    Lapband removal

Hello, I had my SLIMBAND removed in December 2014. In November of 2014 I was informed by an independent surgeon there has not been even a gastric pouch since November of 2013. How many of SLIMBAND patients are there that think they have a gastric pouch for weight loss and don't, and are still paying??

Slimband formerly TLBC Clinic Toronto On

I like the idea, but who would do it. At the moment, I am using Slimband. They had a type of challenge but that ended and there was no accountability in the program such as weight recording, so now I use fitday which works well. I purchased the program and I am able to record my food intake, weight, moods, etc. I also go to a support group which is all important to have people contact. Guess what I am saying, is I would join if someone set up such a program.
  3. woo hoo! finally got time to come back on and see everyone who I have missed chatting with. Things are going well here and my weight is now going down again after a looooong plateau. I ended up adopting another dog to help make me get out for more walks. I am so pleased with Slimband and there efforts to find a closer fill doctor in the area which they have just announced they got one in Sudbury. I met with him and seen Belina and Nancy and got another fill yesterday. Whats going on with the rest of you ladies these days? Is everyone having a good summer? Whats been your challenges this summer?
  4. I have to agree, that while I have figured it out, that I don't think that the slimband site is user friendly either. I work with computers and websites all day and I've had to create a bookmark for the forum section and the main pages as I couldn't find a link from one to the other. They say they've made improvements and I hope that addresses that issue. It is a benefit to have the nutritionists chiming in from time to time though in the forums. And has anyone participated in the online chats? The one that I participated in with Jodi was billed as "Ask our nutritionist questions about your progress and anything about diet and nutrition" or something similar. I left in frustration after about twenty minutes after reading all the other "crap" about what movies people had seen etc. When I asked a question, someone asked me who I was addressing! I thought "I thought this was to ask the nutritionist a question!" Have other chats been more about what the topic is intended? Surely those people can have chats with their friends at other times? With all the other cross conversations going on, I never got an answer in the end. Maybe I'm more conscious of my time and don't have the patience but if the chats are hijacked as get togethers, I feel that defeats the purpose of them. Mary
  5. Very simple, you have a wonderful doctor. Some doctors do not consider the CD as training nor do their assocations. My doctor said he would then backtracked. Also, support is not 100% fills. Support is being able to get answers to worries or questions ASAP. As the band is a new experience, I had some concerns in the first year. Now I am a bit more comfortable and we have an established support group things have gotten better. The fact Slimband staff did not consider travel costs and just cancelled the fill appointments is a classic problem I went through. They did a blanket cancellation with no thought to the expenses long distant travellers must pay. All though all the staff are very nice there just seems to be a lack of communications between each other. Hopefully, things will improve as this new group get themselves organized.

    TLBC Clinic- Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Congrats Jorja, I am so excited that Slimband is sending a fill nurse to you. I am glad to see that they are doing the right thing. It is a good move on their part! I am glad that you wrote about your experiences on this site I think it helped you get the positive response that you did from Slimband. I hope that the people that read these posts who don't like negative things written about ones own personal experiences should know that good things can come out of it! Right Jorja:thumbup: I personally love to hear the good, bad and the ugly, but unfortunately it gets out of hand at times, i got caught up in it as well and I apologize for that, but I must admit these posts are entertaining. Doddie, You have a good balance in your posts, I wish mine could come across as well as yours do! Keep it up.

    Slimband March 2017 closing

Hi everyone , has anyone been in contact or had a fill from slimband that could pass on contact information ? I just found out in the fall when I had something stuck in my band that the office is closed . I went to emergency where they defilled me but now I need a refill !! HELP please !! Not happy gaining weight back !!
  9. Slimband is the name of a company (formerly TLBC) and lapband is the name of the product . There are a number of companies selling different bands. With the Slimband clinic, the surgeon puts on the band that best suits his patients at time of surgery. I am not sure of the bands they carry.
  10. Hi Green: Yes I prefer TLBC over Slimband. I wish they would go back. I have had great success with my band. There was a time (lst years) that I had difficulty with aftercare communications but that was sorted out. Now I am happy on my journey.

    TLBC Clinic- Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Hi Mimi, I had the same question myself when I was researching lapband, the clinic TLBC changed their name to Slimband. (they might be considering a new name change again due to these posts though) LOL!!!!
  12. One of my concerns is the local residents have access to a psychologist (so the event calendar indicates) but we don't. As tango indicated if she had access to some mentoring on how to deal with frustrations and stress without the use of food, the situations may have been handled better. Many people spend their life savings or go into debt to have the band so can't afford private sessions. When Slimband have such an individual available to some clients the effort should be made to make it available to all. And yes, I have expressed this opinion to them.
  13. Hi eveyone, been reading lots on this site and learning a lot. I've made the decision - I am going for the surgery! Now I just have to decide where and when. Previously, there had been almost nothing but positives about TLBC/Slimband but now I'm starting to have second throughts. I really like that it is so conveniently located to me and they do seem to promise you all sorts of after care support - but they can "say" anything right? So I guess I'm asking - what have you received? Particularly those who live in/near the clinic? What services have you used or been able to access? Other than fills, what do they do for you after the surgery? Are the support groups or other follow ups? Thanks everyone and congrats on all your progress - I look forward to beginning my own journy soon!
  14. I would also like to be involved, I am currently having problems with mine and it looks like I will have to get it removed. I have had mine for almost 5 years and had problems with it from the very beginning. There was no support and no weight loss. Slimband was the biggest mistake of my life, pain, throwing up and now it’s no longer working, I can’t wait to get it out of me.
  15. Michael Scott Smith of Slimband's Previous COO. and a few EX-employees also sued him and won. He currently still owns and operates https://creditmedical.com/ a company that finances medical procedures. While the Image on the web site still shows 64 Prince Arthur Ave. and address shows 1200 Bay St., Toronto, ON M2R 2A5, that is actually not where it is located. The actual location is kept a secret. It will be extremely difficult to file a claim against Michael Scott Smith now. It's also important to note, he has previously been convicted more than once for fraud. and has the resources to play " Catch me if you can" .
  16. I have contacted a legal firm in Vancouver that already has a class action against the company that makes Lap-Band. Since we already have many people interested in a class action against Slimband, they might just take the case on a contingency basis (i.e. they would get 10% of any money recovered). I will let you know if/when I hear back from them. Since the Slimband clinic is closed, that would not be our target. And unfortunately it wouldn't be Dr. Patrick Yau either. It would be the owner of BOTH Slimband clinic and CreditMedical.com where many of us got our medical loans from, as it is still practicing and making TONS of money charging huge interest rates on medical loans. Where there's big money, you can bet a lawyer is going to be interested - especially since they've probably already done a lot of research into banding for their initial suit. Personally I will probably have the band removed at some point but not until I can find a surgeon that will revise my RNY to make the pouch smaller. I had an RNY in 2002 and the pouch expanded so I got the Slimband in 2013 to increase restriction again. If I take the band off, I will still have the big pouch, and I don't want that. I expect that with missed work due to Slimband complications since January 2013, I will be owed in the tens of thousands of dollars easily.
  17. Yes are you able to practise in Canada? If you have experience in Class Action suits and defective medical devices that would be great. The doctor and the clinic I don't think are where we go from here. I think it is to go after the its a multiple party law suit where Slimband is part of it but the financial company which is the same partners as the clinic and governing corporate parties, and the big boys to bring to the table is the manufacture of the lapband that is causing is a complete malfunctioning device and causing massive health issues for all us that in some cases have been life threatening and incorrectable. So definitely if your a lawyer that could spear head a class action suit here in Canada you will have a lot of plaintiffs that are more then willing to step up and provide a case for you that will be lucrative to all parties!
  18. GOOOD NEWS!!! I directly contact to Jacquelin Palef from Lerners Lawyer firm in Toronto who interested to do Lawsuit class action against Slimband/ Allegran Inc. She is expertise defective medical devices and she had worked many class action. I spoke to her the phone personally and she mentioned she will take up to the board first to confirmed and then we go ahead from there. I would need hear back her from next following two week. Let keep our finger crossed.
  19. Hi There, I'm glad you won your case. Did you go to Small Claims? So all doctors have to have errors and omission insurance which lawsuits fall under. So I would think that they would be required to pay you out of that. I;m thinking that the company name, and all Dr's that are partners in the company are named personally. I had a lapband performed Dec 2007. I lost over 250 pounds in total during my time but I was never able to get a fill. I would throw up for days and have to go back and have it unfilled. I mainly drank protein shakes, water and exercised non stop. The clinic never returned calls. And Two years ago I had to have my band remove because it has destroyed my esophagus so badly and I was constanly bleeding internally and my hemoglobin had hit so low that I was going weeks not able to get out of bed. Dr. Yau was suspended after and sold the Lapband Clinic to Slimband but apparently kept performing and working there. I have spent so much money and lost so much money because of being self employed and not being able to work so often due to my health. I would like to begin a law suit if anyone else is interested.
  20. Everybody just stay tuned to this thread and I will update when I have more information about a class action. If anybody is part of any other weight loss support groups that include Slimband patients, please let them know about this. I am sure that with the statistics given in the news story I posted (and will post again) about necessary removal, that we could get numbers into the hundreds and they will HAVE to pay - especially us gals that had to go through Credit Medical to get the ridiculous loan for the procedure. As of 2017, over 200 bands have had to be removed. https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/gastric-band-surgery-marketplace-1.4479735
  21. I wouldnt go that route because its expensive and u might not get anything out of them. There is a lawfirm in b.c that is handling a class action for all lapbands. Slimband declared bankruptcy so they are going after the makers of lapband. The info should be on this forum maybe page 8 or 9 so check that out and enter ur name.

  24. Just a question Heather! Your last band must be with Slimband and that being the case you should be ok.
