Constipation and taking miralax with no movement
kristy3k replied to Jenny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A struggle I have even now. I think it must be all the protein we use. I was drinking smooth tea every other day... now I take a stool softener every other day... whatever comes out of me is like cement... yuck and tmi to some I know.... -
I had the Mirena put in a couple months before my surgery, and I bled like crazy too, mine never was in the right place, and it was very uncomfortable, especially during sex(tmi, sorry). I had it taken out a couple months ago, and so glad I did, I bled for a couple of weeks, but I am regular again, and no more painful sex. Good luck with it!

Constipation During Liquid Diet
micci_micci33 replied to CurlyV's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG! I experienced the same thing this morning. It was the worst pain I have ever felt. I thought I was going to faint on the toilet. I’m 10 days post-op and I have been taking stool softener every night. Anyone else have any suggestions? I’m drinking the smooth move tea as I type this.. I’ve also increased my water intake and have been consuming 2 premier shakes everyday since surgery. Please help!!!! TMI, but my rectum still hurts so bad :( -
Post Op Questions!
Jepegurl replied to BrittanyRose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just swallowed my pills whole but they were about the size of an m&m. Post op day 2 was my worst pain day but I wasn't farting (TMI sorry) and I was miserable. My pain medicine was making my bowel issue worse do I stopped it. My doc told me to try aleve for a few days instead. I walked some. I'd rest for a few hours but tried to walk for 5-10 minute intervals around the house or down the street as much as I could. I was dizzy. I didn't keep track of my water intake but if I didn't pee every few hours I knew I needed to try to drink more. I understand you being hesitant to drink, not yet knowing your limits. Good luck to you! -
Okay, this may be a little TMI for some, so here's the warning: DO NOT READ IF YOU ARE SENSITIVE, OR GET OFFENDED, OR WHINE A BUNCH. We're adults, sex is a normal part of our lives, and this is just my own personal experience. Sex post weight loss is pretty fabulous. Positions obviously now have a new meaning bc they are easier to get into. Also, I felt more at ease with my husband even though that man made love to me regardless of my fat. He never once mentioned my weight, my size, my inability to get into freaky, fun positions, he never once complained nor mentioned anything negative about our sex life pre-op. I will be 100% honest with you and everyone else here. Now that I've lost all my weight, having sex with my naturally thin, lean, muscular husband can be somewhat challenging. My huge boobs that being fat gave me are now just skin and little bit of breast tissue. I lay back, they fall over to my underarm area. Therefore, causing major sternum bumping in missionary position. This hasn't posed any problems perse but it's not always comfortable. I still have a little tummy fat roll that likes to make these "not so" cute noises, that took some time to getting used to, and for me to not be embarrassed when it did happen. Also, my butt seems to have disappeared completely therefore I'm quite boney in the rear area. Hip bones are torture devices, but now that I can manipulate my body with ease, it's not so bad. Overall, sex is pretty amazing. I feel closer to my husband, I'm not hiding under the sheets, I'm demanding the lights be turned off, it's very enjoyable even if some adjustments have to be made to avoid injury. It's a new world. I could give more specifics, but I'll refrain because it could be too graphic for some. If you want any other specifics, or have any questions, please feel free to contact me via the Private message system. I will say this, my private parts lost weight as well. Things are boney in that area, it looks different, it's not something that I focused on when I was fat. Because, well, I couldn't see all that well without the assistance of a mirror. But, my husband has even commented on how it has changed. It's not disgusting or gross, it's a good change, and it's kind of cool to be honest.

Questions about surgery
Margie122 replied to excitedforweightloss's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hair - depending upon surgery YES you may have hair loss. More hair loss with gastric bypass, less with the sleeve. I lost some hair, but it's regrowing and I never had a bald spot. I had the sleeve. I did not have drainage tubes. I don't think most people do...but ask the surgeon. I had some dry heaves and nausea post-surgery but I think mine was an adverse reaction to the type of anesthesia they used. I was fine after a few days. As for gas pain - there is some gas left in your body after you have the surgery and walking around and moving gets it out. You can burp and/or fart (sorry if TMI!) but it will make you feel better to MOVE MOVE MOVE. The benefits of the surgery far outweigh a little hair loss, the possible inconvenience of drains, or gas. Ask questions of your surgical team! What surgery are you having? GOOD LUCK! -
I'm on day 5 and still having issues with diarrhea. However, I'm sure once I'm eating "real" food things will improve. For those of you veterans, once things were working normally how frequently did you have a BM? I have ulcerative colitis so I tend to be VERY aware of what my gastrointestinal tract is doing.

I stalled about 2 weeks out, coincided with my period starting (sorry if TMI!). I stalled for about a week and then noticed some movement on the scale this morning. I should also take the once-a-week scale advice but I haven't so far. There are lots of posts on here about stalls, all the veterans can reassure you that they all hit stalls and their weight did come off. Hang in there!

TMI - Forgive me...Bowel Movement
RammerJammer posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was on Monday. Since then I've had two bowel movements on Tuesday due to medicine from my surgeon but nothing sense. I have been adding MiraLAX to almost everything the past two days but no luck. No gas, no movement, nothing. Is this normal or how long should I let this go? Thanks. -
I take a GNC Solotron chewable multi-Vitamin twice daily. These are by far the best multi-vitamin I have been able to find for my needs. Plus, they taste yummy, and I don't have to swallow a horse pill. They contain bioavailable Iron which is a necessity for me since I still have all my reproductive organs, and have menstrual cycles. Sorry if that's TMI. Anyways, I take 2 of the multi-Vitamins daily (morning and evening), and I take 1 sublingual 2500 mcg B12.

Simply Amazing! -12lbs In 2 Days! 2 Months PO -59lbs
kabeerah posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Subhanallah (Glory be to God),I don't know where to start! I guess i'll start with the bad news, masha'Allah (it is what God has decreed). First, I did not get any excercise in for a week and just started back two days ago. Second, I think I have irratated my esophagus. I do not have a fill, have never pb'd or slimed but I have been feeling swollen, tight, and have a sore ichy throat. Last week we were out of town all day and I had a granola bar....SUSPECT #1! Then the next day I tried some Musli Mix High Fiber Cereal...SUSPECT #2! I supose a grain could have got stuck. I recall having the popcorn kernal feeling, and trying to cough it out slightly. Third, and this really isn't so bad but it leads up to my good news, I 'only' lost one pound in my 9th week out. The one pound wasn't so bad considering that I had not excercised all that week, ate three pieces of KFC, and that I played taste tester for my friend's new Bakery Home Business. I promised her before the band and she said she felt bad asking me but I told her that I would do it because I wasn't really dieting anyway. I really didn't eat much. She gave me itty bitty pieces of several things....NONE OF THEM SET OFF CRAVINGS!!!! I was shocked. If that were me on Atkins it would have set off either a one week binge or I would have quit all together. The Good News! I started back walking two days ago! I have been on liquids for two days in hope that it will relieve my irratated esophagus. My weigh in day is on wedsnesdays, so I had no intention of weighing in today (well not officially). Here goes TMI, but last night all the liquids that went in one end came out the other...it seemed non-stop. I thought that had to account for something! I was hoping it was the three pounds I wanted to lose last week to make it a nice 50lbs lost in two months. I was 230 the last time I checked. When I got on the scale this morning before my morning walk, before eating or drinking anything, and after relieving myself...I was pleasantly surprised to see that I was weighing in at 218!!!! I couldn't believe my eyes. I checked to make sure the scale was properly balanced, I woke my daughter up to put her on it to make sure it was working (lent it to my neighbors last night, who have a track record of BREAKING EVERYTHING they borrow!), I got on and off to make sure I was seeing it correctly..it kept saying the samething...218!!! 218!!! 218!!! Allahu Akbar (God is The Greatest)!!!That makes me down 59 lbs in a little over 2 months!!! I like totally skipped the 220's!!! Masha'Allah. It is so amazing because last night I planned to updated my profile today, after I had weighed my 4 year old and realised that not only had I lost the weight of my 30lb one year old son, but that I also lost the weight of my 40lbs 4 year old. I was going to set a mini goal to lose the weight of my 55lbs 6 year old and then this morning I realised that I had!!! Almost two years ago I started Atkins at 247lbs. In three months I was down to 217lbs. I am one pound away from that. I bought clothes then that were really nice but gave them all away to charity a few months ago because I could not foresee being that size again and it was taking up unneccesary space. Now all I have in my closet are my 'moo moo's'. I don't plan on doing any shopping any time son because I am still not a size that I want to actually wear nice clothes in yet. I will stick with my comfortable moo moo's for the time being. We go on vacation in August, insha'Allah (God Willing). Perhaps by then I will be a size that I will feel more comfortable buying new clothes in. I thank Allah for making this all possible. I thank the rulers of this country for having free to minimum cost medical care. I thank my surgeon and his wonderful surgical team for giving me excellant care. I thank my husband for supporting me and paying for this surgury and I thank all my fellow bandsters on these forums for being there for me and other people who had or are considering wls. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -
I started my journey weighing 246 before surgery, I'm 5'7. My surgery was April 25th & I went to see my doctors again yesterday & they told me that I have lost wonderfully so far. Yesterday I weighed in at 211lbs. I'm almost 5 weeks out. The docs had nothing but nice things to say about how great of a job I'm doing & that I'm healing so freaking fast. But I know I should be very excited but I don't know what's wrong with me. This weight loss is something that I've been praying for for a very long time. I've always been good at loosing weight but not keeping it off. My body has changed so much within this past month. I'm down to a size 12/14. But I just can't seem to grasp it yet & celebrate my success. I'm not claiming depression, not at all but I just don't know what's going on with me right now! I should be ecstatic but I'm just ok right now. I know this is a tmi to some but I'm hoping it's just because of that time of the month and hopefully this feeling will past very soon!!!!

There is a rec center near me that offers a pretty good variety of Water classes that I am planning to try. I'm only 3 weeks post op so I have to wait a bit more. Funny...that is where I lose first too. Probably TMI but my bras are not getting filled out, so I have a lot of bumpy fabric under my shirts. Although my son (8), held my hand the other day and said..."Wow...your fingers are so skinny. And they look skinny...that's kind of creepy". I am not horribly opposed to losing some up top but fingers??? That wasn't exactly on the top of my list of problem areas Keep up the exercise...good work.

What can't you eat after you are banded?
kiz replied to SumSum's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been banded for a year, and have what I consider perfect restriction. The only foods I always stay away from are stingy veggies (ex. celery, asparagus stalks). I can eat pizza, Pasta, lean steak, bread, popcorn, shrimp to name a few items people often think will be off the menu once they reach good restriction. I only eat 1/2 cup meals, so I'm not eating large amounts of any food. I also don't chew much more than normal, but I am cautious when something doesn't chew up well, (TMI alert, I've slyly - at least I hope - spit out a piece of steak into my napkin on occasion when it doesn't chew up well), and while I take smaller bites than I used to, they're not baby bites. I refer to them as ladylike bites..lol With this level of restriction, I can pretty much eat anything I want, but 1/2 cup meals keep me satisfied for several hours..generally 4+. I also can't put milk on my Cereal. I only tried it once, and it went down very painfully. I eat 1/2 cup dry Khashi w/ Protein & Fiber every day..but dry. -
My doctor is upset with me. My bloodwork results are pretty good. My cholesterol was a little high because I haven't been eating right. But I haven't been taking my Caltrate Petites like I am supposed to. They make me terribly constipated. Sorry for the TMI but I really need some suggestions so I can take this supplement without the side effects. Anyone?

Wow - thank you so much for replying to my post! I had the Scopanaro BPD surgery at Goleta Valley Hospital in CALIF - done by Dr Holian, and was actually #86 to have that surgery! Dr Holian and his nurse, Trish, were life savers in those early days as it was a guessing game on much of what we were supposed to do post surgery. Much of what is done today was gleaned from those days of hit and miss post op care. I even was the 2nd (or 3rd?) person to get pregnant have give birth after having BPD surgery. After both Dr. Holian & Trish passed away I lost the much needed support and tried time and time again to find medical, or naturopathic doctors that could help me. I did see Dr. Ara Keshishian and ironically just reached out via email again to him today (we no longer live in CA). He no longer takes insurance, so I may try some of your other great suggestions. It would be so awesome to have a support group to toss ideas around. I don't have to have someone that lives in CO -- but that would be an extra perk! I appreciate you taking the time to answer my post. Right now I have an immediate need to find someone to address my painful issues - so will reach out to those you have suggested and always have Dr. K to fall back on if no one else can take me or takes my insurance. Hope this wasn't too much TMI. thanks again.....

There's really no way to tell. I kind of thought within an hour or two something wou'dve happened so I called my pharmacist and asked and he said "usually within a few hours" and I asked him to define a few (nicely) and he said "Oh maybe 1, but sometimes 8 or 10." Doing the math I think it took me about 14 hours. There was one exception of a tiny "spurt" (felt like it was going to be more) that was kind of like raw magnesium citrate, sorry if that's TMI, stinky as all get out. So I thought ok, game on... that was about 7pm, but nothing else happened.

I’m on the Dartmouth diet to prep for surgery per order of my surgeon. The basic break down is cream of wheat, soup, protein shakes and jello/pudding. I’m on day four now and I’m just getting progressively more sick. TMI- but nauseous, gagging when eating, diarrhea, exhausted and cloudy. I’m not sure what I should do? My surgery is Thursday 8/29/19 so I have 3 more full days of this left. I’m open to experiences and suggestions.

What do I tell people?

Absolutely brilliant!!! Nobody, NOBODY wants TMI - this is a great answer!!! -
WARNING: Might be TMI for some...I am about 14 weeks out from surgery and yesterday morning I woke up to intense cramping in my abdomen and diarrhea. I am usually constipated and only go about every two weeks. This cramping has continued now for more than 24 hours. I was up all night last night every hour on the hour with this intense cramping. I have no more stool left so nothing comes out, just horrible cold sweat cramps coming every minute or so. It felt like labor but it was in my intestines. I feel weak and tired now and my tummy still hurts and cramps but not as intense. Its in my lower abdomen. Has anyone had this happen? I didnt change my diet at all. I eat Talapia for supper most nights as I did the night this began. Any suggestions on what to do? Sorry if this is TMI for some.

Almost 5 weeks out and feeling constantly nauseous
iliana00000 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I started on soft foods... and ever since I have been so nauseous like morning sickness lasting all day. TMI after 3 months finally got my period. My body just feels terrible overall feeling weak, so emotional, and tired. I am trying to be active but when I walk and such my heart starts to race like crazy. Idk if it is just me everyone I know seems to be doing fine post-surgery, but I've been struggling bad. I don't even care about losing weight at this point I just want to feel better. Even drinking water is hard, its like I am regressing rather than progressing. anyone else experience this? -
I haven't notices my eyelashs, but have noticed more pubic hairs! Sorry for TMI. My hair is also a couple inches long now, the new growth that is.

Hey kids..... Momma's home!!!
tripletmomma2000 replied to tripletmomma2000's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Today is Monday, and I'm feeling great!! Finally pooped this morning (I know... I know... TMI!) I've been taking 2 TBS of Milk of Mag each morning, so I guess it finally kicked in! The liquid vicodin is every 4 hours/7 days. I'm still taking it, though I doubt I need it. Why question authority (hee hee)?? It's the only narcotic that I've ever been able to tolerate, so my doctors were happy to prescribe one that wasn't going to make me sick. Over the years, with c-sections and stuff, I've taken it all... Morphine, Demerol, Percocet, etc. They all make me vomit. It was actually my dentist that found that Vicodin was the one for me! I'm up and running.... not doing any lifting, or anything strenuous, but I'm back to work (I work part time from home.... depending on how much work I have that week, I can work 10-90 hours in a week... hardly part-time... but that's generally during Oct-January) Feeling great, and looking forward to getting a fill in this band of mine!! TTYS! Karen
