    NSV shout outs

Yesterday was 5 weeks post op for the new me! My NSV is that I went from a size 20w (and they were getting tight! ) to today where I'm wearing a size 16w shorts that are fitting comfortably!
  2. Well it sounds like everyone is moving along in their journeys... I'm glad everyone is home from hospital stays and celebrating many scale and NSV's This is a new way of life and not a diet for me personally, and damn, it's a big a$$ change. I know I've said that before, but it's so true!! Good luck to us all, and plenty of Light and Love from me to you ❤️????

    June Sleevers!

I was sleeved on June 9th. I'm down 17 pounds as of today and am mentally prepared for the soon-to-come stall. I just got the okay to move on to soft foods - chicken, fish, eggs... The only big no-no he gave me was raw vegetables/fruit, bread, and rice. I notice that when I'm hungry, I have to eat NOW. When I'm tired, I have to rest NOW. Other than that, I feel great. ...NSV include no longer snoring. My beloved husband is sleeping much better. AND, being able to push to a stand from my weeding stool when I garden. I pray that I can take full advantage of the honeymoon stage in order to make the major changes in my relationship with food so that I can make this new tool work for me for the rest of my life. P.S. The veg in my garden have never looked better. I will be able to eat it in about six weeks.

    NSV shout outs

Sitting in one of my summer classes and it has the old style desks from high school where the desk is tiny and is attached to the chair. Before I squished into them. Now I can sit normal, even cross my legs and see my thighs easy. Totally roomy. It's awesome! ! Totally an nsv that I didn't expect!!

    Week 3 discouragement

I'd like to be able to change my stats to read starting pant size to current pant size instead of starting/current weight. My job is all about metrics so I understand the need to collect and analyze numbers but we really need to not obsess. There isn't a perfect weight nor is there a perfect size. This is about health and the quality of life...including how we look and how others see us. I keep telling myself I won't look at these threads but I do because I want to try to do what others are doing by saying to stop focusing on the scale. You are only three weeks out scarlet. How long have you been overweight? Years, right? It won't come off overnight. And even small losses are still losses. I never lost more than three pounds in a single week and yet I still managed to lose over 150 lbs. Relax...and enjoy the NSVs and whatever positive experiences you have while you are going through this change. Good luck.

New NSV - after all this time

That's wonderful! It's amazing how much easier being active is without the burden of hauling around all that excess weight. I had the same Holy Cr** moment when I went on a hike with friends recently. With very little effort I was climbing up hills, scaling down hills, constantly moving and walking over rugged ground. It felt good! No crazy shortness of breath, no serious overheating, no need to make rest stops. I don't do any cardio exercise, so I know it is all due to the loss of 80lbs! It's just amazing how much easier moving around is without having to lugg an extra 80lbs around. Congratualtions!! That is the type of NSV that has a real impact on our lives...not just fitting into cuter sized clothes, but actual quality of life stuff. Well done!

    NSV shout outs

Here is my first NSV! I am only two weeks out , but I am so happy to have anything to be happy about. I have lost 22.5 post op, total of 46 since pre op. 1. No more staples! 2. No more back pain in the morning! 3. MUST wear a belt with all shorts, or I have to hold my shorts up at the store :-) 4. Seat belt is easier to get on, and easier to get in and out of my car. I can't wait to have more NSV's
  9. Yesterday's NSV at the Red Cross Blood drive = blood pressure 106/72. She said you must exercise....A LOT! :)

  10. So I'm 18 months out, been below goal for 10 of them. Haven't really had any new NSVs worth mentioning....maintenance life is pretty boring. But this last weekend I had a huge one. Friends I haven't seen in 3 years came to visit and we went hiking in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. Last time they were here I struggled to barely keep up on our short day hikes. They were always waiting for me in the steep parts, I was out of breath and my feet and ankles hurt constantly. I actually had to skip the last day because I was in so much pain I could barely walk across the parking lot. Last weekend was totally different. I led the pack on every hike. I was waiting for them at the tops of the hills. We hiked 25+ miles in 2 1/2 days and I logged over 25,000 Fitbit steps each day. Over 200 "flights of stairs". My calves were a little sore on the 3rd day but that's it. Oh yeah, and we saw black bears, grizzly bears, pronghorn, moose, elk, bison, snakes, marmots, and the wild flowers were sensational.
  11. Everything you posted above my friend. Try to enjoy the ride Shelly. It really is the journey as much as the destination. Make a list of your NSVs and focus on that instead of the number on the scale. I bet you have dozens of them.

Woohoo !!! Congratulations to all for those NSV's !!! Way to go !!! One of my first NSV's was sitting on the couch and pulling my foot up to my rear to give myself a pedicure !! No more big tummy in the way, and I did it without gasping for breath !! Hope that happens for you soon ! Good luck to all ! !

    New milestone reached

Woohoo!! Congrats! This is one of the biggest NSV's I am looking forward to! That and being able to put the airplane seats all the way down without bruising my darn thighs and hips!
  17. @@dhrguru - that's a great NSV! Mine are so s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d when I am done with them that no one could keep them up, and I am talking about the bra, not the girls!
  18. Enjoying my new strength & cardio routine, but not the increased weight on the scale. I know why that happens when doing strength training so I'm trying to not let it affect my psyche. NSV - Toning muscle and losing inches!! Yeehaw!!

Awesome job...keep up the good work! Even though you may not see it in pounds, you should see it in your clothes and how they fit!

Thanks for the encouragement, ladies! @CanyonBaby, @ShrinkingPeach, @Djmohr -- I felt like I needed to ramp up what I had been doing at the gym so I met with a trainer a week ago last Thursday. The routine is a bit more intense, but very doable for me despite my normal chronic pain and limitations. Good thing I like exercising - grins......

Early on exerciser- lower back ache

Don't laugh, but it may be your feet, as well as your back! Do you, by chance, wear orthotics? It might be an idea, because when you think about it, your WHOLE body has changed, and your feet carry the load - lightened or not. When your weight changes, so does how your body carries it. Start with your feet, for example having orthotics to support everything that rides above them, is a way to reduce the strain on feet, ankles, knees, hips, LOWER BACK.....all the way up. I can't live without my orthotics. You can do custom (mine run about $600, or not - you can get nice ones that aren't custom at drug stores or even Walmart. Just make sure they fit correctly, and have good, strong support. Change them frequently if they are not custom, as they do lose their support over time. If you already wear customs, but haven't had them changed since you've lost a lot of weight, you may wish to have them redone, as the dynamics of your feet change with weight change. Same thing for orthotics that are NOT custom. I even needed to change the suspension on my Harley with my weight loss! Now THAT is an NSV!!!

    I wish I knew.....

I wish I had known: 1. That depression is pretty common for the first few weeks after surgery: mourning food, feeling uncomfortable, looking at a seemingly insurmountable goal. GOOD NEWS>>>>depression lifts, pain/nausea resolves, goal gets closer and closer every day! 2. To NEVER compare your weight loss with others.....we all lose at our own pace (for a variety of reasons). GOOD NEWS>>>>>if you work the plan, the weight WILL come off, and my slower loss gives me more time to practice the plan and good habits that hopefully will be easier to maintain once at goal (as they will be sooooo ingrained). 3. To focus on non-scale victories (ie. clothes fitting looser, fitting in seats better, less joint pain, etc). GOOD NEWS>>>>>these NSVs are the reason why we do this....we did it to feel better! 4. That you will stop missing the foods that you thought you couldn't live without. GOOD NEWS>>>>healthy stuff starts tasting better than it did before! A couple of fresh strawberries for dessert really IS a treat (vs a ton of M&Ms). Seemingly unbelievable, yet somehow true.
  22. I packed up a lot of clothes and shoes in my closet yesterday to donate. I am only 17 days post op and while some of it was too big (lost some before surgery), some of it was just old stuff that I didn't need to hang on it anymore. I require tall plus size pants which are hard to find, so getting rid of almost all my tall dress pants (which is all I wear to work) was very overwhelming. I did it and don't plan to ever look back. I'll have tall pants tailor made if I have to! Meanwhile, my actual NSV is that suddenly my stomach has gone down enough that I can bend over and buckle shoes that have a strap around the ankle! I love these shoes but avoided wearing them because it was so hard to twist and get my belly out of the way so I could fasten them. I just wore a lot of slip on / mule type shoes. Can't wait to wear all these shoes now!

    How about some NSVs!?!?

nsvs all over the place! been the same weight for the last three days, so i decided to look at inches (which are sliding off like melted butta) in the form of fitting old clothes...easily slipped a dress that was already tight 3 years ago, tried on a snug but button able 17 jeans (at least 4 years) AND was able to cut the tag off some really cute red ballet flats i bought online a year ago. i know what i'm wearing out tomorrow! woot!

    NSV shout outs

I don't know if this qualifies as an NSV, but I ate popcorn last weekend and did not try to overeat it, nor did it lead me to start craving other slider foods. (Popcorn is one of the foods that I abused most often when I was obese.) I think if I keep dangerous treats to a minimum, I can learn to eat them occasionally and responsibly.
