  1. I definitely do have 6 cc's in my 10 cc band, was done on surgery day. This practice of surgeons starting doing this during surgery this past summer. I found out the exact amount when I spoke to the nutritionist about 10+ days ago.

    reflux and ulcer issues

I just had an endoscopy today. Thought it would be a breeze (like the ones I've had before) but they did biopsies and I was in tons of pain and sick most of the day. I remember he said there was some scaring. Then, went for upper GI. I go back to the doc on Monday afternoon. I'm a little nervous. I was supposed to have a fill on Thursday but he sounded like that wasn't going to happen. All sorts of scenarios are going through my head. Especially since the office said that he normally doesn't see people for 7-10 days after the procedure. He definitely wanted to see me next week. Oh well, need to stop thinking about it because worrying will make more stomach acid and that's the last thing I need.

    Band Size

Lets try and ask this without sounding stupid - I know there are different size bands. I have a 10-12 cc band and I get my first fill on 12/29. Doctor said he fills 3 cc's first time and sees how I do. Besides it being a larger band then others, is there an advantage or disadvantage in the sizes....Is this making any sense? Thanks for your help. Lana

MAY SLEEVERS - HOW ARE YOU ALL DOING?

I was sleeved on May 6th. Down 62 pounds total as of yesterday. I am down in sizes from a tight size 16 to a 10/12. I need to do some clothes shopping. I have on a pair of size 14 jeans right now that look downright silly.
  5. I think I am eating about 1/2-3/4 cup of food at a meal. Is that to much?

  8. Hello, this is my first time posting but I have been lurking fir quite some time. I am 29 days post op and I am EXTREMELY dissapointed. I have followed my Drs orders to the tee. I have gotten in my 64 oz of Water and my 70 grams of Protein daily (1 Premier Protein and the rest from food). I am very particular about what I eat and I always choose lean Proteins and no bad carbs or sugar. I am allowed to eat about 550 calories a day and I have use MYFITNESSPAL to make sure I meet that. The only thing I have been unable to do is walk much. I have NO energy. When I grocery shop, I am usually about to pass out with dizziness at the checkout counter. Here's my dilemma. I have only lost 13 lbs . I know we are all different and lose at different rates, but I have lost more weight than this on every program I have ever been on. I don't regret having the surgery, but I am certainly feeling like I may be the one anomaly that will fail at this process. I have read many stall posts and i find my case to be different than most in that I lost all my weight within 10 days of surgery. That means I have been on a 19 day stall that started basically one week after surgery. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Did things ever turn around you? Does 550 calories sound low to you? I've spoken to both my Dr and my Nutritionist and they both agree my weight loss has been low. I am almost in tears here, any input would be greatly appreciated.

uhhhh, have you ever gone back to your lapband doctor for a fill? Most of my friends who had surgery only went back to their doctor once for a fill and to this date, have not lost weight and they are wondering why... I had myself banded on January 07 and already reached my goal weight, no exercise, just purely following Doctors orders, getting myself filled once every two months. My 10 cc band is at 9 cc filled. Believe me, when you get filled, and hit your sweet spot, you don't have the time and energy for exercise...
  10. How are you? Ya know, a person can't be perfect on the PRE op, if we could we wouldn't need the surgery. Once you have the surgery you hopefully will not turn to food during those emotional times. I use to turn to food at the drop of any stress/conflict in my life. The reason I don't turn to food post surgery is because something has happened in me that makes me feel like I am "divorced" from food. There are so many rules, ie: can't drink for 30 min after eating, chew, chew, chew. I still get a little nausea at 10 weeks post op but I am glad cause it makes me not want to eat. I think I get nausea because I eat too fast, I am struggling, how can a person make 4oz of food last 20-30 minutes??? Once you get this surgery everything will change, and since you know you eat emotionally support groups are important for us to reduce this component for our long term success. Hang in there

    Mixed emotions about first fill!

Hi All! I got my fill yesterday too! All went well. I also got 2 cc! Now I have a total of 3 cc (apparently I already had 1 cc). They tried 3 cc's first, but after doing the Water test (sitting up and drinking water), it was too much and they backed out 1 cc. After that, the water went down fine! My doctor's office has the nurse and the PA do the fills. They are very good and use ultrasound to find the port, mark the spot, then used a cold spray to the skin before inserting the needle. The most uncomfortable part was the PA pushing around trying to find the spot (my port is slightly tilted, thanks to a ripped stitch the 2nd weekd postop). It was uncomfortable, but not painful. The whole thing took less then 10 minutes and went great. I am on liquids for 24 hours, then back to foods gradually. I can definitely feel restriction though...my Protein shake went down slowly this morning! :lurk5: So, being nervous was for nothing!! Good luck to you all and let's keep up with each other!! :hurray::hurray::beer_yum::hurray::biggrin:
  12. Hi Sue, my name is Kathy and I live in Sacramento, CA. I had my band surgery on election day, 11/4/08. I'm 52 and I, too, think about it notworking for me and failing once again. I think that's entirely natural. I've lost 15 pounds since surgery and I'm a little disappointed, yet I haven't really followed my dietary suggestions all that well. (Xmas and all). I think you're having you're surgery at a good time to start with the new year. Don't be afraid of the surgery. Now, I know every doctor is different, but it really was not bad. I was anxious, but not overly so. I checked in about 10:30 a.m., talked to docs, went into surgery about 12, and I was home by 2:30. I live about 30 minutes from hospital. I've never had children, still have my tonsils, appendix, gall bladder,so I really don't have any pain to compare it to. But it didn't hurt. I can't say I was inpain. It was muscle soreness, especially at port site. That's the biggest incision they make. It's like you did a thousand sit ups, that kind of muscle pain. They gave me liquid tylenol as needed. Only time I got nauseous was when I took full dose of medicine. That was the last time I took it. I did fine with tylenol from then on. I was off work from Tuesday (surgery day) and went back to work on Monday. Depends on what you do for a living, as to when you go back to work. I was glad I was off the four days I was. I too only knew one person who had had the surgery. She was a much better resource for me than your friend sounds like. I'm sure everybody's experience is somewhat different, but that's been mine. Surgery is nothing to be afraid of, and I consider myself a real wuss. I had my first fill on 12/23/08, and that too, wasnot bad. It made for a real challenge, whatwith allof the Xmas food around. But I'mback to Sac tomorrow, (I'mvisiting family in Northern California), and back to work on Monday. And I'm determined to get back into it. Good luck with your surgery. Don't be scared. You'll do fine. So sorry to hear your son was KIA in Iraq. I can't begin to imagine what you and your family are going through. I'm sure you're very proud of him. Again, sorry for your loss. Kathy

    Waiting For My Iv

I am drinking isopure(gnc) not so good but 20 oz has 40gm of protein. I am walking with my kiddos and treating myself to a popsicle everynight after the walk and a 1/4 cup of ckn broth 2x a day n jello when I need it. Im down only 12lbs as of 10 mins ago and I guess im considered day f or 6 p/o?
  14. I feel the same way! I was banded 12/12 and I'm really getting hungry- frustrated with the mushies and thinking about eating again. I don't want to gain back any of the weight I lost; 10 pounds in the last three weeks and twenty before that... I really felt like I was cruising right along and now, just feel stagnant and hungry. But I know this will take time and I am not a patient person and like results, although I am trying to be patient! None of the mushies "turn me on" either. I am looking forward to my fill on January 24! Until then, maybe it'll get better when I go to solids on January 8! I know how to diet on solids; it's these mushies that confound me! Thanks for the support everyone! kp 246/224/217/140
  15. I understand what you're saying- and nothing anyone can say here is going to change the decision I've made to follow through with this. I KNOW I can't go back to where I was. I know this. It's just disheartening to hear from your surgeon that although you're removing half your stomach, you "might not lose a lot of weight". How is that even an option to NOT lose weight?! My fear is that since I'm a revision, I won't be successful as if I was a WLS virgin. I've gained weight. None of my clothes fit me. I'm back on BP meds. I KNOW what needs to be done, and I'm doing it on 2/19. I guess I'm just looking for those success stories from other successful banders who have gone on to be successful sleevers.

    Too Many Fills/Too Soon

Hey! I had my surgery on 10/12 too!! My first fill was about 6 weeks ago and it was 2cc in a 4cc band. He said my stomach is small (of course, my stomach is small...BUT nothing else) and it may take more than others. I will be getting another fill again on Monday. I anticipate probably .5cc, I get restriction on dry food like DRY DRY meat and bread. Other than that I could eat a horse....right now the band is not helping to limit my intake (by sending those full signals) so I'm assuming it's still pretty open.

    Off the wagon.

whether its a holiday or a reg day....eating is eating.... nothing wrong with eating....its a good thing..but def make good choices and use the bands guidance for eating too much...but def depend on yourself to not overeat your allotted amount..one (bad?) meal or two wont make you gain 10 pounds nor will eating one or two (good?) meals make you lose 10 pounds..its a process.. day in and day out eating... dont set yourself out by citing (holiday eating) you can control yourself....you already are by losing weight...GREAT GREAT job
  19. I am 10 months post-op and I got the ok to get pregnant. I am so nervous about this working and I really need someone to talm to about this. I started clomid 2/4. I had 2 ultrasounds done on the 2nd u/s they found 4 large follicles on the left and 5 on the right. I did my trigger shot 2/16 and believe I ovulated 2/15. I am now on my 2ww. I feel real good about it and I just feel in my heart and soul that it worked! I have never been pregnant before so the wait is driving me crazy. One of the reason I has the surgery was to get pregnant! Has anyone gone thru this and fertility treatments not work or was it easy for u to get pregnant with fertility meds after surgery? Im going crazy I want this so bad!!!!
  20. Hi Myellen-- I had my surgery November 13th of last year, and I have lost about 105 lbs. since starting the pre-op diet a week prior to surgery. From talking to my Dr. and other people who have had the surgery, I don't necessarily think my results are typical, but I totally 100% agree with Sue. Exercise is very much the key--I work out 4 days a week for about an hour and a half. It's definitely possible to lose your goal of 112 lbs. I don't think I'm necessarily going to hit my goal by my anniversary as I had more to lose than that, but I should be pretty darn close. I'm a heck of a lot closer than I was 10 months ago--and I have absolutely no regrets. It's the best thing I've ever done for myself. Congratulations on your weight loss--keep up the great work!! :smile2:

    Using your gym membership

I have gone to different gyms for over 10 years - college gyms, commercial gyms like Bally's, and the YMCA. I find there are people of all sizes, shapes, etc. at all of them. You may find a time when the place is not too busy when you may feel more comfortable. I have found the Y to be the most friendly place I have ever been.

    Newbie

Welcome Mom! You'll do great, I'm sure! It took me a little time to adjust to the preop diet, just continued to remind my self how important it was. My surgeon told my husband that my liver was small and looked great! I am now 10 days out, no complications and doing very well. The veterans here were/are correct with the advice of, "sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk". My current diet stage is full liquids and I find I feel better if I take a little walk, just after eating. Best wishes to you! I hope that you have an uneventful surgery, tolerable discomfort and a speedy recovery. Check back in and let us know how you are. ~Jane

    Day 9

I joined a gym and hit the treadmill for 35 minutes tonight...even broke a sweat and everything! :clap2: Feel so much better now than I did when I got off work. Other improvements are that I have just about weaned off of caffeine entirely. I used to drink 4-5 cups of coffee and 1-2 glasses of iced tea/day. Even the smallest amount has been upsetting my tummy this week and I found that I really just preferred plain old water. Once I get completely off, I will try my best to stay off. It just makes me hungrier. Now that I am past most of the pain and almost past most of the fatigue, I am really, really getting pumped about all of this....the 10# drop doesn't hurt either. This is looking like it's going to be a very, very good year. DH came to me this evening after work, when I was VERY tired, and asked what he could do to support me. I said, "Unload the dishwasher." He laughed and later watched me unload it. 10 minutes after that he was out for his poker game. I went to the gym. :ermm I mean, why did he bother asking? I was serious when I said that....all I really needed at that moment was a little help around the house. Pretty disappointing. He did say that he can already tell in my face that I've lost weight. Cool. So can I. Activity 35 mins on treadmill @ 2.8 mph Nutrition Total: 869 Fat:55 496 58% Carbs:35 111 13% Fiber:7 0 0% Protein:60 241 28%
