I went to a support group and the nutritionist told us that now that we weigh less, we need to increase our exercise. For example, we used to be able to burn 100 calories in 10 min of walking or elliptical. Well now, its only 75 calories because we weigh less. Stay the coarse on healthy eating, but up your intensity on your exercise. Also, this "stall" is common. Although we are not dropping rapid weight, over the coarse of a month, we drop the same. The scale might not move for 2-3 weeks, but then all of a sudden you lose 3-5 lbs. I had my surgery May 28, 2013. First 5 months, 10 lbs a month easy. Now its more like 5-8 lbs. Remember, you still want to lose it slowly. That is the overall most healthy!

I won't have surgery until the 24th. However, my friend that is 15 month's post surgery just had a tummy tuck on January 29th and said it was so worth it. Said the surgery was a whole lot more painful than sleeve was but lost 10 pounds of skin and went down another size. I'm just going to wait and see how I feel before deciding anything. First gotta lose the weight.

Went for 1st fill...but had no fill.
robin32470 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a band over bypass patient. Had surgery 2/15/10. Yesterday 3/18/10 I went to get my first fill. Stood in front of the fluorscopy machine, drank some barium (nasty stuff) watched it run down to my stomach. She sprayed my stomach with freezing spray. stuck that gigantic needle in which thankfully I did not feel a thing. She filled up my band. Then released it all back out. Then she said why isn't it going down any faster than that. I was like huh? LOL She told me to take a deep breathe that did not help. I could see the barium drink in my esophugus and it was releasing into my pouch but very very slowly. So she was saying I had some good restriction and decided not to give me a fill. She said since I am a band over bypass patient there may still be some swelling in there which is casuing the restriction still. Now I have to go back in 2 weeks to try again. I sure the heck hope that nothing is wrong. The Dr. was quite surprised while she had me standing in there going thru this, so when they are surprised that makes me worried..anyone else go thru this type of ordeal ? banded 11/17 only lost 13 lbs
jedivy21 replied to txharley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi folks I was banded on 11/18. My progress has been steady (slow, but steady) and my goal is 1-2 pounds a week. At that rate I can reach my goal by the end of 2011. I've only had 1 fill and don't anticipate getting another until the first week of Feb. I have found that a large part of feeling "full" is truly eyeing your portions and knowing when to stop eating, even if you don't feel full. Then, I wait for about 5-7 minutes and I begin to feel full, even though I don't "think" I will be full based on what I ate. After 10-15 minutes, I'm definitely full. That's all a part of learning to eat slowly, which I am still working on. I rarely feel "restriction" and I've never had to throw up. Mostly because I am so afraid of that happening that I stop eating before I reach the point of being stuffed. The only times I've felt weird and uncomfortable was when I ate too much raw broccoli too fast. That hurt like hades. Folks - we all know this is hard work. It was hard work to walk in the door and say that we were ready for the surgery. It was hard work to have the surgery and survive the recovery. And the hard work will not end there. It continues, and is especially hard in the first several months after surgery - thats when we are "learning" to live with the band. We have to STOP eating the way we did before. We have to eat differently, otherwise the band will not work. We have to exercise! Exercise is not an option when you're trying to lose weight and be healthy. It is a requirement. I do not like it, I never have. But 3x a week I get up at 6 in the morning and I just do it. Because I don't want all the hard work I've put in so far to go to waste. I can't afford it, mentally, emotionally or financially (I don't know about you, but this band has cost me a little change and I had insurance!). YOU CAN DO IT!! Focus on yourself! Imagine all the great clothes you will wear when you get the weight off! -

Sounds like your sugar had dropped at work. If you had not ate anything til around 10, that is 3 hrs, so it was past time for you to eat, if you're like me. I have to eat every 2-3 hrs, especially early out when we can only hold a tiny amt. I know it's probably more difficult for some people at work to be able to take breaks or lunches to have something to eat, but you could take small ziplock bags of peanuts or almonds to snack on until you can get somewhere and have an actual meal. On the cookies, I have no advice except to not dwell on it, what's done is done. Just strive to do better with your choices, and keep better choices very handy so you won't be in a situation where you're hungry and have cookies as an option. I keep peanuts, almonds, pistachios, edamame, or protein bars in my purse at all times. Protein bars are as yummy to me as any candy or cookie anyway, and the ones I get are 20 grams of protein, so can easily also be a meal. If you have a fridge at work, you could also take ready to drink protein shakes or string cheese.

Those Who Had Surgery 10/8 10/9 10/10
Geminidrive replied to sacharliem's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hi all, I had my surgery 10/8/2012, no problems at all, no pain no gas. I feel like I haven't had any surgery at all. I'm down 16lbs weighed on 10/17. I have not weighed myself since but plan to do so 10/31. -
Hey, Thin, good luck with everything. I had to do 10 days of a presurgery diet, and about 2 months of a "pre"pre surgery diet before that. Lost 30 pounds before I was even banded! It's hard to stick to the pre diet, but doing so will help you so much afterward. Your body will be used to less and you won't feel so ill when you can't eat much. I shocked myself by not feeling ill at all (after) and get by just fine. One hint about shopping for the after foods. I bought everything on the list given me, which wasn't a bad idea. However, I still had my pre surgery eyes. I bought big containers of juice, cans and cans of cream Soup. Anything you can get in small amounts will be best with possibly more variety. I am on full liquids and a can of cream soup would last me over a week (1 or 2 oz. at a time). sugar free popsicles was on my list, then after surgery I was told nothing cold, it could make the stomach cramp. As with everything, you can get mixed messages. I was given sample menus, which helped a lot. One week post op and I can honestly say I feel better then I did 2 months ago. I"m sure eating right has a great deal to do with it. Exercise if you can, too. I pushed myself hard in the weeks before, and walked 20 minutes around the house the first day post op and 3 days post op was back on the treadmill. Everyone who took care of me was amazed at how well I felt, and how much I could do on my own. Trust me, that was the first time in my life THAT has ever happened. I, too, "lurked" for weeks before posting anything. I knew the "good, bad and ugly" before I even went for my first informational meeting. Then I didn't post because it just didn't seem real for me. Everyone is so great to share their own experiences. I thought maybe it was time for me to share as well. Glad you chose to, also. By the way, wish I'd been thin in '86. I was on my way up at that time to my all time high this year. I'd have to go back to about '80. I plan on living the second half of my life in a different body-saggy, but lighter.

3 Months today...........
laney replied to BIGBRAND0105's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on your weight loss!!! I will be one month post op this Sunday and I also had very little discomfort after surgery. I followed the Drs plan exactly as I was and had no issues. I now have been on soft foods for 5 days and doing ok. I do know when I eat to fast or had that one bite to much. My stomach lets me know. My start weight was 263. Surgery Day I was 249 today 229. My goal right now is to get under 200 pounds and then I will set up another goal. I just am taking it slow because I have not seen under 200 pounds in over 10 yrs. I wish you all the best in your journey congrats again on the weight loss!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I haven't attended the second one yet but I will on 10/28. I wish I knew..... I attended a seminar at Norton Suburban that Dr. Geller gave. I talked to Dr. Shina's office (also part of Norton Suburban) they said that I had to go to a second seminar. So to answer your question I'm attending the second one because my PCP refered me to Dr. Shina and his office said that I had to attend a daytime seminar as well as the night time one. One good thing I guess is that I see the surgon the same day.

I am so excited! After months of fighting with the insurance company, I got an email from my surgeon saying he has been approved. Now we just need to figure out when (work wise) we can schedule. HW 385 SW 359 CW 322 Sleeved 10/5/16 -

I'm 10 weeks po and haven't had a fill yet for fear of slippage. I'm down 36 lbs and have 30 to go. I haven't quite figured out how the band works. From morning to late afternoon I can't hold much food, maybe a cup at the most, or 1/4 of Peanut butter and jelly sandwich, then at night it feels like I could eat a full meal. I've never tested how much I could eat, but scares me that I don't have band restriction at night. Does it sound like I need a fill?

Supervised Weight Loss DIet/ Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal and Weight Gain
sunny2day posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been required by my insurance to participate in a 3 month supervised weight loss plan prior to submitting a request for weight loss surgery. I weighed in on November 07, 2013 and I have to do my final weigh in on December 19, 2013 prior to my doctor submitting a claim to my insurance, blue cross blue shield federal plan. My question is this, I believe I have gained about 4 pounds since my last weigh in and the whole time I have been on the diet I have lost. I am guessing I did not do as good as I thought throught the holidays. Has anyone ever gained weight in the supervised diet with blue cross blue shield federal and got denied or approved. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. -
Surgical Steri Strips
RestlessMonkey replied to mom23gr8boys's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What you can do is VERY carefully trim away the part that is curling up (if that's feasible for you) I did that because the parts that were stuck seemed to be necessary and I didn't want one accidentally tugged loose by me catching the end on something while I was dressing etc. SO...I carefully trimmed the loose ends. The strips should stay on at least 10 days to 2 weeks. I itched but it was internal/healing, so lotion wouldn't help. You don't want to put lotion on any surgical sites, of course! -
Mum's the word!
doingthisforme replied to wintobethin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow. I initially told my husbsnd and my best friend who is going thru this process also. Then my kids (10 &17).. I started educating my hubby and boys nonstop on it. This allowed them to learn about it, why its so important to me and to keep secret. It has worked. We are all eating better and they are soo supportive. Thats hard with teen boys. Now as far as work- as need to know basis. My boss , assistant, 3 coworers and HR ( thats me). They are all supportive .Now that my surgery is on 7/10 I announced to all staff I'm out but no details on why. There is that stigma of negative comments etc..I want to stay focused and positive. After who cares it is my choice. People smoke by choice and continue. People have plastic surgery by choice, etc. People choose many things in secret...they don't say it... my choice has a physical result.... lack of knowlege is ignorance. When there is ignorance lies confusion. They're just confused about this topic that's all. I chose who to tell on my own decision. But don't do this alone. There is atleast one person to count on. I found a great group here... I luv reading and sharing with you all! -
I am hypothyroid and take Synthroid (100 mcg) daily. I normally take it first thing in the morning and I have been fine after surgery. I was recently given direction to take my Nexxium twice daily (morning and evening). My doctor said I can't take Synthroid with a PPI because it causes problems with absorption. So this morning I take my Nexxium when I wake up and figure I will take my Synthroid about an hour before lunch. By 930 AM I was sweating profusely and felt like I was having a hot flash! The RN who works with me asked if I had taken my Synthroid. I took it at at 10 AM and within 20 minutes the sweating and hot flash was back under control. Since I hadn't thought about it, I figured I would post for the other Hypo's out there after surgery.

well i just wanted to send an update on what happend when i had the my second stricture procedure yesterday. i went in and had my stricture stretched to the maximum 20mm. that's the good news. the bad news is that once he did this he noticed i have a kink in the middle of my stomach from the way it healed after surgery in december 2011. so, if i am still unable to keep my food down it is no longer because of the stricture since that has been stretched to the max it will be because the food hits the kink and and cannot make the bend. i am on 4 more weeks of soft/pureed foods then i go back for my recheck. of course if i am still getting sick then i will have to go back to my origional surgeon i guess to have the kink fixed. please keep postitve thoughts that i will be able to keep my food down and not need to have the surgery to fix the kink. that would be inpatient at the hospital and i really don't want that. the dr. said because of the kink i will always have to eat 6 meals of no more than 4 oz and i will always have to make sure to take VERY small bites so that it will have a better chance of passing the kink. he said i will also have to be very careful with what food i eat to ensure that i can get it chewed enought to pass by the kink. gees if it's not one thing it's another. who would have thought i'd get hit with 2 complications from it. i would still do it all over again just would like to do it without the stricture and kink! i'll keep updating if anything new happens over the next several weeks. but i hope to have an uneventful 4 week of soft/pureed meals. i am so very thankful that i am not hungry or by now i would have gone mad only eating such a limited food choice for almost 19 weeks now. my focus over the next 4 weeks will be fluids, and trying to get my protein in. i don't want to have to have a 4th procedure and i don't want to become any more malnursihed then i already am at this point because they have tossed the phrase iv nutrition around if i cannot get my numbers up from eating over the next few days. sleeve patients cannot be tube fed because we don't have enough stomach to handle that type of feeding so that only leave iv nutrition and it's pretty expensive. so i'm trying real hard to focus on just getting the food to stay down and eat has high protein count and i can handle.

Anxiety Pre op
Noworneverthin replied to itsachipmunk's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm preop and scared too, although I dont have any allergy to antibiotics, except Septra, I am concerned about a leak because it can be life threatning. I'm sure if you were at risk your Dr would Not risk the surgery on you. The risk is minimal and it is imperative that you follow the instructions before and after to a T. My doctor has done 300 a year for the last 10 years with zero leaks and zero deaths. I hope you find comfort in that. You might want to talk to your surgeon and ask what if questions. Nothing is completely safe when it comes to surgery, or even riding in a car. Good luck Sent from my LGMS550 using BariatricPal mobile app -
