Hoping to go from band to sleeve -- any issues?
Lynn B replied to chica's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
HI - I'm also a new band/sleeve revision hopeful. Nice to meet you! My surgeon is submitting my paperwork right now and in 2-3 weeks I should be able to schedule my revision date. I may be the oddity around here. I've never hated my band - I've lost 90 lbs and have kept it off for the past 4+ years. I guess I just learned to live with the food restrictions and PB episodes. Now that I'm unfilled eating so so much easier (to easy says the 3 lbs I've put on). I started having severe reflux 6 months ago and finally went in for an Upper GI - my pouch was dilated all the way around. My doc wanted it out but I didn't until I came home and researched......I fully believe that since I've had this issue I will have more in the future so that is why I have decided on a revision...that and no more PB, stuck first bite, watching people eat while I drool and try not to throw up. It will be nice to have a "normal" relationship with food. Good luck! -
Hoping to go from band to sleeve -- any issues?
mommytoethan replied to chica's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
yes, my insurance covered the revision at 100%. i didn't pay a single cent. all my doctor did was submit my clinicals with a recomendation that the band be removed and the sleeve done. approval only took 2 days. -
@@augkash - are you getting revised?
-
Jachut is right! Don't risk having problems with the band. I've had to have revision surgery and believe me, you don't want to risk it. Losing a little slower than you'd like is better than losing the band altogether! Good luck!

Sleeve to Bypass info needed
crazzeescrapper replied to crazzeescrapper's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Good luck on your surgery tomorrow! Please keep us posted on how your revision goes. -
thanks for the welcome, everyone. Karey, I just had the sleeve: never had a band. you need to get imput from revision people. I can tell you I am very glad I didn't get a band, did not want fills, am glad I never have to worry about a slip. about "eating around" it - you can defeat any surgery. experiences differ, I had a honeymoon period of just over 6 months where I could not have gained weight if I had wanted to but now I am to the point that I could. it's still a tool - you have to change your eating habits forever. yes, I exercise and it's easier than when I was obese! Jackie edited to add: I can eat any kind of food, it's all about the amount.

Hi all, Just wondering what bypass peeps are eating 5 weeks out. Not sure if there is a thread / topic already. I know we each follow our doctors / nut's plans / advice but just wondered what people are doing and looking to share dietary plans / advice. My WLS journey was Band, Band to Sleeve, then Sleeve to Bypass. (Yep 3 ops!). Pre band weight - 136kg Weight at last revision (Bypass) on the 10th May 2016 - 103kg Weight today - 94.9kg Goal weight - 80kg Here's what I'm having each day this week : 630am - I have a 250ml glass of Water and my Multivitamin liquid, Biotin liquid, sublingual B12. 0730am - (On the way to work) 2 x calci-chews with vit D and a coffee (250ml) with fat free added Calcium milk and a stevia for sweetener. 1000am - At work around 10am I'll have 1 scrambled egg with a low fat slice of cheese in it (can do it in the microwave). 12pm - I'll have a super greens type drink (500ml) with chia seeds and konjac root powder added to thicken it a little and maybe a little flavour free Protein powder. 2pm - Pre made portion of pureed chicken breast with veggies (200ml) Then just water / tea / coffee until I'm home. A couple of coloxyl and Senna laxative tablets if I need them. 6pm - Another pre made pureed chicken breast with veggies (200ml) 8pm - Half an Optifast lemon water desert (love them!) with sugar free jelly. (200ml) Then just tea and water until bed time. Might chuck a bit of benefibre in if I feel like it. Sometimes if I'm hungry anywhere in between the above I'll add up to 1 Protein shake / optifast Soup with konjac root powder to thicken a little. I find adding a small amount of the konjac root powder, just thickens liquidy type drinks ever so slightly increase my satiety. Also I'm 8 weeks of the cigarettes and no booze for ages :-( lol. I'm planning on a glass of wine or maybe 2 as a treat when I get to 90kg though :-) Does anyone else use Konjac root? Looking forward to your replies :-) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hi, everybody, my name is Jackie and I had VSG last August. I've been on OH for over a year now but I came here to check out your board. at 8 months out I've stopped losing: I'm about 5 pounds above goal and over-all feeling pretty good. no more honeymoon, though, so there are issues to tackle! who is here, mostly pre-ops? revisions? whoever you are, nice to meet you! Jackie edited to add: what does "furl this post" mean?

I was wondering if any who has the lap band has pain at the port site? I'm the process of having a revision with the gastric bypass because I plateaued about 7years ago and there a lot of issues with it like acid reflux, getting food stuck and then vomiting and having port pain too. I had the band since 2009 . Sent from my SM-G930P using BariatricPal mobile app

No no no.You are just going through the same thing a lot of us felt when we were healed! Now is of course the critical decision making time.Do you want to succeed or not?How do I get back on track and stay there? Was all the suffering I've gone through for nothing and if I dont beat this now, then what? What is our options really as you cna revise to another surgery but that is no guarantee for success either. We can all eat a lot of carbs. And if we eat carbs with Protein we can even eat more protein, well I can. When I eat dense protein only,I can only eat a small portion so that should be where you start again. Protein first. What I do when I fall totally off plan,I reset.Which means this for me.For 3 days,I eat protein only. For meals, for Snacks. And I dont limit my meals to 3 but I snack on protein when I want to.By day 3 you dont feel like eating the snacks anymore and then you are ready to incorporate veggies again, and after 3 days of protein only,to me the veggies seems like heaven..lol I doubt your sleeve has stretched already at 4 months out. You've just fallen into bad habits and thank goodness your tummy will still restrict you if you eat your Proteins first. Call it a carb detox. Its tough but you can make up your own rules and your own plan and then you decide to stick to it.Take responsibility for what you eat one meal at a time. You can do this! I often read this thread of "what have you eaten today, sleevers?" and then I wonder what they would say if I would post what I ate that day?Failure! Not true.We are human and sometimes have to learn hard lessons. Now seems to be yours.Mine was at 5 months out. You can get back on track, you dont have to eat what you can eat, just because you can. This can be in your control.I can really relate to how you feel.Took me quite a while before I stopped being mad for even being able to eat all the junk I could until I gave myself a good talking to and decide to beat the flab for once and for all. So,I'll be waiting for your post that says...back on plan and feeling great!

Revision when your Insurance only covers One surgery per lifetime
Aurelia posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So I have a bit of a complex issue. I had the Lapband put in 2009 and had great success. In 2015 I developed an antibiotic resistant port infection and had to have my band removed. I’m trying to get approved for the gastric sleeve but my insurance has denied saying I’m only allowed one surgery per lifetime. Has anyone ever successfully got them to approve it with peer to peer review. Trying to arm myself with as much info as possible. -
CPT Code(s) for a bariatric revision
former_vbg posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I found out a few days the surgeon I was supposed to be having surgery with next week has been less than honest on submitting for my pre-certification. They didn't even submit for the revision itself, just the sleeve. It's a really long story and still unraveling actually. Aetna has gotten involved and I believe that surgeon's office is now being investigated for violating their contract. Anyways, I could really use some help with anyone who has access to CPT codes. I am changing surgeons obviously, but now that I am a bit wiser on what to watch on the pre-certification process, I was hoping someone could look up what the code is for a bariatric revision. I don't know if it is broken down based on say a lapband to a sleeve or in my case a vbg to the sleeve. I do know that the revisions are bundled and paid as such, which is one of the reasons this surgeon's office tried to pull a fast one. Never in my life has I experienced such outright deception in something like this. The kicker is, Aetna has them on a recorded line admitting they were doing this- but not realizing it until it was too late. Aetna really stepped up to the plate for me on this one. So, please anyone that might be able to help me on this- I would really appreciate it. PM me if you prefer. Thanks. p.s. I didn't post this in the insurance section because I didn't think it would get as much attention there. -
Post Surgery Workouts?
band2sleeveinNoVA replied to band2sleeveinNoVA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was working out 6 days a week but I also was 2+ yr out of Lapband surgery and have lost 100 lbs. I had my revision to the sleeve on 5/23 after my band slipped. I know that's why I am so eager to get back to my routine because I feel better when I'm working out and sweating, also I have a feeling my pain levels were next to nothing because I'm numb from my belly button to my very upper thighs from my skin removal/abdominoplasty. You'll feel like working out when your body is ready - it helped me a ton with the loose skin! -
Scared..but Anxiously Waiting..and Counting The Days!
kmiller replied to Barbiedoll77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Barbiedoll, I will be having my surgery on May 1. Mine is going to be a revision, so I had something similar before. That was 20 some years ago. I had a midline incision then. They don't do that much now, except for me. I'm a re-do. I don't know if this will make you feel any better, but I have had deep vein thrombosis many many times. I had to go in and have a filter put into a vein by my heart to prevent a clot from going anywhere else. I just say all that to say this, With our weight, diabetes, ( yes, I have that too ) and our leg vein issues we really are doing the best for our health. I too am afraid of dying, but i know who holds my future. Pray for peace. -
I wasn't aware that a revision would help with that.

VSG Revision?
trace00@yahoo.com replied to Zoumommy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am 5 months post op revision. I started having reflux (and had prior) to vsg. Took meds for it, however only lost 30lbs with it. My doctor and her practice closed when I was 3 months post op. When I did follow up was about 2 years later because my reflux had became so extreme. My md did an egd and saw an obstruction. The Endo capsule also revealed reflux 4x what was considered severe. I elected to revise to bypass per his decision. However once inside he saw no usable portion of my stomach so he took out whole stomach and made pouch out of esophageal lining (also re routed everything like a bypass). Since surgery I have had absolutely no reflux or nausea!!!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I am nine months out after my VSG and my reflux issues are very bad despite max doses of PPIs , Ranitidine and regular Antiacids. I now have Barretts Esophagus and Chronic Gastritis. My surgeon and GI doc and GP are all saying Revision is not going to be an answer, but the evidence I've read seems to indicate it is a viable option. The recent concerns of a possible link between use of PPIs and Dementia really worries me and I am going to try and push forward with the Revision. I've also been reading about and interesting surgical option, the Linx Ring. I'd like to hear from anyone who has had the Revision for Reflux and also from anyone who has or had Chronic Gastritis after VSG. Did it resolve itself eventually? Thanks, Pam VSG May 27th,2015. 90 lbs lost

What was the deciding factor?
nursebeccarn replied to Tgarden's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am in no way a veteran, but I can tell you why I chose it: My band surgeon doesn't do band to sleeve revisions, he too advised me to have the bypass. There is a common belief ( whether it's true or not) that band to sleeve revisions are not as successful and therefore the bypass is recommended. However, my personal reason were I did not want a forces malabsorption syndrome, I had less than 100lbs to lose, and wanted to have kids without all the risks of being a high risk pregnancy. I decided the sleeve was the right choice for me and found a surgeon that supported my decision. I can tell you 110% that I am happy with my decision and felt like it was the right choice for me. You have to decide what is right for you.... Good luck to you! This is a great group! -

VSG Revision?
trace00@yahoo.com replied to Zoumommy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Yeah unfortunately I didn't lose much weight with the vsg. I've lost 70lbs so far since my revision. However I would've done it anyway because my reflux and nausea was so bad prior to. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

pre-op 2 week sleeve diet -ahhhhhh!!!
4meonly replied to neworleanslady's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my revision from band to sleeve almost 3 months ago. I had it done in Mexico by Dr. Aceves. It was a wonderful experience. I had the sleeve done because I was having problems getting the fill level right. I would either be too loose or too tight. After 2 1/2 years of that, I decided to go for the sleeve. I was a self pay, also. The sleeve is great!!! -
Choosing new procedure; not worth complications
Tiffykins replied to joyfuljoy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Best wishes Joy. Sadly, complications can happen with any surgery. The risks of complications from other surgical related issues is actually higher than the 1% risk for leaks if you have an experienced, and trusted surgeon. My complications were directly related to my band destroying my stomach tissue, and as a revision, my risks quadrupled. The main complications were related to anesthesia complications, and had nothing to do with the sleeve. I knew it going in. I have a 12 yr old son, and a husband, but I don't think I put myself before them by choosing to revise. I understand your concerns, and I know you will be successful. The current stats for the plication are promising, and hopefully we won't see revisions in the future. Best wishes, and know that you have do what is best for you and your family. I did, and have zero regrets. I won't deny it was stressful, and exhausting, but I don't regret my decision, and do not feel "guilty" for proceeding with my revision. -
Former TLBC Patient (Dr. Yau) Lap-Band Removal ... Questions? Process?
Kico1970 replied to AnneElliot's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi there....did you have to pay for the revision surgery or were you able to get it covered? -
I also had my surgeries (band and then revision to sleeve) done by a very experienced doc in the Dallas metroplex - self pay both times. I wish I hadn't wasted all that money on the band, but the sleeve wasn't available when I first started out. Just glad I was able to make the switch. Being a self-pay you should be able to book your date whenever there's an opening, or pick your date if done far enough in advance. Good luck!
