4 days Post-OP struggles
Michele1/27/20 replied to KBailey2022's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey surgery twin. I had my sleeve done on Monday the 27th also. I don't have any issues with my stomach feeling heavy. Although, I am also struggling with the constant sipping. I'm trying but there are times where I don't want to bother with it either. That being said, I am able to sip my broth and drink my thinned yogurt. I am also struggling with tiredness. I've been taking my Flintstones vitamins daily. I'm still having pain mostly around the incision site where my excess stomach was removed so I just want to sleep my pain away. Good luck to you though. -

Can I eat this post-op?
Puffy-no-more replied to Puffy-no-more's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes on the cornstarch! I only added it for my family after I had taken mine out. Good idea about the Greek yogurt. I will have to try that. I’ve always felt like I was a “decent” cook but I feel like there’s a totally new world with cooking healthy that I have to learn. Thank you for that tip! And I will definitely be careful with spices!! -

Ditch the cornstarch. If you puree a portion, or all of them, they will be creamy. For more creaminess, stir in a spoon of Greek yogurt (nonfat) into each serving. Ditto about the peppers and spices. New tummies can be finicky with spicy food. I had to go to mild after 50 years of being a pepper head. -
I just got back from having an upper GI series. I was surprised to see that my stomach had stretched, the radiologist said it did not look like I had a sleeve surgery but it didn't look as big as I thought a normal stomach should be. Usually a microwavable meal for one will last me for 2 meals. Pre-surgery I could eat 3 bagels now I eat half of one of those very thin bagels so I can't believe the stomach went back to the same size but it has gotten bigger and there are times I do surprise myself and eat more then I should. I crave a frozen yogurt pop and most people would eat one and sometimes I can still eat three. the point I want to make is when I first started having problems with the craving of food in that first year I did not go back to the doctor I felt ashamed and that was the beginning of the problems with the overeating. I also have a fairly large hiatal hernia. I hope the doctor will be doing the bypass to stop the severe reflux as I mentioned before and I wouldn't mind losing 30 pounds. I would be very willing to talk to someone email or even if it can be done on the phone if you're having problems like I am or if you are able to give me support. Because support is one of the most important things to have when you're having these surgeries. Good luck to all of you.

6 weeks out - how many calories are appropriate?
catwoman7 replied to Fat2FabMyWay's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
P.S. there are a lot of other protein-rich foods that aren't as caloric as cashews. Lean meats. Cottage cheese. Greek yogurt. Maybe mix some protein powder into something like sugar free pudding. -
New Year, New Diet... Well more of a return to the old one 😂 I stopped eating yogurt for a while (6+months) but I'm back on it and remembering why i love it so much 💚 #saveme

Today is 4 weeks post RNY surgery for me. - Down 16.8 lbs. I've had a couple of times where my weight has stayed stable for more than 5 days in that 4 weeks (including now). Still watching to see if a pattern emerges and trying to take it in stride (not always successfully). - No issues with liquids at all (yay!). I have been getting between 80 and 100 most days. - Eating up to 4 oz at a time. I haven't tried for more except with greek yogurt (I eat the whole container of the Oikos triple zero which is just over 5 oz). - On soft foods for the last 2 weeks and so far I've tolerated everything I've tried (eggs, Tuna, Ricotta bake, lunchmeat, etc...). I had chicken for the first time today (canned and made into chicken salad) and that went down well. - I can get my protein in but only if I do a couple of shakes (or max a premier out by adding some collagen). - Walking daily up to 1 mile. I go back to work on Thursday (I was VERY fortunate to take a full month off). I also plan on starting back with my rowing machine in addition to the walking. All in all I am extremely happy with how I've healed so far. I'm looking forward to continuing the journey. I have a lot of work ahead of me to get to a healthy weight but I am hopeful.

11 month post op bloat, help!
FluffyChix replied to Sleevedgirl221's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sounds like your microbiome took a big hit with the lentils/rice combo, especially if that's a huge diff from what you've been eating? Things like anti-gas and Gas-x might help, as might walking. But it kinda sounds like a SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth) but I'm not an internet doc nor do I play one here in the forums or on tv. LOL. Why not check in with your doc? I'd maybe in the interim, go to a very bland, low fiber diet for now. Maybe do some yogurt (unsweetened)? -
Pureed Stage Nightmare
FluffyChix replied to kc892020's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told if that happens, it means to go back a step. I think like @Brent701 I'd probably go back a step to thick liquids. I'd try things like kefir then thinned down yogurt (Greek, fat free plain) mixed with bananas and cream or strawberries and cream or peaches and cream Premier Protein. Very delicious, not as sweet, etc. But make it more of a runny kefir thickness yogurt soup. Then maybe do blended cream of chicken using fat free Fairlife Milk. And try those for a few more days. We heal only as quickly as we heal and it sounds like you have a lot of inflammation going on. Water and hydration are KING! Even over protein. Staying well-hydrated is the key to diet progression IMHO. Cuz it makes the inflammation go down and makes food slide through your new tool easier. ((hugs)) Let us know what the doc says! -
December 2019 Sleevers, how are you doing? What’s your stats?
Freedom&Bliss replied to smb123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sienna this is AWESOME. Food truly is an addiction and unlike other addictions that we can give up and never have again, we have to face our food addiction several times a day. Amazing on being off those medications too - that alone is worth it! Try to focus on healthier foods, remember all the work you have done to get this far and if you can, move - even if it's just walking. It helps SO much! If you are on a budget and can't get more protein shakes, yogurt is a great source of protein and not expensive (I love the "Two Good" brand - no fake sugars like sucralose, super thick and tasty, and like 12g protein in 5.3 ounces!) Read labels - milk is a good source of protein - if you can afford a protein powder that is cheaper than the ready-to-drink shakes, even get unflavored so you can add it to anything. Most Vitamin Shoppes have inexpensive protein powders, even online (but stores sometimes have samples so you can try them first) an d if you're tolerating chicken, 1 chicken breast is 43g protein! I can't eat one whole one in one sitting but if you can eat one in one day that's great protein there! I hope this was helpful and best of luck! -
Officially 6 weeks out today and I’m able to return to “regular foods” lol. Not that I have much of an appetite and I get full after I few bites. I had 1/4 of an omelette for breakfast (so good) hope it reheats well. Triple zero Greek yogurt for snack, a 2oz chicken breast for lunch with some roasted cauliflower (didn’t finish but yummy). Got home and my husband bought me a hot pickle (my fave). I haven’t had one since before surgery. I had 2 thin slices...so good. Had leftover chicken breast for dinner with 1/4 baked sweet potato. Although I’m not finishing my plates I’m so excited to be enjoying dinner with my family again! I bought a food scale so I can measure out my meats, more yogurts and protein granola, string cheese, whole grain crackers, mini baby bell cheese and more fairlife protein shakes to make it through my first “normal” week!

You don't have to be keto girlfriend! Nor that restrictive. Just maybe think about for now filling your tum with super FILLING high fiber stuff that isn't calorically dense nor sweet/a bunch of high glycemic carbs that break down to sugar. (i.e. More salads - lots of them! Instead of oatmeal, do a chocolate chia and hemp heart warm pudding with some blueberries (frozen) on them, only 1/2ounce and a dollop of vanilla Greek yogurt, plain sweetened with a drop or two of stevia.) Those sorts of swaps. Right? Instead of popcorn, do pork rinds and a yogurt Ranch dip or yogurt onion dip...that sort of thign.

Discouraged and need advice
FluffyChix replied to Seimmaj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are drinking full sugar versions of these, here is most likely your culprit. Ditch the sugary drinks. Drink as little artificially sweetened drinks as you can. And get your water in. Eat your protein first. You should be on softs now? So do soft dense lean protein first. And after have a bite or two of well cooked low glycemic veg and only a tiny bit of fat. Limit cheese and only do plain Greek nonfat yogurt or 2% cottage cheese and you can mix it with fruit flavored protein powders for sweetness. -
Feeding young family while on a liquid diet and beyond?
BoredFatGirl replied to Synnamin's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My husband has an eating disorder that basically keeps him from eating or even touching vegetables and fruit. In his previous relationship, he did everything (including cooking and packing lunches), so my two step children (8 and 6) never really knew what healthy foods looked like before I came into the picture. Breakfast was always some sugary cereal. Their lunches were made up of primarily a couple pieces of rye bread with butter and lunch meat on it. A typical dinner would be frikadeller (meatballs) and brown sauce. It could have been worse, but still -- that wasn't going to cut it for me. These children are my responsibility now, too, and I won't let my kids grow up like this.. like me. I remember my husband telling me a story about his neighbor trying to help him with his condition by making lasagna (with carrots in it) and having him and the kids try it. The kids were eating it up, but once they saw that their dad couldn't handle it, they stopped eating it too. Roughly 2 years ago is when I came into their lives. I am the parent who takes care of the food, from meal plans to getting it on the table. I started making dishes where the kids could choose at least one healthy thing to go into it, while my husband could eat it plain. They fought with me at first, told me they didn't like x, y, z, but I was persistent. I also started making food that would just normally include vegetables, like chicken stir-fry, or tuna & broccoli casserole, which only had minor nitpicking in response. I started putting mixed vegetables or just a specific vegetable as a side and they were told to eat them first. They do this without any complaints now. I don't even have to ask them to eat it first because I know they will finish it. These days, my daughter begs for me to make asparagus for both dinner and to take to school for her lunches & my son is always picking out fruit in the grocery store. 👍 For breakfast, we've ditched the sugary cereal and have started going with whole-grain, if we don't have time to sit down for a real meal. My husband put sugar in their cereal one morning and received complaints from the kids that it was too sweet for them. On days where we all have our **** together on time, we will usually have eggs, bacon, and fruit, or a whole-grain bagel with low-fat cream cheese and fruit on the side. Lunch boxes rarely come back with anything left in them. Unless we have leftovers that are wanted for lunch, the rye bread remains, but I've added oranges, grapes, apples, carrots, etc. Snacks usually consist low-fat yogurt or whole-grain crackers/pretzels. This was all done while their dad sat at the table and didn't participate in adding vegetables to his diet and sometimes even needed a completely separate meal made for him. It wasn't easy to get the kids to this point, but that felt like it was more because they had formed a habit of not eating properly and didn't want to change it, rather than being worried about what dad was eating. Either way, I think leading by example is a good way to teach children anything. I see so much of myself in these kids that aren't even biologically mine and it's because they mimic almost everything I do. 😅 Even though you won't be on the liquid diet for long, I think you should explain why you are having to eat that way and why they should be eating the way you are presenting food to them. If quick foods are a necessity, I'd recommend some kind of meal prepping once a week so that the kids and you will have something healthy and easy to grab and go with. -

I am really just focusing on getting all my fluids in. I do a lot of crystal light with water. I have been struggling with the protein piece of it. The premier protein shakes make me sick to my stomach. I try to get 1 shake in and make up the rest of the protein with Greek yogurt. As far as exercise I am not doing anything more than walking my dog in our neighborhood. I wouldn’t stress about being stuck I’ve heard that the 3-week stall is very common. -

Rapid weight gain following Gastric Bypass 10 months ago
elcee replied to yesno789's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You say you have to eat sweet and sugary food! Really, why? The thing to realise here is that surgery is only a tool. It doesn’t choose what you put in your mouth and doesn’t make unhealthy choices. You do. You buy the food and you eat it, not your sleeve and not your bypass. The only person that can make this work or not is you. You need to remember why you had these surgeries , what you hoped to achieve and refocus. Go back to basics. Use a small plate, eat protein first then healthy veg. No grazing. If you want something sweet have a small piece of fruit or yogurt with stevia and cinnamon or a cracker with low sugar jam etc. Track your food, including any sweets. Go and see a psychologist, get help. But above all refocus, take responsibility and take charge. You can do this -

I eat from side plates and small tapas bowls. I use splades a lot - I think you call them sporks? Fork spoon combo? I like eating yogurt with a teaspoon too @catwoman7. Sometimes I just dip the spoon in not scoop it. I cut my meat into small pieces before I put it on my plate. Helps to eat slowly & keep each bite small. Snack size ziplock bags (15x10cm - 5x3in) for freezing leftovers & batch cooking - perfect serving size. I eyeball when I’m out - anything that would fit in my cupped palm is about the right amount of food (but I do have smallish hands). -

Starwarsandcupcakes replied to JediMom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I like to make smoothies for breakfast. Either frozen fruit or ice cubes with spinach almond milk and protein powder. For breakfast also a fan of- egg white omelettes, Fat free cottage cheese with sugar free jam, and occasionally oatmeal. Lunch is usually grilled chicken or fish with some kind of vegetable and occasionally potatoes. Dinner is usually the same as lunch but also soup, shredded beef from pot roasts, and more vegetables. My go-to snacks are unsweetened applesauce mixed with unflavored protein powder and cinnamon, Greek yogurt, fat free cottage cheese, and light string cheese. I'm dying for a salad and can’t wait to have cucumbers and celery again!
