Stall or I am done loosing?

I am wondering the same thing. I am 7 months post op and have hovered around 295 pounds for about 5 weeks. I am down 98 pounds total. I hope it is just a stall because I would like to see another 10 pound loss.
  2. So many great suggestions! For the hospital, I absolutely agree with the very long phone charging cord, 10 feet is best. If you can get a folding squatty potty, that might help with constipation. I also did not like feeling like a patient, so as soon as they let me get out of my gown 24 hours postop, I wore shorts and a T-shirt the rest of the hospital stay. I agree with the timer, I use my cell phone timer. I also agree with the shakes. Have a few on hand, different brands, but do not stock pile. After a few weeks, it has been so helpful to have small microwavable dishes when I pack my lunch. They are actually Glass containers with snap on lids, that are meant for homemade baby food. They are around 5 ounces each, and perfectly hold my lunch that I pre-portion each Sunday. Also go in microwave/dishwasher. I like to feel that I am still fitting in, so I use a bread and butter plate at each meal, along with a smaller fork. I also use one of my regular kitchen glasses, and measured how high 8 ounces of liquid goes to. Good luck!
  3. Surgery is wednesday. I'm on day 6 of 7 pre op liquid diet and it's gotten much easier. The first two or three days were rough but its better now. I find when I drink my protein drinks that that fills me up pretty well and I drink the broth for dinner because it relaxes me for bed and then snack on jello and popsicles if I want. It was not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. I'm getting anxious for surgery but I'm so ready. I'm down 10 lbs just 5 days in this pre op liquid diet!!!! I haven't seen this number in a long long time and I'm really happy!

    Post op necessities

I didn't find the small 1 oz cups useful but I know others have. I would recommend getting a binder. At first, I thought I had wasted money on it but after a sneezing fit I needed to wear it for about 10 days afterwards I was in so much pain. I got one on Amazon. Make sure you have Miralax on hand. I use it prophylactically once a day. I had a small bout of constipation and it was not fun. I had been very good about taking my Miralax but forgot 2 days in a row and that's what did me in. I am in the beginning stages so VERY LITTLE veggies being consumed. Maybe as I get further out I can come off it somewhat. I hear others take it daily even after a year or more out from surgery. I have always used small plates so I did not buy anything special and I just drink water from a marked water bottle so I can easily monitor my water consumption. I did not buy anything special just got a sharpie and marked a bottle.

Now thinking if canceling surgery 🥺

Actually being seeing a couple of surgeons reporting only 10% incidence of GERD after sleeve lately. I always thought it was around that 30/35% mark too. Maybe something has changed in the surgical techniques they use??? Or they are more vigilant of recommending bypass to those who are more likely to develop GERD with a sleeve???

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Does the carbonation not bother you? And Yassssss to having lost similar and similar remaining goal #. Hope we get there without going too crazy 😂 And 10 to 11 pounds for remaining time sounds goodie good at least till we reach the BMI of 28ish. I am sure it'll slow down as we crawl closer to normal BMI.
  9. I made some very bad decisions and I'm unsure what to do next. My surgery was a year ago and I haven't really experienced any dumping since then. That false sense of security made me get extremely irresponsible this week. On Thursday night, I had a plate of tortilla chips, salsa, nacho cheese, and about an hour later, a shot of vodka. To make matters worse, I hadn't had much water that day. Friday, morning, I felt mostly okay but I had a dull ache on the left side of my groin. I was afraid it could be a kidney stone, so I bought a gallon of diet green tea around 7 PM and drank the entire thing in about four hours. At about 10 PM, I started having diarrhea and (this next part is graphic and I apologize in advance) I could see whole tomato bits from the salsa I had Thursday in it. I started feeling very lightheaded after about the fourth time going to the bathroom. Around midnight I ate a granola bar trying to settle my stomach. At 12:30, I had a small serving of cream of chicken soup because I was still lightheaded and shaky. The diarrhea made me go to the bathroom about six times overall. At 2 AM this morning, I had also peed about 64 ounces after drinking that gallon of green tea. I was extremely afraid to go to sleep while I was lightheaded because I thought I wouldn't wake up. Around 3 AM, the symptoms didn't feel as severe so I finally went to sleep. This morning, I had a little more soup, half a granola bar about 3 hours after that, and I am now slowly sipping a Gatorade Zero. I still feel slightly lightheaded at times, but it's not persistent like yesterday. I know all of this is because of my extremely stupid choices and I regret everything I did. I feel a lot better than last night, but the lightheadedness coming back today did worry me a bit. Should I just wait it out at this point?

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Fab to hear your update @DaisyAndSunshine 13lbs is so inspiring - to you and everyone here! I've lost 10 or 11lbs a month for the last 3 months now. Not expecting things to stay at that rate but it's pretty sweet while it lasts. We've lost a similar amount and have a similar way to go. Bring it on! My main issue remains getting enough fluids would you believe. I get hungry and eat without thinking that I will need an hour (more usually) afterwards to let that settle so I can drink. And then I get hungry again and have to eat RIGHT NOW. I have tried loads of different strategies but I think my work is to blame - it's so busy and immersive that my coffee goes cold and my water bottle just sits there. What I often end up doing is drinking two or three glasses of diet coke after my evening meal and before my supper - I seem to have no problem getting *that* in!
  11. Hello all, has anyone had any luck with getting their secondary insurance to pay for their surgery when the primary doesn't cover it? My employer provided healthcare insurance is Florida Blue & it sucks. There's an exclusion for everything related to bariatric surgery - no band, balloon, gastric bypass, sleeve, revision, or repair of previous surgeries. My secondary insurance, BCBS Michigan, covers everything. It's a great plan and I hardly had to pay for anything when I got the lapband 20 years ago. I've had trouble with the band & I want to get it removed. I would like to get a revision to a gastric bypass so I don't regain all the weight I lost. I've made some calls to surgeons & was told by one insurance coordinator that if my primary rejects paying for it then my secondary won't pay for it because that's "coordination of benefit". Arrrghh I'm going to see a surgeon in a couple weeks. I haven't seen a bariatric doctor in 10 years (my bad). [emoji44][emoji38] I had talked myself out of the fear of getting a revision to a bypass & now it seems that I can't get it. I'm so mad at my employer for providing minimal, crappy insurance & that having secondary insurance doesn't help at all. Background: I'm 5'5 & 240 now. I was 5'6 & 315 in 2002 when I got the band. I got down to 195 but had saline removed 10 years ago after having some problems. Now I have GERD & some other issues. Sent from my Pixel 4a using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. Ok, I fully admit, I've become an addict of sorts to "appearance-enhancing" procedures since my first foray into plastics 2+ years ago (i got a tummy tuck, arm lift and breast lift back in Dec 2019) I am pretty confident i'm done with plastics (though ask me again in 10 years, as i may be of a different opinion, lol), but have had a whole bunch of non-surgery stuff done in the last little while: lash extensions, micro-needling, teeth whitening, botox (forhead and jaw), fillers (cheeks and laugh lines), and lib blushing (a natural looking-lip colour tattoo basically). Anyhoo...I digress...I actually wanted to share the latest thing I succumbed to: Scalp Micro Pigmentation (SMP). For those that are not familiar, its basically a process whereby a technician tattoos hundreds (thousands?) of tiny little dots all over your scalp to look like hair follicles, and give the appearance of hair density. The majority of SMP clients are men with already bald heads, as the results can be quite dramatic. But more and more women are getting it now, including me! HOWEVER. It EFFING hurts. I have tattoos on my butt and my forearm, and SMP hurts waaaaaaay more than those did. And, the sessions are LONG. 5-6 hours each (though I was told sessions are shorter for bald heads...when you have hair on your head already, esp long hair, it takes more time to manoeuvre around it). I cried for about 4 hours the first time, 12 minutes the second time, and no crying at all the last time. I guess I got used to it. So check out the before after video below. The vid on the left is me in all my scalp-showing glory. The vid on the right is me immediately after my second session (note that there are still large pigment dots and a few scab formations here). I had my third and final one last week and should be fully healed/final results in about a month. I am very pleased. Especially now that its all over! P.S. I also wanted to mention that my thinning hair was already an issue before WLS. Any hair that I lost after WLS came back eventually, and I reverted to my regular state of thin hair from pregnancy/childbirth. It's was all the Kid's fault. P.P.S. Btw, I tried to imbed this video smaller but couldn't figure it out! Sorry! basmp.mp4

Welcome!! 4/19 sleever here from New York. The only issue that I have heard of is if you don’t follow your pre op diet and your liver is too large to move safely to access the stomach. I don’t think that happens often. My medical group told me that in 10 years of doing procedures the only had to do that 14 times. Good luck!! We are hear for you in this group.

Hi there! I’m also 4/19! I’m at 40 bmi with no comorbities but I have to do a 2 week liquid diet- yuck!
  17. Has anyone been prescribed or taken these Citrus Calcium with D calcium pills? The label says compare to Citracal Petites. Have any of you taken those? I started the tablet yesterday but today I had a different experience. This afternoon, I felt so full when I shouldn’t have. The only change I’ve made - aside from the obvious- is the introduction of this wanna be petite Vitamin. It’s not petite. It’s larger than my idea of petite, anyway. I googled the side effects and it says decreased appetite as a side effect. I think that’s a thing for me. The VA sent me like 10 bottles of this at once. So buckle up, I guess. I have been eating the chews before the mammoth petites arrived. These feel like the plug stomach/intestine connection.  I hope someone else here can relate!
  18. a 10-20 lb gain after you hit your lowest weight is unfortunately very common. I think it's just your body settling in to where it wants to be. However, that doesn't mean you can't lose it - it'll just be a challenge - and will also be a challenge to keep it there. Dealing with the same thing myself...
  19. I am currently just over a year out from sleeve surgery. My goal was 160 but the lowest I got was 169. I was beginning to accept that weight but now it has been creeping up ever since and this morning I was 179. I have still been eating good, but more. Around 1200-1400 calories a day. I thought that would be okay… that would at least maintain the 169 but I’m starting to realize that I need to keep the calories even lower. Probably because I am not very active. Idk what I am looking for in terms of a response. I think I am just putting this out there to hold myself accountable. I hadn’t even updated my profile to reflect the gain because I am so ashamed. I have got to stop snacking between meals I know it but it’s so hard with the hunger back. Did anyone else start gaining back this early out. Could it be because I was lower BMI to start and 169 really was my set point and this is the 10 pound bounce back? I guess I could be happy at this weight, but not any heavier, i am just really hoping that I don’t gain anymore.

    Just had revision

Congratulations on your revision! That's awesome that the surgery went so well and you are managing the pain well. I want to get my lap band removed & get the gastric bypass at the same time. The surgeon's office that I called said the doctor only does one surgery at a time. I'd have to wait to get the band removed and wait for three months before he would do the gastric bypass. I don't want to go through two surgeries and my insurance will only pay for one surgery "per lifetime". If you don't mind sharing, what did your surgeon charge for the two procedures? I've read it can cost around 10-12k to remove the band and 20-25k for a gastric bypass. I'm sure it has to be cheaper to do both at the same time then do the two operations separately. Thanks for any info you can provide! Holly Sent from my Pixel 4a using BariatricPal mobile app
  24. No bread, pasta rice & still don’t - they doesn’t sit well. Started cooked vegetables from soft foods so week 5. Raw salad vegetables from about the 2 month mark (I rolled cucumber wedges in smoked salmon & a smear of cream cheese.) I could have fruit from around month 2 too - strawberries & watermelons were my go to. I wasn’t told no alcohol just to reduce &/or avoid for a while. I had a gin & tonic at about two months. Took me hours to drink it & didn’t really enjoy it that much thanks to changing tastebuds. I probably had a couple of drinks over the 6 months until goal. I still don’t drink much or often. Maybe once a month or less & often just a glass & take a while to drink it. It doesn’t interest me like it did before surgery. If I drink now I go for quality over quantity. I was told the no bread, pasta etc. was because they are empty calories & they swell & fill your tummy restricting your ability to eat the protein & other nutrients you need. Raw vegetables & fruit skins can be too hard & dry & cause discomfort upon eating to begin. The no alcohol was empty calories & the whole addiction issue (can’t turn to food so turn to alcohol). I saw a video recently where the surgeon said alcoholism or issues with alcohol affect 10% of bariatric patients. 😱.

    300+

Not your target audience but I started off at 276 lbs and 4.5 months after gastric sleeve I'm overweight (rather than morbidly obese) for the first time in 10 years. Surgery is the only way to lose a significant amount of weight and have a good chance of keeping it off. I could not be happier with my choice to do this - only wish I had done it years ago!
