Did anyone NOT have a 3 week stall?
NP_WIP replied to longhaul68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not have a stall at 3 weeks and honestly have not had one yet and I'm a few days away from 6 months. My weight loss has been slower compared to my group (the people I had surgery with on the same day, from same surgeon), but it has been a steady 8-10lbs per month and I'm good with that. I do have to say I travel about once a month and during those times I make the best out of the food choices (sometimes willingly don't lol), so my slower weight loss can be attributed to it too. Stalls are normal and part of the process, so I understand that one will hit eventually. -
You have been so successful in the preop, congratulations! I did not have a food funeral, I did eat out once due to a birthday but I only ate 1/3 of the meal. I do feel sometimes if you taste something you have not had in a while, you may get cravings so I just try to avoid the trigger food. You have been doing it for 6 months now, and although I think you may have missed some of the food, it was not strong enough to deter you of your goal. I would keep doing what you are doing and hit your personal goal. Also note that because of the amount of weight you have lost prior to the surgery, your first few weeks may be slower while you are recovering, so you would have a head start on your weight loss journey.

S L O W Weight-loss 2 Months Out
lkautry replied to lkautry's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you for your answer. I gave my stats just a few seconds ago. Congrats on your weight loss! That's amazing. I guess most of the time I feel I am doing something wrong. I read others comments on how they cna only take a few bites and then their done. Or they can't eat and only want to drink. i don't have any problems eating or drinking. I can eat about 4-6 oz depending on what it is with no hurt or major fullness. I just fear I am not restricted enough to lose faster. BUT i know with time all will be well. -

I agree with everything Arabesque said. I don't know your starting weight, but generally speaking, the lower it is, the slower the weight loss is (usually, anyway). I was a slow loser rom the beginning and lost 100% of my excess weight (over 200 lbs) (I've had some regain since then, but within the 10-20 lb regain range that most of us experience after hitting our lowest weight). If you stick to your program, the weight will come off, whether fast or slow. -

Some people are slow losers & some are fast. Nothing wrong or right about how fast or slow you lose. You’ll find lots of stats about weight loss but they are just averages & will give you an idea of what you might experience not what you definitely will experience. But 21lbs in about 5 weeks isn’t slow. Excluding your initial 7lbs, you’re averaging about 3lbs a week. That’s about what I lost & my surgeon & dietician were happy with my progress. Don’t know what your starting weight was but were you expecting to lose 40 & 50lbs in your first month? That only happens for those who began at very high weights like on My 600lb Life. Oh & how fast or slow you lose doesn’t affect how much you lose. You’ll be fine. Just stick to your plan. -
Looking for women 46 who had the sleeve
Arabesque replied to Jaz&kar5's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was older, almost 54, same height & weighed a little less, 200lbs. I have loose skin. Not a lot though - not worth plastic surgery. I can still wear body con clothes without support garments. How much you’ll have depends on many factors. Age, gender, genetics, how much weight you lose, how long you carried your excess weight, etc. things we can’t control. As an adult I bounced between 60 & 75kg so healthy to the far end of overweight. When I became perimenopausal & then menopausal I put on my extra ‘obese’ weight (I swear I gained overnight). I carried it for about 5 or so years. When I got back to 60kg I had very little loose skin - pinches. As I lost more weight & got to a weight I hadn’t been since I was about 12yrs, my loose skin became more noticeable. Have a little tummy pooch, some bat wings & my butt is halfway down my thighs (it’s the worst bit & what you can see sometimes like in the dress pxt.) Still rather have the loose skin than those extra 42 kgs. I find the loose skin a great motivator. I earned it with my weight loss & I don’t want to gain again. -
I am just curious.... I had VSG on 03/09/2023. This is supposed to be the HONEYMOON PHASE! But I am turtle losing. Doing all the right things. Eating my calorie limit, hitting water and protein goals. I have lost 21lbs since 03/09, seven of those pounds was the first week after surgery. Anyone else a turtle loser too?

You look so good and you still have your hair. Congratulations Sent from my Lenovo TB-J606F using BariatricPal mobile app -
I will be sleeved 6/5/2023. Within the last year I gained over 50lbs. I contributed this to the pandemic (working from home) and the sudden loss of a very close family member. I’m worried of course about sagging skin. Anybody care to share pics or any information on if sagging skin was really bad, or how to make it better. I weigh 250 and I’m 5”3

Looking for "shorties" that started around 200 lbs
pintsizedmallrat replied to greeneyedgirl79's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 4'10" and my high weight was 245; I was 220 on the day of surgery. After six weeks I had lost about 40 pounds. It took me 13 months to reach my goal weight of 110; I am now attempting to maintain but apparently I am not eating enough because I've managed to shrink my way down to "nonederland" at 97 pounds, and I'd really like to gain about 8 pounds and get back to 105. The biggest period of loss I had outside the first 30 days was around the spring following my surgery as I finally had that "burst of energy" and became MUCH more active, mostly by riding my motorcycle which is a surprisingly good workout on the arms and core! I lost 50 pounds between May and October last year. -
One Month & A Half Surgerversary

Congratulations on your weight loss! My stage was soft/pureed combined and I enjoyed refried beans thinned out with yogurt, chili, hummus, guacamole, crab/chicken salad pureed with yogurt, ricotta bake, egg bites. I found tuna too dried so I only tried it once as a salad. -

I had the sleeve, I’m a really picky eater so I primarily am eating sugar free popsicles, protein shakes, and fruits. My doctor said no carbs for at least 6 months and that’s mostly what I like to eat, so I am limited in food choices. I think my food restrictions due to pickiness are what caused me to lose so much so quickly. I don’t like veggies, meat, or legumes, so I really am limited in what I eat. I will say my energy is super low and haven’t been able to work out at all because I get dizzy really easily. I’m not sure if my age is a factor in weight loss but I’m 23. -
normal. Many women experience weird hormone-related things the first few weeks or months after surgery (screwed up menstrual cycles and emotional weirdnesses). This is supposedly because estrogen is stored in fat cells, and during rapid weight loss, that estrogen is released. It'll eventually stabilize and you'll be fine..

It’s okay. We all lose at our own rate & no rate is right or wrong. There is only the right rate of loss for you. Some people just are slow losers & others just lose more quickly at first - everyone eventually gets slower as they progress & get closer to their final weight. There is no timeline as to when you must reach your lower weight. Stick to your plan & you’ll lose your weight in the time that’s best for you & your body. -
Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?
melikeyzzz replied to LoveSimcha's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Down about 83 pounds. My weight loss plateaued in year 2 despite exercise but I still lost inches. My tolerance for sugar has increased higher than I'd like but definitely not near pre surgery levels. I love that I don't experience the feeling of hunger and my portions are small but enough so I can look "normal" in social food situations. I need to find a new workout & tighten up my discipline again to get back on track to lose more. -
Manage Sleep Apnea
catwoman7 replied to dIsLosingIt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
like someone above, I was also diagnosed with mild sleep apnea during my pre-surgery sleep study. The technician (or whoever it was who called me with the results) suggested that I get a CPAP machine, but when I mentioned it to the PA at my bariatric center, he said it was up to me, but it was pretty likely the sleep apnea would be gone after I'd lost about 20 lbs or so. I didn't have a repeat study after losing the first 20 lbs, but I was in a research study a few months post-surgery that involved three sleep studies (they were studying brain waves), and the pulmonologist who ran one of the studies told me I did not have sleep apnea. So yea - my weight loss "cured" it. -
You are absolutely 100% correct in how you are approaching your surgery & weight loss. You can do heaps of research but until you really experience it itself you don’t really know what it will be like. The research does go a long way to ease your mind when you experience some of the quirks & changes along the way, to know when to ask questions, to know what questions to ask & when to ask for advice or help. I was almost 54 when I had my surgery & hadn’t been part of a forum before either. Am so glad I found this one - a wealth of knowledge, experiences & support. It was my four year anniversary yesterday. I didn’t have any comorbidities but I knew they were likely ahead of me. I’d always bounced between healthy to not quite obese for most of my adult life but menopause pushed me over the line & I could not shift that weight for love or money. I lost more than I expected & have pretty much maintained. Having the surgery has been such a wonderful decision for me. Keep sharing your story (the highs & the lows). Never be afraid or reluctant to ask questions, for help or advice. You’ve got this. All the best.

Finished 4 endoscopies and my colonoscopy, and......
Arabesque replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know what you’ve been going through has been absolutely awful but it did lead to them finding the cancer. Thank gracious it was picked up so early & you won’t need more aggressive treatment. Have you tried using resistance bands or other less strenuous exercise? Remember exercise only contributes to about 10% of the weight you are to lose. I didn’t exercise through my weight loss & all I do now are stretches (on the floor) & a few resistance exercises. I do short bursts of 5 or so minutes about 4 times a day. My arms are nicely toned & I see a little muscle definition in my knees & thighs which is what I wanted & my back doesn’t cause me as many issues. Actually have had to drop my sit ups (the most strenuous thing I did) because I had a fairly significant retinal bleed in my ‘better’ eye & was ordered not to by my specialist. (Not completely disappointed because I really hated them. 😁) Praying the end is in sight for you & you’ll be cleared for your revision soon. -
Manage Sleep Apnea
BabySpoons replied to dIsLosingIt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea during pre op testing and was worried that would delay my surgery date since the tech told me they want to get it under control before I undergo surgery. Fortunately, my surgeon said it wouldn't make a difference and that the RNY would more than likely resolve it, which I'm hoping it does. Now I'm wondering if I should have gone ahead and got the machine since my out-of-pocket expenses have been met for the year. But I'm trying to be optimistic and believe I'm not going to need it in the future and hope the same for you. Anyone here can say their apnea was cured following surgery/weight loss? Oh, and I ran across this article after my diagnosis. Yikes!!! Just another reason to get the Bariatric surgery. Weight stall 7 days PO
matt917 replied to bellaarrazcaeta's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m day 10 days post op and lost around 20lbs since the liquid pre-op diet. My weight loss has stalled since surgery. I’m only down 3lbs in 10 days. Hopefully the scale moves in another 2 weeks. I’m barely finishing 2 premier shakes and bone broth. -
Finished 4 endoscopies and my colonoscopy, and......
SleeveToBypass2023 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Got my results from the colonoscopy. What they removed was 2 adenomas. 1 medium and 1 large. Stage 1 cancer. No further treatment needed since there was no chance for it to spread since it was caught and removed so early. Need to be watched closely with more frequent colonoscopies to make sure it doesn't come back. I also have to have a small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) test done in the next week or so. All my stomach polyps came back pre-cancerous but benign. Now I have to have a large uterine fibroid removed and tested and see a colorectal specialist for 2 other...things...removed. Then another endoscopy to check my stomach to see if polyps have come back. After that, if none have, I should be cleared for the revision. If they have, then I need to have them removed and tested and see what's next. So I still have AT LEAST another 3 months of this crap before I can even remotely look at the revision. And that's still a huge maybe at this point. My weight loss has completely stopped, I can barely work out (I can only do 30-45 min tow to three times per week instead of 1 1/2 - 2 hours 5 days per week...no weights, no core or strength training...just the treadmill if I go easy and the bike), and my diet is a mess because I still (even on 80mg of Nexium per day) get break through GERD and excruciating pain in my colon area that we're still investigating, so I can kinda sorta stick to my diet, but on really bad days I eat whatever will stay down and not hurt (like mashed potatoes, beans, bread, etc). I try to be religious with my diet when I'm having good or even ok days. But I'm literally about to lose my mind over here. I just want the GERD and polyps to STOP. I want the pain to stop. I want to get back on my diet PROPERLY. I want to really work out again. I miss my life the way it was before. Fun times over here, lemme tell ya.... 😵🙄 -
Hi Georgie! Thank you so much for your reply! I'm sorry that your healing was slowed by other concerns, but I'm glad to hear you're getting there. 🩷 I'm very happy with the food I am getting in and my exercise. I think I have a healthy balance right now where I get at least 80g of protein every day (usually more, if I'm honest). This is what I have to watch out for because too much protein seems to dip back towards too many calories, as my surgeon told me. I work with a dietician who specializes in PCOS, so I have specific macro goals geared towards that and my bariatric requirements. I'm losing weight steadily - I just got over a stall, and I'm getting closer to a 50 pound weight loss, which is exciting to me. 🤩

Can you give us a little more info OP? On your type of surgery, stage, progress so far, etc? Stats on your BMI? In any case - stalls are absolutely part of everyone's weight loss journey. Try not to get downhearted - they always always break if you stick to your plan. If it's bothering you just don't weigh yourself for a few weeks. Best of luck! S

Weightloss stall...Around 3 months post Gastric Bypass
HMol84 replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I cannot say I have much experience yet with this. However, I too have stayed off the scale even before my surgery. The only way I know how much I’m weighing, is at my monthly check-ups. At least for me, I figured it would be adding too much stress to myself to check the scale daily or weekly, and the possibility of not seeing changes would drive me crazy. It was hard last month to know I “only” dropped 6kgs (13lbs) in 1 month, but the changes in how I feel far surpass the weight loss. And of course, every once in a while, I get the feeling that I’m doing everything wrong! I’m failing! It’s easier said than done, but when I go into these thought spirals, I have to take a step back and study what it is I am doing so wrong.... Am I sticking to my schedules? Yes Am I drinking enough water? Yes Am I eating the amounts I’m supposed to be eating? Yes Am I avoiding restricted food? Yes Am I exercising? Yes .... Then WHAT am I doing wrong? NOTHING! I’m being hard on myself... that’s it! I know it isn’t the same for everyone, but taking this pause to reflect on what I’m actually doing, and realizing how much I am doing well, keeps me motivated! Hope it helps -
Hi ViaLia, your English is beautiful and May I say in my believed self ignorance - blissfully envious of what my understanding of your native language would be. I wish I could learn a second language. my BMI was 37 I think on 10th February this year. I’m nearly 13 weeks post op from MGB. I don’t personally ‘believe nor respect’ the BMI system BUT this is merely my opinion due to a study of medicine. It’s nothing mire than a mathematicians equation so I go off some weight loss, more so on how I feel and look. I do measure myself every week, keep a journal and eating diary but don’t really step on the scales unless prompted. im not the ideal person to comment though at the moment as I have struggles currently but I wanted to wish you Good luck and all the health in the world on your life change and happiness. 🥰🥰
