Three days post-op - "swallowing" feeling
Julie_JJ posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had a ton of pain, which is great - the worst part is the gas, and I'm managing it. I've urinated, I've had a bowel movement (TMI, right?), everything seems on track. But I can't manage to get in the water and protein I'm supposed to. After a couple sips, I have a tightness under my sternum. I can breathe fine, and it's only marginally uncomfortable, but... is that my band? And how long before it loosens up? Also, I feel like I've got phlegm in my mouth sometimes that needs to be swallowed - what's causing this? I haven't had any nausea since the first day, but I also think I'm maybe playing it *too* safe because I'm scared of vomiting and slippage, and I haven't figured out what little twinges are the band or my stomach, and which ones are related to surgery and my incisions. Help! -
Finally have restriction...but is it too much?

That we have different opinions, different ideas, but I love this support group because we always express these different ideas in such a respectful manner. That being said. I didn't have a preop diet, and because of that I always forget that people who lost 75 lbs might not have lost it since Feb. and I think. Damn it, whats wrong with MY band. But at the same time, Good for them to be able to lose ANYTHING without being banded. Jaime, Crystal, and all my other VV you are doing amazing. I might be a slower loser, but that gives me the oppurtunity to be inspired by all of you. Thank you so much for continuing to come and post, to speak. I love you guys. I gotta stop typing. I want to cry. I must be about to start my peroid. TMI? I don't care. -
I had surgery 6/27 and I was so bored at home that I went in to the office for a 1/2 day on day 5! I have had -0- complications unless you count two days of (way TMI) very loud liquid bowels that had me scared to death to go more than 15 ft from a toilet, lol. That kept me from going in on day 4 for a 1/2 day which I was kinda' planning. Desk job with 2 assistants, plus with the long holiday weekend I knew I could recover. I have no problems getting and keeping my liquids in and am successfully eating pureed and some soft foods (cottage cheese, thin shaved lunch meat) so I think maybe I am an exception to the norm. I was mentally prepared for complications, even to the point of taking out additional short term disability insurance in case of severe complications that would keep me from working for a few months. I scoured the boards and purchased everything I read that sounded helpful: gasX (never used as hospital wouldn't allow me to self-medicate) heating pad (never opened) etc. My motto was prepare for the worse, hope for the best!

Post- Op Day 3- Rashes And Revalations!
sweetsoutherngirl posted a blog entry in sweetsoutherngirl's Blog
Feeling pretty good today. Learning to listen to my body and the cues it gives me. It is getting easier to rest so I can heal.Yesterday was a good day. I was able to pass gas( sorry for the tmi, but when you get to this side you will understand I had 1/2 cup of egg drop soup, one protein shake, and a popsicle. I also had a vitamin water that I sipped on all day. Well actually I have been sipping it for two days. I was so stuffed. Today I added protein powder to my shake for a total of 40 grams of protein there and I am 1/2 way through it. I also broke out in a rash from head to toe. It turns out I am allergic to the pain meds. So no more for me. Lucky enough I really do not need them anymore but it has to work itself out of my system. Im going to try to walk more today, but still the simplest things tire me out. But I am happy to be on this side! -
Spent 1st night in the emergency room
doodleallday replied to volcano lady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was definitely outpatient. Went under arond 1:30pm and left around 7ish because they had to IV-feed me 3 liters of Fluid before I could use the restroom. Eventually, we gave up and I awoke every 2 hours once home to use the restroom. The gas thing I can relate whole-heartedly to! Yesterday it was so painful I would cringe every second, holding my stomach. Luckily, it mostly took care of itself last night when something I'd eaten finally digested itself. Out with that came much of the gas. (Sorry for TMI!) I'm still bloated as all get-out, but I'm sure it'll pass over the next few days. Good luck to you, though!! :3 -
What are people doing to keep constipation at bay? I was in the ER all day yesterday due to a blockage....(I don't recommend it----it's ugly and so is the procedure to get rid of it)....they fixed me, and all is almost good......but I can't help be concerned about recurrences......I drink 40-60 oz and include 1 or 2 premier Protein drinks a day....and being made of whey, which is from dairy, I'm wondering if that's constipating? The ER docs said to stay away from dairy......I'm still only able to eat 2oz at a time....3oz if it's very moist.....so I have depended on those drinks..... So, what are you doing to keep regular? Many thanks (sorry if this was TMI)

To Much Protein

TMI, but too much protein "backs me up" Sorry I know its not the answer you were looking for, just saying, haha. -
Okay, so I'm sure this is TMI. I'm almost a year out, and recently, like in the last month, I've started having some stomach issues. First, I can't poop. I started using Benefibre because I thought that I wasnt' getting enough Fiber or maybe it was the Iron pills. That stuff just makes me bloated and gassy. So, I stopped taking the iron pills. Still can't poop. So, now it's like I can't go unless I take a laxative. I don't know why. Just all of a sudden I can't go to the bathroom. My other problem is I think I've developed a hernia. I blame crunches! I notice when I clinch my stomach, it feels like something in my navel moves up into my stomach. I don't see a buldge or feel one, but I swear I can feel something that feels like it's poking through something. It doesn't really hurt, but it's uncomfortable. The other thing is, I now eat LESS than I did a month ago. Maybe it's from being bloated. But, after 2 or bites of whatever I'm eating I'm full. Not only that. Whenever I drink something, too, it's like it just sits in my stomach, and it takes a long time to drain. In fact, my stomach is back to making those gurggling noises it used it when I first got sleeved. None of this is painful, but it's just drastically different. I haven't done anything differently, so I don't know why these things have changed. I guess when I go at the end of the month I'll find out.

I have no idea. When I was in the hospital. They told me the pain in my chest was the gas coming up. Today, a week later I'm finally passing gas (tmi) and I pooped after almost two weeks. It was hard but thank goodness! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm 4 days post and one incision is still draining. It does not smell bad or look like infection, but I was wondering if the blood thinner shots my doc put me on are causing it. I'm also menstrual (i know TMI) and should have been done days ago. Maybe that's just stress? Should I call the office on Monday or is it nothing? Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

Another December 9th sleever here. Heading into the TMI area here. I feel like I'm in bondage, Left arm has blood pressure and Left hand has IV. Right Finger has oxygen sensor, and Right wrist has 3 hospital bracelets, Nose has oxygen tube in each nostril. Legs have cuffs to prevent blood clots. Stomach has the bandages and I have a drain. Got my pain pump, and call button, and other room controls. Have my laptop and phone plugged in. Whew. And I have to pee... a lot,so everytime I have to go, I have to get unhooked from it all. I also Nurse game me omeprazole thru IV and that's generated lots of burping. Able to have ice chips but if I over indulge I get nauseous. Over indulge being about 15 ice chips. And I'm HUNGRY. That scares me, thought the hunger would be gone. Oh yeah, my scalp is itchy and dry. On the plus side my little cheats (the chicken and carrots in my "broth". The few ounces of turkey with a tablespoon each of potato, stuffing, squash and cranberry sauce. The 1/2 scrambled egg at lunch the day before surgery..Nurse just came in more later.

hopingtolose2013 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 6 days out. I don t understand why I can have processed cream of whatever and broth and yogurt but you can't have fresh blended up fruit or eggs. I need something more than soup. I know its tmi but my belly can tell there is no substance coming in...so I'm having trouble with diarrhea...which doesn't help my fluids! I want an egg or some refried beans and my nut said no! -

So I told a white lie...
Marie from Michigan replied to imawhodat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also told most of my work colleagues that I was having surgery to repair a hernia (which was true). I had been having severe stomach issues related to the hernia in the weeks prior to surgery (TMI Alert - I was leaving meetings to vomit) so this explanation was readily accepted. Only a few people (including my direct supervisor) knew about the WLS. Since I have lost a considerable amount of weight some people might have put the two things together by now. Who knows! -

I always thought a slider food was something that slid right through you. In one side and out the other quickly, little digestion. Maybe that was TMI =p -
I love how they hold the jiggle too. But in texas when the weather gets hot, they make my butt sweat!! I know tmi but I cannot wait to dump them too!!

This is a bit of a TMI post so I apologize in advance! Last Monday I came down with either the stomach flu/food poisoning. I threw up yellow bitter stuff Monday and part of Tuesday then I felt better although a bit dehydrated. I stayed on the BRAT diet and took Zofran just in case and felt better but come on Thursday I once again felt queasy..however to prevent throwing up I took Zofran. Friday night I once again started stowing up so I took myself to Urgent Care and was given Zofran and told it wasn't serious. I awoke a little while ago and threw up yellow bitter stuff once again. So my question is what would you all do? Is this serious enough to run to the ER or should I should wait and call my PCP tomorrow morning?

Dehydration? I can't keep my liquids down. D:
Allieg8tor posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm five days out of surgery, and I'm kind of having some issues. Well, I feel fine and everything, really, I do, but I've had a few issues with being able to drink anything at all really. I sip Water all day, but can never get down more than maybe one or two bottles in a 24 hour period, and I'm suppose to have 6 oz. of liquid 6 times a day for meals, but I can usually only manage two of them. I'm also NEVER hungry. Not at all. I only try the two meals so I can at least make sure I have some nutrition in me. They settle like a lead balloon in my stomach. I think that, maybe, I just swelled a little more than expected, but it is starting to worry me. The past three days, when I finally was able to go to the bathroom, I've only urinated once a day (zero bowel movements since surgery) and it's a pretty dark color, so I'm worried I'm getting really dehydrated. Sorry if that's a bit TMI, but I just need a bit of help keeping liquids down. I'm calling my doctor tomorrow, to see what he says, but I wondered if you guys had any ideas? Maybe I should try less Fluid more times than six times a day? Any advice and prayers would help, thanks! Edit: Also, I haven't thrown up or anything like that, I just constantly feel so full, like I've eaten a huge meal, even though I haven't really eaten anything, you know? -
:confused:This is a TMI subject, so please forgive me. I had surgery 3 days ago and since being home haven't had a bowel movement. It wouldn't be a problem, but the urge is there and so was the substance, but no production. I had not had a bowel movement since before surgery, so I was due. I called my dr and he asked me to take the max dose of Miralax and if no production a teaspoon of mineral oil the next morning. The Miralax worked- per say....it gave me diarrhea. =( Literally like explosive type (once again I'm sorry). I'm consuming as much liquids as I can and I haven't taken any of the pain meds since I left the hospital. Not that I'm trying to be brave, but the pain from the actual surgery isn't a bad as the gas and built up BM. I walk serveral times a day, in and out of my home, but I still have this feeling of abdominal fullness. I have the gurlgling sounds in my tummy like things are awake, but should I have had a normal passage and not diarrhea? Also, it's not easy to take those really deep breaths- is this "normal"? :crying:Please help, any contribitions are appreciated. Oh and by the way I was banded on Feb 26, 2010. Thanks everyone~

Struggling to get 200 calories a day now :/
endless80 replied to jdmama911's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh P.S. this may be TMI but after about 3-4 days you will have the most productive, amazing BM's ever. I know that is an issue for some of us. -
Got sleeved Friday and so far so good. Friday was pretty hard but that was because of being nauseated. Today I am in a little bit of a heart burn/gas pain but the gas x helps. What I thought was gas turned out to be unfortunately tar like #2. (tmi) I know but its the truth. I hope everyday things get better. Now to rest, relax, and start to get back to being me. Good luck everyone...

Im having no problem getting liquids down, any consistency, any temp, and I'm just curious how you can tell when your ready to move into puréed. Coughing and dry heaving we're EXTREMELY painful in the hospital, so I want to avoid vomiting at all costs. Also, I know this is TMI, but how long before people had a bowel movement? I'm not surprised that I haven't had one since there isn't much in me, but I don't want to go too long without one.
