretty steady. Carol
  2. I have done a few half marathons but I am thinking about doing a full. I am nervous and wondering how you manage your food intake on long run days? or during the race? I run in the mornings so I usually just have a cup of coffee with GENEPRO in it. And then if I do 8-10 miles I might have a few gel chews. Thanks so much. ~LA

    I'm struggling with muscle loss.

Genepro claims 30 grams per serving. The only problem is, each serving is 15 grams by volume, and 4 grams by weight. You can't put two pounds of poop in a one pound bag. They claim to reduce the size of the molecules. I can pretty much guarantee if they had that kind of tech, they would be doing something more lucrative than peddling Protein powder.

    Mixing protein powder

My go-to (because I cannot stand the taste of any flavored regular whey or protein powder) is mixing Genepro (unflavored) with vanilla almond milk and sugar-free chocolate syrup. I use a Blender Bottle to mix it, and it's never thick. I use about 6 to 8oz of the almond milk, a squeeze of the chocolate, a serving of Genepro, and then shake, shake, shake!

    Why is everything sweet?

I would be cautious about counting 15 grams of Genepro as 30 grams of protein. The science is still out on it, so to speak. No independent studies have verified those claims. I would still only count it as 15 grams until there is more evidence available. Getting the benefits of the extra protein won't hurt you if their claims are true. But thinking you are meeting your protein goals and really only getting half as much as you need really could cost you down the line. So my advice would be to still count a serving as 15 grams for the purposes of meeting your daily goal and if you come out ahead, all the better.

    4 Days Post

Today I had cream of wheat with a little agave. Propel water, protein pudding, cup of half broth and half cream of mushroom soup strained of course, added my genepro flavorless powder, water, 1/2 Greek yogurt 1/2 applesauce. So far I'm at 55 grams of protein. I'm happy.

    4 Days Post

I know it's been so much easier than I anticipated. I'm feeling very blessed for that. My program doesn't have me starting protein until tomorrow. I won't have any problems because I love Greek yogurt, protein pudding, genepro flavorless powder for soup. Are you already doing protein? I am doing cream of wheat in the morning though. I hope you're doing better tomorrow. Are you on Pepcid?

    Why is everything sweet?

After a lot of Googling this subject I found a product called GENEPRO. It takes half the amount that you need of other products for the same quantity of Protein because they put it thru a process that takes all the excess unnecessay byproducts out. It also mixes easier because of this and as far as taste, I myself barely taste it. I have mixed it in cold and hot drinks and foods and it mixes very easily. I am very impressed with this product. Sent from my LG-E980 using the BariatricPal App I looked this up and consulted my surgeons office and they have signed off on Genepro and recommend it. Unfortunately, it is not listed in any of the materials we were given as an option!! Also, I did force down a Priemere Protein shake yesterday which left me bloated and feeling crappy. During the same phone call asking about Genepro I mentioned this and was told if protein were on a grading scale of A-F my Dr's office looks at Priemere as a 'D'... Why in the hell not mention that? It's like they get an unjury kickback. Everything I've read is as above, barely able to taste it and the same protein content using half the product. I ordered mine from Amazon and it should get here tomorrow. In the meantime I was told JRobb and nectar are good alternatives and single packets are available at The Vitamin Shoppe. Thanks to everyone for their help it is so appreciated. I'm glad I could help you with finding something that works for you. You will find plenty of naysayers that want to tell you it is probably bogus but if your surgeon approves it you should feel comfortable using it as directed and not doubling up like others may suggest. There have been plenty of people who have been using it as directed and their numbers are coming back just fine. I have not read anything about the opposite being true. Not to mention the waste of money that would be. Your bloodwork should dictate if it works or not. Good luck! Sent from my LG-E980 using the BariatricPal App
  9. I have no attachment to Built Bars (protein bars are not my thing), but I didn’t read anything damming in that article. I’d have to see the evidence in the lawsuit to determine if the company is in the wrong and is undeserving of my business. (For instance, I would never purchase Genepro due to the evidence in the lawsuit against them, and Genepro’s lack of response to the suit)

    Easy protein hack!

I'm only a week post op, but had used GENEPRO during my pre-op and even before that. Its tasteless, mixes well in just about anything I've tried. I know so many who are using it and they are all having good results. "Come off as bro-science d-bags". Why because they are muscle guys? What is your background that you say its not scientific enough.
  11. Thank for this cause I had my surgery Tuesday and I'm hating these protein drinks I got about 15 grams of protein yesterday I will try this Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App I swear by Genepro Unflavored. I put it in my hot tea 3 times a day. 90 grams protien quick and easy. It's not clumpy ( keep temp under 140) no taste no smell. It makes it look milky but I love it. I couldn't drink any powdered or prepared shakes. It caused terrible cramps, diaherra vomiting. Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App I too swear by it. But I do think it has a horrible smell. Which is why I mix it with just a shot of milk. I have a very strong sense of smell.....My husband didnt smell or taste anything when in had him try it. I suppose everyone is different. What I really love is that it's a tablespoon instead of a large scoop. But really, I would never have gotten to my protein requirements If not for this stuff. I had literally tried everything! So I do not complain every couple weeks when I go spend the $35 on a canister of it. Lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Post-Op Protein HELP!!

I am right there with you. The struggle is so real and everyone seems to think you just have to "find a way" but the fact is, you are trying but your body and stomach just rejects it. I had to pray and get divine power because I was in tears. I'm not there yet, but I am seeing a little progress in tolerance for the Genepro protein powder if I put it in liquid first, shake well and then put it in soups I enjoy ( the broth). I have a ninja blender so it blends any grit taste out 90%. I'm learning to give myself a good balance of grace and perseverance through drinking. Nothing is Goldilocks "just right" perfect yet, but I've accepted that that's okay. It's easy for some people to get there protein grams in and others struggle, but know that you doing great. You made a healthy and bold decision for a better life, applaud yourself for that first! I made this post a few days ago and maybe it will help you. Just look for the title in this thread and feel free to private message me if you need to. You are NOT ALONE!!! Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. I love breakfast, so I can't imagine not having some kind of breakfast. When I'm in a rush, I'll just put 6 ounces of almond milk, packet of decaf folgers instant coffee, scoop of genepro unflavored protein powder, and a pump of Jordyn's skinny mix coffee syrup in a shaker bottle and drink that at work. If I'm really pressed for time, I grab a pre-made protein drink. If I have time though, I'd rather eat food and I enjoy scrambled eggs, my version of egg salad, or high protein oatmeal. Severely Constipated.

Surgery 8/18/17 & life has changed dramatically. I rarely had a constipation issue before, after...my gut went into lockdown. Major taste changes, amount, speed of eating, all changed. Get it wrong, too fast, (still can't handle beef or chicken well) & I'll be nauseous, salivating like a water faucet left on, stomach pain. If I'm lucky, I'll throw up, usually saliva, maybe a tiny bit of food. Then, I'm good. But, the worst was gut on lock. I mean, ZERO URGE......until what went in must go. Pain...? Wow..! So, here's my routine now. Most mornings, oatmeal w/Genepro, maybe unsweetened applesauce mixed in. Btw..glad someone mentioned PRUNES! I will incorporate that too. BEANS...I try to have them in some form at lunch daily. Don't overdo cheese! But, most importantly, I take the recommended dose of Yerba Prima Fiber Plus caps (5 caps) at minimum, every other day. Once a day has worked well for me. BUT, I am going to try a few of the other methods too and see how those work for me. Glad this topic was posted!

    any June Sleevers??

Mine is June 5th (2 days left). I am doing my first clear liquid pre-op diet today. I am drinking premier protein for now, but I just ordered Genepro protein shakes too, as I heard that PP can get nauseating post-op from research. Good luck everyone!

    Weekend Protein...

I'm with UalreadyKnow! I just throw some unflavored genepro powder in my coffee and go! Good luck!
  18. Yasman

    Protein!

Yes. Musclegen makes an unflavored powder called GENEPRO which one tablespoon equals 30g of protein. You can mix it with yogurt, pudding, uncarbonated drinks (I tried it in diet coke one day and it was like a neverending fountain of foam. NOT a good idea...). It's great in coffee and sweet tea, I do it all the time. You can search for Genepro on Amazon.com and if you're a prime member you don't have to pay for the shipping.

Almost 1 yr post op-willing to mentor :)

I am having trouble getting to my Protein quota set by my doctor; at least 75-85 grams per day. I have been mixing Protein Powder with Protein drinks just to get more in the mornings...but, boy oh boy, the calories add up. My morning routine comes to about 516 calories. That's one serving of Chobani yogurt with 1 packet of unflavored protein power and one Lean Body Protein shake with one packet of unflavored protein powder. Those three items add up to more than half of the 800 calories I've been trying to stick to as advised for these first few months. I also take a handful of Vitamins which must be worth at least 5-10 calories each. Wondering if anyone knows anything about GENEPRO Genetic Tri-Protein Peptide. It says it contains 30 grams of protein (instanized peptide whey, hydrolyzed whey, and genetic hexapeptide protein. Is this the kind of protein I want and need? One thing nice is that the serving size (one scoop) is much smaller than the packets like unjury or Jarrrow Formulas, which I have been using. Plus it's only got 15mg of sodium. But is it the "right kind" of protein???? Thanks to anyone who can whey in on this topic

    Unflavored Protein

I also use the Unjury, but I’m considering the GENEPRO. I’ve seen labs that have been drawn that were GENEPRO vs regular and the GENEPRO labs actually did have more protein in the blood than the others. Not a drastic amount, but every little bit counts. My advice is to do your own research before you don’t consider GENEPRO at all. There are a lot of independent studies out there.

    Unflavored Protein

The Genepro argument - and it always turns into an argument - basically boils down to the people who use it refuse to accept they are wrong. MuscleGen had to come clean and admit they were lying, but the people who were fooled don't want to admit they were fooled. I get it, it's embarrassing to be wrong sometimes. But adamantly refusing to accept the truth only makes the person look more foolish. Perfect example was when I used to preach the substitution of pork rinds for anything crunchy, because... you know, they are pure protein! Well, when I finally understood that collagen protein is worthless I had to fess up and admit I was wrong. (I will admit that we still use the rinds to coat our fish when we air fry them.)
