  1. So I am now 3 days post op. I had a moment yesterday, while in pain, asking why I did this to myself but today is better. My fluid intake is good and I got to go from clear liquid to full liquid today. I think the additions of soups and yogurt and the like will make it easier for me to handle the next 11 days before moving to pureed foods.

Looking For Someone To Talk To About Lap Band

Way to go Erin! I have a problem with sugar too. I love the app because I can see what areas I need to improve in. For Snacks I buy power bars, yogurt, cheese sticks, and Protein shakes. I like buying the Atkins shakes for on the go and use the powder shakes at home. I have even made sugar free pudding and Jello in single serving sizes to help with my sweet tooth. Not sure if what I eat for snacks is completely right but, I hope it gives you some ideas. Sent from my iPad using LapBandTalk

    fat

Your yogurt: 160 calories, 11 grams Protein, 2.3 grams fat, 19 sugar, 20 carbs. I'd personally go with a lower cal version . Dannon makes a light and fit, double protein blended (including the coconut) with 80 cals, 0 fat, 9 carbs, 7 sugar and 12 protein. It's delicious. That said, if you are under calories and carbs and you love this particular yogurt, eat it. It's fine.

    I'm failing

I think greek yogurt tastes a bit like sour cream. So I always put in some sweetener.

    I'm failing

I have to buy some yogurt - I haven't had any since my surgery.
  6. Dense proteins means high protein, low carb foods -- like meat, fish, fowl. Less dense but still good protein foods are Greek yogurt, cheese, skim milk. And, of course, protein drinks.
  7. When I was eating mushy food, I did a lot of yogurt, cottage cheese and scrambled eggs. The eggs made me fill full the longest. I eat only 1/4 C per meal and 1 scrambled egg would do it for me.

  9. for mushies or generally? I tend to eat Cereal and fruit kind of things for breakfast, or shame, skip it all together. Mid morning I've started eating a snack simply because I've started teaching and I have a defined break then. I usually have a piece of fruit and the other day I had a small bowl of vegetable soup. lunch is soup, or a salad (with chicken, tuna or egg) or crackers and cheese. I dont usually eat in the afternoon, when I do, its not good, lol, usually its when I'll give into sugar cravings. dinner is meat and three veg - last night corned beef, mashed potato/pumpkin and steamed veg. during mushies I made a lot lentil dahl, soft salads of avocado/skinned tomato/skinned cucumber/chick peas and a can of flavoured tuna, yogurt, soups etc.
  10. more random thoughts...

I posted this earlier today on another thread and it kindof fits here: "Last week I went to Boise to see my Grandkids. Great time and great kids but I ate like I just got off Survivor Island. Over 2 1/2 days I ate: 2 bags of chips and dip Appetizer and a plate of Pad Thai at Thai restaurant 3-4 country donuts see video! Ham sandwich and more chips 2 bowls of Cereal large bowl of frozen yogurt(various flavors) 3 pancakes smothered in syrup, two eggs, pile of hashbrowns and 4 sausages Red Robin fish and chips, 4 deep fried onion rings and a large pumpkin pie milkshake 2 helpings of lasagna 12 small snicker(Halloween size) bites I had gained 9 lbs by time I got home Monday. Every day since, I've lost weight(not fat) and I"m back down that 9 lbs. It was all Water retention. Processed foods will do it every time. Great video but not for the faint of heart: 2012-09-30 09.15.32.mov

Joining the “slow food” movement - your stories

You can do it. You will find what works best for you and your schedule, and if you mess up, don't beat yourself up about it, take it as a learning experience and figure out what to do differently next time. Try to find small containers to pack snacks in to take with you. I do yogurt, cottage cheese, almonds, protein bars, shakes, and Quest brand chips.

    Need some advice

Same as what I eat now, but in much smaller quantities of course Dense protein: Eggs Tuna (Any fish, really) Shrimp (Any shellfish, really) Lean red meats (occasionally) Chicken Turkey SOME dairy (IE REAL cheese, REAL butter, but in limited quantities) ONLY get your carbs from veggies, and limit starchy veggies (asparagus, cauliflower, potatoes, etc...) stick to mostly green veggies and salads. Stay away from iceberg lettuce and try to do romaine and spinach for salads as much as possible. NO SUGAR (Or as little as you can possibly get away with) Snacks: Cheese, almonds, Jerky, low fat, low sugar greek yogurt Drink TONS of water! I GUARANTEE you will lose what you need to lose and then some if you religiously stick to this and track calories. Good Luck!!
  16. So I've gotten at least 70g of protein daily every day since I started on clear liquids (surgery 4/6.) Today I'm not feeling well, probably stomach bug since I'm not usually nauseated and crampy. Not vomiting, and I've eaten a little: chicken soup at lunchtime and a soft boiled egg for dinner. There is no way I'm getting more than about 40g of protein today. I thought about a protein shake or some yogurt, but it doesn't sound at all appealing. How big a deal is it if I don't get my protein in today? I'm on track with liquids and I know that's the most important thing.

    Tasty Goodness

I love the buffalo chicken too, I use chicken (sometimes chicken breasts, rotisserie chicken, or sometimes canned) and add the hot sauce/wing sauce, plain greek yogurt, and a little bleu cheese dressing. I also love rotisserie chicken or smoked chicken with hidden valley ranch dip mix made with greek yogurt or the hidden valley ranch fiesta dip mix.

    TOO SOON FOR FILL?

My one cent: my band does swell on flights.... I have to Baby it with yogurt. Or string cheese. Stuck in the air is no bueno. I spent too much time uncomfortable or in the bathroom before I learned this. Almost 12 years for me, and still I need to keep certain restrictions at times ...flying is one of them (For long flights and trips, I do have a small amount removed.... not going to Italy on my dream vacation and fighting my band)
  19. Hey Skinny. I had my surgery on the 30th of August. I had to do 2 weeks before of Optifast which is a Protein drink, and was aloud Water 60 oz and that was it. Now that I had the surgery I am still on liquids. Protein shakes which I can't stand. Try and obtain 50-60 grams of protein from just them. I also can have diet Jello, and chicken broth. I am almost a total of 4 weeks like this, and it is definitely getting the best of me. I just tried a little sugar free applesauce which was okay with the stomach and from what I have been reading a lot of people 2 weeks out have started to add some ricotta cheese or yogurt. High protein, low fat no carb. You mention carbs. It is going to be a while before your stomach will be able to handle the straight carb like rice and such. It has to be the hardest thing, but we do can do it. Good luck with your surgery. I am 2 weeks out tomorrow and 16 pounds down.. M..

    Am I eating too much?

I followed up with my NUT and gave her the example of what I am eating she said any Calcium (yogurt, 1-2oz soft cheese, milk ect) does not count as a meal and I can add Protein powder to it for my daily goal but I should have 3 servings of calcium a day and as for my meals - it is normal that I can "hold" 4-5oz right now but she wants me to aim for 1-3oz instead bc my pouch is still healing. I have stopped eating as I was before & started doing only 1-3oz 1x a day and just protein shakes the rest of the time. Sent from my Z970 using the BariatricPal App

    sugar free?

I'd prefer to eat smaller amounts of real foods than artificially sweetened stuff - I have a morbid fear of artificial sweeteners plus they give me a headache and I think they taste awful. It's all down to calories in vs calories out and I think you can safely say that given how many of the population is obese these days, artificially sweetened and low fat products have not made a big difference to our diet overall. We just eat more instead. So I dont down a tub of yogurt at a time for instance but will have a spoonful or two of real creamy full fat yogurt on my muesli in the morning. Not much difference in calories but a heap of difference in taste. I do drink skim milk though and always have.

    should i be this hungry?

I was banded on Saturday and I'm also very, very hungry at times. I make protein smoothies and I also have diet Jell-O, juice, water, yogurt and soup. Yogurt is the most filling, so if I'm really hungry, I have yogurt. I just had some pureed soup and feel pretty full from that, but I have been hearing my stomach growl a lot.
  23. How do I know if I am at my sweet spot or too tight? Some days I can eat normally (approx. 1/2 cup of whatever) and some days I cannot choke down a thing. More often than not I try to eat and I just can't do it. I try to eat the small Dannon yogurts and can only get down about 1/2 of the container. I'm finding myself using the Protein drinks more and more. I am definitely getting full faster when I do eat and am not feeling hungry at all. I am basically having to force food in which I think is making it harder to swallow past the restriction. I just don't know if I should stick with what I have or go for a little unfill.

My birthday and I'm on Puree!

I had my surgery ON my 50th birthday - couldn't even have water! But the way I look at it, it's probably going to be the best birthday gift ever! Hmmm... purees for a birthday? What about plain Greek yogurt flavored with chocolate Protein powder? And a candle, of course!
  25. I'm 6 days out. I had yogurt for the first time and I'm a little uncomfortable. Could I have done damage? I had 3 ounces over an hour and half. Ate with a baby spoon. Pressure and maybe a little painful in my left shoulder. Maybe too soon? I didn't thin it out with milk and maybe I should have but I've done well with puréed soups. Thought I could handle it.
