  1. I'm at Kaiser South Sacramento. I have an appt w Grinberg on Tuesday but I'm open to anyone else at Kaiser South Sac. For those who replied: first of all thank you! Second of all did they ask you weight at surgery or require records to show you qualified in bmi when you had originally? Also what was your bmi at revision? I actually work at Kaiser so all I would have is a $100 copay. Really hoping this happens! Any info on your story would be helpful!!

    Band gone forever!

How does the pain compare to the band I'm getting my revision tomorrow all in one like u the worst part I think is the port can't wait to not feel it. I'm scared of the pain after surgery
  3. I had the band placed in 4/09 outside of Kaiser. I now have Kaiser and Last year I had the band removed and was scheduled for the bypass at the same time but changed my mind last minute on having the gastric bypass done. Fast forward a year later and I am scheduled next week on 6/5 to have the gastric sleeve. So yes, They will do revisions. Good luck to you!

    Final Choice

I have PCOS and slow metabolism but I wanted something that had better stats in the long run and RYN has that. Not to say sleeve doesn't since many have been successful on it as well. But personally given my medical history and plethora of PCOS related side effects, I opted for bypass. Plus chances of revision is also high with sleeve because of reflux issue. And I didn't want take the route of having to have a second surgery if revision was needed. "ONE surgery and that should be the end of it" was my thought process. Hence even after being confused, I finally opted for bypass. I know many prefer sleeve because of less chances of dumping and malnutrition, so it depends if those look tempting for you. Though there are 70% of by-passers who also don't dump, myself including. I always wanted a weight loss route that didn't restrict my diet (reason why I hated Keto and other carbs restrictive diets, my binge eating always worsened with them). Even then I took my chance with bypass thinking I shall see when I cross the bridge. And fortunately, I don't dump (at least with some of the sugary and fatty foods I have tried till now). So give consideration to your medical history, your metabolism, stats and pros and cons of each and go with your gut feeling. That's what I did and so far I haven't regretted it *fingers crossed*

Exercise and diet no use for obese, claim researchers

The MOST effective WLS is the Duodenal Switch. I've seen stats on excessive weight lost (EWL) with the VSG as being 70% and with the DS as 80%. You do have to be more diligent with taking enough vitamins and protein with the DS and that surgery does carry more risk than the VSG. The good thing about VSG is that you could subsequently revise to the DS if necessary (although you're likely to be a slower loser if you choose the 2 stage route).
  6. I got my lapband in 2007 in Mexico. After a year it just quit working and it stayed dormant in there for seven years and two children. In April of 2014, I went to my Kaiser general doctor who referred me to the bariatric surgeon of my choice (through Kaiser, of course). After an upper GI was done, it was determined that my lapband needed to go. It was old & rusty and doing irrepairable damage to my esophogus. I was scheduled for a revision to sleeve in 10 days and I don't think I met the BMI requirements. With Kaiser, it all depends which doctor you see. Some are great and want to help, others not so much. May I ask where you are located?

    What did I wait for?

Thank you for sharing, my surgery is scheduled May 5th I can't believe it's happening I already have a Lapband, it has given me some problems so going in to revision to sleeve, I am panicking, Lapband surgery was much easier, I guess the fact of getting my stomach cut escalates the panic to another level. I'm praying for strength to not chicken out, my Wheight is currently out of control due to the Lapband had to be unfilled, gain 20 pounds in 5 month... Trying hard not to and working out a lot I still gained them! Reading this thread made me realize my feelings & fears are more common than what I thought, I am fearful to have a nervous breakdown this Tuesday and not follow through with the surgery, but if I do I will never forgive myself! I am finding comfort in prayers and positive thoughts! Thank you again for sharing and being supportive through your own experiences.

    To be sleeved or bypass?

I agree with the above statements due to my diabetics and history of upset stomach I choose the bypass and I do not regret it, I only wanted to have one surgury without any revisions as well as it is the gold standard , I could not risk any additional surgery , as well as time off from work so I wanted to get it right on the first go around and with insurance ever so changing I was not going to risk a denial when my insurance covered a 100%. Good luck .

    RNY in one month

Hi everyone i had a gastric band fitted in 2009. Was great for a while but sadly, blockages and breakages (from a faulty batch) and I have given up. I started at 260lbs, down to 175 with the band, now back up to 225 so time to stop that growth! i have a revision to a RNY (Fobi pouch type) on 14 December - and today heard insurance will pay 20% which is great news. The bypass involved no special diet, really, so am a bit apprehensive: protein drinks (less variety here in New Zealand I think), dumping, and having the RNY by open surgery not laparoscopic - all make be a bit nervous... Thanks to you all for keeping me company on this journey.

    To be sleeved or bypass?

I'm in the same boat as the previous commentors here.... I have diabetes, and was all for getting the sleeve... untill my doctor advised against it due to my reflux. He even advised me that he had two patients on tube feeding due to extrem GERD after their sleeves, and that as soon as they were well enough, he would have to do a full revision to a bypass. He also advised that the bypass would most likely help get rid of my diabetes, which given the comorbidities that go with diabetes, is a huge plus. Diabetes is the begining of a cascade of other issues like high cholesterol, kidney failure, high blood pressure, increased risk of cancer,Atherosclerosis, and so on. Diabetes was my deciding factor in getting WLS. Hope this helps you.
  11. I know, im trying to be really good! im just scared that the ct scan will not show my band in good shape and the doctor will want to open me up right away! i feel rushed and bothered that he wont let my band fix itself...hes not giving me time here! he seems so obssessed with doing a revision surgery He said 5% chance that bands fix themselves...well yah cuz he doesnt give them time to!
  12. Thank god im not the only one that seems like hes rushing this! Exactly, doesnt seem like he;s giving me enough time to process anything going on! ct scan now, revision surgery tomorrow! like relax can I first get over the swelling and tightness?!?! he said! that 5% of the time the band fixes itself! welllll maybe his patients since he doesn't give them enough time to heal! I am scheduled for the CT scan this Saturday! that will give me 10 days to heal and hopefully some improvement on my band so he can see it on the CT scan! I still don't think this is enough time tho
  13. I would ask him to share the results of the scans with you and get copies of them, call another office and see if you can get a second opinion from another Dr. we are still talking about major surgery so a second opinion is not uncalled for. If there needs to be a revision then you will know without a doubt. Let us know how your doing and what happens!!
  14. UPDATE: I cancelled my CT Scan and going to see a new doctor this Friday.... I still think it's too early to talk bout revision surgery and doing a cat scan. I feel great, i have no acid reflux and everything is going down just great! can eat a cow! I feel like im healing just fine. It's been 22 days since unfill also sooo hopefully on Friday the xray will show some improvement on my band and i can stop thinking about this possible slip! Although, I did gain alot of weight but that's my fault! please pray pray pray!

    Any MGB in March?

Hi Miss Apple, I’m still feeling a bit delicate. Overdid it a couple of days ago and am now paying with some back pain. Otherwise getting there. I’m in the UK so I travelled to Belgium to see Christian De Bruyne. It was cheaper and he appears to have more experience than the UK surgeons do. I’m pleased so far the proof is definitely in the long term I think. Biggest regret for me is that i left it four years from getting my band out to act. I was only ever going to end up back at my pre band weight. I should have done this years ago! What’s making you consider a revision?

    Pancreitis

My doctor routinely checks the gallbladder during lap band surgery. Mine didn't need to come out but many of them do. I do not know if he checks them when he does revision surgery, but I hope he does. Of course if the problem is caused from quick weight loss, my gallbladder could be perfectly normal before the sleeve and then develop over time afterwards and there's not much the doctor can do about that. I'm going to try to not be too extreme with the high protein/low carb thing. Maybe I can prevent the sludge development. Sure sounds like a real uncomfortable ouchie, having pancreatitis or gall bladder sludge or inflammation.
  17. I need a revision from band to??? Gastric bypass or sleeve? Surgeon says revisions loose more weight with the gastric bypass and need the restriction plus the malabsorption. .I read here that many love the sleeve after having the revision from the band and do well. WHY did you choose the sleeve and how much weight have you lost after...a year? The reason I'm asking the surgeons office called today and said they could schedule me in mid Jan. for gastric bypass...I'm in panic mode now..trying to decide..which is safest, which have the best weight loss rate for long term and which is easier to maintain the lifestyle. I'm self pay and the sleeve is cheaper than the bypass as a revision from band. Thanks to all that answer.
  18. I decided on the sleeve for my revision from the band instead of RNY because it is what advised by mr dr. It's one of the best decisions I have ever made. I would continue to research both surgeries and decide on the one that is right for you. Good luck on your decision and weight loss.
  19. As a revision patient who gained the weight back I say the fear is good!!!

    Torn!

A little about me: lapband 2007 and really had no issues but couldn't eat alot of healthy foods, meats, some veggies, yogurt, eggs. I did lose weight but resorted to slider foods as easier to eat as you know you get tired of one day could eat chicken the next day you couldn't. Anyway I knew the lapband was not forever, at some point I would have to have it removed and like you did not want to gain weight back. So on LBT I found out about VST in July and the rest is history. I had my revision in Sept 10th and I could not be happier! Because I had learned rules with the lapband it has been an easy road so to speak: eating small bites, small amounts, small plates, no drinking and eating, waiting to drink after meals did all of this for 5 years. I have had no issues, no vomiting, no food intolerances so far. I have lost 43 pounds to date and can't be more thrilled!! Would I do it again, absolutely!!
  21. Wheetsin! Welcome, and good luck with your sleeve. I have not once regretted getting the revision, it was the best thing to ever happen to me!
  22. Did anyone’s dr tell them to drink juice post op? Sounds crazy to me. Long story short my revision is tomorrow (not wl related but for reflux) and my new dr said for the first week post op just drink juice mixed with water. But in my head i’m like why on earth would you want me to drink sugar? Like it sounds so backwards to me but idk. I’m also not allowed to have food until january, has anyone else had to wait that long? My first time around, i started slowly eating soft foods after about a week or 2 and i was fine, the weight came right off and hasn’t come back.
  23. Oh Yea revision done on Monday

    tummy tuck

I had an extended tummy tuck back in 2011 and I've been thrilled with the results as well. I had lost 90 pounds prior to the procedure and I have since regained 80 of that. My tummy is still flat and the muscle repair has held up amazingly well. I'm hoping that after I am sleeved and re-lose the weight, I won't need any sort of revision.

Band has migrated to my bowel!!!

Nici6, what are your plans once healed? Are you considering revising to another WLS? Glad you're thru surgery and on the road to recovery!
