  1. I am 6 days out. I don t understand why I can have processed cream of whatever and broth and yogurt but you can't have fresh blended up fruit or eggs. I need something more than soup. I know its tmi but my belly can tell there is no substance coming in...so I'm having trouble with diarrhea...which doesn't help my fluids! I want an egg or some refried beans and my nut said no!

Honestly, how much do you vomit?

I am over 2 years out and I have never vomited since I have had the sleeve. Not even right after surgery. I have never been one to vomit easily anyway so this may be why I haven't gotten sick. In the 17 years that I have been married I have only vomited 2 times, when I get sick to my stomach everything comes out the other end but I don't vomit. It's strange. Sorry if that's TMI, lol.

    TMI - Constipation

Thanks for this info! I was just noticing that I am having an issue. I was very regular for prob about the first 2 months after surgery. Lately I have noticed that when I "go" it is much harder (tmi) and im also straining (even saw some Blood) and the last few days I have hardly gone at all. I feel like if I am holding on to poop, it's gotta be adding to my weight! Lol. Anyway this AM I took a swig if milk of mag. Hasn't seemed to do anything . I will try the Probiotics immediately. Do you get a certain brand or certain milligram or are they all about the same? I have never shopped for them. Also finally got hooked on the 80cal light and fit Greek yogurt that you told me about months ago. (I must have tried the wrong flavor at first cause now i'm loving the blends and eat one daily) Was hoping that would help also the digestion also but hasn't. According to this article, it's probably just not enough.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

Possibly tmi? But exciting, nevertheless! ... When I sit on the toilet, I can see the toilet seat instead of belly and floor!! Lol! And the floors in my house don't creak when I walk on them anymore! ) HW- 290, SW (4/8/13) - 270.6, CW - 209.5
  6. Tmi alert..... Ever since being sleeved in december my bm schedule has completely changed. Preop I would go 2, sometimes 3 times a day. Now I seem to go about every 5 days or so. And when I do go it's a lot. Like so much that I keep clogging potty's. Sorry this is embarrassing..... But what can I take to help go more often. Any advice would be great. I never had this problem before surgery so I'm not sure what to do.

    Can't burp!

Nope. I can't burp. I didn't burp for over 3 years . For some bandsters, burping is something we just can't do. One of the reasons I suspected I was leaking in fact was because I not only lost restriction but suddenly could burp again. I have not burped since being rebanded 2 months ago. Honestly, your body adapts and initially it all comes out the other end (sorry TMI) but that settles eventually too. My boyfriend thought I was the most delicate of princesses because I didn't ever burp when we started dating, now he knows I just couldn't!! I really don't miss it.

    1 Month Down

Today marks 1 month of my new life with my vertical sleeve gastrectomy. Wow! What a month! THE GOOD My "official" weigh in at my surgeon's office (on 7/2/13) was -25lbs. My unofficial weigh-in this morning was -30lbs. I can't believe what a difference 30lbs makes! I feel like I have so much energy, I'm sleeping better, oh yeah, and the bedroom stuff In the past month: Lost 1 chin My engagement ring no longer fits My wedding ring is loose My thighs look slimmer I haven't been having night sweats/ hot flashes (purely bc of weight, I'm 25yrs old) I've retired my first pair of blue jeans And every once in a while I see a little peak of my clavicles What I've been doing? **I exercise daily: 40 minutes of walking & at least 30 minutes of other stuff (light hand weights) and OMG, my husband and I are doing the 30 day squat challenge!-- it hurts to sit on the toilet! Lol ** I eat my protein first. I get in around 70-something grams of protein per day. I'm eating 3 meals (a protein shake being a meal) and sometimes a snack if I need it. ** H2O: I'm getting AT LEAST 64 oz per day- it's usually in the 70's. ** Vitamins: I'm taking 2 Flintstones, 2 calcium chews, and 1 dissolvable B12 per day. All taken at separate times to increase absorption. OH, something I thought was really cool: my husband went away for work for a few days and when he came home he was shocked. He thought I looked so much smaller! It was really awesome to see the look on his face!!! THE BAD I've heard this rumor about changing taste after surgery -- TRUE. My husband and I ate boiled shrimp (one of my favorite things) and I thought it tasted like band aids. WTH? And I now love Greek yogurt, where before I took one bite and trashed it. During this month, I felt like I had poor concentration and I kept getting dizzy upon standing, especially when getting out the tub (blood sugar= good, hydration= in check, orthostatic blood pressure= negative). So my doc suggested adding B 12. I can def tell an improvement in both my concentration and dizziness. I don't think this is truly "bad," I'm just not used to it. *TMI WARNING*. BMs are now every other day- less than what I was used to. THE UGLY I did have one vomit episode, but it was purely my fault. I ate too fast and didn't chew enough. LESSON LEARNED! _________________________________________________________________________________ But this has truly been an amazing experience so far. I feel so blessed to have this chance in life- to be a healthier, happier person. I'm so excited to see what comes, especially in the next few months.
  9. And all of a sudden my shakes make me sick. I drank them since day 1 post op and only the past three days, after only 2 or three sips, it sends me flying to the bathroom in a sweat and coming out of both ends (sorry tmi). I've heard of lactose intolerance after surgery, but I've been fine with skim milk, cheese, yogurt, and all other dairy. Thoughts? I use the premier protein shakes from Costco.

Someone PLEASE tell me my private area wont stay fat after weight loss , sorry if TMI
  11. I am on the 6th day of my post-op liquid diet...6 more to go. Not sure i can make it. At this point the shakes are making me nauseous. My stomach is constantly churning and I'm in the bathroom every 15 minutes (tmi I know) . Any tips to get through this would be appreciated.
  12. Well, I survived the dreaded bowel prep kit. I'm not going to sugar coat it.....this stuff SUCKS major bigtime!! I got through 6 of the 8 glasses of the stuff and had to take a break....my tummy was so bloated and distended...very uncomfortable. I waited about 20 minutes and finished the remaining 2 glasses. Not the most fun experience ever. I will say that the stuff sure does what it is supposed to....this may be TMI, but near halfway through, what's in the toilet just looks like you peed.....yup...nothing else was there. I feel kind of wiped out...like you would with a good bout of diarrhea. Stomach is gurgling and rumbling like crazy this morning, but that's really from hunger. But hey!! Lucky me!! When the procedure is over today, I get to have a Protein shake. Yup!!...I'm on my liquid diet. I so wish I could just have a light protein and veggie dinner. That would be awesome! I'll report back later when I get home.

What made you decide to be successful?

i have said it before and some may call it a TMI moment, but when i began to have trouble wiping my butt after going to the bathroom, i knew i needed help or i will be one of those cut out of my house one day.. my A-HA moment was on my pre op liquid and i was whining about it and my ole biker man, who i have been married to for 28+ years, said to me and this is what make this whole thing click and for me to never look back, he said to me to woman up and that i was the one who wanted this surgery (and all that went with it (pre op appts, pre and post op liquid diets etc)...so do what you have to do in order for it to work....that was my moment that made me realize, it was ME who was gonna have to do it.......and once i got that in head, it was on.....havent looked back since... as B52 states, i get it..

    A New Day

Mom had an ultrasound of gallbladder and it is functioning. Now waiting (tmi) for a stool spec for possible colitis.
  15. Definitely not TMI. We're all adults here.....well for the most part and sex is a valid topic. Check out the powder Room Forum (Ladies) and The Man Room (Mens) for some other times this topic has come up. I personally am a big fan seeing it addressed here as well. There are changes that do take place after WLS that do affect ones sex life. Some of the obvious changes are the physical differences but there are also emotional and psychological changes that take place too. Can't wait to see the response. My post WLS experience with this topic is that it has been a great time! Getting used to the "new equipment" (my wife's term) has been a welcome bye product of the process. Oh and the other sex question that comes up is how long after do you have to wait? Me, I made sure that I was out of the recovery room first.
  16. I can't wait to see how different sex after losing weight is .. I'm not trying to rush it I'm just anxious . It felt nearly impossible for me on top and now I'm excited to see the changes .

  18. Hey all... haven't been on here in awhile so am playing catch up. Still doing a ton of research even tho I am 17 months out. I have suffered with constipation issues since surgery in February 2012... Ok.. honestly have always suffered with little bit of a pooping issue. Anyway, saw on a facebook page someone who had started taking a probiotic and lost 5 lbs in one week. Granted I was intrigued.. even tho I have achieved my goal weight and then some. Seems like there are several studies that support gastric bypass patients taking a probiotic and the benefits of it. I have attached the link to one of these pages. So, I started taking a probiotic once a day. The results were immediate to say the least. When I say immediate.. there wasn't like and instant gross out take... lol... but normal... soft poop the next day and then again the next day.. and now day 3.. again normal. So sorry for too much tmi... I just wanted to share. Because seriously I have SUFFERED with this issue for 17 MONTHS and I feel like this may be the answer. Not a doctor and haven't discussed with my doctor... but have yet to find anything negative about taking a probiotic http://mercyhealth.webhealthyrecipes.com/Weight-Loss-Surgery/Good-Health/Bariatric-Nutrition/Probiotics-Help-Speed-Weight-Loss-after-Bariatric-Surgery.html
  19. I had planned on putting off my gastro visit until the end of the process since i am s**t scared of having the EGD. But over the 4th of july weekend i figured i may as well just make the appt to meet the doc. Turns out he was very nice and thorough and gentle. He explained lots of things and the egd procedure to me. The nurse was a little rough with taking my bp. the cuff actually left me bruised. blood pressure was on the low side as usual only 100/60. Some of this post will have TMI but hey if i cant share here where can i share lol Dr says: we will get the other appts scheduled for you, but first i need to give you a rectal exam Me: (as my face drops) Now? Dr: yes i need to make sure there is no blood present in the rectum Me: cant you just take my word for it? Dr: dont worry ive seen that face many times, itll only be a second Me: oh lord So after that embarassing few seconds turns out some blood did show up and now i may need a colonoscopy as well. what could cause this? im 90% sure i dont have ulcers. I have my abdominal u/s friday and the egd is scheduled for 7-26. He said as long as the egd looks ok we may not have to do the colonsocopy. so i am keeping my fingers crossed for that.
  20. Wow reading this breaks me heart. I had gastric bypass 2 weeks ago and had to stay 8 days in the hospital because my hemoglobin was low and jp bag was draining to fast. Was sent home with jp bag. On the 4th of July I decided to eat a hard boiled egg but make it watery just so I can get some protein in me since I can not swallow the liquid protein they give you . Well- 5 minutes after the egg I started having sever pains in the upper center of my belly. 6 hours of crying and screaming praying for it to go away. Had to come back to hospital where I have been since then:( so far they tell me my intestines are swollen. So giving me steroids. Yesterday I tried drinking water and same pain came back . So they put me on a nothing by mouth diet. Today I wet for upper GI and they made me drink contrast .it killed me. Dr then says it could be a bacteria or an ulcer along with the swelling of my intestine. They don't know what I have. Tomorrow I guess I will get results but now ive developed horrible diarreah that smells like death and looks like it has worms. Sorry TMI... On antibiotics ,steroids,anti- inflammatory , pain meds, etc. I have 5 kids and the smallest is 4 months. My hubby has been awesome but theirs so much he can do. I did this bc I was so disgusted with myself and didn't know what else to do. Now I'm wondering if I made a mistake- and theirs no turning back now:( I pray for your honey and that he will regain his health back. ????
  21. Hey y'all! Today I am finally able to take a more normal sip!! It's not a full gulp, yet, but definitely can get more down! Whew! TMI: I've also started having severe diarrhea today... anything to worry about? Also, my incisions have always been sore, but today the one on the right side of my stomach (not the large one where they pulled the excess out) is UNBELIEVABLY painful. Any movements I make almost make me cry. It's not just the incision site... It's also whatever is behind it that is incredibly sensitive to movement. Any ideas?
  22. I'm 5 days post op and I'm a little distressed as I am having heart palpitations (all the time) and I've been feeling really weak. My doc still has me on just flat 7-up, tea & water (no protein). And now for TMI... I have had heavy menstruation the last three days and really bad diarrhea. I can't get hold of my Doc and I'm a little concerned. Any advice?

    Fabulous February Post-Op's

Well despite being very nice to my scale and walking 15 miles in the past 3 days, my lovely scale showed a .3 lb gain even though I took a nice poop before hand!!! ( sorry tmi). Off to befriend Mr. Tape measure.
  24. I'm back! Happy July 4th!!! Hope you are all having a great Independence Day! Sorry I haven't updated whilst I was away - wifi was cr*p at the hotel! I've had a great time in Spain - 5 adults and 44 teenagers on a school trip is defo an experience! We spent 26 hours on the bus there and back and a whole lot more travelling around different locations! I can't believe how much time I have spent on that bloody thing! I didn't manage, as predicted, to do any fast days... and I am pretty sure by the bloated feeling I have that I have gained. I will weigh in the morning. I am prepared to see a higher number! I did manage to keep an 'ok' tab on my food choices, but I have to say that there were treats (the kids were loaded with jelly sweeties and it would be rude to say no!) - also some lunch times bread stuff was the only choice, so I ate it! However, when I did have the choice I stuck to Protein first, some veg and salad too. I would prob say the food I ate was 50% good and 50% not so good! I also had a few glasses of wine each evening - not too many - but more than normal ... as you all know, I don't drink in the house or on a regular basis... I do go out with the girls for a few cheeky ciders and that is once in a while. I did however, throughout the day, drink a lot of Water. I am also severally constipated - if I have no movement by tomorrow evening I will take some laxatives as a last measure... I hate it when I get like this! Sorry for TMI! We also did a lot of walking around - and I have to say that 3 years ago I would of been a bag of sweat - this time, no sweating! That is an awesome NSV, especially in the heat of Barcelona! I am not messing around here - damage limitation is in order so I am back to my fast day tomo even though it is Friday! I might even do Sunday this week too... I'll see how I feel. That is the beauty of this diet plan - I get to chose when I fast. I've got a big few weeks coming up - we have the school prom on Thurs - I won't drink cos I always drive but I know there will be an abundance of rubbish food on offer, so I will have to be super vigilant! I also have a works night out on the next day, that will be a big drinking session with plenty of dancing and giggling! The the following week I have another works night out which will also involve a lot of booze! I am gonna have to be ultra organised because I don't want to gain... but I do want a life! I think I will have to be happy with striking a medium over the next few weeks. Then I will have to be really focused as we go on a family holiday around the 9th August and I don't want to go away with extra weight on me. This time though, I might be able to squeeze in a fast day - or an attempt at fasting; perhaps missing a meal? Oh and as a foot note, it is my third year surg-aversary! How quickly has that gone? I need to find some time to post a little thread to recall my experience to date! Hope all of you are ok... great to see things are going well for you all ...
  25. I'm sorry, but I just need to vent. My husband has been really supportive the last few months through the whole process and I am so grateful for that. I had my surgery on 6/26 and it has been a week and he has been very helpful up until this point. But now he has been asking me when we can have sex. I didn't have the greatest sex drive before surgery, but I really don't feel like I am ready yet and I'm really not in the mood at all. Now he's complaining about me being grouchy, which pretty much I am because of him! He just doesn't get it. Today he told me that I should stop with the whining that my surgery was a week ago and apparently I should be completely recovered by now. He also pretty much told me that this was an elective procedure and I did this to myself. I am just so annoyed right now! Sorry for all the TMI.
